Reviews for Brewer Onset Bay Marina
Nice marina.  Great, helpful staff , 2017-09-01
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (470)

Typical Brewer marina.  Nice docks.  Great staff that was very helpful.  Toilet and shower facilities are very basic, but adequate.  Walk to the Onset village is only about 15 minutes.  Onset Bay is fairly well protected from all directions.  Dinghy ride to the town dock near the village takes about 10 minutes and very convenient to accessing restaurants and shops in the village center.  Not sure that we will return to Onset as the place seems to be an acquired taste given the other options along the Buzzards Bays western shore.

GREAT marina, 2017-08-05
Captain: , NYC - Liberty Landing (236)

Sailed up from Newport and stayed at the marina waiting for the morning tides into the CCC. Fabulous in every way. Highly communicative with us when inbound on Dockwa. Stopped for fuel ($2.709 for Diesel on 8/3/17), the hopped over to our slip. They put us (48' sailboat) on a T-head. Marina has clearly had a lot of recent improvements (docks, fuel, etc). Way more help than we expected tying up. Cute town...bit of a walk in, but a few places for dinner, ice cream, etc. Would definitely stop again if the opportunity presented.

Fuel Dock review-takes used oil, antifreeze & bad gas!, 2017-07-11
Captain: , san diego (151)

36 ft catamaran, used fuel services and fuel dock only, unable to comment on other services Dock was solid floating dock, easy to access, points straight out into mooring field and both sides can be used. Porbably just one boat per side at a time for a 20-60 ft boat. They have diesel and gas. Three employees helping out 2 boats. Super firendly, patient. They take old/bad gas and used oil and antifreeze for fee. Antifreeze was $5/gall, fuel ~$8 gal, missed price on oil, but they take it. They dump and return your containers to you at fuel dock. Website says open at 8, but they opened at 7AM duirgn our July visit. We anchored past mooring field and came in for fuel. AM winds were light, docking was easy with configuration.

Nice Marina, 2017-07-03
Captain: , Providence (443)

Well-kept, well-run marina near the entrance to the Cape Cod canal. When the wind blows from the south, it's a little bouncy.

Great Marina, 2017-06-02
Captain: , Rockland, Maine (60)

The wind was blowing 25k when we came in for fuel and water.. there were two knowledgeable and friendly dock hands to assist us getting on and off the dock. Very appreciated!

Great fuel dock, 2016-12-26
Captain: , Fowey UK (319)

Great fuel dock with excellent dock masters. You can also clear in from Canada if you give USCBC a heads up.

Great quiet and fantastic people., 2016-10-07
Captain: , Winnipesaukee NH (20)

Great stay. Narrow entry from the channel but depth stays at 20 on the low tide.
Staff is great and accommodating.

Quiet and Calm Location, 2016-09-02
Captain: , Dinner Key (50)

Easy marina to find. The staff were friendly and helpful. Stopped at the fuel dock and filled up and then picked up a mooring. A quiet and calm spot to spend the night. We will remember this spot for next time.

Wonderful and quiet village and harbor , 2016-08-26
Captain: , Marina Bay Quincy (10)

We had a great time staying at the marina. The staff was friendly and attentive to any of our needs. The full service facility was clean and very well maintained. We would consider returning for a visit in the future

Onset trip, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Danvers (10)

had a great time Jackson was extremely helpful and always available

Great marina. Very accommodating , 2016-08-21
Captain: , Riverside yacht club (10)

Dock attendants are very helpful. They really make it effortless. Docks are in great shape. They are very pet friendly. Bathhouse is very clean. Great prices on fuel. We will be returning soon!

Recently acquired yard...some renovations needed, 2016-08-10
Captain: , Wickford, RI (587)

Stayed atvone of the 10 moorings located just off the fuel dock. Dinghy docks are old and unstable. Hopefully on the list of planned improvements. Reasonably good wind and wake protection, located off the lower part of Cape Cod Canal. Good wifi. Reasonable walk to the quaint village of Onset. Pleasant dtaff encountered on the docks.

Improved Marina, 2016-08-07
Captain: , Newcastle NH (10)

J Brewer is making this Marina first class. Great Workers, many improvements, new Fuel System , New Fuel Dock. Worth a visit! Friendly Staff good stop.

Another Brewers, 2016-08-05
Captain: , Wickford, RI (560)

WOnderful location for transiting the canal. Like all Brewers staff is friendly and helpful. Some of the docks and equioment had begun to show some wear but Brweres is already investing in improvements. Very clean restrooms but a bit of a walk; longish walk to food and small stores but a very nice beach on the way.
The approach can be shallow so pay attention

We really enjoy Onset..., 2016-08-01
Captain: , Portsmouth, RI (10)

We stay at Brewer Onset every time we pass through the Cape Cod Canal, makes timing the tides much easier. While certainly not fancy, the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Nice harbor, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Salem ma (10)

Good staff. Clean, but utilitarian rest rooms. Harbor is shallow so exercise caution. Long way to most restaurants or decent grocery

Excellent marina, 2016-07-29
Captain: , Connecticut (30)

Very nice Marina in a sheltered spot. Staff very helpful.

