Reviews for Norseman Shipbuilding
Great service, 2016-02-18
Captain: , Kahului, HI (40)

We arrive in late January 2016 with a transmission problem on our 44? sailboat. We had called around and felt this boat yard was our best bet. It was fortunate timeing as they were a little on the quiet side which still meant they had a lot of boats coming and going. It is a busy boat yard. While we were waiting for transmission expertise we decided to have the bottom painted as the last job was done very poorly. Rick fastracked everything as best he could knowing we had a tight timeline. The bottom was sandblasted and reprimed and painted. Although he tried to accomodate our request to get out of the yard asap Rick would not accept anything less than the paint manufacturers specifications for drying times between coats along with other application details. I was there the whole time and the workers were very conscientious at every step with the cleaning, patching, priming etc. The same with the mechanics who were looking after the transmission. I was very satisfied with the quality. The prices seemed in line with other yards we priced. The boat is from Canada and we are certainly price conscious. Especially with the current exchange rates. Always difficult to compare boat repair prices from one yard to the next when you do not even know the extent of the problem going in. Boat repair bills like car repair bills are more often than not a surprise but if you have to get the work done you need to trust the facility and I have no reason to doubt that we had great service and expertise at a fair market price.

Rick surprised me with large bill and ONLY TAKES CASH. They charged me for a lot of things they either did not do, or did such a lousy job it wasn't apparent they did it at all. Very disappointed.
