Reviews for Ortega River Marina
Great docks, great location! Exelent prices also. still of my Favorites., 2017-07-25
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

Many new improvments, only $1 a foot!
Floating docks walkable to Publix, west marine, shopping, banks.
Inexpensive docking. Great place to don't need a courtesy car here. free courtesy bikes with baskets, swim pool,
Good free wifi , new clean showers and laundry, nice happy hour bbq area also.
Paul the dockmaster is great!
Paul the dockmaster puts on a monthly Pot luck, well worth while

Nice place to stay, 2017-05-07
Captain: , Frostproof Fl (260)

We stayed here 3 nights. Very nice and helpful dock master. Paul the dock master lives there on his boat. The docks are floating docks. There werre a few wakes from boats going above the speed limit. The restroom/showers were new, little beach area with small pool, and fabric gazebos with wicker furniture was very nice. West Marine, 12 or more resturants, Publix, banks and more within 3 or 4 blocks. Do not miss Metro Diner, order meat loaf it is unbelieveable. The diner has a very large and varied menu. We needed some help with our steering and the man walked from Sadler marina next door to help us.

Nice stop over to visit friends, 2017-04-16
Captain: , Grass Valley, CA (320)

Stopped here to visit friends in the marina and to do an airport pickup (its just 25 minutes away). Its a nice marina with a lot of live aboards. The pool, BBQ area, and the restroom/showers are all in great condition. The WiFi was a little week, although the locals said it had just started occuring. A shopping area is only 2 blocks away (easy walk) with just about everything you would need from Publix to sushi. West Marine is here, there is also one of the largest used books stores (Chambin Book Line) by the marina. All books are just $1, I'm sure you will find what you need.

Just south of the marina past the railroad bridge is Lambs Marina that has an easy access fuel dock. Its about 2 hours up the river to get to this marina so if you are travelling the ICW you might miss it. On the way there there are lots of large ship working areas and great view of the downtown.

For us it was well worth the detour (only 2 hours in each direc tion) before we headed back up the north ICW. The current flow in the river can work for or against you, we picked up 2-3 kts in each direction.

Lovely little marina, 2017-02-04
Captain: , Dartmouth (80)

Ortega River Marina is a lovely spot, good docks, great community who welcomed and included us. The facilities are very high quality with good shops very nearby. Wifi is OK, and good from certain spots. We were made to feel at home and were offered support and help with problems. Very nice place.
One negative was a terrible experience with Dan from Pin Point Moibile yacht and boat Repair and we would advise you avoid him at all costs.
This was made up for by the services at Sadler Point Marina, everyone here was fantastic, did a great job at a fair price. Chip is amazing and his 50+ years working on boats means that there isn't much he doesn't know. We highly recommend them.

Improvements?, 2016-07-05
Captain: , Sarasota (205)

Paul the Dockmaster is very friendly and helpful. Lots of local knowledge The Marina is old but in good condition the shower rooms are new and cleaned daily. The pool is tiny but refreshing as many of my stops haven't had one at all. The cookout area is very nice but I haven't figured out what time to go there to meet others. There seem to be a lot of liveaboards.
Fuel and pump out available at Lambs just under the bridge.

Great marina!, 2016-05-15
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (10)

This marina is maintained well and has a friendly and helpful staff, and many friendly and helpful folks staying here.

Unexpected surprise, 2016-05-05
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

We tried Ortega Landing Marina again after a run up the St. Johns River to Sanford, made all the more enjoyable using numerous good tips from Paul the dockmaster. This place grows on you, plus is further in the lake and enjoys far less wakes. We'll be back in the fall.

We actually made a mistake booking here, but so very glad we did. Paul the dockmaster was very knowledgable and could not have been more helpful. The marina has new bathrooms and pool, and a short, ten minute walk away is a shopping center that includes Publix, CVS, West Marine and Stein Mart plus some restuarants. On site pump out is in the works. We'll be back.

Great Stay, 2016-04-17
Captain: , Port Lavaca, TX (451)

Left the boat here while we went home during Feb & March. Big improvements in the facility. Great showers and bathrooms. Even has a pool, although we didn't get to use it. As mentioned, easy access to shopping and supplies. Paul, the Dockmaster is great to work with and walks the docks routinely. We'll be back!

