Reviews for Morningstar Marinas - Bahia Bleu Marina
Nice Marina....but..., 2017-03-28
Captain: , Milwaukee, Wi. (798)

Nice smaller marina but not much to do here in Thunderbolt. Just Tubbies bar/restaurant along with Tortuga's restaurant (closed mon and tues) but not much else! They do have a very nice marine store bigger than many West Marines...and they carry DeWalt power tools also... we'll hang out here for one evening then cruise on outta here. Free washer and free dryer, yes, only one of each. Nice bathrooms and showers!

Nice stop in a quiet town, 2017-03-25
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1293)

We stayed 1 night 3/19 and enjoyed our stay. Large, comfortable club room, very nice restrooms, didn't use free laundry, helpful staff. No loaner car or bikes. This is a busy place with dry stack storage on site. Next door is a very nice city park; good place to walk dog. We walked about a block for a very good shrimp dinner at Tubby's Tank House.

improvements, 2016-05-31
Captain: , mobile, al (171)

my last visit was 10 years ago. Many improvements since then. There is now a car available for use and 24 hr security. Friendly and helpfull people.

access refused no standby on 16/68, 2015-07-26
Captain: , Bruxelles-Belgium (91)

having no answer on 16 either 68, I approach fuel pontoon. 72 was their call channel. But immediately they added there was no dockage possible for my 41' sailboat ! pontoon empty 60% ! after good welcome in Golden Isles marina I hopped the same reception. Not a problem sailboat there was another along reception pontoon ! Better to phone before to go there ! there is no watch on announced VOF channels

Nice docks, clean restrooms, 2015-05-09
Captain: , Venice (650)

Right off the ICW just south of the bridge. Godd floating docks, helpful staff. Free washer and dryer. Bi-Lo grocery store (and Walgreens/CVS) about a mile up the main drag. No bike path but you can manage on the sidewalks.

Good location to stop at, 2015-04-25
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

it's right on the ICW. We were here for one night. Staff is good, floating docks in great shape.

It's a 5 mile ride to downtown Savanna, so we were able to get in and see most of the town.

There is a place to eat about 5 blocks away if you want to stay close on the boat.

Clean and well maintained , 2015-03-22
Captain: , Cape Cod, MA (179)

Convenient stop on way north. Well maintained docks and friendly, helpful staff. Showers and head are clean and look good but lack some functionality. No hot water in one shower and one sink - very odd. There's no separation between the shower and dressing area so the entire tile floor is wet after showering. A perforated rubber mat would solve the problem. There's a pretty active rack storage business which is interesting to watch (for a while). All electrical service is 50 A. If you don't have a splitter or adapter they'll loan you one.

If you eat at Tubby's, don't order a mixed drink. You'll be disappointed. Beer and wine are fine and they have a good selection of each. Wait staff is friendly. Food was pretty good but not great.

Good Marina, 2015-03-05
Captain: , Hampton, VA (271)

Good place for the night before heading out Wassaw Inlet. Good food within walking distance and a good chandelry even closer. Picked up a foulweather jacket at a good price.

Friendly spot to stop at, 2015-01-21
Captain: , Saint Michaels (320)

We stayed here 11/15/2014. A friendly marina with nice staff. A marine store is within walking distance as is Tubby's Restaurant.
Facilities were clean and well done.

Bahia Bleu Stop, 2014-11-27
Captain: , isle of palms,sc (131)

Nice folks , everyone went out of their way to be helpful. docking, directions for dinner, fueling, etc--really nice and a reasonable price for all. The best part was the local hardware store(river supply) across the street. Like a West Marine but with all high quality stuff--this store supplies the boatyards at Thunderbolt-just what you would expect. the owner gave us a personal tour of the store. Note: they stock a cable cleaning solution that actually works. He told us to use lots of cleaning cloths to avoid redeposition so we took his advice. The used to be yellow cables that had become black came back to life as yellow cables. Almost like new. There is also a great bar/restaurant across the street from the marina(Tortugas) a block to the left of river supply with a big beer list and tasty seafood. All resonably priced. Who would have thought that the small town of Thunderbolt would be such an enjoyable stop. Try it. My guess is the other marinas there are just as nice. We will stop at Bahia Bleu again.

