Reviews for Morehead City Yacht Basin
Nice Stay, Good Restaurants, 2016-12-04
Captain: , Ely, MN (55)

Stayed 3 nights last week in November. Great spot and facility with great staff. Local restaurants walking distance and outstanding. Tight Line Restaurant has great beer selection.

great stop, 2016-12-03
Captain: , Somers Point, NJ (170)

We stopped in on ur way south and all went well. Called ahead, they were ready for us and lots of help docking. Fuel at the slip was a nice touch too. Nice town to walk around in with great restaurants.

Cannot agree with previous reviews., 2016-12-01
Captain: , Ottawa (113)

We chose to stay here because the 30 knot wind from South seemed a little much for the docks on the other side. With the BoatUS discount, it was 0,30$ more a foot then the city Marina. First experience: dock master instructed me to take a wide turn while coming in and staying inside the room ed ball... I did. I was at least 10 ft from the ball and my 5ft draft boat ran aground. Secondly, I realized that the dock fees do not include power. Thirdly, we (myself, and my 2 other crewmates) never felt the welcoming warmth mentioned in the other comments. One of my crewmates was ask very rudely to vacate the crew lounge because the office was closing. Quite a different experience than the previous - read great - Marina we stayed (Whitaker Point Marina in Oriental). Other then that, place is clean, docks are great, Internet is spotty on the docks.

Management response:
We are sorry that your experience at our marina did not meet our high standards. We did want to clarify a few things:

A. We have noticed since Hurricane Matthew a slight shoaling in the channel of our turning basin. This was a dead low of a new moon so with the unusually low tide, 10 feet from the marker was not enough water. The red ball does mark the outer edge of the channel like all ICW markers so the water in the middle of the channel to our docks has the most depth.
B. We have just invested in a new modern and powerful wifi antenna system. We have 5 5GHZ antennas as well as 2 2.4GHZ antennas for older devices. It is a large marina with 800 feet of docks to cover but the 7 antennas should provide enough options for anyone in the marina.
C. The lounge is open to all boaters during business hours. It is closed and locked when the last dockmaster leaves for the day usually between 5 and 6 pm.

Thank you for staying with us. We are glad that you found the marina clean and the docks great. Please consider giving us a second chance and look in your private message inbox for our invitation for your next stay. Safe travel and fair winds.

Outstanding Marina, 2016-11-23
Captain: , Little River, SC (208)

Stayed 10-13-16 and 10-14-16. You will not find a better dock crew on the east coast. This is one of our favorite marinas and is a must stop for us. Eat at Red Fish restaurant. OUTSTANDING!

Captain: , Hampton, VA (361)

First time staying here after friends kept telling us how nice the marina is. It really is....excellent communication coming..,,prompt friendly dock hands and a very well kept clean marina. Fuel at the floating slip, water and pump out also if needed. Walking distance to restaurants and a very well stocked marine hardware store "Ace Marine". Very nice experience.

Love it here, 2016-11-06
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1101)

We stop here for good protection, proximity of restaurants, GREAT dock hands, clean facility, easy off and back on ICW, and the nice boaters who use this marina.

Gem on the Crystal Coast!, 2016-11-05
Captain: , Cincinnati, OH (100)

We spent this summer here and we can only echo what has already been stated. Mike Pollard and his team are top notch. We were back home in Ohio when Hermaine and Julia came through; I called Mike and he offered to tie additional dock lines and fenders to our boat for added protection. Lot's to see and do in the area including Beaufort. We really enjoyed the Seafood Festival. Highly recommend you stay a few days to enjoy this great marina and town!

Summertime in Morehead City, NC, 2016-10-23
Captain: , Clubfoot Creek, NC (51)

We have spent the past 4 summers at MCYB-it is a great marina! The dockmaster and his crew are there whenever you need them, and the facilities are kept in excellant condition. The highlight this summer was watching the sport fish boats leave early in the AM to fish the Big Rock Tournament. Looking forward to coming back next summer! Summer 2015, another great year at the Yacht Basin on D Dock AKA DeFever Dock!

