Additional info:

Approach the breakwaters from the East, once through the breakwaters, turn to starboard and head for the pier on which the fishing boats lie, and when close to the pier, alter to the port and make for the pontoons. Always contact HM before entry to make sure berth is available, watch out for fishing boats. On the approach to the harbour keep a close watch for marker buoys on the fish pots.
In strong onshore/southerly winds, large breaking seas will be encountered at the breakwaters. If you need to enter, go for high water.

There are a couple of dangers. The Gear Rock lies just to the south of Penzance and is marked with an isolated danger beacon. Keep well south of the beacon. To the south is Low Lee Rock, marked by an East Cardinal buoy, and close NW of Low Lee is Cam Base Rock, 1.1m and 1.8m respectively.

Reviews for Newlyn Harbour
Newlyn Fishing Port, 2013-03-29
Captain: , Conwy, N. Wales (13848)

Newlyn is a working fishing port, so it's not really set up for visiting yachts. Having said that, there are two pontoons which sometimes have berths available for visitors, but these were built with funding specifically to promote fishing, so it's important to contact the harbour master in advance to check availability. We called before leaving Falmouth and they were extremely friendly and informative on the phone, and we picked an available pontoon berth when we arrived. You will be surrounded by fishing boats of all shapes and sizes and they are active 24 hours a day. We were fully prepared for this and were very happy staying in Newlyn - it's an interesting port to stay in with plenty going on. We met the stand-in harbour master when we arrived, and he was really helpful, which was especially appreciated as he clearly was very busy dealing with unloading and storage of fish. We had a really good meal in The Smuggler's Resturant overlooking the harbour, the fish here comes straight off the boats, into the fish market and into the restaurant. The only way to get it fresher is to catch it yourself! One thing we can't comment on is the facilities - we used our shower and heads on board (holding tank) as the procedure to get the key seemed quite complex.

Not great for facilities, but a nice friendly harbour. The place is dead in the winter, but in the summer is heaving with tourists

Deeper than Reeds claims it, nice people, industrial harbour, electricity, water, 18 per night, save, an alternative to Penzance.
Don't use the fishermans showers...I like it!
