Reviews for Palm Bay Club and Marina
Great Stay, 2015-03-24
Captain: , Sault Sainte Marie, MI (54)

Have to say that after I read the last two reviews I was a little worried. We only were staying one night so we took a chance. And they did not have a minimum on dockage fees.
Glad we did. We called David and everything was gone over as we were arriving late. Nice showers, nice laundry, access to pool, clean docks, friendly fellow boaters, what else could you ask for? We also enjoyed the manatees playing off the back of our boat.
If we are back in this area we would come back for sure!

A formerally great little marina gone bad, 2015-01-28
Captain: , Colorado Springs, CO (10)

As background we have been coming to Palm Bay Club and Marina for several years, spending a month or more over the Holidays and having our children fly in to visit. We originally came for the cheap fuel that was actually delivered to your boat (!) but kept coming back because of the customer service, the immaculate docks and the park-like setting.

This year we came back to find new management (James from Sea Isle Marina replaced Bill and Kelly) and a whole raft of problems. First, for over ten months half the power pedestals have been inoperative as the condo association that owns the marina and the marina itself fight over whose responsibility it is to repair the power supply. The means that there are 30 and 50 amp power cables strung all over the dock as they patch together support from the remaining pedestals. They do cover the cables with carpet squares so I'm "sure" it's safe to walk on them. The dockmaster also told us the fire suppression system for the docks was inoperative!

As mentioned earlier, this used to be a good cheap source of fuel but the new dockmaster no longer allows delivery to the boat plus adds a 20 cent surcharge per gallon. There is no fuel dock so you must negotiate through the marina, including a small boat dock, and then park against a small seawall to get fuel. The skinny water surrounding the marina and swirling winds caused by the two high rise condos on either side make for an "interesting" approach and departure so this is not really a good option for the faint of heart.

The docks are themselves no longer the immaculate area they once were. The T-Dock, where we first stayed, has been half painted for several months. The trash is only picked up once a day, late in the afternoon. Usually. Sea grass now builds up and stinks where Kevin used to use a scoop to clean the areas and dump the grass back out in the bay. The free ice is no more as the machine broke and there is a squabble between the condos and the marina as to who shopuld fix it. The dock office usually opens between 8:30 and 9:30 and then closes about 4:30. We helped many boats with lines as marina personnel seemed to be otherwise occupied. The old customer service mentality is definitely missing.

But the main reason for the low rating is that, despite staying here for extended periods and despite a signed contract with the marina indicating we were staying for an extended period, last Wed we and every other boat in the marina, were served with an immediate cease and desist letter by a law firm representing the condo association stating that we were in violation with their (condo association) agreements with the state and therefore we were notified of the potential for penalties if we didn't immediatly comply. In our case compliance meant that no live aboards were allowed for longer than five consecutive days or more than ten days in 30. God help you if you get weathered in or your boat breaks. Yes, we saddled up and left.

This is a pretty location for a marina but there are no beaches anywhere close, there are a few decent restaurants within walking distance (including Subway), but there is no grocery within the area. Couple that with the safety concerns and the ongoing drama with the condo people (served on our boat with a formal cease and desist letter by a guy in a suit?!! Come on), and there are probably many better choices for the same price in the area.

Dirty, unsafe, electrical problems, 2014-12-10
Captain: , Miami (10)

We have been transients to this marina for a few years now and it is not at all what it used to be since the management changed. Trash ovelflows everyday, power cords run all over the place since half of the pedestals don't work. Reverse polarity occured several times on our boat. Fire system does not work (according to the dockmaster!!) Smelly weeds and trash on the water were a constant problem. To avoid. Not returning again.

Good stop in North Miami, 2014-01-27
Captain: , Pasadena,Maryland (510)

Stayed one night in 1/14. Bill (dockmaster) was very coorperative- he checked on our progress. Grounds are very nice-pool (too cold to use the heater was broke). Restrooms/showers were acceptable. Laundry facilities. Small marina with a few transient slips. A great stop.

