Reviews for Grandview Palace Yacht Club
Poorly run by people with no marina eperience, 2013-04-02
Captain: , Hilton Head Island, SC (377)

The price was right ($500 for a month for a 45' sailboat), but it turned out not to be such a bargain in the end. The old saying that you get what you pay for has more than a ring of truth about this place.

I should have known that something didn't smell right when I was never permitted to speak to a dockmaster when making arrangements on the phone. I had to talk to the condo sales office each time even after requesting the dockmaster's phone number. I asked whether they had floating docks and was told they do. If I had been able to speak directly to a dockmaster, I'm sure I wouldn't have been surprised upon arrival to find that the docks were fixed.

The problem is that a condo saleswoman and an accountant run the marina, and they know nothing at all about marinas or boats for that matter. It appears that almost all of the marina tenants are permanent and there are few, if any, transients. The permanent slip tenants have added fenders and other guards to the pilings, but the vacant slips have no protection whatsoever.

The amenities are few, and the woman's shower had a shower curtain that was covered in mildew. It was so disgusting that my wife refused shower there.

There is little wake and current protection, and we listened to water lapping against the hull all night.

The bottom line is that this facility is an afterthought to a condo development and should be given a wide berth by transients. Don't be fooled by the fancy-sounding name, there's definitely nothing "grand" about this place.
