Reviews for New Bern Grand Marina and Yacht Club
Great Event Venue!, 2017-02-21
Captain: , Palm Coast, FL (472)

MTOA held a regional rendezvous at New Bern Grand Marina in 2016. The staff were great! Everyone did everything possible to accommodate our group, from pre-planning to completion. The slipowners we met were great too, very friendly and helpful. We'll be back!

NB Grand Marina Yacht Club is a grand place to stay, 2017-01-09
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1014)

Have slips for sale, as well as rent and for transient. Reduced 25% cost for AGLCA or MTOA and weekly/monthly rates were very attractive, along with great facilities and excellent staff. New Bern is rich with history, sites, and tours, as well as close by restaurants. The adjacent Double Tree offers a wonderful Sunday buffet (with both prime rib and seafood) and Friday night cooked to order seafood (i.e., fresh claims, shrimp, & MiaMia) at reasonable cost. Unless you walk up to the Double Tree discretely, it is a long way to the dockmaster's office and facilities, which are very nice and clean, too.

Enterprise offers a $9.95/day 3-day weekend special rate 252-514-2575 Ext. 4.

I am updating this review to make clear that this is a marina, which also has a yacht club, so all transients are welcome.
It is truly a grand marina in every respect! We keep a boat here because the marina is well protected and the dockhands constantly roam the docks to make sure every boat is secure; they do this even more throughout any storm! The dockhands are all skilled and very personable. The hotel has an excellent restaurant with great bar food, and marina boaters are given a 10% discount. New Bern itself is a mini-Savannah with wonderful galleries and fine restaurants. This is a marina you really should visit, for a night or two, or forever! They have great shower and laundry facilities, and a nice marina office that supplies coffee every morning. There is a wonderful sense of community in this marina, which has attracted really nice tenants. The staff also looks out for every person here to insure that all is well with everyone. They have installed new heavy duty security gates and locks to keep people out who have no business just roaming the docks. There is a newly redecorated boaters' lounge and the marina provides free catered lunch get-togethers twice each month. The marina also has its own yacht broker who is very highly regarded, extremely qualified, and very successful, if you want to sell or buy a boat. This is a pet friendly marina and there are lots of nice dogs here. This is a floating dock marina with full length finger piers and very little current. You will not find a nicer marina anywhere! You can also buy a slip here and join the yacht club with lots of extra amenities and benefits.

Nice side trip off the ICW, 2016-12-10
Captain: , Herrington South, Rose Haven, MD. USA (36)

Very friendly marina, and dog friendly too. Great town with lots of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Could not find a bad meal anywhere in town in the 2 weeks we spent here. Long walk to reprovision so get a cab. Be sure and vist the "Old Fashion" Hardware store.

Top Notch, 2016-10-29
Captain: , Pensacola (449)

We ended up spending the summer at this marina and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. New Bern is a great little town and the marina is hard to beat. Doug and his team all do a tremendous job! The only negative is that there is nothing close by for provisioning, and there is no courtesy car.

Super accomodating, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Annapolis (264)

I was in the area for an RYA course and couldn't leave the area due to weather. BE casue the marina had a few extra open docks, we radioed in and asked if we could practice docking for the day. The marina allowed us to dock our 40' Cat over and over again in all sorts of conditions and wind. Becasue they were so helpful and allowed us to do this exercise, I have become a much safer boater - especially when it comes to docking in tight spaces!

Stopped for a week-end - Stayed 2 weeks!, 2016-07-21
Captain: , Savannah, GA (320)

Yes, New Burn, N.C. is located 22 miles off the ICW up the Neuse River. Yes, it is worth your time to visit! We came for a week-end and stayed 2 weeks. Marina rates are very reasonable We experienced 3 marina employees helping us deploy additional fenders, on our boat, when high winds approached. They have a wealth of information in the "Boater's Package". The hotel offers the use of their pool and fitness center for a fee. The tiki bar offers local Jazz performers on Sunday afternoons on the outside deck. The town itself is filled with interesting places to eat and visit. They have a great farmers market each Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Mitchell's Hardwear store, circ. 1912 is a must see. I looked for 4 stainless nuts, fine thread, at 2 previous stops. Mitchell's had what we needed, plus some other cool stuff.
New Bern is a step back in time. Pepsi Cola was founded here. Downtown is dotted with beautiful churches going back to the seventeen hundreds. The Marshall Tucker band played at the waterfront park while we visited! Yes, we will return.