Really Nice, 2016-10-02
Captain: , Minnesott Beach, NC (10)

Had a great one night stay. Dockhand tied us and hooked us to electrical in the pouring rain. Very nice people working in Dockmasters office. Clean bathrooms and fairly good wi-fi. Very close walk to one of my favorite places to eat(actually drink craft beer). Tight Lines Pub is only a few blocks away.
Thanks,

Captain: , jupiter,fl (130)

We arrived early this morning in a torrential downpour but nevertheless, Dockmaster, Mike Pollard, was there on the dock, waiting for us and very capably settling us in. They have beautiful flosting docks, great wifi, a loaner car, and a boater's lounge. We will always make Moorehead City Yacht Basin one of our stops.

Great place to stay, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Bokeelia, FL (22)

We were worried about Julia and needed a place to dock for a couple of days to provision and get some shore time. Mike and his staff were great and we had a wonderful experience there. We will be back.

Great stop on ICW, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Wilson, NY (10)

9/19/2016 This marina has everything a boater needs and wants. Protected waters, wide floating docks look new, excellent power, fast fuel up, and very clean. We were greeted by 2 experienced dock hands who got us tied up quickly and secure. We were fueled imediately. The laundry and bath /shower rooms were also very clean. We used the courtest car twice and the dock cart too. Nearest restaurant is about 100 meters, more choices about 1/4 mile. We would definately return

great place to stay, 2016-08-03
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (40)

We got in to Morehead City late and there was an after hours number listed. I called it and had to pleasure of speaking to Mike. It was his day off but he took the time to tell us how to get in to the marina, the codes, where to dock and even some of the close restaurants. He could have ignored my call or been short with me but he spent time on his day off assisting us. The marina had clean restrooms and shower facilities and there were plenty of restaurants nearby. The staff the next morning were very kind and appreciative. We would stay here again due to the awesome customer service they provided.

Has it all., 2016-07-29
Captain: , Wickford, RI (380)

This marina has it all. Great location, strong WiFi, the staff is excellent. There's some stores within walking distance, notably a marine Hardware store and they have a courtery car to go to those stores that aren't close by.

We stopped here again on or way north. Once again our experience was wonderful, the dock hands really know what they are doing. It was easy in, I needed fuel, so they made sure I was in a slip within fuel pump reach. We used the courtesy car to stock up on provisions. There's a hardware store within a easy walk, so I used the oppotunity to buy some needed marine hardware. We'll be back in the fall.

Premium Marina - Still True 7/2016, 2016-07-18
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

We stayed here for the first time after hearing about it. A tad pricey, but compared to Beaufort, not too bad. If they charged more, we would go somewher else. First class facilites and staff. Nice protected basin

Third time, no change, 2016-07-18
Captain: , Rockport, ON, Canada (265)

Just perfect. Super helpful, great courtesy car, clean facilities, protected dock, good internet.

another good review, 2016-07-10
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, Fl (320)

I have to agree with the other reviews. This place is great. Price of fuel and dock price very good. Pet friendly. Bill and Lee did a great job tying us up. Great directions coming into the Marina by Bill. Loaner car today for 2 hours and Lee helped me back to the boat with 2 dock carts loaded with supplies. You cannot find better service anywhere . We will be back !!!

Excellent Service Continues, 2016-05-18
Captain: , annapolis (453)

My sixth visit in a many years and Mike and the staff continue to provide excellent service - fueling, docking and/or pumping out.

The marina is clean and well maintained - docks, showers, laundry and grounds.

It is always a pleasure to return to a marina and experience the same great service.

I do wish they had a freezer with ice cream bars etc.

Looking forward to my next visit.

The staff Mike, Bill and Lee are great. They are very helpful when docking, fueling and pumping out. Nice facility out of the Beaufort/Morehead current with like new floating docks, dependable wifi and Floyd's Restaurant (excellent food) is next door.

