Reviews for North Harbor
Active Harbor right Downtown, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Juneau, AK (288)

First, if your boat doesn't have an isolation transformer you likely cannot use power in this new marina. Ask for a slip in the south Marina which is still only 3 blocks from downtown. Harbormaster is friendly and helpful and everything is within easy walking distance. The larger grocery store, a mile out towards the airport, for major restocking, has a free shuttle; their number is posted throughout the three marinas.

New docks and power system - need some kinks ironed out, 2016-04-28
Captain: , Cowichan Bay, BC (838)

We arrived shortly after they turned on the power. I hope the electrician gave them a deal because many of the pedestals are dead and nobody seems to care. That is largely the result of them having put in GFI outlets so when someone reports that a pedestal is dead their standard response is "its your boat's fault". No doubt that's true some of the time but its clearly not always the case and until they actually fix the defective installation it will continue to be an annoyance for visitors. We elected to tie up with no power rather than continue to argue with managers who clearly didn't care.

Feb 2016
We returned and the power was working fine. Still GFIs but we can tie up now. Nothing had changed on our end.

Great town, great people, nice new docks, 2015-10-07
Captain: , Cruising (3259)

The new docks here are really nice - heavy, sturdy, and the stalls are very wide. The power is all GFCI compliant which is a problem for some boats, though we had no problems at all. The harbormaster and staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and the town is just lovely. There are some nice hikes just across the harbor on Kupreanov Island - tie your dinghy to the public float there, as well as muskeg trails right in town and a wooded trail at Sandy Beach park. There are mostly fishing boats here, but everyone is friendly. They take a lot of pride in their boats and town, and things are very clean and well cared for.

Great place to stop, 2015-07-06
Captain: , Kirkland, WA (4478)

North harbor docks are all new and in very good condition. Walking the Norwegian heritage town is a delight. The grocery store in town and just a block or two from North Harbor is good. However, the better grocery option is a bike ride/taxi/free shuttle ride out of town toward the airport, Hammer & Wikan. There are several restaurants in town that are OK. North harbor has the latest shorepower which caused us problems on our boat. South harbor has more traditional shorepower.

OK Marina but no restaurant in town, 2014-08-21
Captain: , Mercer Island, WA (612)

The North Harbor Marina has been recently rebuilt and is a good place to get power and water. It is a very busy place with fishing boat constantly coming in to unload their catch in the various fish processing plants. Petersburg is a busy fishing industry town but has very little facilities for cruisers. Most restaurants have gone bankrupt and there is only one place in town and their facility is limited to a tent and garden tables and chairs. I would recommend Wrangell rather than Petersburg if you want to stop for a little R&R during a long cruise.

New Facility - Friendly Staff, 2014-07-04
Captain: , Austin (421)

We had no issues with the GFI protected electrical outlets, but the HarborMaster was sensitive to the issue. The shower had broken and was not available. We enjoyed the working docks and meeting the fishermen. The docks are exposed and you have current, wake and wind exposure to varying degrees. We enjoyed Petersburg and recommend going to the town info center to see what is avaiable. Inga's Galley is a great restaurant!

Good location, but not much else, 2014-01-06
Captain: , Algonac, MI (1659)

Bathroom is very "institutional". Docks are tired, but solid. Showers at the laundromat up the street. Small grocery on the main street, or a bigger one about a mile away.