Two days in onset MA. , 2016-07-28
Captain: , Branford , CT (20)

The manager was great, answered all the questions promptly , good service , dock crew was helpful and on time when needed . Town was quaint, I'm a brewers member and it is a new destination . I have confidence that brewers will make it a great destination .

Mooring @ OBM, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Bristol, RI (55)

Stayed here one night to catch fair tide North thru canal to P'town. Very sheltered, quiet, dinghy over to Onset town dock. Several restaurants there. Gas dock busy but convenient access. Dinghy tie up, no launch. Would stay here again.

New Brewers Yard!, 2016-07-26
Captain: , Branford ,CT (220)

This yard has been purchased by the Brewers group! I sure they will only improve on a very good marina! I am staying here in July and will report back then. 07/18/16-
The yard is not up to Brewers standards yet! The showers and head area need updating, But there is evidence that they are working on improving !
The dock master could not have been more helpful she was on the ball just need to train some of the dock staff a bit better

Not up to Brewer standards yet, 2016-06-21
Captain: , Amelia Island (141)

Alyssa (sp?) and an older gentleman who helped us onto the dock very friendly and welcoming. The service manager not so much; she did not seem interested in anything other than getting our credit card information, without telling us whether a mechanic would be available even to talk to about our electrical issue. Heads/showers, something of a hike from the docks, are early cinder-block chic.

Fuel Temporarily Not Available, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Sebastian, Florida (387)

Fuel dock is closed while they remodel. Can go next door.

Wonderful people, 2015-08-23
Captain: , New Bedford, MA (77)

Stayed two nights as a jump off stop for a tide friendly Cape Cod Canal cruise and then return down Buzzards Bay to New Bedford. Exceptionally helpful people. Well kept showers, head and laundry.

Excellent! , 2015-08-23
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (231)

OBM is very friendly and accommodating for transients. They will reserve a mooring by phone day of with a credit card. Harbor is very shallow but charts seem pretty accurate. Saw several sailboats anchored outside the mooring field. Calm, quiet night. Very good restaurant: Stone Bridge.

Great Service, 2015-08-04
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (420)

although the docks and facilities are nothing to brag about the service was great. Stopped here to change oil and have alternator problem resolved. Patricia in parts went out of her way to get the filters I needed and Kevin diagnosed a failed alternator all within the day.

onset bay marina, 2015-07-12
Captain: , Wicomico Church, VA (524)

Takes cash, check and credit card. Very pleasant on a BUSY Sunday morn.

Excellent Mooring Area, 2014-10-10
Captain: , Boston (71)

Great place to recover from the Buzzards Bay Bounce. Quick trip to CCC to make a favorable tide. Was a little concerned when 2 jetskis showed up, but they idled through the mooring area. Presume the Harbormaster has had prior contact. Channel to Town Pier was well marked, but still a little fuzzy about the turn to the buoys by the marina. Plenty of water so not a big issue.

Excellent service (pump out, diesel and even water), 2014-07-30
Captain: , Montreal (60)

We anchored in the bay, but made a stop at the marina fro diesel and pump pout. There was easy access to a free water hose to fill the tanks, which seems rare in New England marinas. Friendly and kind service dock staff.

fuel price only 7/22/2014, 2014-07-22
Captain: , Buzzards Bay (391)

diesel $3.89 mid grade $4.09 high $4.21

Nice - but what a ride coming in, 2014-07-13
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

Wow. Made the mistake of heading to Onset from the west with an ebb tide conflicting with strong SW winds. My goodness, the following seas were over 6-8 feet. That was a bit much for my taste. But once we turned the corner all was peaceful. The change was remarkable. Nice moorings. Quiet harbor. Unremarkable facility but staff was generous and offered to keep laundry open after hours. Restrooms and showers were ok.

Wonderfully responsive staff, 2014-03-26
Captain: , Boca Raton, Fl (639)

This is the Centenial Year for the CCC and reservations are going to be hard to get this summer. I contacted OB Marina via email and heard back from Kim Churbuck within 12 hours for a reservation in July as I and a buddy boat transir up down east to Maine. I've been here before. A good stop over.

good once you are in!, 2012-10-01
Captain: , Annapolis (451)

Getting in can bit a bit hairy. Abrupt turn between 2 greens, with appropriate winds & current on Buzzard's Bay. Narrow at entrance then OK. Protected & much calmer once inside. Mooring ball good, facilities good, staff friendly. Town's a bit gray. Bus service to excellent provisioning and stores.