MCYB - Top of the Line, 2016-05-17
Captain: , Southport, NC (40)

We have visited MCYB on our Bristol 47.7 three to four times a year for the past three years - sometimes staying for a couple of months there. We arrived May 12 and will be there for three weeks or so. Once again, we are experiencing a top-rated marina. From Owner to Dockmaster to other staff, they know boats, weather, and local information. They are respectful but not overbearing with information and advice. I think the staff and in particular Mike the Dockmaster could get us on and off the dock there in any conditions. The marina, bathhouse and docks are the cleanest anywhere and the location is excellent for restaurants. We purposefully wait and get their fuel. Call early though, I think our experience at MCYB is similar to most. Thanks MCYB - Van and Emily Beck.

Never again, 2016-05-15
Captain: , Galena, Ohio (50)

For $93 for one night we got: no record of our reservation that had been made over a week before our arrival (I spoke to Bill), stuck in a slip near the grass causing us to sit in mud all night, conflicting reports from staff on how deep it was. One man finally told us that we better back up straight with no turn when we left or we'd be in the mud. Having asked to bow in, they assured us the finger docks were long enough (32 ft we were told, then 25 feet) when in fact we couldn't get off our boat except from the bow. We had to ask a friend to come get our dog off the boat to do his business since it took them awhile to bring a three step, then a four. As a 65 yr old woman, I don't appreciate dismounting from the bow of my boat. While all this went on, we heard on the radio that other boats were being side-tied on the long wall of the fuel dock. Later we discovered it was all the beautiful 80+ foot boats being placed there. Guess us 45' boats don't count the same. The marketing plan of this marina is clear.

Management response:
Once again we apologize for your negative experience at our marina. It did not meet your or our expectations on what a boater's stay should be like at our facility. Unfortunately after checking and rechecking, we have not found a record of this reservation. Our employees are human and usually the best around but mistakes do happen. With allowing boats to stay due to weather conditions and an additional seventeen boats varying from 28 ft -75 ft coming in, we tried to accommodate your vessel with the only thing we had unreserved. Please see our private message if you'd be willing to give us another try. Safe travels.

Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (450)

Good folks, nice docks and a nice location compliment this first class marina! Stopped here in May 2016 and felt like coming home as we have been here a number of times. First class then & even better now. On top of that, restaurant next door, Floyds, is first class and dessert was a nice touch.

Excellent facility, 2016-05-05
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay (62)

We've made this a regular stop north and southbound. The docks and staff are among the best we have found along the ICW and elsewhere. It is in a maritime industrial area, but restaurants and other services are within easy walking distance. The waterfront street is quite nice. Everything you need, easy in from the inlet or ICW. Much easier to get to than Beaufort.

We appreciate, 2016-05-04
Captain: , Boucherville (10)

On our way up north, we were recommanded to stop at Morehead City Yacht Bassin. The recommendation were all wright! All the amenities to look for while traveling, easy access wifi, clean and good looking showers. The next morning when time was come for us to leave a mechanical issue pinned us down, we used there courtesy car and in no time we were back on the water again. All the staff were comprehensive, helpful and were looking forward to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Thanks a lot to all of them! Morehead City Yacht Bassin is a really good marina that is totally worth it!!

Skilled dockhand and more protected than other MC marinas, 2016-04-26
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1120)

We came in during quite a blow. Dockhands know their stuff. Fuel and pump out on the long face docks used for transients. Bathrooms not really up to 5-star, but all else is.

Pretty nice and protected. Lee and Doug are great guys. Free desert last night at Floyds which you can see from the marina. Great facilities. Ask about their winter long term rate. Pretty sweet.

Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

Be aware of dredging with a floating pipeline on starboard side as you enter, makes this a bit exciting. The dredge operators did not respond on 16 or 13 but a little workboat ran out with shouts to show us the entrance, which is confusing. Suggest you wait before transiting the dredge operation for them to come out to show you where the safe passage is located.

The marins is very well protected from winds in all directions, unlike those on the south side of the land. A short walk to restaurants.

Management response:
Thank you so much for the review and for staying with us! Fortunately the dredging has been completed and is no longer an issue. We hope to see you again soon.