Great Service, Nice Stay, 2014-01-08
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (250)

We stayed one night. Bill, the harbor master is a super guy and extremely helpful, gave us weather reports the days we headed in and out, helped us resolve cable TV issues, took us to Publix. Not a lot of transient slips but worth calling to see if one is available. Nice boater's lounge, laundry. Adequate bathroom. Fuel delivery can be arranged. Easy approach off the ICW, far enough off the ICW that wakes were not a problem. Would stay here again.

Nicest little marina in Miami, 2013-06-23
Captain: , West Palm Beach, FL (30)

Great Staff, always smiling and wanting to help in any way they can. Very nice and well maintained swimming pool.
Clean bathrooms and captains lounge.
They are happy to get diesel trucked in, and will even try to find others to take part of the delivery if you need less than 300 gallons.

Great small marina, 2013-04-27
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (880)

Great docks and pool, friendly staff, including Bill who helped get a fuel truck with very cheap prices. Nice boaters lounge with local menus. Is open to Biscayne Bay to some sloshing . Walking distance to great restaurants. Blue Collar is a top 10 venue in Miami and located a few blocks away. Gourmet dining in casual atmosphere and very reasonable prices.

A tucked away gem, 2013-04-15
Captain: , Tracys Landing, Maryland (350)

Due to a change in plans (bad weather, etc.) we ended up on the ICW and needed a marina for a month. Palm Bay had room and fit us in. We cannot say enough nice things about how wonderful the staff treated us, and how they continually made us feel welcome. Very friendly area with lots of restaurants. Bus system is convenient and easy to use. Cell signal is a bit spotty because of the high rise apartments, but it worked well enough. Amenities are heavenly, with a great gym, beautiful pool, tennis court and walking areas. Our favorite off grounds was the Saturday farmer's market at Legion park. Great fresh mango/sugercane juice!

Top Marina!, 2013-02-27
Captain: , Bear DE (694)

This is one of the best run Marinas I have ever seen! Called in 2 hours before ETA and asked for a slip and fuel (fuel need 24 hr notice). Bill give me perfect directions to the assigned Slip and helped with the lines. The fuel truck was there one hour later (only $3.80 gal / Diesel). 5 min walk to good Restaurants at A1. Will stay here again! What a great Service!

Excellent Marina, 2013-02-23
Captain: , Sarasota, Florida (82)

We happened to be in Miami staging to cross over to Chub Cay and the Miami Boat Show was underway! The usual suspects were charging $5+ per foot, Palm Bay, however, was a very reasonable $2 per foot! Bill and Kelly were 'out of their way' helpful and we enjoyed or four day stay immensely. I needed help with getting a few jobs done while we were there and Bill had all the right contacts. Bill called the fuel truck...good fuel at $3.70 per gal too. We would definitely recommend.

New Management, 2012-06-28
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (250)

I kept my boat there for the month of May 2012. The dockmaster Bill and his assistant Claudia were outstanding! While I was away from the boat, Bill phoned me with updates, helped with the fuel truck, provided a dive clean service... a 5 star experience! Certainly consider this marina if looking for a longer term stay.

Helpful dockmaster, pool, nice grounds, 2012-04-20
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6422)

Dockmaster came out and helped us tie up. Clean docks, a little high for our boat even at high tide. Combination concrete with wooden fingers, recently stained. Very nice pool, tennis courts right out the gate. Showers/restroom small but clean. Large boaters lounge. Our Verizon mi-fi had much better signal than dockside wi-fi. Quite night except for the Miami Airport planes.

Very good marina, 2012-04-16
Captain: , Bristol, RI (366)

Bill Namke & Claudia, dock masters couldn't be nicer or more attentive. I left the my boat here for a month. They called me when I was home to report all was well and to see if I needed fuel when the fuel truck was on its way. Great service.

Palm Bay Marina, 2012-03-15
Captain: , Houston (774)

Great place. Would probably be a great marina to be in on a long term basis. We put in for fuel and paid $2/ft for dockage and $3.85 (including tax) for diesel. The truckdriver took care of the fueling and all I did was stand around and talk. The next best price I found on the bay was the fuel barge at $4.13 plus tax. Bill the dock maganer couldn't have been a nicer person. He was always on hand if you needed anything. This is one great place and I would recommend it to everyone.

