Reviews for Penn's Landing Marina
Shallow at Low Tide, 2017-07-02
Captain: , San Diego (300)

Had a great stay at Penn's Landing Marina. Dockmaster Rich and Jim are both super nice and accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. When weather came in they let us stay a few extra days despite being booked solid. The location couldn't be better. Everyday for a week we either walked or took the Phlash bus into the city and saw all the attractions. The proximity to the city is the best. That being said there are a few things the marina and the city could improve upon. First, there are zero services here. No bathroom, no showers, no lounge, nothing. We went into the marina knowing this but overlooked it due to the great location. The other issue was we read on active captain that there was plenty of depth at mlw -6-7feet. This was not the case. Everyday at low tide it got down to 4.5feet. We draw 4.8feet so we sat on the bottom twice a day everyday for a week which meant that we had to turn our ac off so it didn't suck in mud from the bottom. When we asked another boater who had been there for awhile what was the deal with the depth that we saw 4.5ft and their reply was, "it's only a problem at low tide." Well no s***! Also active captain says the marina is 1.75/foot which isn't exactly true either. They base their price on length of the boat. It's only 1.75 if you are under 40feet which we are not. So we were surprised to be charged 2.75/foot. Don't get me wrong we enjoyed our stay in Philly just think there is room for improvement at Penn's Landing.

If you want to visit the city and all its historical venues, this is the place to be. Very secure, outstanding dock master support. While you do have to be self sufficient( no showers, restrooms, laundry, pump out) , still the place to be. Easy access and plenty of water. Reservations are a must during peak tourist times.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

I would give this marina 5 stars for location and friendly dock staff, but there are no showers and no pumpout. Its very busy at night with all the restaurants and bars nearby, but that just adds to its fun. We stayed here 4 days in Sept. 16 and could have stayed longer as there is so much to see and do.

Penns Landing, 2016-09-08
Captain: , Dartmouth (80)

A great spot close to historic district and downtown. A whole lot of stuff going on adjacent to the marina so not a quite place. We are 7ft draft and were digging the keel in the mud when the tide went out but no problems. Jim and Rick, the dockmasters are very friendly and helpful. No facilities, just electricity and water but a great place to base yourself for visiting this very historic city.

Penn's Landing is an excellent marina for visiting Philadelphia, 2016-07-16
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (666)

Though services are limited to water and power (30 and 50 amp), the location can not be beat for visiting the many sights in Philadelphia. There are about 20 slips, reasonably well protected from the wakes of passing ships in the river. The marina is secure, the staff are excellent and if a member of your crew is mobility challenged, the dockmaster will drive you in the golf cart.

The location is 4 blocks from the Liberty Bell. The Phlash bus stops nearby and for $2 you can ride to most every sight and museum in Philly. Our favorite restaurants so far are Positano (Med fare), Spasso (Italian), and Famous 4th Street Deli (huge breakfasts!). Provisioning is a bit of a challenge although the Reading Station Market has a great selection of meats and vegetables. If you are passing through the Delaware Bay and C&D Canal, this is a highly recommended side trip.

Note, passage in the Delaware is a bit of a challenge due to the strong currents. Lots of tugs and barges at anchor and under way at all hours.

Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Looks like the spot to be in Phili on the waterfront ... however no one answered the phone and and the voice mail box was full so no number could be left. As I went by there were several empty slip, however don't know if these were day trippers who would return or not.
Called and phone was answered. Richy is a top flight dock master. Call because the transient slips are limiited.
Stayed June 20 - 24, 2016. Richy the Dock master couldn't be more helpfull. Best big city bargain downtown marina. No facilities but location is tops to visit this Great Histirical City with a fire hose of history to drink from.\. We will be back. Seniors with medicare card ride bus system for free.

Great location, great staff., 2016-04-30
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Located at center of activity easy to get to all historic sites. Easy in & out. Rich could not give us enough info and was extremely helpful on arrival and during our visit. Close to Hilton Hotel @ Penn's Landing. Water depth was 7' at low tide. Docks were floating and very servicable. Lots of walkers and runners until 10 PM when gates get locked. Dock was $4.50 per foot. Electric worked well. There was very little rock as wall protects you.

A Mixed Bag, But Very Good Overall, 2014-08-07
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

Don't let the ActiveCaptain satelite view fool you. It's out of date by several years. There is a good little marina in there. Slips are on the inside of the pier/sea wall. Go to their website for better pictures. The marina itself gets three stars. The floating docks are newish, good staff, easy in and out. No bathrooms, showers, laundry OR PUMP OUT! But the location is incredible.
The sea wall is really a concrete pier built on concrete pilings. The steel corrugated retaining wall only goes down into the water a small bit, so swells do come in. It's rolly. You're protected from the current but not swells. Easy docking.
There is no need to have too much angst about geting up here. Yes, there is a current, but if you check your tables you'll see that the currents are less after a new moon. We faced only 1.5 knots against us coming upl. Not bad.
Definitely worth a side trip. Besides, it's only one day from Delaware City.
In the city get the Philadelphis Pass. It's a money saver.