Safe, secure and good location, 2016-02-24
Captain: , Bloody Bay Caymans (46)

We have been performing a maintence cycle (great vendors) for 6 weeks from mid Jan. to end of Feb. While we have stayed at several of the other marinas in the area and they have thier strenghts, Yacht Basin combines them all. We have been here during extremely heavey rains, very high winds >68 knots and large temp. swings, 25 to 70. We have been well protected from high winds, and sea state. For any boat smaller than 65, you could fit in a slip and recieve even better protection. The marina and heads are very well maintanined, cleaned daily. Staff is friendly, helpful and seriously walks the docks each day, checking boats, making adjustments and reacting to sudden weather changes. While many marinas claim to check boats, I have never personally seen a marina do a better job of checking and taking action than the Yacht Basin. We will deinfately stay here in the future.

Arrived mid afternoon - took on fuel. Paying by check or cash gets you an additionaldiscountover all others. Lots of restaurants ineasy walking distance. Very helpfuland knowledgable dock staff.

ber 23,2014

Arrived mid afternoon - easy docking with light wind. Wind can be very nasty in here if from the NW. Staff friendly and helpful. Took on fuel - better discount for paying by cash or check. Very clean facilities and secure as well. Easy walking distane to restaurants anda town. Found nice bakery about 1 mile up Arendell street. Good stop over.

May 6, 2014

Arrived in AM after an overnight run from Charleston. Dock staff knowedgeable and friendly. Good location when wind is not strong. No current in basin. Easy walking distance to marine hardware store and Sugarloaf Island bakery where we got good bagels, muffins andcroissants. Also many good restaurants in area.

October 23, 2013 - Still very good fuel prices. Docking was a bear with a 35-40 knot wind and low tide so not much room to maneuver. THe good news(?) was that the wind put us on the dock - slammed us into it would be a better description. DOck staff friendly and experienced. Easy walk to restaurants - lots of choices. WIFI still did not work for me. Still windy in AM - fun getting off - against dock staff very helpful.

May 9,2013 - Arrived at 9:00AM after an overnight run offshore from Charleston. Duane was his usual charming efficient self. Got us docked and fueled and settled in within30 minutes. A very clean facility. WIFI did not work.

OCtober 2012 - Another enjoyable experience. Easy docking alongside on the transient dock. Winds were light and no current in the basin. Easy walk to our favorite restaurant - Ruddy Duck Tavern - a deceiving name. It is a nice family restaurant with excellent burgers and fries. The waterfront is a nice walk after dinner.

May 2012 - Another good experience - the wind was not too bad this trip. Easy access to restaurants and off teh ICW.

Morehead City Yacht Basin is a nice clean facility. There is no current in the basin but the wind can be nasty in there. Easy walking to Ace Marine Hardware and many restaurants. Quiet during the week but weekends can be noisy with parties on other boats. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Good Place to stay, 2015-11-10
Captain: , Bedford, NH (715)

We stayed one night (Nov. 2) It was pouring rain when we arrived and the dock staff was soaking wet helping us with lines and fuel. Several restaurants within walking distance but some are closed on Mondays. We had a great meal and the rain had let up while we walked to and from. Didn't really get to see much of the area.

Fantastic!, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (110)

Great facility. This was our first time here and we were thoroughly impressed. Had two helping hands assisting us to tie up. The facility looked great. Found the facility very modern. Mike the dockmaster, was very friendly and informative. The location of the marina was right downtown within walking distance of many restaurants and stores

Great floating docks. Long face dock with Valvtect fuel. Helpful and friendly staff. Courtesy car. On premise laundry. Spotless showers / restrooms. Walking distance to Floyd's restaurant as others have mentioned. Plenty of depth. Dog friendly grassy field. Would definitely come back.

Captain: , Baltimore (439)

We had made a reservation, canceled it, then called back and asked if we could come in. Our buddy boat had broken a throttle cable in Adams Creek. MCYB took us in, and then we were stuck for 4 days due to high winds and rain.

The floating docks are very nice with full length finger piers on one side. We were there long enough, I even plugged into the cable TV.

We used the couresty car for West Marine, Harris Twetter, a run to Rusty Ron's - marine surplus.

For our repairs, local fishermen and a MTOA port captain recommended R&T Marine who did a wonderful job.