Slow getting this posted but hope to return, 2016-01-22
Captain: , Oriental, NC (190)

We stayed for a week in November 2015. Had been working our way south and needed a break from all the wet weather. Enjoyed our stay. Felt right at home. Had everything we needed. As others have said, the facility is top-notch. The only negative is we were on the face dock and the river gets a little rocky. Not sure why though since there's not a lot of traffic out there. We could have moved into a slip but opted not to since we were there for a short time. We'd definitely return.

Now known as the Ortega River Marina, 2015-11-22
Captain: , Mooney Bay, NY (30)

We stayed for two nights. Paul, the dock master, was exceptionally helpful. Reasonably priced at $1 foot including electricity, the Marina offered spotless new bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities. Well situated with a Publix, West Marine, CVS and many other stores and restaurants within easy walking distance. A loaner cart with lock is available for grocery runs. A great place when in the Jax area.

What an Improvement!!, 2015-10-02
Captain: , St. Somewhere (530)

Things are changing here!!! New name for the facility...Ortega River Marina. 2 gazebos, a fire pit, community grill, and new bathroom facilities make this place amazing. In the process of constructing a pool as well. Highly recommend stopping if you're cruising along the St. John's.

New Wi-Fi System, 2014-11-27
Captain: , st. augustine (10)

Just installed a new wi-fi system, 802.11ac capable. Fastest speeds I've ever seen in a marina. No boat is more than 50 feet from an access point. Download speeds of 15 to 30 Mbps depending on location. Upload speeds 5 to 10 Mbps.

Easy in and out. Two blocks from the Roosevelt Square shopping center. Friendly, helpful people.

Marina is about to start construction on new, private restrooms/showers, larger laundry room. Other improvements in the works.

Things, they are a changing!!, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Seminole, fl (105)

OYCM was getting a little long in the tooth, but management refuses to be stuck in the past. They have just put in a new WiFi sysetem that is state of the art, and many more changes and upgrades are in the permitting stages.
As long range cruisers, we are always interested in places with others of the same ilk, and OYCM is becoming the cruising center of Jacksonville again.

Poor excuse for a Dock Master, 2014-03-15
Captain: , Pensacola, Fl. (136)

I never stayed here but have 3 friends there and know three others. The boaters for the most part are friendly, but there are those snobby ones there that think they are better then cruzers. We are anchored out in the river and my wife works near by. We were over one late night drinking on a friends boat (small 29' Morgan) wife had to use restroom and didn't want to use the small head on the boat so we walked up to the restrooms.... We were then accused of takeing showers @ the marina late @ night.... now we weren't accused of useing them once... we were accused of useing them on multiple times (never happened) not even once did we take showers there. They have CCTV, but the dock master has no clue how to record so if you stop by, you are not protected by video.... So ... I don't have any good to say about the dock master, or of the gosup minded dock queens that live there. Its a lot more then I can say here but not a cruzer friendly place.... unless u want to spend lots of money on thier dockage. The captains lounge is small, the washers and driers are new, and what I saw of the bathhouse (THE ONE TIME I PEE'D) it was clean. There are no other ammentities that I know of.

Very easy marina, 2013-05-11

Stopped here on the way to the ICW. Great floating docks, friendly people. Near a Publix, West Marine, and in easy walking distance.

Good Marina, Great Value, 2013-02-26
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4307)

First class floating docks, helpful/friendly staff, good folks on other boats, close by shopping and services make this a 4 star plus marina. The transient rate is by far the best in the area, and factoring the cost into the benefit formula, this becomes a five star place.

Well managed, calm waters, friendly people, 2012-07-05
Captain: , Tortuga (20)

Groceries, Starbucks, seven restaraunts, department stores, and four marine hardware stores all within walking distance. Location is second to none. Well managed with two very seasoned dockmasters always available to assist. Free Wi-Fi and cheap utilities. Very nice staff and slipholders. Monthly marina cookouts make for a good socializing opportunity. Gated parking, recording video cameras, and a liveaboard dockmaster make this a very secure place. Natural hurricane harbor provides natural storm protection as well as very calm waters. Pricing is competetive, but it isnt the cheapest marina around- nor the most expensive. Floating docks make for easy dockage and tie-ups without tidal influences. I definitely reccommend this place.

