Reviews for Old Lyme Marina
The way a boat yard should be, 2015-08-12
Captain: , Rowayton Cy. (10)

While transiting Long Island Sound, single handed, I started taking on water. After terrible treatment at a well nown marina, I went to Old Lyme Marina. I was hauled, and the work was started immediately. It was completeted in a timely fashion, at an hourly rate that is understandable, by a very competent employee. They went out of their way for me, and I was treated like a special client, even though my first time there. Great location, very natural area, friendly people, and a spotless boat yard. If closer, I would give serious consideration to having my boat there.

Wonderful Small Marina, 2013-08-08

I moved my boat here this year and have been very happy. The marina is well protected, but close to the Sound. The staff is friendly and helpful. The mooring rates are reasonable. If you are looking for a quiet night near a few key amenities. this is a great choice.

Inexpensive mooring and it's a very friendly facility, 2013-07-30

We ended up staying here after finding North Cove too tight and the moorings too light for our size boat (39 foot trimaran). the mooring cost $32 including tax and launch service. It's a very friendly facility and I highly recommend it.

It's also only a 10 minute walk to a Big-Y supermarket, a gourmet coffee shop and Tru Value hardware store, with lots of other stores too.

Beautiful river scenery and lots of river wildlife -- enjoyed watching the eagles and turkey vultures do their thing.

The only negative is that the parking lot is sharp gravel and my dog couldn't walk on it without injuring his paw pads. I had to carry the dog to the paved road which is at least 100 feet from the dock.

Exemplary Small business and great Staff, 2012-12-07
Captain: , Charleston SC (693)

I moored my boat here in the 1980's when Glen's dad owned the marine. We went through Hurricane Gloria (1984) here with no damage. The MArina staff was out in their workboat insureing that no harm came to vessels in their care. It was a good place to stay then and an even better one now under Glen's stewardship.

I left Willet (48' LOA 5' 9" draft) there for the month of May 2012 on my way north. They are wonderful people and have very reasonable (for the area) prices.

Also, they have an extensive service area that was added since I was there in the 1980's.

Quiet spot, good marina, 2011-09-28

Stayed on a mooring twice, once before Hurrican Irene and once after Irene and TS Lee had done their best to wash New England into Long Island Sound....good facility but be careful entering. You need to stay between the moored boats; water is good (thinnest I saw was 10 feet) but current can provide some interesting approaches to mooring balls. Second time there, we had some bumping from debris during the night. Nothing damaging even though I understand moored boats in Essex actually were torn loose from mooring balls due to debris. Thus, Old Lyme's out of the way location is certainly a plus. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Pleasant small marina, 2011-08-16

Great out of the way place to stay. Access is tricky for 6 feet draft boats: narrow shallow channel at low tide. Go a little further and pick up a free town mooring.

Great Bargain Safina...Solomons MD, 2011-06-19
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

Well protected, convienient, with slips,$30mooring, walking to shops. Glen was friendly and has a nice launch service included in price.

Great Place, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Bayshore (173)

I arrived on July 6 2010, at 7:30 pm. They were very helpful, only one open in town at this time. Docked up at their floating dock, fueled up, added water, used their clean hot showers, ate our meals on their outside tables, left the next day. Electric was available if needed.
Very hospitable and friendly people. Walked by the bird santuary. Bring bug repellent. Across the river was a restaurant and bar.

Nice, Small and Helpful, 2010-08-09
Captain: , Looking for a Home (180)

Very helpful adn competent service staff, Yanmar service, nice moorings, current really rips, plenty of shopping: A&P liquor store, take out, etc. within walking distance.

Beautiful, 2008-09-29
Captain: , City Island, NY (120)

Spotlessly clean, well-managed little marina in an enchanting location. As of July, 2008 a transient mooring cost $40.

Terrific courtesy and service, 2007-01-26
Captain: , Rockland, Maine (13)

I bought a project boat that was luckily at Old Lyme Marina. They rebuilt the engine and did a superlative job, albeit at a slower pace and higher price than expected (happened right at the fall rush). While it was being repaired, I was often at the marina doing my own work, and their courtesy and helpfulness could not be beat. The prior owner of the boat (who moored there for over ten years) also had nothing but praise for them. The moorings are sheltered, but a short distance from L.I. sound. Food and supplies are short distance away.