Good folks, helped me out in a pinch, 2014-11-12
Captain: , Buzzards Bay, MA (316)

Stopped by here to go to Tortuga's across the street for dinner and when I returned to my boat it would not start, no matter what I tried. Ron let me keep the boat on the dock until I was able to get back with the trailer and only charged me for the haul out. Nice clean marina, nice restrooms and showers and a fairly decent sized marine store. The big plus, especially in sand gnat season is a huge screened in porch where folks can hang out and socialize. They also offer rack storage which was my saving grace as all the equipment was there to snatch my finicky Whaler out of the water and plop it on the trailer.

Very friendly and helpful, 2014-11-03
Captain: , Solomons, MD (195)

We stopped here instead of Tidewater and glad we did. Current was a little bit but they helped pull us in smoothly and cleanly. Very helpful and professional dock assistance. Friendly, good guy. We were able to get fuel, pump out and refresh our water. Will note this nice marina for ther future!

Right on ICW in no wake zone, 2014-06-01
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (960)

Average marina. Major tides so there is hiking up the ramp to shore. Remodeled bath/showers with nice screen porch with tv. Short walk to 2 restaurants.

Decent place, 2014-01-22
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

Good help tying up. They gave me a break on the dock fees for being BoatUS. A bit priecy for the area. Showers and laundry clean. Stayed one night.

Nice marina in a nice town, 2013-12-28
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

Pulled in here for a sail repair. Marina is close to town, nice laundry and bath house. Decent staff. No discounts, though. A bit pricey for being in an off-the-beaten path town.

Great place to stop, 2013-11-30
Captain: , Sanford, Fl. (887)

We spent a month here while we were getting some work done on the boat. The docks are floating concrete with nice wide fairways. The staff are all very professional. It is about a 25 minute walk to a new Bi-Lo Grocery (where the Piggly Wiggly used to be). It is a nice area for walking with 2 good places to eat very close. One caution: If you have mail or packages coming here be sure to include: In Care of Morning Star Marina in the address. The marina shares their address with the condo's next door. It was a good stop and we will be back.

Great stopping point, 2013-11-29
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (1190)

We were only going to stay for a couple of days but the weather changed our plans and we stayed for 6. They gave us the weekly rate without asking which saved us money. Very capable and friendly staff. The dockhands know their stuff and are quick to get you tied up even when dealing with the swift currents that run past the docks. The marina sits on the ICW so eay in and out. Only one washer/dryer but it's free and they're efficient so laundry gets done fairly quick. There's a BiLo grocery store a little over a mile away. Downtown Savannah is apx 15-20mins by taxi that will run you about $17. Savannah is well worth the cost. If you go check into the historic trolley rides. Not cheap but very informative. The grounds and facilities are well kept. There's a lot of small boats coming and going on weekends but the guys move them off the dock fast plus it dies off late in the day. Overall a nice place to stay.

Good stop to visit Savannah from, 2013-11-21
Captain: , Pasadena,Maryland (510)

Facility is a boatel, with some slips available. Boatel operation stops at 5:00 PM- very quiet after that. Bathroom/showers good. Location right on ICW- traffic not a problem. Grocery store and shoppong center about one mile away- easy bike ride. Taxi cab to Savannah. Good resturant (Tubby's) withing walking distance.

Convenient, clean, friendly, 2013-11-19
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (268)

Stayed here November 2013 and couldn't be happier. Clean and friendly place. Right on the ICW easy stop and go.

great place to stay to see Savannah, 2013-08-20
Captain: , Abilene, TX (210)

Second time there by choice, good bath & laundry, friendly and helpful staff, need rent car for Savannah but only 10 min away, no pool but still a great place

Nice clean marina with great staff, 2013-07-17
Captain: , Englewood, Fl (351)

Stayed here one night heading north on July 16, 2013. The dock boys were excellent, free laundry, and the food at Tubby's was excellent.

