Located off Tortola's south east shore, approximately 2 miles west of Beef Island. Buck island is one of several privately owned islands, consisting of about 43 acres. The island is joined to Tortola by a shoal at the island's northernmost tip. The shoal is about 3 football fields long. Don't try to cross here by boat. It is very, very shallow. You could push a dinghy through here with the engine tilted up and sometimes, you can glide across. It's one of the few places in the BVI where the barely noticeable tide can make a difference. In the mid 90's, the previous owner began building a bridge to the island. The owner soon learned about the laws of the BVI and discovered that once completed, the bridge would make way for public access to the beaches on Buck Island. Building abruptly stopped and the partially built bridge was abandoned.

Snorkeling between Buck Island and Tortola is marvelous. Massive, blue spotted rays as big as 10 to 12 feet have been reported in this area.

Don't Go There!, 2016-09-25

With only 12 slips, this boutique marina can't accomodate a crowd and I want to make sure there is still room for my boat. Can't comment on the prior management but i can tell you that the current (2015-2016) mgt team (Clay & Justin and Dwayne) is welcoming and responsive. It was a great place to stay and and also to leave my boat unattended. They were extremely accomodating, even when family health issues required an unanticipated, extended absence. For a nominal charge, they will also check your boat daily, monitoring batteries to bilges, whether at the dock or on a mooring. Michel, a capable, licensed captain is extremely adept at many routine and not so routine maintenance and issues and carpentry, often coming up with creative solutions in the ever challenging "island time" environment. Don't expect 'big marina' amenities but laundry and groceries are a very easy walk (or dinghy ride if you are really lazy) and the staff often offer a ride into town or will pick up parts, etc. Hurricane strength moorings are also available at very reasonable rates. Free Wifi is good (assuming the ISP is working), onsite restaurant is excellent for dinner and new fish pond is cool. Restrooms are clean and scheduled for some upgrades. My "GOTO" marina in the BVIs. Now, if we could just do something about all those Canadians...

Great Marina, great staff. Under new management for 2015-2016 season. Red Rock Restaurant is excellent. Snorkeling off the point and Buck Island is amazing with spotted rays, moray eels and lobsters sightings on every trip. One of the BVI"s little secrets, is this say over or seasonal stay.

Hidden Treasure, 2015-01-23

I have been at Penn's Landing since the middle of November and it is the best kept secret in the Caribbean. There is only twelve docks and 25 moorings. The Red Rock cafe is an award winning gourmet restaurant at the end of the dock. The marina is under new management and offering year round Yacht Management in and out of the water. The moorings are reinforced allowing us to leave our boats in the water year round with a customized boat sitting program. They offer a full range of maintenance services and a highly qualified Project Management Team. I'm always shopping around for slip prices and know for sure that Penn's imonthly rate is well below most of the other BVI marinas.

Change is not always good, 2014-12-09

Breaks my heart to say, but my favorite marina in the BVI has changed, not for the better. I had planned to return here in 2014 but not now, or ever again. Shame, it was one of the beautiful and one of the last 'boutique' marinas left. It had great atmosphere with fountains, fish ponds, the old style architecture, and the best staff.
Walter and all his wonderful Marine Management Team were asked to leave. Bad decision. Prices have gone way up at the same time dredging and construction is taking place. All my friends have left Penn's for Village Cay and JY Harbour View. The Red Rock restaurant
is still great, but come by taxi or dinghy.
Walter and his crew are at JYHarbour View (which has had major upgrades) and Village Cay. So if your looking for Vern, Jim, Earl and James there all still working with Walter Garmont. Excellent craftsman all of them!

Major construction causes a lot of dirt and noise, 2014-11-29

Changes in management have changed this place. In house repairs and services are no longer available, prices have gone up, to make this one of the most expensive marinas in the BVI.

Red Rock Cafe, 2013-03-27

Best restaurant on the East End. Excellent sashimi grade tuna appetizer and fabulous hot apple pastry dessert.

Best marina in BVI!!, 2012-01-19
Captain: , Delray Beach, FL (327)

Penn's Landing is like docking at your best friend's house! Walter lives at the marina and runs a great program. Superb staff (Vern is magic!) Great restaurant on premise (Red Rock). Not much else within walking distance, though Tamarind Club and Trellis Bay are short cab rides away. Great, laid back, "off the beaten path" BVI. Moorings or slips available.
