Reviews for Nettles Island Marina
It's a great community, 2017-04-01
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1522)

I didn't have any of the problems that the previous posted stated. They answered Ch16 and moved me to 14. The WIFI is strong. The dockmaster is the Owner and His Son so they are out of the office taking care of business on the docks. He met us at the dock and helped up get docked up. Sat down and talked to him for awhile and he was truly interested in who we were and what we were doing. Very dog friendly. Great restaurant. didn't use any other facilities while here. The rate was great with a BoatUS discount. We were at a face dock because of our size. This is a very interesting community of golf carts, mobile and fixed housing. We'll be back.

not very helpful, 2017-02-10
Captain: , Blue Mesa Co (100)

I guess it depends whats important to you. This is a nice location, nice restaurant, nice general store that makes terrific deli sandwitches. But they don't seem to care much about transients. They don't answer VHF 16, they don't even answer their phone half the time. Getting help at the dock is hit or miss depending on their other priorities. The facilities need some updating and the wifi was useless at the dock.

Such a cool unique marina. My kinda place!, 2017-02-07
Captain: , Washington DC (10)

We had a wonderful time, everything we wanted!!!

Great amenities, fast wifi, amazing restaurant called The Landing, well stocked grocery store/convenience store thats opened 7am-8pm. Walked to the beach bar Shuckers which had live music and ocean views. Big dog walk with friendly do dog owners. Docks were in good shade and the Skilled Dock master Jon was helpful, friendly and took time explainiing the history of the island. It was great!! such a cool place!! will be back!

only one * because I had to, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Flowery Branch (20)

the marina dock are in very poor condition, the security is a joke. the bath/shower are in need of rehab, and a good cleaning. The dock hands don't know what they are doing, if you can find them. Id drop a hook in the middle of the ICW, before I'd go there again

Focus on the restaurants, 2016-03-16
Captain: , Jensen Beach, FL (280)

There are two very good restaurants available. We are boaters in NJ but locals at Nettles and frequent them both regularly.
Sauders Landing at the marina. 772 800 2152
Shucker's a short walk over to the ocean. 772 229 1224
Both have lots of good choices - appetizers, salads, sandwiches, dinners.
Sauders is under new management and is better than before. It is slightly hgher priced than Shuckers, but there is a wide range of prices at both. Shuckers is larger, so reservations are less likely needed. Check the web sites for the complete menus.

Captain: , St. Augustine,FL (261)

Stayed for two days in early Nov. 2015. Throw back Marina with good restaurant, great general store and bakery. Bike ride to ocean beach access through Shuckers restaurant on the beach.Wind was from the SE 10-15 Knots but surprising very little fetch, expected more based on the previous comments.

A bad apple spoiled the bunch, 2014-05-15
Captain: , Southport, NC (716)

We arrived at Nettles last Sept to work locally. We were pleased with the location, and rustic layed back attitudes of the people there. Theres a really nice grocery store that has a deli and makes thier own bread every day. The Village Store will make you a killer sandwich and provide most everything you need. Its not a Walmart but he has basic stuff. Being this close to the beach we had a breeze 24/7. It's great to sit out on the deck and watch the sunset with the Dolphins playing. Sounds great doesnt it? It is great until the South wind starts blowing. I came home from work one day to find 3ft rollers coming into the marina shooting water through the planks. My wife couldnt even get off the boat. She had to remove the boarding ladder to prevent damage. I had to time the waves just right for me to jump on board. My trim tabs were coming out of the water and slamming back down. Just so you know we have a very heavy 43' Hatteras. It doesnt get tossed around unless the waves are very big. We had several thunder storms come through that produced 30-40mph gust maybe more. We took these wind and waves dead or to a slight angle. Its not fun !!!! We went to the Keys in Jan/Feb and came back to nettles thinking it would be OK since mostly North winds prevail that time of year. Wrong again. Also othr marinaas were booked up. Its the least expensive marina in the area so I cheaped out and took a chance. 8 of 10 days are great. Its just those two horrible days that spoil the visit. Last night we were hit by a massive storm coming off the ocean that rocked our world at 0100 am and lasted til 0200. My dock lines all need replacing from the wear from the last 6 months. I have had two lines wear through and break. Last night was the last straw. This morning we moved to a protected marina in Manatee pocket. The marina staff at nettles are nice and facilities are mostly clean. Its a quite place and the views are awesome. If you go there, make sure the wind will blow from any direction except SSE, S, SSW, SW. In the summer the storms usually come in from the South so be warned. Other than the unprotected Southerly wind direction its a great marina. Its just that draw back spoils the whole visit. Maybe one day they will build a break wall to give some protection to boats.

