Reviews for Pierside Boatworks
Good Yard Fair prices, 2016-10-31
Captain: , Charleston (35)

Was there in April 2016, for a launch of a boat that had been on the hill for years, Staff was good, friendly and had a good price for work done.

Above and Beyond Service, 2015-06-08
Captain: , Charleston, SC (10)

We hauled our 51 Formosa for a bottom job, They did a great job and even came in a little lower than the estimate. Knowing we were live aboards the came in on a Saturday to get us launched. I can't say enough for Lisa and the crew there, totally awesome!

Not the full story, 2015-06-02
Captain: , Charleston (10)

Previous review - Complete service on engine done. Gear lube, oil change, fuel filters, plugs, water pump etc. Zero fuel in boat tank. Used shop tank to run. Started and ran very poorly. Told customer the carbs needed to be rebuilt, but rebuild kits needed to be ordered - not in stock. They had to pick up boat on Friday to leave for trip. They called Friday late afternoon and said they could not start engine. Tech had already left for the day. I offered to send Tech on Monday but he said no. No chance to rectify just posted a bad review

Never Again, 2015-06-01
Captain: , Dallas, Tx. (130)

Our working Yamaha engine and dinghy were delivered for a complete tune-up. After over two weeks and an over $800 invoice, the engine would not start on test drive. "Sorry it won't run", was their response. Apparently it also needed a carburetor re-build, but they just didn't have time to handle it. They over-promised and under-delivered.

Great experience from Escapade, 2014-12-06

We found the boatyard professional, courteous and a great opportunity to get our boat in shape. Rates were very reasonable with no surprises on the bill.

A very satisfied customer, 2014-11-02
Captain: , Charleston, SC (74)

We chose this yard to have a bow thruster installed in our 4788 Bayliner, "Trillium". This was our second visit to this yard and we are very happy with the results both times. Their location is very convenient to many supply stores. The office staff was always ready to answer our many questions and the yard staff was very professional in hauling and launching our baby. Also, Tony did a great job on the bottom paint.

Very Happy Customer, 2014-10-23
Captain: , Charleston, SC (80)

I just left Pierside after a stay of a little over three weeks. I took FreeBird in for some bottom work. The boatyard media blasted the bottom and then I repaired some surface blisters and applied new barrier coat and bottom paint. So they did some work and I did some work. In both cases I was very satisfied. They did a good job media blasting the bottom and did just what they said they would do for the estimate they provided. When I was there for over two weeks working on the boat myself I was very pleased with the attentivess and attitude of everyone that worked there. That includes the office staff and the people that worked in the yard. I definitely recommend them and will go back when I need more work done.

Great repair yard, 2014-07-01
Captain: , Charleston, SC (20)

I brought my 50' Ocean "Ann Marie" in for some bottom paint and cutlass bearings. The office was knowlegable and fun to deal with. The technician that did the bearings explained why they needed to be replaced in the first place and aligned my engines. The paint was perfect. I left and was impressed with the way the boat ran. It has not run like this ever! I highly reccomend these guys. I am particular about who touched my baby and won't go anywhere else if I can help it.

Would return in a heartbeat, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Boston (300)

Hauled for bottom paint. Friendly, knowledgable, competant workers and manager. Had me out on time and the estimate was accurate. Able to do some work on the boat while there. You will need a car if you are a transient. If you get hungry working on your boat, hop in your car and go to Anna Bells for breakfast or lunch.

Response to concerns, 2013-02-19
Captain: , Charleston SC (36)

It is a shame that the bad reviews only seem to make it here. There are always two sides to each story and there are always those that don't want to pay the prices required for boat ownership. We try to work with every customer to their satisfaction. Some of these were new boat owners which are always taken back by the cost of boat repairs. Dave Coker - General Manager.

Bad experience, 2013-01-07
Captain: , Charleston (10)

If you are to use this boatyard get everything in writing. Signed a contract which they later disregarded. Workmanship poor and held our boat to ransom. Glad to get out of there.

Get in in writing!!!!! Not recommended!!!!!!, 2012-08-16
Captain: , Montclair (10)

Make sure you get all agreements in writing because they don't mean what they say. They also launched me into the Cooper River with a bad water pump on the outboard (a boat that was bought under the condition of a fully-functioning engine)--I was nearly wrecked on a barge since I had no engine!!!!!!

Prop Fell Off., 2012-07-29
Captain: , St Augustine, Fl (477)

I went to this boatyard because they could haul a 21.5 ft beam cat.
I had them install a prop and check out some electric work. It took twice as long as it should have an when I got the bill it had all sort of incidentals. I would have been satisfied with that but a month later my prop fell off. The said the autopilot problem was fixed as well, it was not, Mije at Mastercool in St augustine Fl finally found the problem and fixed it for $200. ( I would recommend Mike but not sure about pierside. , The stafff are nice enough but they need to do a better job overall.

Beware of this yard, 2012-01-25
Captain: , Austin (20)

If you want professional service and friendly, competent, polite, and honest people LOOK ELSEWHERE. This place will really disappoint. City boatyard and Ross Marine are 1st class. Ask around town and you will get the real story or make a short visit to the various local yards and the level of professionalism will be very apparent.

Do-It-Yourself or Not, 2011-04-03
Captain: , Booth Bay Harbor Maine (424)

Pierside is a very good facility to do your own work. The do-it-yourself daily rates are reasonable and the staff is very helpful. The parts department will order anything you need without too much mark up, it is a marina not Defender. Water and electric is available close to the boats. Easy deep water access to the travel lift. The marina is very close to local sail loft, Quantum, real close to Charleston Yachting for rigging and hardware needs and just a few minutes off I-26. John, Rick and Lisa will take of you and your boat.

Be careful, 2010-10-22
Captain: , New York, NY (200)

Had extensive work done here. When I got the bill, it was significantly higher than the estimates. Some of the work on the invoice had not actually been done, materials were billed that were not used, and most of the work was billed more hours than what was estimated (in some cases by a significant amount). If you have repairs done at this yard, pay close attention to hours spent, materials used, and if they're actually doing the work you're paying for.

Good Marina, isloacted location, 2007-05-06
Captain: , Key Largo (5330)

Great new docks, showers, laundry, and nice ships store. Subject to large wakes from comerical trafffic, and VERY isolated. We used Enterprise rent a car, then it was a covienent location, Rates are cheaper than downtowBut it's a good hour from the icw, or more, depending on the tides.
We used it to store our boat between legs