Great Stay, 2013-04-08
Captain: , Lake Barkley, KY (20)

Just spent 5 nights in a slip at Morningstar and had a good visit. First 3 days there it rained, but that wasn't anyones fault. Still enjoyed touring the town. Haiving the marine supply store across the steet from Morningstar was a great perk. Had the best bacon cheeseburger so far on the Loop at Tubby's. Rory made the stay enjoyable and comfortable.

Great service, 2013-03-05
Captain: , Hamilton (348)

Here for Sept/Oct 2012. Marina berth was very tight for our catamaran (22' beam), and it would have been v difficult for us to get out and in often. Service and help from all the staff was excellent. Location is great with excellent facilities at the marina and nearby.

Marina has a large dry stack operation, so you need to be aware the forklift will be operating all day which creates some noise.

It's a bit of a hike into downtown Savannah.

Great little Marina, 2013-02-08
Captain: , Ft. Worth (10)

We have been bringing our 85', 7' draft ketch here for last 3 years. The staff is very helpful and the facilities are well maintained. My only bug-a-boo is that the wifi access out at the fuel dock is abysmal. If I sit on marina patio, access is great, but who wants to have to do that all the time? Good thing I have my own net but it is limited.
The fuel prices here are high compared to other places along coast, but competitive to local area.
Otherwise, Rory, Ron, Justin and everybody else, make this a nice spot to park and go see Savannah.

Boat supply store a short walk!, 2013-01-07
Captain: , Charleston (162)

Stayed one week in this Marina to work on installing equipment. Big help that River Supply is a very short walk and well stocked. Also good restaurant close by - Tubby's

Marina staff was very helpful and available. Free washer and dryer. A screened porch with wide screen TV. Very Good!

Great stop and good facilities, 2012-11-21
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (391)

They remodeled their showers over the summer and they're great. For a different dinner, go to Teeples Seafood on the road to the hi-rise bridge, about 3 blocks east of the bridge. For $9.00 get a low country boil carryout to take to your boat. Half pound each of shrimp, sausage, and potatoes and 2 cobettes of corn in the lowcountry broth. Heat up on your boat with cornbread - yum yum. Also, join the Morningstar Marina club(free) for discounts at their marinas.

Great location, nice people, 2012-11-13
Captain: , Oriental (321)

Very nice and accomodating. They have a wonderful common room with comfortable sofas and a tv, a convenience store, free wifi, nice bathrooms. They even have recycling, which is so unusual and a big plus. The downside was they didn't have a 30 amp spot for us. They usually have loaner converters, but had already lent them out, so we had to buy one up the road. There is a marina store 1 block away and prices are good. The other downside was that our spot was extremely affected by the passing boats. Great restaurants within blocks.

we will be back!, 2012-10-24
Captain: , Pawleys Island (114)

Wow, what great accomodation! Two guys met us at the dock; at the ready to assist! Docks are like new...great updated showers and rest rooms and a very cool screened lanai with white wicker for relaxing! Dead calm at night and very quiet. The sun rise was BEAUTIFUL! Sorry we didn't stay longer. Left early and still had plenty of help. We will definitely be back. Took our dog Miss Molly for a few good walks but didn't have any insect problems at all.

Good place, but, 2012-10-21
Captain: , Shinnecock Bay, NY (610)

Nice marina, well situated for Savannah, quiet and most of the required amenities. The one glaring exception is they do not have a pump out station. They say they are getting one installed next week, and I'll be here then to see if it is done. Other than that the only complaint is the no-see 'ums. Pretty strong tidal current here and a large swing, but there is over 12' at low tide.

