Reviews for New River Marina
just a stop, 2017-08-18
Captain: , Honolulu (490)

S/V Delphinia

This is a fuel dock not a marina. Nice that they let us stop on the dock overnight but told us to leave at low tide first thing in the morning. Ran aground just around the corner and sat for two hours with our 6'6" draft waiting for high tide. Again good night stop but we should have anchored and waited out the low tide.

Still $1.75 + tax, 2017-06-29
Captain: , Naples Florida (246)

Laid on the fuel dock overnight for $1/ft. There is only one 30 amp service that I could find but used a pigtail into the 15amp supply to run the house power. Some wake until sunset but quiet night.

Fantastic fuel prices and service , 2017-06-10
Captain: , Verona WI (292)

As everyone else has noted this is the best fuel price around. Advertised price 1.749 with tax $1.862. We phoned ahead so someone met us at the dock and helped us tie up. (Be aware the number listed currently on AC is no longer a working number but I have submitted an edit so may be correct after today. The correct number as of 6/10/17 is 910-327-2106.) Need to put out horizontal fenders for the posts if you don't want to rub. Easy in and out.

Best fuel price on ICW ... BUT, 2017-05-11
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1025)

Best fuel price on the ICW.

BUT #1: The posted fuel price (the sign at the marina) does NOT include 7% tax. It is still the lowest on the Waterway, but jus' sayin'.

BUT #2: On the north side of the fuel dock, about 10 feet out is a very shallow spot. Not only did I ground, but so did a much saller boat after me. It wouod probably be better to approach from the south and at a large angle to the dock.

Best fuel stop on east coast, 2016-04-26
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

4-26-16 Diesel $1.65 gal with tax. Easy in and out.

Fuel pays for your night, 2015-10-20
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

We called by cell phone ahead and had Gene meet us at the dock to help tie up and hand us the diesel pump. We filled up with the cheapest fuel going south to date; around $2. Because we were the last customers (they close at 5 p.m), we were able to tie up to the fuel dock for $1/foot. 20 amp electric and our wifi badboy allowed us to tap into their wifi. P=9103272106 if you arrive late. boat traffic, so proper fenders and we suggest leaving your anchor light on.

Good Service and Great fuel price, 2015-06-13
Captain: , Ft. Collins, CO (331)

We stopped today on the way north and paid $2.34/gal for Diesel. The service was great, they answered the phone promptly and the service was excellent. This dock services many of the commercial fishermen and thus has a high turnover of fuel. The dock was fixed but a low tide we had a perfect fit and could step off. Did not need fenders. Hight recommend this place for fuel.

Cheap Fuel, 2015-06-04
Captain: , Little River, SC (278)

Stopped here for fuel on 05-24-15. Active Captain showed them to be the cheapest fuel in NC. Topped off with 150 gallons. Staff was nice, friendly, and efficient. The store is nice. Will not stop there again if there is a lot of boat traffic or very windy. Tie up is straight to pilings, no rub railing at all. Have to have fenders set perfectly because every boat seems to come by at full speed and lots of wake action. Will pass it up unless the conditions are much better than last time. It was windy and Memorial Day weekend when we stopped.

no answer, no business, 2015-02-23
Captain: , Michigan (31)

Sent several emails, and called several times over a week period with no answer. Choose to pay almost double to stay at Swan Point, which is right next door.

The unfriendliest crew we ever met, 2015-01-06
Captain: , Santa Maria CV (415)

Called in the morning to tell we will come in for the night in the afternoon. Called again at 4:30pm phone and VHF no answer. The place is hard to dock in current without help.
The next morning not even awake a guy came shouting for us to come to the office. We came in asking for help to leave and why there has been no one answering the day before and help. Got the answer its a private marine, they don`t have to. And they also don`t have to be here. The lady wantet to charge us 3 days instead of 1 because of that question. Asked if there is someone to help us out, also... they don`t have to.
Hopefully no one has to stop here. Sad experience.

Super Nice, 2014-12-14
Captain: , Evergreen , Colorado (191)

Easy in easy out . Stopped for fuel at low tide , I need 5.5 and had no issues. Typical southern hospitality , helped tie up at dock and very polite . Not much in store but munchies but good stock for fishermen.

Friendly and hardworking crew, 2014-11-03
Captain: , Camp Lejeune, NC (40)

Deisel at a great price, but be prepared on approach to pay; they're busy during the warmer seasons. Decent shop with fishing and boating gear here, too.

Good Fuel Prices, 2014-02-14
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (432)

I draw 4 feet. I had no problem pulling up for fuel as others have mentioned, which is one of the lowest costs on the ICW in NC. Service was nice and friendly. A big fishing store inside.

Run aground here!, 2013-11-18
Captain: , Pensacola, Florida (50)

The dockhand was clueless, shiftless, and worthless. The depth at the north end of the dock is about 3.5 feet and no warning from the dockhand. Had to winch off. Pass it by.

Nice Ships Store - Good fuel prices, 2013-10-28
Captain: , Swansboro (674)

Well stocked grocery/ships store. Good place to reprovision.

Good fuel prices.

Some local folks in Sneads Ferry tend to be a little "cliquish", but the folks running the marina and ships store are friendly and accommodating.

10 Feet at the Dock?? Who ya kidding?!, 2013-08-22
Captain: , Rochester, NY (493)

SV Passage draws a good 6 feet, so we call ahead werever we go.

