I launched from this %u201Cmarina%u201D on 3/15/2012 for a 4 day cruise to Ocracoke. This "marina" resembles a hunting camp my extended family has down on the bayous of Louisiana. The only standing %u201Cbuilding%u201D is mostly a plywood shack that has yet to recover from the last storm. There are no signs identifying this as a marina so you have to look at the address on the mailbox to know you have arrived. Glen Jarvis is the owner and %u201Chas been there for 50 years%u201D. He is a great person and despite the ramshackle nature of his marina, I had a decent ramp to launch from and a place to store my van and trailer. And the price was right, he only charged me $10 for a launch, retrieval and 3 nights trailer/van parking. Bring bug spray and if you are anchoring out (we did) bring mosquito netting. The water is very shallow so if you are sailing you will need a swing keel and a kick up rudder.

Oyster Creek turned out to be one of the most memorable stops on our journey across the sound to Ocracoke. Some GPS and marina listings will show this marina as full service with fuel but in actuality it only has beverages, ice, and limited supplies with a boat ramp. The owner of Oyster Creek actually lent me his truck and gas tanks to go get some fuel to top off with in town. The approach to Oyster Creek is only about 3ft MLLW.
