With repairs to be done, we sent inquiries out to several boat yards in the Grenada and Trinidad area. Peake's was the only one to reply on the same day, and with the positive news that yes, they could accommodate us.

When we visited the yard office the day before we were scheduled to haul out, we were invited into an air-conditioned office like we were returning customers. We were told that we were the first boat scheduled to haul the next day, and that when we approached the lift bay, people would come running to help with our lines. While running may have been a slight exaggeration, the guys were all there when needed.

The haul-out procedure was perfectly choreographed, interrupted only by various workers coming over to say hi, and to introduce themselves. All of this means a lot when you're watching your home fly through the air!

While we did not have any of the Peake's guys do any specific work on our boat, we found each of the people that we interacted with extremely professional and friendly. We plan to return to Peake's again in a few months to haul our boat once again while we're off sailing with friends. At that time we'll enlist their services to help us redo the bottom on our new-to-us boat. I am confident that they'll do a proper job.

He hauled for two weeks for basic annual maintenance. We had to stay on top of the workers to make sure the quality was done to our standard. Our list took 9 business days to complete. The same list a year ago at Pilots Point in Connecticut took 4 days. But Pilots Point was three times the price. I recommend Peake, but keep your eye on the work and make sure they do it to your satisfaction.

A nightmare.....period!!, 2014-11-21

I had an earlier negative review which I had posted on this site, but, ooops, I was still at this "Boat yard" and they saw the review and obviously did not like it and asked me to change / delete it.
As there was still an abundance of work to be done on my boat, which was paid for in advance, I thought it best to change the review temporarily....or even worse things my have taken place.
But, now that the Boat is finally safe and out of that termite infested, dust bowl of a place that is also riddled with thieves and numerous other forms of rip off merchants....I can finally tell the truth about my almost 3 years of horrendous experiences at Peakes.
First of all I need to say that unfortunately, my observations, conversations with other Cruisers and experiences are not solely directed entirely to Peakes, my review covers the entire Chagauramas Marina Work area.
Chagauramas may have been the place to bring your boat to get work done 15 - 20 years ago, but, today, please, unless you intend on doing the work 100% by yourself and you have no intentions of leaving your boat unattended, just go anywhere else....
Every aspect of Peakes has flaws, from handing the Key to the boat into the Office to ensure it is safe and allowing a record of who had your Key by them signing for it (which does not happen), to the Paint Crews who do not prepare the areas correctly prior to painting and use different shades of paint when they run out of your paint and the term overspray has no meaning to them, to the Welders who just can't weld and love to burn everything in the surrounding areas of where they are attempting to weld, to Project Managers who simply can not manage the simplest of tasks, to Woodwork Guys that have no idea what real woodwork entails but just like to rip wood out, to Electricians that are Plumbers on the days where there is no Electrical work...this guy in particular will destroy both the Plumbing and Electrical System on your boat and all of the above get paid.......for what?? truly shoddy work that has to be redone and redone and never gets to the point where it is 100% correct...I considered myself lucky to get 10%, they never turn up for "work" on time, if indeed they actually do show up, take 3 hour lunch breaks and stop "work" long before the 4pm official end of work day and are drugged or drunk most of the time.
Have to mention that Termite riddled boats are parked next to "healthy" boats, and even Termite riddled boats are disassembled in the boat yard with the contaminated debris from the infested boats distributed all over the place.
If you hear names like Franz Maingot (West End Power), "Ni" (Nigel) the "Painter", Lincoln the "Welder" or Glenn the "Electrician/Plumber immediately find someone else, do not use these people.....they were the main culprits concerned with all the damage done to my boat.
As I had mentioned earlier, this is not all directed to Peakes, Dynamite Marine also has to take it's share of critisism where the Main and Mizzen Mast were not sealed correctly, the newly installed PSS Shaft Seal leaks, the A/C's and Refridgeration still don't work....again all paid for in advance, but, again nothing works correctly. No Refunds....from anyone, no one accepts responsibility for the shoddy work...You seemingly pay for the pleasure of them being on your boat.
Again, What a Nightmare of a place!!!
Finally, the theft.....everything that had any value was stolen from my boat, even a cheap $25 DVD player from Walmart...but, no one saw anything or knows anything about it and yet the boat was fully stocked for a projected 3 year circumnavigation (400%) with spares (Fuel, Oil Filters, Fan Belts, Fuses, you name it, it was on nothing).
I arrived in March 2011, escaped Oct 2014......
Thanks Peakes for the lessons learned.....

The yard is run lke a clock. Boat comes out, clened and stored. They are the first marina outside the US that used appropriate stand techniques for storing boats on the hard. You can live and work on the boat yourself - as we do, or hire any possible form of tradesmen you can imagine.

There are alot of issues with yardmen working to partial completion and then renegotiating the previously agreed to price. This can be avioded by clear negotiatoin and only using people recommended by other yachties in the yard.

Mainly a commercial and yacht haulout, DIY and storage yard, Peake has a med-moor jetty which can accomodate about 10 boats up to 100 feet. The jetty can become almost untenable in SW wind/swell. This is the most popular long-term storage yard and has a high-security storage yard as well as a 165-ton Travelift. There is a restaurant, small basic hotel and many contractors on-site.