New River assured us that depth was adequate at the fuel dock, but we came to a gooey stop just 15 feet short of the dock.

Managed to back out and at the dock-hand's encouragement, tried another tack, from which we bottomed out again and barely were able to back out.

Didn't try a third time.

There was a big trawler at the dock, but as far as wwe could tell, it's less than 6 feet depth from pretty much any angle.

Sure made for a long day.

New River Marina, 2013-03-10
Captain: , Jacksonville, NC (154)

Excellent put-in for recreational and sportfishing clientele. Full service marina with boat parts and sales, fishing gear and plenty of local knowledge. Charter fishing and dive operators are here too! Local King Mackeral Tournament in the fall is held here. The inlet is close by, clamming, oystering, and an abundance of fishing is here. Gas and diesel available.. locals use this spot regularly!

Don't bother unless it's an emergency, 2013-01-18
Captain: , New Hamburg, NY (140)

Got there late. No one to help dock and there was a stiff wind, making it very difficult. Electricity and water not easily acceptable. People in the general store were very helpful and courteous. When you leave, heading north, shouling on the western side of channel.

2012 Oct 6th p Stop, 2012-10-04
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (650)

Not fancy, but one of our favorite stops beacause of cheap fuel (3.80 per gallon with tax included 10/6/2012), friendly people and it's right on ICW. Still $1/foot. They now have one 30 amp electric service for first boat to stop so we had our AC without running generator.

Only in a storm, 2012-07-02
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (200)

Otherwise keep on motoring

Paid $3.09 +tax, 2012-06-06
Captain: , St. Petersburg FL (187)

A stiff breeze from the Atlantic can keep you pinned to the dock and make it difficult to get away.

This is not a marina, 2012-01-08
Captain: , Shinnecock Bay, NY (610)

This is not a marina, it's a fuel dock that they let you tie up for the night. $1.00/ft but it's over priced. No electricity, no water, no pump out. Fuel only. If you tie up for the night prepair for a rocky night. Everything going by rocks you. Low tide there is a little over 7' at the dock.

Great Fuel Stop, 2011-11-15
Captain: , Annapolis (602)

A favorite fuel stop of ours going south and north - always has a much lower price than other marinas within 150+ miles. Pumps a lot of diesel so very fresh. Some current but turn into it before approaching docks and no problem. When northbound, angle away from docks smartly, rocky shoal along shoreline just past entrance to boat slips north of fuel dock.

Best Fuel Price, 2011-11-09
Captain: , Edenton, NC (887)

Paid $3.48/gal for diesel with tax included 11/11. As a isn't much. But the price of fuel always seems to be better than any place within hundreds of miles. Be aware of the current, there seems to be an eddie close to the fuel dock that is weak but counter to the tide. Have experienced this three times, certainly manageable. Just was unexpected the first couple times.

Forgot to tell us a few things before we got there, 2010-12-10
Captain: , Detroit, MI (160)

We knew the electricity was going to be tricky because they only had 110 available, but didn't know that the showers and running water were turned off until we got there all tied up! The only redeeming factors were that the dock master was very helpful in getting us in and tied up and the diesel price was great. A port in a storm maybe but not worth the nightly fee.

Not really a marina but ...., 2010-10-27
Captain: , Deltaville (200)

Marina is overstating it a bit. You get to tie up to the bulkhead at the fuel dock where there's room for maybe 3 boats.

Having said that ..... the fuel prices can't be beat $2.27 Diesel / $2.87 Gas. The dockage is only $1 per foot and the staff here are very welcoming and helpful.

The marine store was the big surprise. Mainly fishing oriented but with a whole load of things applicablle to sailboating at much cheaper than West Marine prices.

Nice area to get off and walk dog etc.

Showers are clean but basic.

Good fuel stop and that's it., 2010-06-29
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Long side bulkhead close to ICW very exposed to any wakes from boaters as you fuel. May have to wait in current to fuel as is a popular spot. more of a trailer park with a boat ramp.
price as of June 27, 2010 $2.32.9 plus 7.5% tax. Note fuel cost sign does not include tax.

Captain DAK 466 Carver, 06/15/10, 2010-06-17
Captain: , CHICAGO (278)

Stopped in passing three times in the last two years. They have been consistant with their much lower fuel prices than other marina's within 100 miles in each direction. from my expirrence. Today was 2.32.9, and the next lower price going north 2.68. Southern price was 2.92 The facility has easy access to fuel, and the staff is accomodating. The prices are always posted in big #'s out front.

Great pit stop, 2009-07-04
Captain: , Fort Myers (769)

If you are looking for cheap fuel, this is the place. They beat the competition by .20/gallon for miles around. Approach is simple with easy in and easy out. Nice marine store with lots of food and repair items. Restrooms aren't much, but the people are very nice.

Low gas and fuel prices!, 2009-04-19
Captain: , Topsail Beach, NC (480)

If you can make it to New River Marina from the north or from the south you will find the cheapest gas or fuel here than anywhere within several hundred miles. Small boats may go into the protected basin to gas up. Larger boats can easily pull up to the outside parallel dock.
Well stocked ships store, suitable bathrooms.

Basic Dock, 2007-07-26
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, FL (79)

No frills, no elec, cheap dock.Very friendly and helpful. Local restaurant will pick you up.
Well stocked marine store