Back again and not disappointed, 2012-02-09
Captain: , Marblehead, MA (926)

We expected to stay only a few days here as we had heard about some of the management changes and on going wars between the condos. After the first afternoon, we upped our stay to two months. Whatever went on here is back to normal; Bill's new assistant, Claudia, is competent, polite and personable; and the little gym and beautiful pool are still great amenities.

We heartily concur with the other reviews about the special feel and atmosphere of this marina, set by dockmasters Bill and Susan. As liveaboards, we enjoyed the informal company of other liveaboards here, as well as the transient cruisers, as opposed to many of the marinas in Florida populated by absent owners of sports fish boats.

We had a rental car and enjoyed the proximity of the marina to the Design District and the Midtown complex, with many options for fine or excellent casual dining and shopping. A great jumping off point for sightseeing the Greater Miami area.

We like it, wish we had more company, 2011-12-11
Captain: , Los Angeles (40)

Depending on your needs this place can be ideal. We were here last May/2011, liked it and returned because we need time off the hardships of cruising , maintainance for me (knee surgery), and some refittingfor "Music". The new mangagment also seems to be helpful and friendly. I just wish we had more sailors to share this beautiful place with.

Place has changed, Susan was let go!, 2011-07-20
Captain: , Manatee Bay, Key Largo, FL (20)

Unfortunately, the ongoing war between the two buildings has returned with a vengance. The condo president of the moment is a rather dictatorial type who has very different plans for the marina. Susan who most cruisers know as being helpfull, friendly and incredibly efficient, was fired and replaced within a day with someone more accomadating to management rather than boaters. This is now much less friendly place. There is no longer even a front gate at the property thanks to a board dispute. The neighborhood is a bit on the seedy side so this is an issue. It seems that a major summer weed and trash problem is back, and a part time dockmaster does not make it easier. The weeds are so bad and smell so much it is almost a full time job to try and keep them at bay. Until the issues with the tower and the club are worked out and the current president is removed, I would give it a miss. Susan will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Efficient, honest and customer oriented, she is a BiG loss to this marina. It remains to be seen how long Bill will remain.

The staff does make a difference!, 2011-05-17
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

This is an 'out of the way' marina located just off the ICW in North Miami. Wedged between two condo towers this place is quiet and well protected from wakes and weather.

The only downside to this marina is also the location. Most major services are two miles away, however the bus stop is only one block from the marina.

Dockmaster Bill was a lifesaver. I had to replace our convection oven and he helped me remove the old one and install the new one. He drove me to the bank for cash and even arranged for a diesel delivery by truck. Bill makes this a stop I'd make any time I'm in this area.

Passing the time is easy with a pool, tennis court, BBQ area, lounge and wifi access.

Only the location keeps me from giving this the 5th star.

Great Amenities, 2011-04-21
Captain: , Miami, FL (10)

The dockmaster Bill and Manager Susan really run a first-rate marina here. They are very responsive and easy to talk to. I give them the highest rating possible.

Nice Marina Great Staff, 2011-03-02
Captain: , Ottawa, Canada (363)

The last review was accurate, I would only add that Bill and Susan are very accommodating. Bill even did a grocery run for us - above and beyond!

Excellent Customer Service, 2011-02-08
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (212)

If you value great customer service this is the place for you. Both Bill and Susan went above and beyond to assure that we had a great time at their marina. Bill was great at directing us to our slip and getting us tied up. As to Susan, she drove us, in her car, and after business hours to a mall so that we could pick up a new TV for the boat
On another day she gave us the keys to her own car so that we could get to a drug store. She also hosted a movie night in the clubhouse and supplied the popcorn.
On another day she offered to drive us to Miami Beach and South Beach so that we could visit.........Simply fantastic customer service!
The marina is located on gorgeous landscaped grounds and has security. The pool and hot tub areas are surrounded with palms and more landscaping. A convenience store is nearby as well as several restaurants. Several restaurants also offer delivery.
Don't pass this one by....we will be returning!

Superior Service, 2011-02-04
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (456)

The previous reviews give many specifics with which I agree. Especially the over-the-top service Susan provides. Certainly unequaled in my experience.