OK but Issues, 2014-03-21
Captain: , Key West, Florida (261)

We spent a few months here a while back... its convenient because its right off the ICW. Its also pretty inexpensive. The marina staff is responsive to cruisers needs and concerns but there is a distinct lack investment into the marina and there are several pilings that are loose and not trustwrothy.

The marina is completely open to the south regardless as to your ships position "inside" or "outside". During any south winds the huge fetch creates some serious rolling. This marina needs a break water. After one seriously rolly day the marina staff did not walk the docks when the general concensious amoungst the cruisers was that someone from the staff needed to do so. They usually do walk trhe docks and adjust lines so I think this was just an oversight.

The Tiki Hut is frankly disgusting - cigarette butts and the smell of smoke permeates. They leave the TV blasting all night. I've killed several cockroaches in the mens room. People smoke in the ladies room. There is one shower and one toilet in each of the rest rooms, so if you need to go badly or use the shower you either must use your own boat or wait in line.

The rest rooms need to be cleaned everyday but they are only cleaned once a week.

Its because of these issues that I am only rating a 3.

The marina is situated on a private island so the security is pretty good but I have heard that there are still thefts when the theives come into the marina from the water. We rented a car and were able to get a security pass to get through the manned security gates.

The little general store is well stocked with food and has some boats supplies, the people very friendly, and they provide propane on site. You can get mail/packages sent there and they keep it behind the counter. Its not cheap but unless you have access to a car or bike, you can't easily get supplies elsewhere. You can dinghy across the ICW to a beach bar with a dock and then walk about 1/2 mile to a Publix.

Pleased We Stopped, 2014-02-22
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (640)

We had a really nice experience staying at this little marina. The day we arrived (easy run from Indiantown) the wind was beginning to pick up, but docking was not a problem. We were offered our choice of a side tie or a slip and John met us at the dock and stayed until all lines were secure. The fixed docks were in good repair and it was easy to place our fenders appropriately to protect the boat. There is a nice restaurant at the marina called the Landings. We enjoyed the fish tacos and another patron said the Rueben was delicious. They draw a crowd so reservations might be a good idea. Nettles Island Village Grocer (772-229-1810) was a wonderful surprise. As well as stocking basic food items, they bake a variety of bread daily (White, 8 Grain, Rye, Italian, French, Raisin, plus Sub and Kaiser rolls). Call a day ahead and order just what you want. The grocer also has deli sandwiches and pizza. There is a nail and hair salon, and a lady%u2019s store called The Beach Front Boutique, which sells Fresh Produce brand clothing along with some other brands. The storeowner was very nice and gave me a 15% discount for staying in the marina, so be sure to let her know you are on your boat. It is a short walk (~10 minutes) to the beach. Showers and foot wash are available %u2013 there is even a separate area with a hose to wash your dog. The pool is oceanside, be sure and ask in the office for pool tags before you go, as you need them to enter the pool area. Just past the pool is Shuckers Restaurant. We ate there on a Thursday night and waited an hour for a table. Given the crowd we thought the service was pretty good and when our food came it was very good. The menu was eclectic, some seafood, some Italian, salads and burgers too.We had planned to stop for a night and stayed 4 nights. We will absolutely stop here if we are in the area again.

Came on a recommendation, stayed for 2 months, 2014-02-22
Captain: , Barnegat Light, NJ (210)

This marina was described to us by the owners of the Ships Chandlery on Nantucket as a "funky place". Indeed it is. It's a small, clean, friendly facility with deep water entry, a restaurant and shopping on site, walking distance to beach access, and it's a place where everybody knows your dog's name.