Great Stop, 2016-06-05
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (622)

It's 20 miles off the ICW but it's worth it. Reading all the negativity, we were tempted to stay somewhere else, but we didn't and we're glad. The staff is friendly and helpfull, the facilities are in good shape and of course the town is a great place to visit.

reply on AC for Cunningham bridge times, not marina office, 2016-04-29
Captain: , cruising (621)

We asked the marina office for morning bridge times. The staff showed us a card on their counter that states openings are at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 am every morning. Luckily, we decided to be ready for 6:30 opening and went through at 6:25. Cunningham Bridge informed us that the bridge is closed 6:30 to 8:30 except there is a 7:30 bridge if you call ahead (same info as AC has on bridge icon. It takes 7 mnutes to open the bridge so it would be a good idea to call at least 10 minutes ahead and be ready to go through 7:30. Only thing we noticed with new owner is they have cut all ties with hotel. Still a great location, floating docks, $1.25 a foot daily rate, and free pump out if you go to pump out station before you take your slip. We miss dockhand Tim, he was friendly, knowledgable, and was alsways eager to help.

New Bern Grand Marina Response, 2016-04-29
Captain: , New Bern (51)

My name is Millissa True and I am the Marketing Director for Marina Ventures LLC, the parent company of New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club. I would like to respond to some of the comments that have been posted here recently regarding our facility.

It is true that the marina and the hotel are separately owned and separately managed. However, the marina does have agreements with the hotel, and our guests are eligible to obtain passes to use both the pool and gym facilities at the hotel.

Regarding charges for utilities, we do apply a calculation adjustment to our dock meter readings in order to get them to match the municipal meters. Other marinas simply charge more per kWh in order to make up this difference. We feel that it is more transparent to leave the kWh charges unaltered, and to adjust the meter readings, than vice-versa. In any event, the marina makes no profit on utility charges. We have scores of long-term tenants who agree that our utility rates are reasonable.

We apologize for any misunderstandings regarding opening times for the Cunningham bridge. The morning restrictions posted in our office do indicate 0630, 0730, and 0830. Put another way, there are no openings between 0630 and 0830 except for 0730, if it is requested. The same goes for the evening restrictions from 1600 to 1800; there is an opening at 1700 if it is requested.
Our Boaters Lounge has been completely remodeled since the last reviewer critiqued it and we've been busy making a number of improvements. That's just the beginning of the improvements here under the new management. In the past year, the marina has been completely re-wired for digital CATV, which also enables any tenant to have hard-wired internet service in their slip, if they opt for it. We have installed new gates, and are continuing with new and improved gate locks. We have installed a state-of-the-art Cisco Meraki WiFi system, remodeled our bathrooms, remodeled and doubled our laundry facility capacity, and have provided new meeting space for our tenants. The marina now has in-slip pump-out capabilities, a new website with multiple HD webcams, and a variety of other improvements too numerous to list.

Come see for yourself, and enjoy the countless attractions of downtown New Bern, just steps away from the marina. We'd love to have you!

Improper billing procedures, 2016-04-06
Captain: , New Bern, NC (30)

Not a bad marina. Best thing about it is its close location to downtown Bars and Resturants. Be warn though, if you plan to be here long term they will hide charges for Electricity. Marina claims to charge .13 cent per KW but when you get your bill the meter reading will be multiplied by a factor of 1.4, effectivly a 40% increase then what they tell you. Unless you can see the exact meter reading (They do not supply them on you invoice) you have no way to indentify this increace. Ask to see your meter readings for the month and you can see where the increaced charges by 40%. Very underhanded.

Great place, 2015-11-26
Captain: , Fells Point, MD (98)

Nice marina. We stayed a month. Very pretty, smallish town in a scenic setting. Great restaurants within walking distance. Good group of live aboards here. Staff is friendly. Good cable package. Good monthly rate. I'd give it 5 stars except wifi sucks. That was the only drawback for us.

