Reviews for Pillar Point Harbor
Crowded but pleasant, 2016-10-04
Captain: , Seattle (140)

Pleasure boat docks are full so expect to be on the fish boat docks. Only 30-amps. 2-boat slips & some fish boats have dangerous grear hanging over, so choose carefully. Excellent food at Ketch Joanne's. Friendly & helpful.

Eclectic Working Marina, 2016-05-06
Captain: , Seattle (212)

We kept our sailboat in Pillar Point Harbor for nine months after sailing down from Seattle. The marina is divided into commercial and recreational sections. The commercial section has no gates and is home to the local fishing fleet as well as several transient and liveaboard yachts. Tourists walk the docks on the weekends and shop for fresh fish sold off the boats. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance. They range from grill food to fine dining. There's a small convenience store across the highway, but it's three miles to the grocery stores in the town of HMB.

The facilities are in generally good condition. The docks are old but well maintained. The showers and laundry are at the far northwest end of the marina near the entrance to the recreational dock. There are four sets of washers and driers, and at least two of them were working during our entire stay.

It gets quite windy in the marina, but it is well protected by double seawalls. The outer harbor has a large anchorage.

If anchored then park your dingy here., 2015-08-01
Captain: , Brookings, OR (647)

Harbor Master said that it is ok to park your dingy on the NW side of the main peir. Check in with him if you are staying more than a few days (not a requirement) and they will watch your boat if you are exploring.

Pillar Point Harbor, 2014-08-19
Captain: , Newport Beach, CA (360)

Stayed several nights as we transited the Pacific coast. Staff was very helpful and worked hard to ensure that we had 50 amp 125/250 power. Downside was that we got a call after 11 pm telling us to be off the endtie by 8 am because the fishing boat would be returning. Next day, the staff was very apologetic about the late-nite call and worked around the requirements of both boats to ensure that our needs were met. Heavy concentration of gulls and pelicans give the harbor a heavy guano odor and the fishing boats are moving around all night. Diesel prices are considerably less than SF Bay fuel docks. Local restaurants are very good considering that the town of HMB is several miles away.

Excellent anchorage, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Stockton Sailing Club (20)

I love Pillar Point Harbor anchorage. Zero surge and almost zero tidal current. Very good holding in mud (I use a plow). I don't go ashore much. I use this harbor as an overnight on the way to Santa Cruz or Monterey. I always feel completely secure here and I can let my guard down just a little. Broad choice of anchorage locations with gentle shallowing as you approach the beach. Keep a close eye on the depth as you find your spot. If you go go ashore there are several good restaurants and all the basic supplies are avialable within walking distance.

An an asthetic note, the Pillar Point fog horn has a lovely pitch and will send you to sleep at night.

Real fishing harbor, 2011-06-09
Captain: , San Francisco (409)

Stores, restaurants, ramp, hotels and yacht club within walking distance. There are plenty of commercial fishing boats hence the main attraction - fresh fish or crab directly from the boat. Friendly, helpful staff and availability of services makes Pillar Point Harbor a desirable stop on the way to or from SF, as well as the weekend destination.

Nice Marina, Cheap Fuel and GREAT Seafood!, 2011-02-09
Captain: , Alameda, CA (811)

This is a working fisherman's marina. That said, it's a bit rough around the edges compared to some of the resort marinas. But if you want fabulous seafood, and protection from the coastal winds and weather, this is THE place! The marina staff are available 24/7 and are very friendly. We stay here almost every time we travel up or down the coast.

Ever helpful, 2008-09-01
Captain: , Vallejo (13)

Staffed 24X7, always have gotten a rapid and friendly reception from staff, no matter how late we arrive. A very friendly harbor with nice access to some very good seafood.