It feels like home..., 2015-10-25
Captain: , Castine, ME (59120)

We got "stuck" here waiting for weather in October 2015. We've never been happier to be stuck!

We experienced Floyd's. Wow. Just incredible - the best ever. We sent another 4-5 boats there and they all had the same experience. Sometimes, the best is right there in your own backyard.

The courtesy car is great - lunch out and filled up on groceries.

The four days passed too quickly. While the wind roared, we were very safe and secure in the basin. We left in beautiful weather.

This is a fantastic place - I'm tempted to manually go in an give them 6 stars! ;)

Previous review:
We're back again in fall 2012. We came here to get out of an approaching nor'easter. This is an exceptionally safe place for bad weather.

You won't find more experienced docking assistance anywhere. The facilities are fantastic. The dogs liked the field next door. It's a wonderful transient stop but if I lived around here, I could see keeping my boat here permanently because it has such a great feel.

Previous review:
So we're cruising down with plans to stay in the Beaufort/Morehead City area for just a single night before heading further south. We find MCYB with 17 reviews averaging 5 stars. This gets our attention so we decide to check it out. On the way there we get a call about an extended family emergency and it changed everything.

We pulled into the marina and stayed for 2 weeks although we were off the boat for 10 days. When we informed the marina of our issue, they took over and made everything easy. They were waiting to tie us up, get us secure and feeling safe, and assisted with rental cars. 3 hours after pulling in we were in a car heading out.

We did get to spend a few days when the emergency was over - the staff is great. The facilities are nice and it is especially wonderful without the wind and current in the basin. Why have I always gone to Beaufort instead? I just didn't know.

A courtesy car means we could do a minor provisioning, check out the restaurants, and even go to Best Buy for a gadget fix.

A marina shows its character when you're having an emergency and need help. MCYB has a lot of character and shouldn't be missed.

We stayed here 2 nights, Sunday 10/18/15 through Tuesday 10/20/15. Can't say enough about how nice and helpful the staff is. Lee and Bill are outstanding. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance, but do yourself a favor and don't miss Floyd's. The best food and service I've had in a while. Good hardware store two blocks away; Harris Teeter supermarket a few miles away; Loaner car for 2 hrs. for $10.00. Clean, actually no, spotless showers. Looking forward to going back on our way back North.

Great place to stop, nearby shoping and great hardware store

Easy in and out, 2015-07-10
Captain: , sv Averi (664)

We stopped for two nights, got fuel without moving and were close enough in town to walk most everywhere. Hardware, dining and marine goods all within a few min walk. Friendly staff, nice faciities reasonable prices. Be aware, there are lots of fishing and charter boats here and a lot of engine noise and fumes on occasions.

Easy transient stop, 2015-05-21
Captain: , Bethel (130)

Morehead City Yacht Basin is easily accessible, well-protected, and friendly. The dockmaster was good about returning calls for a slip while I was offshore and gave me good instructions for an easy, late-arrival tie up. Don't miss the excellent restaurant within easy walking distance.

Super location with great staff, 2015-05-17
Captain: , Sarnia (371)

We were here for a week waiting for TS Ana to pass through. Docked at the far end it was secure and hardly felt the effects of the winds. The staff are very helpful and available. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance.

Great Transient Stop, 2015-04-06
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

We stopped for one night while heading north. We picked this marina because the forecast was for winds gusting from the southwest at 25-30 knots and we couldn't have picked a better spot. Despite the wind, it was quite in the marina basin and we got a good night's sleep. Used the washer/dryer - wish there was more than one set, but worked just fine. Loaner vehicle a plus, though we didn't need it this visit. Very helpful and friendly staff. All in all, a great stop.

Great Place to Stay for a while. Great Marina., 2014-12-03
Captain: , Baltimore, Md (20)

The Staff is really there to watch after your boat while you are away. I had a 60 ft power yacht there and highly recommend this marina especially for leaving your boat for the whole winter. The staff helps people getting in and out of the slips.