If you are looking for a party atmosphere, this is not your place to go. The marina is nestled between two highrise condo buildings and is thankfully quiet. Far enough off the ICW that wakes are not a concern and well protected except due east. While the docks are fixed, the tide range is so small it is almost like floating docks.

If you need repairs that can be done without a haul out, Susan or Bill can arrange for someone to come by. I HIGHLY recommend Adrian Cabrera (786-709-8941). Our windlass and bow thruster went out on successive days. Adrian ordered parts that beat Defender prices by a lot and very efficiently resolved all issues. Very professional and easy to talk to.

I would go out of my way to return to this marina - and Susan.

Great Marina, 2010-12-28
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (73)

Friendly and helpful staff. New state-of-the-art fixed concrete docks. WiFi. Laundry. Pump-out at every slip. Captains Lounge. Short walk to great restaurants and shopping. Easy access from the ICW. Protected from north, northwest, and west winds. Heated pool. Hot tub. Tennis courts.

Surprising Gem in Miami, 2010-12-16
Captain: , MONARCH. COLORADO (1156)

The marina itself is small and owned by a large condominium group. It is quite easy to get into off the ICW. The slips are fixed and well built. It is well located to provision with Publix, Radio Shack, West Marine and various restaurants in the near vicinity. What makes this one special is the attentive care given by the Dock Master Susan. She went overboard to ensure all our needs were met from fuel to food. Its a definite great stop. Especially at $2.00 a foot and the third day free!

Dockmaster of the year awards, 2010-12-16
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1090)

This place was a real surprise. Once contacted, the dockmaster - Bill - went out of his way to make sure that we knew all there was to know about the place (hot tub, pool, restrooms, showers, laundry, fuel delivery, etc.) He kept in continuous contact to insure that we knew about the approach, winds, current, and insured that we were met promptly upon arrival to help with our lines and electric.

Unfortunately, the fuel delivery part became a bit of an issue, but Susan, the other dockmaster came to the rescue and arranged for an alternater provider who arrived shortly after the scheduled time and filled up the 4 boats who were awaiting fuel.

Susan had also arranged for a happy hour event to have the local experts share their knowledge of the Bahamas and particularly the gulf crossing. She provided snacks and beer as well. Can't ask for much more than that! But, she loaned out her new car, provided much needed guidance on the area, set up a real estate session for us re: the on site condos, and frequently dropped by the boats to make sure that our every need was met.

The local residents were close behind Susan in providing transportation and needed local knowledge. Thanks, Greg, Jim, Nick, and Carl.

There were some excellent restaurants within walking distance and full shopping was available within a few miles.

We can't say enough about the dockmaster's who went way above and beyond to make our stay one that we will always remember.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the dock fees were $2/ft, the fuel was $2.73/gal, and the electric was .12/kwhr - our bill for two days and night with temps in the 30's was less than $4. All that and right off of the ICW. This was a real winner!!!

What can I say - This is a great Marina, 2010-12-16
Captain: , Full Time Cruisers (2244)

Down home hospitality at a great marina. Thanks Susan. We stayed for 2 days and received personal attention that exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended to transient boaters to stop.

Out standing Littlle 50 slip marina, 2010-11-18
Captain: , Miami (10)

This is a really outstanding little marina, with a gated community, million dollar swimming pool(heated) tennis courts, fitness center, a great captians lounge, with a kind caring dock master(Bill) Walking distance to the bus stop (1 BLK) as well as starbucks, subway, pizza, this little marina really has it all.

Nice Little Marina, 2008-12-09
Captain: , Miami, FL (13)

This is my home base. Small marina with about 30 boats in a gated condo complex -- many friendly liveaboards. Transient slips available, usually 30-80+'. Clean bathrooms/showers, washer/dryer, lounge with TV, nice pool, tennis court, small gym. Pumpout at very reasonable $5.

Friendly staff, but not always around. Call ahead and they will be there when you arrive and help with lines, etc.

Easy walk to neighborhood bars, restaurants. Area is a little funky so don't stray far off Biscayne Blvd. at night. Bus to Publix a mile or two N and/or S.

Wind/current protection is fair. Tight getting into North-facing slips -- particularly in a blow!