Very Convenient For Canal Transit, 2012-09-25
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

Our recent stay was one night on a mooring, for $33 or so, after running the canal from the east. The rental moorings are close in to the docks. Pleasant staff, good restrooms/showers, always open. There is a small laundry, closed after office hours. The walk to town center is about 8/10ths of a mile, with sidewalks along the main streets.
We had dinner at the local Italian place, Mark Anthony's, on a Friday night; very busy, long rows of tables end to end in a large room, with pick-up service from a counter near the door. Sort of like a college dining hall, except with local people. Noise level was very high.

Accomodating Quick Stop, 2012-07-31
Captain: , Littleton, North Carolina (30)

We needed to get a prescription filled at the Bourne CVS. The staff found a place for us on their fuel dock and arranged for a taxi and dock service. Although their docks are to narrow for Catamarans their mooring field is extensive. Our anchored "neighbor" was also pleased with the staff arranging professionals to solve his fuel problems (polished and filter). His was also an unplanned stop on his way home to Maine.

Nice surprise, 2012-07-27
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1145)

The dock guys were great getting us tied up. It's about 8/10ths of a mile walk to town. Not a lot there except the basics. Ace hardware, Italian restaurant, pub, bar and ice cream shop!
It's a great spot to wait for a favorable tide to go thru the canal.

Rasonable mooring fee, 2012-04-09
Captain: , salem ma (380)

But no launch service. Ugh - had to inflate the dinghy...

Extremely Friendly and Helpful, 2011-08-11
Captain: , Kingston, NY (45)

I was placed on an Onset Bay Marina mooring by TowboatUS and the Canal Patrol after a grounding in the fog. The staff at Onset Bay Marina was extremely friendly, understanding and helpful. They hauled my boat the next day and began repairs immediately. They finished in a timely fashion and kept me apprised every step of the way. They waived mooring and slip fees for me and generally treated me like a valued customer. I can't say enough about the great customer service and the exceptional quality of the work they performed.

simple but adequate facilities, 2011-05-31
Captain: , Altantic Highlands (166)

A bit expensive ($108 5/11) for a slip but good service and facilities (fuel, pumpout, showers, etc). Perfect if the canal was the end of a long trip from Maine and you need a place to crash!

Very accomodating. (I don't see how "double charge scam" is possible), 2010-09-10
Captain: , Byram, CT (708)

They have everything you need here.

I don't see how the other reviewers "double charge scam" is possible -- the mooring fields for OBM and PIYC are separated by a very distinct fairway, and all moorings were clear;y labeled by both organizations. (9/2010) Perhaps things have changed, but it should not be a worry.

It's a Blast in Onset, 2010-07-15
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (465)

16 min walk to town. Free concerts at the town bandstand. Helpful marina staff. Good pizza at Anthony's. Market has limited but adequate selection, reasonable prices, good beer wine and liquor selection. Ace Hardware store.

Decent stop-over but watch-out for the double-charge scam, 2010-06-29
Captain: , Boston (621)

OK Maybe it's not an organized scam per se, but here's the thing: We stopped in recently for the night to wait for a favorable canal tide. Arrived in the evening just before the office closed. A kid at onset bay marina directed us to a mooring, came out on their launch and collected the fee but did not give us a receipt. The next morning, a guy from the adjacent yacht club (Point Independence) shows up, informs us that we're on his ball, and demands to be paid. He explains that its not the first time that one of the guys from Onset marine collected from boaters tied to one of his balls. He gets agitated and a bit threatening and refuses to leave empty-handed, so we pay him as well. We had to leave to catch our tide before Onset Marine opened so we never got our money back. Will know better next time...

Good stopover on the Western end of the Canal, 2010-04-23
Captain: , York, ME (1971)

This is a convenient stop for lunch and fuel, or for the night, if your plans put you at the Western end of the canal at the right time, or if you have to wait an hour or two for a current change. We've always found the staff very friendly.

Very nice stopover, 2010-03-06
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Especially after exiting the canal! Lovely town views of the harbor - they've done a nice job. Lots of Victorian homes. Pleasent marina. A couple of decent restaurants in town (short walk).

Clean and quaint, 2009-08-05
Captain: , Sarasota Florida (80)

Spent a night on a mooring ball here. The local pizza joint (Mark Anthonys) delivers to the fuel dock . Great pizza and nice surroiundings for an early start through the Cape Cod canal.

Excellent Marina and Services, 2007-04-30
Captain: , Newport, RI (249)

Staff and facilities are great and offer full services. Harbor view is quite scenic. Town shopping is about 1/2 mile walking distance. Protected sandy beaches for swimming and very good restaurants. New England classic at its best.