Morningstar Marina, 2012-06-06
Captain: , Woodstock, Georgia (409)

While heading south on the ICW, we decided to stop at Tubby's for lunch, so we called the marina on CH 16 and got no answer. After 3 attempts over a 15 minute period, I gave up and called their office phone. I did get someone to answer, but you would have thought I was bothering them, by the way they acted. We did get permission to dock, but were told there would be no one to catch dock lines. While that is not a big problem for me, it is rather annoying. While I would stop there again (because I like Tubby's), don't expect good customer service from this marina.

A Huge and Surprising Disappointment, 2012-05-11
Captain: , Marion, MA (51)

Based on our fabulous experience during a two day stay at Morningstar Marina %u2018Golden Isles%u2019 in St Simons Island on our return trip north to MA, we booked a berth at Morningstar Marina %u2018Bahia Bleu Marina%u2019 in Thunderbolt with the intent of visiting Savannah. From the moment of coming alongside to our departure the following day, everything was a disappointment. Dock staff had little experience of any worth or docking help; only 50 amp power service was provided, no adaptors available; %u201Cwould you like to purchase and adaptor?%u201D No idea of transport services into Savannah; only recommendation was %u2018get a taxi%u2019; never heard of the complimentary regional bus service. Showers were not available due to remodeling; (perhaps a good thing in the long run). Laundry was complimentary but the machine, particularly the dryer was only working halfheartedly. A promised BBQ never materialized. Despite the fact that we were moved to the fuel dock to access 30 amp service, trying to get someone on the morning of departure to pump diesel proved too difficult and we left.

It is hard to understand how two associated marinas could be so dramatically different. It is apparent that %u2018Bahia Bleu Marina%u2019, despite the lofty name, is only capable of servicing the needs of dry storage plastic fizz boats.

Morningstar Maina, 2012-05-10
Captain: , Blaine, WA (70)

Clean, good floating docks. Current minimal. Helpful staff. Close to Savannah. Diesel Fuel @ $4.99 currently.

Well kept marina, 2011-12-20
Captain: , Red Lion, DE (712)

2011-12-18 Staying here for nine days and having diesels serviced. Excellent docks and the entire marina is as clean as can be. There are two reataurants within two blocks. Nine out of ten boaters passing on the river put out no disturbing wake - then of course there's always the tenth one! The marina is very quiet at night - can't hear the traffic on the bridge which is aout 200 yds to the north.

Ask for the membership card and get 10% off dockage, store, etc., 2011-05-24
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

clean, nice, no courtesy car, free laundry. With card $1.80 a foot in 2011

Bahia Bleu Marina access to Savanah, 2010-11-19
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Great place to stage your trip into Savanah. Appears to be the best located marina in Thunderbolt for taking the public bus into the historic downtown Savanah area.
Directions are: right out of marina, walk a block( to road over the high rise bridge), turn left and go to 2nd light, (Whatley Ave), and find the green CAT sign on NORTH side of Victory Rd. About a 15-20 minute walk. Take the #24 bus to downtown. The drivers are generally very friendly and will tell you when to get off for the historic district. Just $0.75 each way for seniors. Can call bus at 912-233-5767 or on web at to get scheduled times of bus.
BTW, the marina gave a lower rate than published w/o having to ask, are friendly, place is clean.

Great one night stop, 2010-11-18
Captain: , Bonita Springs, FL (413)

The marina is clean and has nice floating docks. Just 1/2 bl;ock from a great ships store, RIver supply. They are also 3/4 block from Tubby's Tank House, a great seafood place with a few choices of the fresh catch. Be sure to have the crab stew, it's really a thick soup.

Great Fuel Prices 10-15-10, 2010-10-16
Captain: , Houston, Texas (164)

As of today, the price of Diesel is $3.15 and the discount with your Morningstar Marinas (Free Card) gives you an additional percentage off. Great staff!

Place to lay over, 2009-05-31
Captain: , clear lake texas (435)

Docks are floating and in good shape face dock along AICW with a south current on rising tide. With the 6 foot tides we had pleanty of water. Needed A/C work and they called Donnaly Yacht Service which came out the next day and did a good job. Took cab to Savannah $15 to $20.
