Reviews for Morningstar Marinas - Mayport
Not a cruiser's marina, 2017-05-16
Captain: , Brooklin, Maine (50)

Staff was friendly, even apologizing forthe lack of services. No laundry or showers and the heads close at six. Just expensive fuel and dock space with lots of wake action. If you have any reasonable alternative, take it.

Great stopover. Southern Belle, SSI, 2017-03-06
Captain: , St. Simons Island, GA (30)

Great access to inlet and ICW. Very helpful dock hands with docking in strong current. Professional and courteous dock master.

Awful place, 2016-12-19
Captain: , Dartmouth (80)

This is by far the worst marina we have ever stayed in, no showers, laundry and loos only open in office hours. The wash is terrible and the staff locked the gate at night without telling us they would do this or letting us know how to get out.
The staff are friendly but the marina just does not have the facilities to make a stay pleasant and the cost is high given all the above. Avoid if you have any other option.

This rating is for fuel service only, 2016-11-11
Captain: , Eastham, Mass (130)

Hailed channel 16 four times as we approched the fuel dock, no answer. Kept crawling closer and the dockhand saw us and walked down. When I asked if he heard us, he said "no, someone wasn't listening" or something like that, while he held his portable VHF.

Docks might be new, but one rubber protection strip was pulled out exposing screws, having us scramble for fenders.

They have two diesel hoses, but the smaller nozzle wouldn't fit through my standard Diesel cap. Holding it tight and running it very slow worked, but the "Very Bubbly Biesel" backed up often, shutting the pump down, needing a reset from the office.

My second tankfiller has a twistier neck and the diesel backed up right way. Gave up at the second try.

Failed to honor confirmed reservations, surly staff, 2016-10-29
Captain: , Seven Oaks, South Carolina (245)

Marina refused to honor reservations for our boat and three others, large 75 ' motor boat taken instead. Only friendly staff was one dock hand who assisted tie up. Others passed on dockside refused to acknowledge my friendly greeting.

Good staff but not well protected, 2016-05-16
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (40)

I stood here one night with my 27 feet sailboat, on our way out of Jacksonville heading to St Augustine. The staff was very helpful on our arrival, friendly and prompt. As many others reviews warn, the marina is exposed to the frequent and violent wake of big vessels going full speed in the St John's entrance. Our 6 fenders were struggling badly. Also, the marina has no showers, and the bathroom access is thru the shop, so they close it after working hours.

Great Staff but watch the wakes and current, 2015-12-18
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale, FL (146)

Earlier this year my son and I spent one night here while making our way south offshore and the five star staff couldn't have been more helpful. The current can be extreem and the wakes from both the big ships and the fishing boats coming and going to this marina and the nextdoor ramp make it a pretty rolly experience.
I would stay again since it's the closest if you traveling are offshore and the because of teh grear staff. but you need to be aware of the conditions. Also there is no showers or other facilities to speak of. The short wak to Singleton's Seafood Shack is worth it!

Dockhands are great but the wakes from the passing boats are terrible!, 2015-10-25
Captain: , Hampton, VA (150)

We were tied up on the outside wall at the fuel docks but it wouldnt have mattered if we were inside those floating docks or not. The wakes were terrible. No courtest from boaters on the St Johns at all (even some tugs waked us good). I am in an old 42' sportfish and I know how she can wake folks but we were getting waked hard by little center consoles running right up by the marina. It didnt stop until after dark and was right back the next morning. If it wasnt for the terrible traffic on the river it would be an ok marina.

Nice Convenient Docking, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Annapolis MD (330)

This is located perfectly for short stays just in from the inlet. Strong currents but newer floating docks and attentive dockhands. No showers or heads, but they have a courtesy car. Clean and friendl.y We will stay here again, and we don't typically go into marinas.

I like it!, 2015-03-03
Captain: , Stamford (20)

Came in late afternoon and the dock hands were very helpful and accomodating. Yes, it might be a little rolli but also very exciting in seeimng large cargo ships and local navy crafts go/fly by. There is a sea food resturaunt within a 2 min walk. Did not try (wife is a great cook) but will try next time.

ok quick stop, 2014-05-20
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (829)

If running the outside this is an ok quick stop. Expect to get rolled a little as it is exposed. Owners are trying very hard to be accommodating. They stayed late so we could fuel for an early morning departure. Singletons restaurant nearby is a must.

Basic stop over, 2014-03-18
Captain: , HOLLY RIDGE NC (120)

Marina is clean. Facilities are very limited. Fuel and dockage at thats pretty much it. Busy waterway. Staff was nice and helpfull. Good resturant next door.

Disappointing, 2013-03-25
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Knew it might get rough due to exposed location, but deck hands did a poor job of fending us off so a handrail on our swim took a heavy hit. No facilties to speak of, i.e., bathrooms inside office that is only accessible during business hours. No shower. High point was Singleton's Seafood Shack, a very short walk from the marina. Excellent seafood and lots of it.

Closest stop for diesel, 2012-12-19
Captain: , Newport, RI (230)

Had a brief stop for fuel here on my way to stuart. The dock is very exposed to the current and there weren't any thrills. Service was fast and the beer was cold.

Convenient but limited, 2012-11-28
Captain: , Galesville, MD (246)

A convenient stop for those proceeding on the outside, but the ferry and other traffic on the river make it bouncy. Lack of showers is a minus, but availability of courtesy car is a plus. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Getting Much Better, 2012-11-07
Captain: , Kemah, TX (622)

Just this past month, there was a change in the Director of Operations. Carol, the new DOO has begun sweeping changes in the appearance of marina and the services offered to boaters. With the assistance of Chris from Morningstar Golden Isles in St. Simons Island, Ga (5 star in our rating), this place will grow to at least a 4 star facility, hopefully by boating season, 2013.

Carol has the service staff deep cleaning all of the docks and public area. There are new plants around. She is a welcome sight to the place, and she is whipping the staff into helpful, happy people.

Although the marina is targeted toward dry dock storage and the recreational fishing community, their docks are large enough to take several 40+ foot sailboats and motor vessels at a time or larger vessels if no one else is on the dock.

They are walking distance from two fabulous seafood restaurants and have a decent supply store and outboard engine repair facility on the property.

Don't bypass this place just because of the current ratings. Support those who support Active Captain, and we will see their service and appearance mature and grow quickly.

Nice staff but this is a working river., 2011-11-16
Captain: , Stuart,FL Wilmington,NC (53)

Staff was great marina should only be used in a pinch. Ferry starts early and blows the horn loud and long at every docking. Lots of boat traffic and large wake all the time. We used the car and had a great dinner at Ragtime about 10 min away.

Morningstar Marina Mayport Jacksonville, 2011-03-22
Captain: , Bay City, MI (730)

Docks are new. We were told there were bathrooms, but having a bathroom with no shower in the office that closes at 5PM doesn't count in my book. They put us on the outside fuel dock and just about ripped out the boat cleat and hawse pipe due to the extreme current. Rocky ride next to the ferry. Promised us a loaner car, but "the runner is out and won't be back for 2 hours and then we close." People on the dock said the guy who uses the car is off today and is probably fishing. Need you know more? Cost was $1.95 per foot.

Under Repair, 2009-01-04
Captain: , Gulfport Small Craft Harbor, MS (168)

Their docks are definitely in need of repair. Stayed here in Jul 07 and they have gone down significantly in quality...but I believe they are being renovated. Fuel dock still works.