Not so Excellent anymore, 2015-07-21
Captain: , League City, TX (172)

Great location. Good prices for dockage.
Unfortunately, the marina was sold to a group out of California in April and they no longer have much in the way of amenities. No pool or gym access, the 'Captain's Lounge' is a small (12' x 12'), musty room with old books, VHS tapes, an ancient TV and old furniture. No one goes there because it's so depressing. The wifi is weak and sporadic at best and the F-G dock security panel hasn't worked in months. The outer 'G' dock is in poor shape and is incredibly wobbly in any kind of a chop. Sadly, there's no sense of community and no get togethers for the boaters. On the plus side, it's downtown and the New Bern area is lovely. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance.

New Ownership, 2015-04-09
Captain: , Cambridge, MD (170)

NB Grand Marina has recently changed ownership. the new owners have great plans to upgrade the marina. They have contracted to upgrade the WIFI, and TV already and are having a grand opening on 4/17 and 4/18/2015. Their great staff will still be around to continue their fine service. Looking forward to all the positive changes.

Live Aboard, 2014-11-15
Captain: , Oriental, NC (20)

Great Marina, floating docks, protected, downtown one block from marina. Great staff. Lived ther for a year, headed back in May. GREAT place. GREAT staff. GREAT location.

Good and getting better, 2014-11-12
Captain: , Las Vegas (282)

We spent 6 months here in 2014 and love it. Nancy and her entire crew do their best to make your stay great. Docks are in good shape and are monitored for maintenance issues always. Wifi was good for us but I understand we were in a sweet spot. Cable was ok but most channels had a good bit of snow. Rest rooms and showers are maintained by the hotel and are always clean. Only one block to downtown and historic New Bern with plenty of restaurants and a unique hardware store, Mitchells.
We understand that new owners take over before the first of the year and have a list of improvements they want to make. We hope that it doesn't mean higher prices as they are currently competitive but on the upper edge. We will be back.

great facilty, 2014-11-12
Captain: , new bern, NC (110)

This is our summer home. Well run & clean marina. Great staff & docks. Downtown easy walk with great resturants & other shopping. Should be a must stop on cruisers list.

Living aboard, 2014-08-29
Captain: , Oriental,NC (367)

I have been living aboard here for a few months and it has been very enjoyable. Good rates, and within walking distance to all of downtown New Bern. I have a bicycle and it's extremely easy to get around. The hotel that is "attached" to the marina is not affiliated in any way, but they give a 10% discount at Cristoph's, the hotel restaurant/bar to marina folks, and there is also an outdoor bar/deck with a pool. The facilities at the marina (shower, bathrooms) are always clean and comfortable. Very easy to get in and out. Dockmasters are extremely helpful and nice.

Very Good Stay, 2014-07-07
Captain: , San Diego, Ca (40)

New Bern Grand Marina has the best location in the area, with in an easy walk to the heart of New Bern and its many shops and restaurants. Nancy and her staff do a great job managing the property. Just ask for her best rate available as we stayed a month and got one of the better slip available rates on the east coast. The restrooms and showers are part of the adjoining Hilton Doubletree complex and were top notch. The floating docks could use a bit of refreshing but they were fine.
M/V Happy

Great stay in New Bern, 2014-07-03
Captain: , Fort Worth, TX (90)

We stayed one month at New Bern Grand Marina during May and June 2014. We couldn't have asked for better service. The staff was very responsive to any needs we had. The docks were in good repair and the marina was very well kept and attractive. We left our boat unattended for a week and felt perfectly safe doing so. The city of New Bern is just off the docks and is a wonderful place to explore especially for history buffs. The town itself is very clean and manicured with many well maintained historical homes.

great marina!, 2014-04-28
Captain: , Newark DE (110)

We stayed here for three nights. Family visited and stayed at the hotel. We found this marina to be nothing less than perfect. The laundry, bathrooms, and showers were all very, very clean. It was a little bit of a walk from B dock, but we didn't mind. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. They even have a free pump out. When we left, they were working on the Cunningham Bridge and we had to wait an hour for an opening. The dockhand came down to the T head and helped us tie back up for the wait. We would definitely return. Not to mention the Boat US discount was a nice plus. The only negative we can think of is there is only one washer and one dryer.