Consider This, 2012-06-09
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (274)

Great little spot with secure floating docks and a great Dockmaster, Paul. This ecconomical stop is close to a marine store and mall that includes Publix.

Great stop in the Jacksonville area, 2012-05-26
Captain: , baltimore md (644)

We stopped here going and coming on our St. Johns River tour. Paul the dockmaster helped with our lines on a T dock We spent 2 days there during the week very few boats out so no wakes. Great stop for provisioning, restaurants, West Marine etc. Paul gave us some tips about the St. Johns river and showed us were to dock after our haul out at Sadler Point. Everyone is helpful and nice. We are enjoying our stay here.

OYCM is the bomb, 2012-03-07
Captain: , Balmer (150)

This is what a marina life should be. Low stress, unpretentious , easy going, mid your own bussiness kind of people both in the office and on the boats.

Welcome home!, 2012-01-10
Captain: , Geneva, Illinois (90)

Paul welcomes you to the marina and will help you with any of your needs. He guided us into the marina, provided transportation to and from the airport, ran us to the service station for extra fuel, and more. He just cannot seem to do enough to help transient boaters out. You feel like you have arrived "home". The facilities are immaculate - private showers, laundry, and captain's lounge. Restaurants, groceries, wonderful book store, drug store, clothing stores, and West Marine are all 5 minutes away. As we continue on our journey we will certainly miss this exceptional marina.

Great Location, Great Prices, Nice People, 2011-07-09
Captain: , Stuart, FL (426)

Close to many good restaurants, bars, marine supply, Starbucks. Nice docks at a great weekly price

Close to groceries, West Marine, Bad for wakes, 2011-03-28
Captain: , Crysler Park Marina, Morrisburg, Ont (30)

They tied us at the end of the T dock, it was a weekend, and boats went by constantly. Many did not slow down and we rocked and rolled very badly, probably the worst we have experienced. On the other hand, Publix and West Marine are only a couple of blocks away.

Wonderful Marina with Great Access, 2011-03-27
Captain: , Atlanta, GA (64)

OYCM is a great marina. Great access to Publix, West Marine, Pier 17, Radio Shack, lots of restaurants, a CVS, several banks including BOA, and two clothing stores. After 7 days of anchoring out, we wanted somewhere to relax, reprovision, get nice long hot showers, and do the laundry. We could not have picked a better place. Paul, the dockmaster, has been very helpful and everyone at the marina has been very welcoming. This was a great first marina stop for us. From the marina a nice little water front park (beside the Ortega Bridge) is about an 10 minute dinghy ride. Gas is about a 10 minute dinghy ride (west under the 45' bridge at Lamb's). We felt very safe. If you have the time and want to have a few days or a week of access to shore, this is a wonderful place to stay!!!!!

Ortega Yacht Club Marina, 2010-12-18
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Good place to stage for your trip on the St Johns River (or to decompress after the trip). Pleasant surroundings and short walk to stores (publix, West Marine, and several clothes stores).
Dockmaster claims that 5 ft draft can get in to the Ortega R, but there is no marked channel from the St Johns.
Can easily figure out the correct way to enter, but is a bit nerve racking.

Ortega is great, 2010-12-02
Captain: , MONARCH. COLORADO (1156)

Thsi place is 1st class. Nice docks, Its a private marina so not much help on the docks. Great pool. Publix is 2 blocks away and there is a nice Benihana style restaurant next door to publix.

Ortega yacht club Marina, 2010-11-21
Captain: , Mere Point ME (40)

Concur with all of the above. Friendly people, good facilities, inexpensive, close to the best used book store in the world!!

Transient rate lowered, 2010-04-14
Captain: , Fells Point, MD (98)

The harbormaster lowered the transient rate in mid April 2010. It is now $0.90 per foot. The weekly rate was lowered as well.

Clean and modern, 2009-12-23
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

Clean and modern with floating docks and a very friendly and helpful dockmaster. There are no repair facilities or ships store, but these are available close by.