Great Location, 2013-09-15
Captain: , Charleston, SC (140)

We were headed to Cape May when the weather was going to force us to stay for a month. BIG price difference in Philly from Cape May! Arranged a slip from Monica and called Jim when we arrived. He set us up very professionally. The location is great for getting around Philly. We have bikes and that makes for a fun time in town.
Our boat is self contained so showers and laundry are of no concern. Safety was great. No problems with the boat after returning from a month away.
Rich not only took us to the airport, but he insisted on picking us up WAY after his bed time. He even brought along his lovey wife Sandy. Great people and recommend this marina if you are staying in Philly.

Unique surprises @ Penn's Landing Marina, 2013-09-09
Captain: , Virginia Beach, VA (85)

We just spent 4 nights @Penn's Landing & the uniqueness of docking in the same marina as the historic ship Olympia & sub Becuna more than makes up for the lack of a laundry & inconvenient bathroom situation. The price is reasonable and the staff could not have been nicer. They have made changes in their contact info, so the problems experienced by a prev. post should not recurr. Monica, Jimmy, Rich & DJ are committed to giving you the best experience within their power. We enjoyed all aspects of our Philly visit from this wonderful location.

Great City, OK Marina, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Marblehead MA (40)

We stayed here for a week, waiting out a long stretch of high seas on our trip north. The location is great (although the two marinas upriver may have slightly easier access to local attractions), but Penn's Landing Marina is not well protected from the wake generated by commercial traffic in the river. Rich and Jimmie keep a close watch over the marina and locked gates provide good security.

It's an easy walk to the historical area, Whole Foods and Superfresh, numerous restaurants of all price ranges and cuisines and easy to get local buses to the art museums, Reading Terminal Market, etc. We had a great time here and would definitely recommend a detour from the usual trip up the Bay!

Great Marina, 2012-08-08
Captain: , Philadelphia PA (10)

We stay there 3-4 times per year. It's in the middle of everything. Monica, Jimmy and Rich are great. Call them on channel 16 (unless you have Rich's Cell like I do)

After reading the positive reviews we hoped to give this marina a try. Made a couple of phone calls on the way up that went that went unanswered. Left voice mails to please call me. Never received a call back so we went elswhere.

Well managed marina, 2011-06-27
Captain: , Montreal (201)

Monica the Harbor Master will go out her way to make sure your accomodation is perfect. Jimmy and Rich her assistants are also devoted and once you arrive there you feel you are an important customer. The marina is well on its way to become five star with wi-fi being added and restrooms and showers and laudry facilities in the plan. It is located in the historical district in very well protected area with brand new floating docks and complete power service and the price at $1.75 is very reasonable. It is well worth the detour up 35 nautical miles on the Delaware River up to Philadelphia, a memorable visit. Would go back anytime to spend a few days.

Great place to stay, 2011-06-14
Captain: , Havre de Grace (101)

Rich, the Dockmaster, makes this marina. The marina itself is a four but Rich pushes it over the top. He even asked a family member who was on his way to visit him to pick me up some ice. Now that's service! Great location to visit the attractions. Easy walk to historic sites as well as the bars on South Street.

new and alive!, 2011-06-10
Captain: , philadelphia (66)

This once shabby, runned down marina, is finally alive with a complete make over..the dredging is much appreciated..the new floating docks are a marvel.
the Marina director was wonderful and a delight to work with. Monica changed our minds to try out Penn's Landing and we are so glad she did. we will revisit Penn's Landing again on our way back.
Congratulations to a beautiful project and fabulous crew..

Perfect location, 2011-06-09
Captain: , charleston (831)

This marina is the perfect location for touring Philadelphia. Everything is within walking distance. Brand new floating docks are a plus. Dockmaster stayed after hours to help us dock -- very helpful. Only drawback is the lack of facilities (head, showers, laundry). Too bad most boaters don't take the time to make this little side trip up the Delaware. It is well worth it.

Fantastic Marina, 2011-05-29
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (101)

Marina completed upgrade two days ago. Great floating docks, very helpful staff, and the absolute center of Philly and all it has to offer. This side trip off the loop should be a must. This marina is a jewel.

Rating is for the city. = marima just OK, 2010-06-17
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3171)

We just spent 4 great days in Philadelphia at Penns Landing Marina. I
do not hear of many folks stopping there on the typical N-S transit.
It is a half day out of the way but it is worth it.

The history, great neighborhoods, food, parks, museums are terrific.

We are gong back next year even though we have seen the major sights.

Penns Landng is a good choice amoung the three available marinas. It
is right at the downtown area. The 5$ all day tourist route, bus stops
right there. Piers Marina had no space and was badly silted in
according to the dockmaster. Phil Maine Center is the full service,
higher price alternative but not as well located. There are no
bathrooms or showers at Penns Landing but it is well sheltered with
good floating docks and 30/50a power. Price was $400 for 4 nights wth
elec for out 48' boat.

Jimmy the DM gave us a great Italian restaurant recommendation that
gave us 15% boaters discount. Many restaurants are BYOB. A local told
me that many have gone to BYOB to attract more diners. The food
availability and quality is top notch in the city. Reading market has
all the local specialties including Amish fruit and Vegtable stands
and bakeries, Philly steaks, Jewish deli, Meat and fish vendors.

Its a great walking town too. We walked all over and jumped on the bus
whenever we got tired.