The post below sums up all of the amenities, but suffice it to say that we came here planning to stay "for a bit" and are now staying for 2 months. The docks are fixed but the tide is only a foot so once you are tied up you're all set. If you are expecting 24x7 concierge service look elsewhere, but be assured Ray or his son John will meet on arrival, personally secure you into your slip, and are always a phone call away.

If you're looking for a bit of relaxaion make sure not to pass this one by!

Great place, 2014-01-10

Ray and John will accommodate your needs. Great community.

Great Place to Stay, 2013-05-12
Captain: , San Antonio Texas (76)

Stayed here on May 2013. The place is extremely friendly. The bathrooms and showers are very well kept. The docks are a little old, but they are making improvements. There is a great restaurant at the marina as well as one a short walk across the highway toward the Ocean. The marina has its own private beach with a pool only a short walk across the highway. All in all a great place to stay

Absentee Ownership, 2013-03-12
Captain: , Huntington, NY (20)

This marina could be great. Wonderful small restaurant onsite, great little grocery store and friendly liveaborads. The only problem is that the owner is never around and has let the place go. The docks are in very bad shape, some boards are marked with an x and the locals warned me not to step on them. The staff is never around, and the owner can only be reached by phone. The second star is for location and ammenities, otherwise it would be 1 star.

Boat was here 6 weeks over holidays, 2013-01-11
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (280)

Great location. Secure and owner walks docks checking lines, especially during windy days.

Easy access off ICW. We were in an outside slip, very exposed to S SE winds.

Use a cell phone to contact owner/dock master. Dock master and son were on site to lend a hand while docking.

We were able to easily get propane tanks refilled.

Pump outs only available on Mondays.

On site store is well stocked. Fresh baked goods are an added bonus.

The Landings restaurant, while a little pricey, is quite nice.

There's also on site beauty parlor and dress store.

Easy walk to other restaurants and shopping.

No fuel.

Would definitely come again.

Awesome people and great fishing, 2012-07-28
Captain: , Sanford, FL (657)

We have been back here twice now, once for the entire month of March, and then again in July before heading westward. Great stop and great people. July 2012
We have friends who live on Nettles Is, who also have boats at the marina. We stopped to see them and to gather supplies and do some minor work. There are an abundance of very helpful and very knowledgeable captains there to help. We stayed a week, went fishing with our friends, partied down and got some very important work done.Mar 2012
We also met many boaters there who were very helpful with information on the ICW south of here.Jan 2012

Funky Nice, 2012-06-06
Captain: , Punta Gorda. FL (360)

Spent a night here recently on our way to Stuart and Okeechobee. Previous reviews had not prepared us for Nettles Island: apparently back in the day when you could just shovel some dirt into the river they created this square island and filled it with trailer homes, all parked diagonally. Most have been replaced by little houses, all built with crazy angles to fit the diagonal lots resulting in an amazing architectural cacaphony - not too pretty but sure interesting. The marina itself is fine with attached minigrocery/bakery/hardware store. The casual onsite restaurant still serves very good food. Friendly 'long term cruisers' with nice boats made us welcome. The beach is a short walk away for those who must.

GREAT STOP, 2012-03-22
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (343)

First time stopping here and sorry we did not stop before. Easy access off the ICW; staff and other boaters were very helpful and friendly. Resturant (The Landings) was one of the best we've been in at a marina (It's small so make a reservation). Grocery on-site is well stocked. Great place to stop !!!

A little funky, but fun!, 2012-01-08
Captain: , City Island New York (600)

We spent 2 days here getting our heating unit repaired by a great technician who was recommended by Ray, the owner. The work was well done, and quickly too. The current is a killer trying to back into your slip, be sure someone is on the dock to help you. Very friendly marina, dog walk accross the street, walk to ocean. The restaurant was good and tasty, the dress shop tempting and the general store very adequet. Two drawbacks: the fixed docks which I find hard to get on and off and the price per foot was listed as $1.75 with a 10% for Boat US, but in fact the $1.75 WAS the discounted price. We had a wind storm while here so we did not venture far, the boat was safe and protected. There are new showers and good laundry facilities, you can also get your propane filled up in the store. We enjoyed this marina as it had every thing a boated could need.

