Reviews for Oxford Yacht Agency
Great Small Marina, Very Convenient and Tidy, 2017-08-02
Captain: , Charleston SC (20)

What a great small marina (and nearby boatyard) in the heart of Oxford MD. If you want a few days of peace in one of the best towns on the Bay, this is your place. John Shannahan (owner, dockmaster, and local historian) is a great host with a wealth of information about yacht repair and the local area. He's a great host. His boatyard, Dickerson Harbor in Trappe, is 5 miles away. They specialize in Grand Banks, Eastbay, and trawlers of all types. We have enjoyed several nice stays in the Oxford Yacht Agency marina with total enjoyment each time. The docks are solid with pilings, power is reliable, and there are usually some nice Grand Banks owners there to help with anything you need. The bathrooms are clean and air conditioned, some of the best I've seen. There are two new restaurants in town as of July 2017. One is Doc's Sunsett Grill, which offers good food, fun crowd, and a truly great sunset. The other is Capsize with great food and a more upscale casual atmosphere. The Robert Morris Inn and Latitude 38 are still great restaurants too. All four are pretty easy walking distance, less than 10 min. I plan to be back soon!

A Nice Quite Marina, 2017-07-03
Captain: , West River (298)

This small marina is a wonderful location to stop and re-charge your personal %u201Cbatteries.%u201D

The owner, John, even though he was busy at his other location met us upon our arrival and ensured that we were properly secured prior to taking us on a walking tour of the town. He pointed out several restaurants and other points of interest, including a couple of secluded city benches overlooking the river. He is a wealth of information on the town%u2019s history and local vegetation.

The location of the marina provides good protection from storms at the end of Town Creek. It also provides a prime location for watching part of the local working boat fleet docked next to the marina. It is an easy walk (about six minutes) to the local market and not much further to the local restaurants.

The marina does not offer much in the way of fancy amenities, but the bathrooms are clean and well maintained.

Oxford Yacht Agency will be on our list for future visits when we want a nice quite marina.

Beautiful Setting, 2017-06-20
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (640)

Although we made a reservation there was nobody here when we arrived in a stiff breeze. Lucky for us two Gold Loopers came out to help which made for an easy landing. This is a small marina with sturdy fixed docks, power and spotty WiFi. The owner is very nice, but often works off site. We spent two nights on the face dock and truly enjoyed a chance to rest and catch up on chores in a pretty place. There is a city park across the streets with tennis courts and a field where we let our dog run.

John is the perfect host, 2017-04-22
Captain: , Dronten, NL (140)

Charming marina in charming Oxford, MD. Above all, John, the owner, manager and dockmaster, is the most resourceful person. Without advanced notice, he arranged to find a replacement water heater for our PDQ 34, went as far as Baltimore to get it for us and brought it back to the boat on the very afternoon of our arrival. He also gave us all possible advice as to our further navigation North and lent us several charts. There is no place like OYA!

Great Little Marina, Gracious Host, 2016-08-21
Captain: , Oriental, N.C. (352)

This was our second stay on the T-Head at the Oxford Yacht Agency docks. We love Oxford, the more so for the great value ($1/ft) docking here. But more than just a good rate, the facilities are clean and tidy. Good electrical power, and solid docks. John, the owner and dockmaster, has a wealth of knowledge of both sail and power craaft. He also owns a boatyard nearby and is most generous in sharing his time and expertise.
It's only a short walk to good restaurants and great ice cream. We'll be back.

A true five star marina, 2016-07-13
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (701)

This is an incredible find in Oxford. It is located right in the beautiful town. The docks are very well maintained, with good power. The restrooms/showers are air conditioned and very well kept.

This is our second time here, and as far as we are concerned it is the only place in Oxford.

The owner, John Shannahan is a true gentleman, and is a wealth of knowledge of the area. He even took us on a walking tour of Oxford the first time we were here.

Because this is such a nice marina, I am a bit reluctant to mention the cost, as that should not be the only reason to come here, but at $1.00 a foot, it is a fraction of the cost of other marinas in this magnificent town. Try it, you will not de disappointed. This is a great place to come in Oxford.

John is the marina!, 2016-06-06
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1244)

Oxford is a quiet, quaint town. The marina is well protected, small with few amenities but easy walk to restaurants and small, very limited grocery. John Shanahan owns the place and makes your stay close to perfect.

Off the beaten path marina, 2015-08-31
Captain: , Green Cove Springs,Fl (104)

Quiet docks within walking distance of downtown. Not a lot of amenities but John made up for it with his friendly way. He went out of his way to help us solve a Gen-set problem saving me a major service call. Town is bicycle friendly and we were able to ride to laundromat (housed at a marina in town). Very nice stop and one we will make again.