Great Hospitality and Knowledge, 2013-11-01
Captain: , Amherst NH (10)

We moved from NH, where sailing was only in season for 4 months, to NC in July of 2012 and loving the full season. With the our move, we brought our Irwin 31 sailboat Aboutime from Newburyport MA by truck. Nancy was extremely beneficial/helpful and accommodating with us and with Duck Creek. The staff has been courteous, professional, and has assisted in many ways. The marina staff always greets my family and gives us updates on our boat or happenings that we should be aware of. They were also proactive with looking at pedestals and connections to make sure they were fine and problem free. The Double Tree Hyatt hotel staff is awesome and we often have friends stay when they visit. Overall we extremely happy with the Marina, the Hotel, especially the bands and DJ that play during the summer, and the town of New Bern. People everywhere have great hospitality and all restaurants we have frequented are AWESOME. We are even looking for a house here.

Well Worth a Visit, 2013-10-31
Captain: , New Bern (30)

The New Bern Grand, a detour up the Neuse River from the ICW, should be on any cruiser%u2019s must stop list for a number of reasons. One of the most compelling is that it is just a one block walk to scenic downtown New Bern. This small city (pop. 28,000) founded in 1710 is the second oldest city in the state. Having survived both the Revolutionary and Civil wars intact it boasts more than 200 historical houses. The downtown also features excellent local restaurants and an interesting collection of shops with nary a national chain store among them. That includes he wonderful Mitchell%u2019s Hardware store, founded in 1898, where you can still buy a single screw!
The Marina itself has a lot going for it. It is clean, well-protected, with 50-amp power. It is also adjacent to the Double Tree Hotel which includes a good restaurant and bar as well as a pool and outside deck with food service and a bar. During the season there are live music weekends on the deck.
While the hotel and the marina were once under one management, the properties have been split and the marina which filed for bankruptcy is owned by a bank. I have been docked here for the past two months in my 42 Grand Banks. I have heard claims that the hotel personnel are hostile to boat owners. My own experience has been the opposite. I have used the pool and restaurant facilities on numerous occasions and identified myself as a boatowner. I received nothing but friendly service. Being able to take a dip in the pool after a hot afternoon sanding brightwork was a wonderful feature of this marina. The shower facilities for boat owners are spotless.
Dockmaster Nancy does an excellent job of watching over the facility and keeps boat owners informed of local doings as well as cautions with regular emails. For example, a pedestal short thanks to a badly maintained shorepower cord, prompted several emails with pictures urging everyone to inspect their shorepower to make sure plugs are clean and cords are rigged correctly.
Considering the shore side attractions, the historical buildings and the quality of the docks, I would rank the New Bern Grand Marina right up there with my other most favorite location, New Port's Bannister Wharf

Great Location, but gone downhill since my last review, 2013-10-30
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (275)

Updated following Vaughn's review.

I don't think I am incorrect, if I could I would post pictures I took to illustrate. So here is a recent update. Was at the marina yesterday. (I am presenting at the Southern Cruisers Meeting at the Doubletree Hotel adjacent to the marina. ) Duck poop on docks, especially those where boaters don't supply a hose, boat power cables in the water, uncapped live splitters on the docks, one of the helpful and freindly dockhands has his power cable connector on the dock held together with duct tape.
Internet and cable TV does not work. And yes, Nancy and the dockhands are really friendly and do check your lines especially in storms and New Bern is a great place.
Bottom line is I sleep on my boat and I cannot recommend a marina which allows blatant unsafe practices .
So do visit New Bern, its a great place. Check out New Bern Grand Marina and BridgePointe marina directly accross the Trent River. Then kindly write an accurate review which fellow boaters can trust.

We have kept our boat here since November 2011. (See our previous review below). It was great when we arrived but has gone down hill through poor management and maintenance.

Although the location is convenient, I suggest that you carefully look around with your own and your boats safety in mind before choosing to stay at this marina.

After last weeks pedestal fire on B dock and the emails to the residents from the dock master Durl, it is clear that the marina staff have ignored and continue to ignore enforcing basic fire and electric safety procedures and don't inspect or maintain the marina's electrical infrastructure.

In my opinion another fire or an electrocution could easily happen. Fires at marinas are unfortunately common. Waking up to a fire in the middle of the night and getting you and your boat out of harms way is not easy, especially when you are surrounded by fiberglass vessels holding hundreds of gallons of fuel. Fuel can explode or burn floating on the water around you or your boat.

