Reviews for Ontonagon Marina
A good stopover, 2017-05-31
Captain: , Bayfield, WI (340)

The harbor master was really great and made our stay as pleasant as he could. Entrance to the marina is between a red & green buoy that are about 20' apart. Port side is deeper, but entrance still shallow, at about 7 feet. We saw depths about 6.5 feet and were a little nervous with a 6' draft, but we made it. This was with lake depths +13 inches. Showers were clean, but pump-out didn't seem to work well. The town is across the river and too far to walk, but only a short dinghy ride. We can confirm that the swing bridge shown on most charts is no longer there, it is clear from the lake to the entrance. All in all it was a good stop over point.

Great harbor, 2015-09-08
Captain: , La Crosse, WI (941)

The harbor master did everything he could to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Clean restrooms/showers. On call bus ride into town for $1.50. A very under utilized harbor.

Harbor of refuge as you enter, 2015-08-30
Captain: , Madeline Island (140)

The water is 11' at the free tie ups for the big ships, and they don't get used in the summer, or when the weather is fair. You'll need your extra long dock lines to reach the oversized cleats and bollards, no problem. Break out your biggest fenders also, some of the timbers are in rough shape exposing the horizontal rebar.

hospitality plus, 2014-08-27
Captain: , Naples, FL (1096)

Laid back municipal marina that is being tenderly cared for by dockmaster. Welcome bag of Wisconsin products from dockmaster's wife much appreciated. Be sure to call Thomas on his cell to make arrangements for a slip if office number is not answered. We did not see less than eleven feet at entrance of marina. We were charged $27 for our 36 ft trawler. The $2 per ft price is not correct. I have tried to correct it twice but no luck. Be sure to use the On Tran bus service to get to the IGA. Phone is 906-884-2006. Seniors pay $.75 each way.

Great place with great people!!, 2014-06-14
Captain: , Newport, RI (20)

We brought our 55 foot Beneteau sailboat in here (at a high water period!) and had a great experience. The harbor master met us at the dock to assist us. His wife greeted us with home baked cookies! We had 30A shore power, water, and pump out. The bathrooms and showers were excellent. The easiest way to get to the downtown is to take your dinghy directly across the river to the downtown. But above all we enjoyed all the great people that we met. As an example, we needed to go to drug store so one of the visitors drove us. People good not have been nicer.

Shallow entrance, 2012-07-21
Captain: , Manitowoc, Wisconsin, USA (46)

On July 11, 2012, as crew on a Morgan 384, we were stuck fast in mud at the entrance to this marina. The most fundimental function of any marina facility is providing sufficent water depth to get there and, sadly, if your boat draws 6 feet of water or more, at Ontonago Municipal Marina you are excluded.

Deep drfat boats, 2012-03-14
Captain: , Duluth, MN (90)

Water entering the marina are too shallow for many boats. I have anchored just off the entry way at a wide spot across from the finger going into the town park.

Ditto previous remarks, 2012-02-24
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

Friendly staff but the nearby mill smells horrible in a west wind.

Ontonagon Municipal Marina, 2011-04-16
Captain: , Hammond Bay (1841)

This marina is up the river on the west side. The marina is a long dock with fingers off of it. In 2009 there was 9' at the outer docks and 5' in close to the office. Pump outs and gas was available.

Firiendly but low water, 2011-02-06
Captain: , Bayfield, WI (20)

Lovely, clean marina on the other side of the river. A bit of a hike to get to town but the harbormaster is very generous. We arrived late in the day and he drove us to the hardware store. Very narrow entry...we draw 4'8" and have a 12'6" beam...we squeaked through the red & green entrance markers and hugged the fuel dock to avoid shoal water.