Captain: , Fairfield, CT (10)

I have put into OYA with several boats from 65 to 85 feet. The T-head can accomodate us comfortably and has water and 100 amp 3ph electrical.

This is the least expensive way to get fresh marine diesel on the bay, by way of fuel truck delivery. The fuel services allow us to use a handle trigger or cam lock in for high speed fueling.

There is enough water for the Burger and it's well protected in all conditions. It even qualifies as a storm hole.

The best restaurant on the Delmarva Pennisula, Pope's Tavern, is 200 yards across the street.

We have used their services for major modifications including welding and construction to a quick oil change mid delivery.

I can recommend John and OYA for everything but laundry. We do that aboard.

Captain: , Ponte Vedra Beach (60)

We had a great reception by John who talked us into our berth with our preferred bow in starboard tie. The facilities were excellent, wonderful clean restrooms and showers. John gave us his personal reviews of the local restaurants. More importantly John provided me invaluable advice on my task to repair our broken forward head. As I was already in the bilges I went ahead with an oil change which was facilitated by the delivery of oil and a container for the disposal of the used oil. Now that is great service!

Small, quiet marina in a small quiet, beautiful town., 2015-05-16
Captain: , Newcastle upon Tyne (533)

John the owner couldn't meet us so we docked ourselves, not too hard on a T head with no current and little wind. Fixed docks in good condtion, home to several Grand Banks trawlers. No laundry so couldnt give it 5 stars, but otherwise very nice. Cost 1$ a foot plus $11 for power. Quiet, only a couple of crab boats in the night. Oxford Market Store has a useful range of food and a deli.

Like Going Home...., 2014-10-10
Captain: , Sea Cliff, NY (1075)

After a long day on the water, and with thunderstoms threatening, we decided to treat ourselves to a night at a dock. We chose OYA based on the previous excellent reviews and we were not dissappointed. John met us and made sure that we were happily settled. The "town" is a hop, skip and jump away and is filled with numerous old homes in excellent condition. Great park on the water.

The storms came through that night but we found ourselves completely protected in this lovely setting. The restrooms were immaculate and the price was unbeatable. Thanks John- well done!

John Shannahan III has set up a nice little marina at the head of Town Creek. with in walking distance of quaint neighborhoods and places of interests. he took us on a short tour of the area with some insiders knowledge that was quite helpful. the finishing touch is that he solved a listing to port problem our Mainship had experienced since we added a house bank of 8 d batteries.

Oxford Yacht Agency in Oxford, MD, 2014-07-05
Captain: , Heathsville, VA (50)

We have stayed at the Oxford Yacht Agency docks numerous times over the past 3 years and have always found the accommodations excellent. The location at the head of Town Creek is convenient to visiting the town by foot and within easy walking distance to the four restaurants in town. We have also used the brokerage services of the agency to both sell our 34 Legacy and purchase our current 46 Grand Banks Classic. John Shannahan was most helpful with both of these transactions, especially in helping us get comfortable with our new larger boat. John has been involved with Grand Banks for over 30 years, and he played a key role in refurbishing our 25-year-old boat, both cosmetically and mechanically. We are very pleased with Oxford Yacht Agency!

WOW...what a great spot! Wonderful new docks located right in town with easy access to the Oxford Inn, Latitude 38, and the Robert Morris Inn! The town is completely charming and very walkable, and a local market with homemade food and other necessary items is a 5 minute walk. Knowledgeable staff with access to the associated and excellent Dickerson Harbor Boatyard. Can't say enough!

Captain: , Oxford, MD 21654 (25)

Stopping to reach a restaurant close by we found 100 amp (3) phase,a short walk to the store and Oxford Inn. At 8 am the next morning the fuel truck arrived. We more than saved the cost of the dockage and the meal on the fuel price.

Small but well protected marina at the south end of Town Creek. Mostly trawlers and sail boats. Very laid back. Good docks and AC power. Shower/bathroom facilities available.

Easy walking distance to the entire town of Oxford. Several excellent dining facilities, small grocery store.

Their boat yard facility is located about 5 mi away in Trappe. First-class repairs of all sorts available. They will travel to Oxford.

OYA, 2009-08-30
Captain: , Lottsburg, Va (264)

We were here involuntarily as a fresh water pump went out on the way up the bay. The yard personnel were very helpful, diagnosing the problem on Friday afternoon about 5:00PM. As parts had to be ordered, we were there a week (our schedule not theirs). The docks are at the headwaters of Town Creek and are well protected, water & power are the extent of the available services. The bathrooms were clean but poorly lighted. Repairs were made in a workmanlike manner; nice people, they know a Grand Banks inside and out (they were dealers for about 20 years. The stars are for the yard.