The dockhands and Nancy try to do a good job, but there is a despondant "just doing what they tell me todo", "I don't get paid to think" attitude. The dockmaster Durl is hardly around and from his emails to boaters its clear that he has no clue about running a marina.

The Capital Bank in Raleigh now owns the marina. It has been on the market for a long time. The marinas relationship with the town and Doubletree hotel is not good, the marina owns nothing but the docks, so not much chance for a new owner who will rectify the situation.
Basically the attitude is do the minimum and spend as little as possible even if it means derelict looking boats, dissatisfied untrained staff, cosmetic maintenance and duck poop on the docks.

Its a real pity, New Bern is a great place. We have moved to the newly re-opened BridgePointe Marina accross the Trent River.

I guess I'll get healthy walking accross the bridge.

This is my review from Nov 2011
After visiting this marina last January by land we decided to move our boat from RI. The warm weather and this great marina closed the deal.
We arrived at the Marina early November. It looked too good to be true but everything they promised was there.
Great Dockhands, live aboards who are friendly and knowledgeable. Met us at the slip and helped us in. They keep an eye on the boats and keep up with maintenance and cleaning the duck poop off the docks.
Modern floating docks with very high pilings and long side docks with a separating post between docks. Docks very well engineered with roller fitiings around poles. They survived Irene with minimal damage.
Two pump out docks with dockhand help included for free.
Docks are wide and easy to get into. Very well protected.
Use of Hilton Hotel facilities, bathrooms, free Starbucks Coffee in the mornings, free newspaper. Use of their lobby, even allow well mannered dogs in lobby. Great deck with music spring and summer which probably will be annoying if you are close to the deck.
We are on A dock, a bit of a walk but quiet.
Boaters bathrooms look redone, there is a bin with freshly laundered bath mats and another bin for the used mats. Hot water takes a few minutes to run through the pipes so start the water before undressing.
There is a washer and dryer in the laundry area. While we were there they were fixing the sheetrock in the laundry.
There is a small boaters lounge with heat and AC.
Nancy was very welcoming. Marina is very well run. They have a special for the next 6 months $6.25/ft/mo plus $15/mo pedestal fee plus cost of electricity. City of New Bern has an indirect tax via 14c/kw.

Good WiFi and excellent AT&T reception
Pedestal has water, electricity lamp and cable.
Use of the pool and I think exercise room.
Marina is right in Down TownNew Bern.
Try Morgans for their $5.95 Barbeque sauce half chicken with pepper fries. Mitchells, a unique old fashioned hardware store. The Cow ice cream store has great ice cream and food.
Enterprise rental car had a $9.99/day weekend (Fri-Mon) special with a 100 miles a day included. They pick you up or take the shuttle.

Great cheap chinese food at King Buffet on MLK Blvd. You will need a car. Walmart has a small marine dept, also need transport to get there. Thai buffet very good but a little pricy.
Visit Tryon palace and take one of the town walking tours.
Check out the Trent River Coffee house.

The hotel shuttle is convenient. Although we did not use it, other boaters got rides to the airport and car rental.

The live aboards and other boaters are very friendly, as are the folks who use the promenard in front of the docks.
Dog friendly with doggy bag dispensers.
Although attached to a smart hotel, not at all snobby.

Have to try hard to find the cons.
Supermarket and grocery stores not within walking distance.
Music in the summer?
No courtesy cars or bikes, but there is a shuttle and the marina is right down town.
Could do with more laundry machines and a bigger lounge.
Train crosses the trent river twice a day.
Have to go through the drawbridge to get out. Opens on demand apart from early morning and late afternoon hours. For an early morning departure go early or request an opening at 730am.
No fuel. No pumpout at docks.

Marina is an Eye Sore, 2013-08-16
Captain: , Saint Augustine (170)

Was there last week and saw a number of derelict boats at this marina. Hard to believe people would buy a boat and then allow it to get in such deplorable condition. Even more concerning is why a marina would allow a boat in poor condition to remain in a slip unless all they care about if collecting a slip fee. The marina is an eye sore to such a beautiful river walk homes like the Robert Stewart Houset, and great eating places.