Morehead for a night or a few days, 2014-11-29
Captain: , Henderson Harbor, NY (431)

Protected harbor, great staff, nice showers and laundrey room. Easy walking to good eating spots and downtown shops. Very nice loaner auto. In general its a good place to stop to refuel both the boat and boaters. The Staff is professional and very accomodating.

Modern, clean with large slips and floating docks, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Rock Hall (60)

Very helpful dock staff who helped us tie up in a strong breeze.

Great location easy in and out, 2014-11-18
Captain: , Stevensville MD (30)

We stayed three nights to wait out some weather. They met us at the dock and got us tied up. Marina staff very friendly and knowledgeble. Nice floating docks and good protection in a blow. They have a courtesy car to use for a fee of 10 dollars which was very reasonable. Walking distance to several restaurants. Clean bathrooms and showers no shelf in the shower, but hooks on back of the shower stall made it workable. Nice lounge area with television and good but unprotected internet access.

nice, clean, orgnized, 2014-11-18
Captain: , newport beach (128)

propblem sheltering from a north and NW bound wind, but other then that its a high class marina

Great location, docks, price and service, easy in and out., 2014-11-13
Captain: , Kingston, Ontario, Canada (138)

Great location, docks, price and service, easy in and out. Best Marina in Morehead City.

Great service, very protected, 2014-11-07
Captain: , Fells Point, MD (30)

The dockhands were a great help with fueling, pumpout, docking. Nice facility, clean and with everything in working order. We asked for a key to the lounge so we could enjoy it after hours. Enjoyed pizza with some fellow sailors. Would stay again.

Outstanding facilities and staff!! Highly recommend., 2014-11-03
Captain: , Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (30)

We got caught in a cold front with some nasty winds blowing thru. We were only going to stay for 2 nights but then opted for a week to do some repairs and rest up. The weekly rate is about half the daily rate. Great showers, laundry, club room, courtesy van etc. But here's the clincher: our Friends aboard Nelleke suggested a potluck in the club room for the storm stayed cruisers. The owner of the marina thought it was a great idea, and even provided the fried chicken. Great event. 2 thumbs up!

Great Dock and Reasonable Prices, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Essex (140)

We paid for diesel with a check and was charged $3.38 per gallon, and with the Boat US discount on Amex was charged $1.80 per foot.
The docks were great and the dock hands extremely accomodating when we requested a more protected slip. Giving us our choice of the open slips available.
The yacht basin is well protected and convenient to some great restaurants across the road. We definitely would stay here again.

Outstanding, 2014-10-15
Captain: , Little River, SC (323)

Very nice marina. Dock hands took great care of us. Prices were reasonable. When our traveling companion had mechanical problems they had a mechanic there in short order to get us back underway.

Second time here, 2014-09-17
Captain: , naples, florida (90)

First time was last spring and they were great in an emergency situation in getting the right help aboard ASAP. Really appreciated that and so stopped by on the way south this year. Again, Mike and Bill on the dock were helpful, the place is very clean, showers had plenty of hot water. And Floyds 1921 right next door is one of the best places for fresh fish in the area. Handy to get back out to the ICW an added benefit when you depart

Still no hot water, 2014-09-02
Captain: , St. Petersburg, Fl (70)

Three of us men went to shower yesterday evening. Seperately, of course. I must have run the water for 15 minutes waiting for it to get hot. Yes, I know, sometimes they are plumbed backwards. So I tried every combination. THERE WAS NO HOT WATER!! The other two guys didn't have it either. Oddly, there was hot water in the ladies shower.
We left early, but I called the dockmaster to complain. His initial response was, "oh, there is hot water, because they have it in the ladies room". I said yes, but there is none in the men's room. He told me that I must not have had the valve in the correct position. "Wouldn't that be the one labeled "H"?" It turns out that there is supposedly some magic spot in between C and H where hot water can be found. He said that they had once had tape on the faucet to show exactly where the hot water could be found, but that the hot water had apparently washed it off. Imagine that!!
He suggested that I should have called him, as he lives just down the road. I pointed out that I don't have a place to carry my cell phone when I'm naked!
I didn't get an apology and I darn sure didn't get a refund on the $1.80/ft. fee!
I think I'll stay in Beaufort next time.