Excellent Marina with fammily atmosphere, 2011-12-04
Captain: , Harrison Twp, MI (350)

I was advised to come here by locals. What a gem!! Went there to have some work done on the boat; but not through the marina as it is not a work yard. A a local fabricator replaced our bow pulpit, and they were good too. We ended up staying for 9 days, mainly due to friendly atmosphere and nice neighbors! Friendly marina staff and dock neighbors made our stay here one to remember... and come back to. Father/son mgmt team have the full service and customer driven approach. The marina is inside a gated and secure adult community. Very nice general store with a little bit of everything. We did not try the restaurant, but it looked good and evryone seemed to like it. The general store has great pizza, and an order for a fresh baked loaf of your choice of bread can be made in the evening and picked up the next morning. Ladies boutique store and hairdresser on site were actually quite good. Awesome clean beach in walking distance. Bathrooms were clean, nice and sanitary, as were the laundry facilities. NO FUEL though. Weekly and monthly rates are attractive. Deep enough water for 7 foot draft. No doubt... I will be back, next time for a longer stay.!

Great Find, 2011-11-03
Captain: , Hampton, VA (40)

Driving north last spring and was planning on going a little further for an anchorage but decided on a whim to stop in here and dry out. Called on the cell and made a reservation, when it came time to turn right off the ICW the water got skinny in a hurry. It was low tide and saw 6 ft shortly after the turn and directly between the channel markers. Chickened out, backed up to the ICW and called them again. Dockmaster assured me I would make it so tried again. Same 6 ft but only for a short time then back to 10-12 ft all the way in. Great little marina, had a "family run" atmosphere, everyone very friendly and helpful. Prices were great. Little grocery store for basic provisions, even DVD's. Great restaurant on property, ate here one night, the next night walked the causeway off the island and found all sorts of other bar/grill type places many with live music. Would definately come back.

Keep Cruising, 2011-10-31
Captain: , Full Time Cruisers (2244)

Although this marina is close to the ICW, they are not transient friendly. I was told I could have my propane bottles filled there. What they forgot to tell me was that I would have to wait 2 hours until someone qualified was available to fill my bottles. Only after I made the sidetrip to the marina I was informed of this. The owner/dockmaster works from his cell phone and may not be at the marina when you call. I hope you have a better experience than I did. Good Luck.

Nice little spot, 2011-05-25
Captain: , Josephine Alabama (183)

Very relaxing stop. Dockmaster very helpful. Restaurant is very good and is open Tues-Sun. Fuel can be obtained by truck. If it is windy, especially out of the south/southeast, would be better to be on the inside. Consider this a down-to-earth local marina. It is not a resort, but was again, surprisingly a nice stop.

Heading North, 2011-05-08
Captain: , Knapps Narrows Md (450)

We stopped here for the weekend to meet up with friends before heading north with both boats. Our friends have kept their boat here all winter and had a good experience. They have a nice store with everything you could want including a fresh cherry danish for the admiral on Mother's day. Good restaurant, clean bathrooms and friendly and helpful staff. They are offering a 50% discount for weekend stays in a local add that you can mention.

Very friendly, 2011-05-04
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

We stayed one night - easy in and out although the marina itself is on Nettles Ilsand rather than where the marker is showing. Depth in was not a problem - showed min of 6 feet. Very helpful. Restaurant on site but we didn't try it. Nice selection at the small carryout.

Would definitely stay here again!

First marina visit, 2010-11-12
Captain: , Fosters Point, Random Island, Newfoundland (82)

The first time we vited a marina in FL was Nettles Island. The staff were very helpful and nice. There is a store with wine, beer, ice some food and a deli. Gas and Diesel.
Try to get a slip on the inside as the south is exposed and can get choppy.
