Reviews for Oak Harbor Marina
Nice Marina, Little out of the way, 2016-08-18
Captain: , Whittier Alaska (609)

This is a great marinia if you can get by all the crab traps in the narrow channel and bay. Good staff and facilities. Stay a week and recieve a discount.

Well managed but shallow depth marina, 2016-07-06
Captain: , Seattle, WA (20)

We stayed one night there on 7/1/2016. The marina is well run, and the stuff has been very helpful. I gave only 3 stars for two reasons:
- we had a reservation, but when we came our spot was taken by some random boat, one of the many starting the crabbing season on that day. Not enough people in the marina to enforce the reservations. Thankfully we found another open moorage.
- the guest docks have good depth, but the approach to the fuel dock is not dredged sufficiently. The harbormaster told us that there is only 6ft (MLW) of depth between docks C and D on the way to fuel dock - not enough for our boat.

Nice Marina, 2016-07-06
Captain: , Liberty Bay Washington (400)

Usually stay here on our way from Poulsbo WA, to the San Juans when we take the inside route. Usually reasonable rates on fuel and slips. Not a lot to do as it is a ways to walk for old folks like us so just stay on the boat and relax after dodging all the crab traps on the way in. EVEN IN THE ENTRANCE CHANNEL!!!

Friendliest marina in the PacNW, 2016-06-15
Captain: , Breakwater Marina (83)

For some mysterious reason, everyone at this marina -- staff and renters alike -- are the most consistently friendly people of any marina I've visited in my travels around the Salish Sea. Everyone at least says "hello," and many strike up a conversation. If you're in reciprocal moorage, OHYC members will stop by to invite you to the Club that evening and to advise you what the special is.

Best Diesel Fuel Price, 2016-06-06
Captain: , Everett, Washington (824)

When we thought that Anacortes had the best diesel price, we happen to call Oak Harbor and checked their website and found that their price was $.50 less than our homeport. If you stay the night, there is an additional discount because they are using their fuel price to entice boaters to come. The fuel dock is on the southside of the breakwater and is at the head of the ramp. Out 40' foot boat was backed into the limited space but was do-able and would do it again. The employees were fabulous and helpful.

Good place for beginners to practice docking skills, 2011-10-14
Captain: , Algonac, MI (1659)

I spent some time working with my wife to teach her docking skills. The outer docks are wide and have an easy approach within the breakwater

Good marina and good access to fuel, 2011-02-12
Captain: , Olalla, WA (342)

Great access to the commisary and Navy Exchange for those that can partake. The visitor slips are at the extreme end of the marina and at least a 15 min walk so this marina is not for the faint of heart. Godd showers and bathrooms are good. There are portapotties on the breakwater and they are kept up so no concerns walking all the way to the marina office. You can even pay at the pay box on the breakwater if you don't want to walk to the main office. There are only two recip moorages and they are the most extreme end of the marina.

No Joke - Well Run Marina, 2011-01-01
Captain: , Oak Harbor, WA (49)

This marina is very well kept with clean docks and a friendly staff. It is indeed a "public" facility so the outer, guest docks are used by fishermen when the smelt run. Most everyone seems to be able to tolerate each other. On weekends only one or two staff members (out of 6 total) are on duty so occasionally they are tied up trying to deliver fuel or respond to some other urgency. They monitor VHF 16. In December 2010 they began operations to dredge areas around the main walkway, the outer breakwater and near the fuel dock. Dredging will be completed during the spring of 2011.

Visiting yacht club members (with reciprocal privileges) are invited to visit the adjacent Oak Harbor Yacht Club...the Friday night burger night is a potluck affair with visitors bringing a dish to share and purchasing their burger from the bartender.

This Marina is a joke., 2010-03-16
Captain: , ANONYMOUS (193)

This marina is extremely poorly kept. Fishermen use the outer docks for fishing, and the level of security is extremely low. I tried to contact marina staff, waited over 2 hours to meet up with them, and eventually gave up and left.

It was a pity that I paid, considering I am 100% sure they were not keeping up with the transient moorage paperwork.

Oak Harbor Marina, 2009-08-17
Captain: , Brownsville, WA (558)

The previous reviews are accurate. Those with military commissary and exchange previleges will enjoy easy access to those NAS Whidbey facilties.

The fifth Ed. of the Burgee Book shows 4 reciprocal berths. Ther are only 2.

Oak Harbor Marina, 2007-07-29
Captain: , Olympia (1435)

Nice marina. Good docks. Always enjoy staying here when we can.

Oak Harbor Marina, 2007-02-23
Captain: , Anacortes, Wa (115)

The Oak Harbor Marina is an excellent facility, well maintained and with great personnel. They are happy to meet you on arrival and handle lines if requested.

They do have communication problems. They are listed as monitoring VHF channel 16 and a local telephone number. They respond about half the time if called.

The fuel dock is tight but has fresh diesel and the cost is usually very good.

There is a free shuttle bus into town from the head of the dock. The Oak Harbor Yacht Club has a hamburger night on Friday evening. All reciprocal yacht clubs are welcome to join in on the hamburgers. Check in at the bar for more information.