Great stop for visit to Beaufort, 2014-08-08
Captain: , St Pete Beach, Florida (256)

We stopped here after a 40 hours sail from St. Johns Yacht Harbor (Charleston). Bill and Mike were friendly and helpful, much appreciated in our sleep deprived state. They gave us a helpful list of cabs, restaurants, tv channels, etc. which is most appreciated. The bathrooms are clean and cool, there is one washer and dryer. There is a nice captain's lounge as well.

Next day we took a cab into Beaufort. We enjoyed the double decker bus tour, the Marine Museum and Boat Shop and nice lunch at The Old Salt. it happened to be Pirates weekend, with lots of sea chanty's, reenactors, cannon fire and activities for kids.

Fuel is available on the long face dock where we stayed. The fuel price are quite good, the electricity is a flat rate and the slip fee is $1.80/ft.

There is a gas station/convenience store and very nice restakurant within a short walking distance. The marina offers the use of a courtesy car for 2 hours ($10), but it has to be returned at 5:30 pm.

Great stop with excellent staff and facility, 2014-08-05
Captain: , Richmond, KY (30)

Stayed 2 nights July and 28 due to weather. MCYB staff are absolutely excellent...helpful, professional and knowledgeable. Had us tied up quickly in good order. The docks and all the facilities are first rate. We used the courtesay van ($10 for 2 hours) to run errands. Just a couple of niggles...no hot water in the shower on our last morning though i let it run for at least 10 minutes on full hot and the wireless at the dock was oddly intermittent. i never could get a stable connection. Otherwise, we were very pleased and will certainly stay again.

good little marina, 2014-07-26
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (995)

I've heard so much about this marina that I had to try it. One thing for sure... Mike is great, the docks in perfect shape, fuel is right at your dock. Facilities seem new.
I'm not sure I'll come back and will return to my usual stop when com through here. The marina is in the industrial part of town. To walk to a restaurant you have to walk on a run down grass area along the road. At night that is no fun. Water sits in the parking lots after a rain. That day it just happened to be windy and a big storm was moving in later in the day. When entering the basin, the wind thru us around and docking and leaving the next morning was tough. So that and being In an industrial area looking at old work boats and ships made it unappealable to me.

Nice Stop in Morehead City, 2014-06-27
Captain: , Detroit (260)

Current not too tough once you get in the basin. Staff is very helpful and professional. Facilites are clean and well kept. Floyds is a restrurant next door and is not to be missed as the food is really world class. Ace Marine is a walking distance marine hardware that is very well stocked with fair prices. Good opportunity to skip a visit to WM :) Basin has a 2 hr rental car for $10.

great stop, 2014-06-11
Captain: , CHARLESTON (330)

Couldn't ask for a better stop - spent two nights. Mike and Lee were very helpful. We used the courtesy car and went to West Marine and a quick tour of Beaufort! Clean bathrooms and laundry.
Will stop again!

Finest Kind, 2014-05-18
Captain: , Auburn, Maine (407)

Stayed the night of 5-13-14, bought fuel. Easy in to marina from ICW, dockhands there to help if needed. Fueled right at slip, and at very good price. Everything was both professional and friendly. Lee was terrific. Will stay again. Steve Lunt on Kathie M.

Good marina, 2014-05-11
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

Stopped here and were pleased with the helpful dockhands who are boat knowledgeable and very helpful.
Floyd's restaurant close by was very good and well priced.
Cable TV did not work and no trash cans on the dock, plenty of water for our 5'6" keel on entry and dockage.

One of the BEST on AICW, 2014-05-06
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

Summary: Great Marina
Stayed 5 days at Morehead City Yacht Basin and it would be at the top of my list of marinas on the AICW except for the negative listed at the bottom of this review. Everything you expect and want including friendly, helpful staff, wide floating docks, gas, diesel, 30 & 50 amp service, boaters lounge (during business hours), book exchange, great restrooms and showers, laundry, WIFI, cable TV, water at each dock, great location (two blocks to several great restaurants) etc.
Negative:
They charge $12 per day for a 50 amp hookup. After 2 days we decided to stay for a week and went on the meter for electric. Total electric for the next 3 days was $4.51. They did not charge me the $4.51 but the $24 was not adjusted. $12 per day seems excessive when actual usage is less than $2 per day.

