Reviews for Pete's Pier/King's Bay Marina
Great place to see manatees, 2017-04-20
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

4-9-17 Very disappointed with marina, staff was friendly but not helpful. Made reservations two days in advance but when we arrived no clue we were coming. Directed us to the wall south of the large metal building across from the marina office, instructed to come in to the marina office after we docked ourselves. About 4.5 ft at low tide. Dockage information of $45 is incorrect, it is now $60 per night regardless of length of boat. They offer $5 off if a Boat US member. No Wi-Fi available and pump out did not work during our stay.
Other than the marina experience, this is a nice place to visit, with a restaurant about a half mile dinghy ride away, and several canals to meander around looking at manatees. The locals told us that over 400 manatees are in this area during the winter.

Friendly Staff but Shallow, 2017-03-06
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (415)

We arrived with another boat that we have been traveling with since Panama City. They planned to provision and tackle some projects since they have family in the area. We thought it would be a good place to leave the boat for a few days and check out Universal Orlando, about a 2.5 hour drive. The day after returning from Orlando the winds shifted to the E and N blowing steadily at 20+ for several days which basically blew the water out of Kings Harbor and left us hard aground at the dock. It was a week before the winds subsided and the water built up enough for us to leave.

The marina is undergoing a much needed restoration and their pump out does not currently work (March, 2017) but the city operates a pump out boat which comes to your boat for only $5.00.

Convenient location with friendly staff, 2016-11-01
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

They are recovering from flooding but still operational. The store on the dock was flooded and the pumpout is not working. A pumpout boat is available, gas and diesel at the fuel dock and the store has been set up on shore. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is convenient to town and the many manatee tour opportunities are close by. The restrooms and docks are quite worn but functional which is why we rated it a 3 instead of 4. We enjoyed our stay enough to extend it.

Decent fuel prices and pump out right at docks, 2016-05-30
Captain: , High Springs, FL (778)

I've used Pete's for many fuel stops over the years. While it's true that the docks have seen better days, the fuel docks are not bad at all.

The guys working at the marina do a great job and are very helpful and the pump out is right next to the fuel pumps which allows you to fuel up and pump out at the same time, which of course can save time.

Plenty of water depth leading up to the docks with exception to some of the lowest tides.

UPDATE - 5/28/16 - They have finally lowered the fuel prices! I happend by here after hearing the diesel price had been lowered. As of Friday 5/27 diesel was $2.19/ gallon so I topped off as did several others.

This is a great start!

reported to be best in the area, 2016-03-28

Old wooden docks price one dollar a foot gas was expensive at $3.97. staff was not particularly friendly. Bathrooms were terrible.

A place see manatees, 2016-01-08
Captain: , Boyd, Texas (390)

Facilities are a bit rustic but it's about the only game in town. Nice people & price was fair. Enjoyed swimming with manatees. Good town for bikes.

Very accomodating!, 2015-12-28
Captain: , Houston (72)

We crossed from Carrabelle and anchored out at first but liked it so much, moved into Pete's Marina. 50 and 30 amp power, water. Fuel dock was easy but the actual marina could do with some work. Showers/bathroom are unisex so only one person can use them at a time although there are two showers. Easy dinghy ride to town docks. Plenty to do and see.

Launched 26' boat, 2015-01-15
Captain: , Winter Park, Florida (103)

I launched my 26' trailer sailer and the ramp was just long enough. The dock could be a bit longer, but worked just fine to launch. I filled up at the fuel dock and the dock hand was very friendly.

Old Time Marina, 2014-11-18
Captain: , Lizella GA (1826)

This marina is a little rough but makes up for it in atmosphere. The marina staff is most helpful and very knowledgable about the area. I will stay here again.

did not stay now 50 amp power for us, 2014-07-13
Captain: , Port Arthur, Tx (516)

friendly staff tried to help but our vessel size limited us here 46'x24' beam . did not have 50 amp power on face fuel dock for us offered to let us stay but we decided to go anchor near island if we had to run gen set anyway. real busy scallop season and tour boats work out of here.

40ft motorsailer, 3.5 ft depth, 2014-02-08
Captain: , lenoir city, tn (200)

Unfortunately, the marina has seen better days. Such a great city and scenic bay.

Anchoring out in front marina is a viable option.

Crystal River needs to be navigated on mid high tide. 2-3 controlling depths of 3-4 ft.

One of the last old Florida marinas, 2013-01-16
Captain: , Crystal River FL (47)

Pete's Pier Marina is over 50 years old. Pete's daughter owns it now and she's past retirement age. Some of the original pilings are only standing because they drove new pilings and bolted them together. The 40 and 30 foot slips have a rusted metal roof which requires keeping the deck clean to minimize rust stains. The outer row of 50 foot slips have no roof. The electrical system is antiquated. Occasionally another part of the dock fails during rough weather and gets rebuilt. The dock is open to Kings Bay with 2500 ft fetch so it gets a little choppy at times.

Still it's in a great setting and is the only marina in the area that allows liveaboards. Highway 19 with groceries, West Marine, restaurants (Thai-Phoon is good), and fitness facility are about ten blocks away.

Great Staff/Manatees, 2012-04-23
Captain: , Punta Gorda FL (1709)

Pete's has a very helpful staff. Quick to assist in landings and fueling. Pump out works well. marina is old with wooden docks. Hugh tarpoon living under docks. No laundry. Portable toilets in parking lot. Feds and SFWMD have bought property around three sisters springs and are closing down swimming with the manatees. Starting May 1 Kings Bay will be idle speed only and anchoring will be restricted. Locals are hot as it will kill their tourist business. Heavy hand of federal gov at work here. Telling waterfront property owners they will have to remove their boats from their property. Hurry here if you want to swim with manatees.

Pete's Pier, 2012-03-01
Captain: , Port Charlotte FL (221)

Pete's Pier is beginning to show her age. She is a bit run down but still functional. Power and water are included with the slip. The have bathrooms and showers which are adequate. No laundry facilitates. But their location is fantastic. Just around the corner there are 100's of manatees. About a 1/2 mile walk to a West Marine, groceries, restaurants, bars and just about anything else you will need.

They didn't honor their $20/night transient slip price with a Boat US membership, as they advertised on this website but there is a $10/day discount with a Boat US membership.

New management makes this a nice place to stop, 2010-05-13
Captain: , Corpus Christi,Tx (1569)

We found the marina staff to be very helpful. The docks do need some upgrading, but the staff informed me that upgrades are in the works (slowly). Nevertheless, this marina is right in the middle of everything and a good stop.

Needs Improvement, 2009-06-13
Captain: , Tarpon Springs, FL (30)

The premises is terribly neglected. No lighting and walking on the docks at night is dangerous. The restroom/shower is not clean and not working. The service in the marina is slow and very unfriendly.

Pete's Pier, 2008-02-11
Captain: , Braselton GA (226)

So-so marina but location is excellent for seeing the manatee. Caution should be exercised for shallow waters entering, while in the Kings Bay and when exiting the river.
