Reviews for North Minneford Yacht Club
Okay but rowdy , 2016-08-08
Captain: , haverstraw (191)

This marina had stable docks but rowdy crowds with a heavy stench of marijuana through out the night. Very busy with many boats coming in and out and many not obeying the "no wake" rule. Other than that it was a nice place to stay with many really good seafood restaurants around

Good for day or two, 2015-05-26
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1520)

We picked this as a place to stop after passage through NY up the East River. We had a good welcome by both the staff and local boaters. Good solid floating docks, a bit of a walk to office and facilities.
This is a good place to be hungry, lots of places to eat from one end of the 1.5 mi island to the other. Small IGA grocery just down the street.

Interesting Experience, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Crockett (610)

Upon arrival we were told their 50 amp service was down and they had an electrician coming later in the week. After I explained the only reason we were staying was for power they had a guy show up in an hour?

The electrician fixed the breaker in searing heat and humidity while the entire marina staff watched smoking cigarettes, I finally offered the poor guy water as I thought he might drop dead right there.

The staff and marina residence don't let you forget that you are in the Bronx, it's a bit weird actually. We also had no less than 6 requests from folks to board and tour our boat, catamarans are not very popular here I suppose and the locals were intrigued. . . we weren't. It was a bit uncomfortable having folks make that kind of request then to mumble things under their breath when turned away.

Inexpensive stop for NYC, 2013-06-16
Captain: , Texas (455)

We stayed here for almost a week and used it as a base to visit NYC via bus and subway. The area is very quaint and a nice community. You can walk anywhere on the island. Most of the boats here are motor boats, but also some sailboats. It is a long walk from the dock to the showers, etc. Docks were good in all, but a strong NE wind where it got very rough. Most of the permanent boats have rubber shock cords on their dock lines to help absorb the bucking. The breakwater helps some, but we would have been in trouble if I had not tied securely with multiple lines.

Nice Marina, 2013-01-13
Captain: , Edgewater (321)

We have stayed here once. The staff was very nice and they have good mechanics on staff. The bathrooms are gloomy but large. There is a large deck for BBQing, bit there was always a load party going on there day and night. Usually very loud on the weekend. I found the boat owners less than friendly and a boat that was traveling with us had all of the liquor stolen from their cockpit bar while out to dinner. Nothing terribly wrong here, just a weird feeling. We prefer South Minneford Yacht Club.

Easy to Navigate to & from, 2012-09-06
Captain: , Bronx NY (87)

I keep my boat here & have rack service.
The staff is very professional & polite. The site is as clean as can be - large groups who enter should be better managed by the boat owner who allow them to use the facilities. Aside from that the staff and location makes this place ideal for a quick / long stay.

very nice staff, 2011-05-17

Mixed Bag, 2011-02-03
Captain: , New York Harbor (495)

I have had a slip here for the season but gave it up at a financial loss after learning that wakes and Northeasters create havoc on he docks here.
A good place to tie up for a few hours to wait for the tide to turn at Hells Gate.

I Miss the Old City Island, But ..., 2009-08-01
Captain: , Barnegat NJ USA (610)

We stopped at NMYC in July 2009 to enjoy dockside amenities at the conclusion of a 2 week cruise in Rhode Island. I had not visited City Island for almost 30 years, but I was prepared for the changes that have occurred. It's no longer an old-timey fishing village in Gotham, but is now a bedroom community for NYC. Still, some of the old charm remains. You can still find a special breakfast place or an old marine salvage store. And the people are still just as nice and interesting as ever. The NMYC facility was quite acceptable, with friendly staff and good bathrooms. However the docks are no place to ride out a heavy NE winds, as we found out. The surge is very tough, and I had to don the oilies and fit extra lines in the early AM just to be secure. Also there is current among the floats, so boat handling has to be precise. We would go back, but with a heavy wind expected, we'd probably run around to the west side.

Clean and modern, 2008-07-17
Captain: , New York City (53)

Have not stayed here, just visited to explore seasonal rental options. Bathrooms are newly renovated and clean. Moderate sized deck available for barbeques and parties.