First Class, 2013-06-23
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (279)

I agree with all the other reviewers; this is a class act. Happy hour at the Hilton, casual dinner at Capt'n Ratty's, steaks at Morgan's... really neat place. Even the birthplace of Pepsi and then... those bears... everywhere... nice place.

Grreat Location to Visit New Bern, 2013-06-16
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

This is an upscale Marina that permits boaters to enjoy the Double Tree Hotel facilities when staying at the Marina. Dock Masters Buck and Mike seem everywhere at once doing whatever the boaters needs. Class act. would be 5 stars with some kind of transportation to a supermarket like Walmart or Harristeeter..

Nice place to live!, 2012-07-05
Captain: , Fort Myers, Fl. (70)

Very friendly staff in a friendly town. Everything is close by and not really a bad walk from B dock to the marina office. My brother and I took a boat from Long Island, New York to N.C. and liked this marina so much he decided to stay. Excellent rates and amenities.

The good and the bad, 2012-06-19
Captain: , Windy (170)

The good: the location is fantastic and the town is nice; the hotel facilities are great (baths and showers are clean, starbucks coffee in the morning, shuttle to airport) the floating docks are good and new. One of the dockhands (Tim) was fantastic. The not so good: the office manager was not terribly helpful or concerned about being helpful. One of the dockhads was incredibly rude. They don't answer their phone on weekends, the marina hours are spoty (and they don't seem to care) and they use handheld VHF with limited range. The outside dock is used for transients and can get pretty rough.

The prices are pretty good so this could easily be a 5 star marina. I don't know that anyone there cares to do what that takes.

Good place for a side trip, 2012-06-15
Captain: , Fort Pierce, Florida (369)

If you want a great side trip off the ICW, this is a great stop. Marina dock hand was there when we docked, slip was close to downtown restaurants and stores. Facilities are good, showers, laundry and exercise room, but are a decent walk from B dock.

Be careful......, 2012-05-10
Captain: , Hampton, VA (116)

If you are planning to come in here as a transient, be sure to confirm the size and location of the slip you will be assigned. We were shown to a slip on the A dock about 5 feet too short for our boat, and backing up to a railroad trestle. An active railroad trestle. And about a quarter mile from the marina office and other facilities.

While the dockhand was very competent and friendly........he managed to fit us into the small slip in a tough wind.....we had to idle around in the harbor for 25 minutes while he gave another boat a pump out, a shame to be so shorthanded in the middle of May.

Well kept secret., 2012-01-21

New Bern Grand Marina is a well run facility. Nancy and the dockhands are very attentive. The dockhands are very personable and you see them walking the docks on a regular basis. Floating docks are in very good condition as are the shower/laundry facilities.

The Hilton, soon to be DoubleTree by Hilton as of 02/12 treats you the same as a guest staying at the hotel. Free morning coffee, newspaper, use of the pool in season, business center with 2 computers, and the fitness center. Discounts in the restaurant. Free Shuttle around town and to the box grocery stores.

The local Farmer's Market is open year round and within a block of the marina, as is a fresh seafood market, several restaurants, banks, post office and the local liqour store. The Galley Market is a small grocer within walking distance.

We like it so much we decided to stay awhile.

We called the day before and the dockmaster told me that they would have room for me on the outside dock. I asked if it would be rough and he said no which was correct. Very helpful tying up and very close to town. You also have access to the Hilton facilities.

At least as good as others in area!, 2011-11-13

Don't be confused by the web site that seems to indicate this marina is defunct. There have been changes in ownership. Initial attempt to sell luxury condos with slips apparently didn't work out. No "club" or even Sheraton anymore despite outdated web detritus and even signs on docks. Now, Nov 2011, the marina is under seperate ownership from the hotel (which is now a Hilton) and the luxury condos (now Wells Fargo attempting to rent longer term.)

While the hotel did receive some IRENE damage, floating docks of marina went higher than ground level of hotel, and seem fine. Exercise room not quite fully restored, but infinitely better than most, with great equipment!

Marina Staff is quite wonderful, costs are very reasonable.

Incredibly convenient to historic (and even open) downtown, Tryon Palace, North Carolina History Museum...shuttle to groceries

Find the Stingray Seafood Store and Restaurant just a couple of blocks a way, simple, local, great food reasonably priced...see it on Yelp! 520 South Front Street New Bern, NC 28562 (252) 638-2280

What a great marina and little town. Nancy met us again with open arms and hugs. It%u2019s kind of like coming home, again.
The %u201CLive Aboard%u201D welcoming marina is a special little community of friendly people and pets. Two blocks to a town full of great shops and restaurants. Captain Ratty%u2019s Seafood and Steak house now has a wine bar, %u201CThe Grapes of Rat%u201D. A great place to winter over, and wait for the trip to Fernandina Beach in April.

Hurricane Hole: New Bern Grand Marina, 2011-08-29
Captain: , New Smyrna Beach, FL (10)

Hurricane Irene just passed through New Bern 48 hours ago. New Bern Grand Marina was very well prepared with their breakwater face dock and sheltered from the east / northeast by multi-story condominiums and a Hilton Hotel which hosts the marina. There was no significant boat damage at Grand Marina, but the marina directly across the Trent River lost at least one boat completely and suffered a completely disabled floating dock damaging a number of boats. New Bern Grand Marina, immediately adjacent to historic and friendly downtown New Bern, with hotel pool and amenities access is a great place to stay -- with or without the hurricane threat!

We have recently moved into the New Bern Grand and have found the place to be very nice. The dockhands work hard. The staff is understanding and the other of the boat owners there are warm and inviting. Quite a few liveaboards to keep an eye on things. People actually USE there boats here too. The minimalist facilities are pretty far away from us (but the Hilton lets us share theirs) and if I was on the other side of the marina, I'd be pretty pissed about the Hilton's bands blasting their PA right into the marina on weekend nights (at least the music isn't as bad as at NWCM). You'll get waked a little and being behind the bridge isn't the best, it's only a minor setback. Still, downtown New Bern with all its historic sites, activities, and great things to do and eat is amazing. All for only $6.50/ft. Really good anchorages nearby too. Check them out if you are in the area.

We are trying out the New Bern area for the summer. On arrival the harbor master cheerfully helped with pumpout in spite of the rain and assisted in docking. The pump out is all the way past 'A' dock next to train bridge. Folks on docks seem friendly, the Hilton pool and amenities will be nice. It is a very short walk to the quaint and historic downtown with several restaurants is convenient.

After reading the previous reviews and staying at the marina, I was a bit dissapointed. I was placed on "A" dock next to a derilict boat about 200 yards from the showers and restrooms reserved for boaters. The walls of the showers had mold and they were small with no good place to put your clothes. I solved the restroom problem by using the ones at the Hilton. There was one washer and one dryer in a room the size of a closet. The only good aspect was that you are two blocks from downtown.

The team at New Bern Grand Marina individualized us - making us feel like family. All of the amenities mentioned in other reviews make the stay easy. We wintered at New Bern Grand Marina, and, felt safe with the team's attention to detail and constant communication to their guests and liveaboards. The downtown is unmatched in variety of things to do, restaurants, and walking options. The Saturday morning market is pure pleasure!

The friendly, competent staff will make your stay both safe and enjoyable. Located across the street from the picturesque, historic downtown makes this a great spot to spend a few days or even a month or two. Captain Ratty's has excellent soft shell crabs.

Great place to stop. We have spent 3 months (hurricane season) here. Friendly and helpful marina staff. Dockmaster is a boater and understands needs. Very competitive rates. Hilton's facilities are available to people in marina including pool, shuttle bus, etc. Only incovenience is the 2 mile distance to a grocery store.

A very good marina with knowledgable staff.

On weekends, the hotel has live music on the deck adjoining the marina until 9 or 10 pm. Good for dancing, not so good for sleeping.

Very friendly town. Shuttle available 3 days a week from hotel ($10) to most any spot in town. Good hardware store and restaurants (The Chelsea was terriffic). Easy access. Worth a stop.

Really nice marina and very nice and responsive staff. The office has heads and laundry and you can use the heads in the lobby. Everything is really clean. The town is also very nice - good restaurants, but the shops were a little pricey. Just a great place to stop all around.

We stayed there for a week. It is incredibly convenient to a very nice downtown with many nice restaurants. The downside is the pump out doesn't work and won't for some time and the staff was invisible once we tipped them. On the up side, it has decent workout facilities.