Good protected marina, 2014-05-02
Captain: , Pensacola, Fl (70)

The staff was beyond professional and the facilities were very well maintained and exceptionally clean.

First Class Marina, 2014-04-27
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

Great facilities, knowledgeable staff, and super location for Morehead City. Cudos to Lee and Bill.

Wonderful place to dock, 2014-04-09
Captain: , Jacksonville, North Carolina (51)

Class all around, everything is catered and the staff is awsome!!!

Excellent!, 2014-04-07
Captain: , League City, Texas (252)

This is a great marina. We stayed here three nights. We used the loaner car to stock up on supplies. We walked to nearby restaurants and marine/hardware stores. We took our dingy to Beaufort and caught the ferry out to Shackleford Island for a wonderful outing (wild ponies and beach picnic).

Great Place for help when you need it!, 2014-03-06
Captain: , Bath, NC (10)

We arrived with a dead battery bank on a Friday. Six year old Batts bit the dust. Met "Lee" the dockmaster who helped us get started locating replacement battery. Went to close by Ace hardware for information and parts, had lunch at Beach Bumz, made some calls. Used courtesy car to seek out best source of replacement parts and complete repairs by Monday PM.

Super clean facility, quiet, WIFI works all the way down the dock great transient accomodations right off the ICW. Glad we stopped.

Excellent Location, 2013-12-09
Captain: , Palm City FL (134)

Professional staff, floating docks and excellent location - no wake and well protected. We had no issues with 45 kt winds and a strong cold front passing the area in late November 2013.

Excellent Marina, 2013-11-23
Captain: , Bronte Outer Harbour Marina (70)

Helpful staff; clean and updated washrooms/showers, courtisey car...would definitely come back!

Friendly and Convenient, 2013-11-16
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (40)

Dockmaster and assistants were great. Close to ACE hardware and good restaurants. Only comment is to be careful on where they dock you because the close in spaces by the heads and showers are a bear to get out when it is windy. Often that is the case at Morehaead City.

Second visit, 2013-11-11
Captain: , Galesville, MD (1067)

This marina comes through. Dock staff helpful and understands needs of cruisers. Agree with other comments re clean facilities. Good fuel prices.

We did have a challenge docking dock-side-to in the current and wind conditions we had. No problems when we left in calmer conditions.

Consistency, 2013-11-10
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (268)

We've stayed here several times and it is my favorite location in the area. Good dockhands, helpful staff and convenient to restaurants and services. There is a courtesy car (for a nominal fee) available but marine supplies, restaurants and a convenience store are easily within walking distance.

Still a great stop!, 2013-10-31
Captain: , Cape Porpoise, Maine (240)

This was our 4th time stopping here and it was still great for fuel and an overnight. The dock hands are very professional and efficient. The fuel prices are very good. My only, very mild complaint is that when you ask them for restaurant suggestions, they only mention Floyd's. The #1 rated restaurant (out of 95 listed on Trip Advisor) in the area is only about 6 blocks away. Floyd's is good, but City Kitchen is outstanding.

Morehead City Yacht Basin, 2013-10-14
Captain: , Sandwich (692)

Morehead City is a commercial/industrial harbor. Not much in way of touristy attractions. Our marina stop was an overnight stay. A MarinaLife member offers discounts on dock/gas and a convenient stop on intracoastal. By presenting the marina's business card at Floyd's 1921 house you get a free desert. Bath/shower facilities are clean. Onsite washer/dryer.

Great Staff and Well Protected Facility, 2013-09-05
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (702)

Extremely courteous and proficient staff, and a facility that is well protected from current make this an excellent stop. Facilities are first-rate, and folks are most helpful in giving advice about the area and attractions. In touring Beaufort, don't miss Scuttlebutt's...found chart kit and guide book no one else had carried in stock.

THE place to get diesel!, 2013-08-26
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (432)

Lots of sportfishers keep fresh diesel turning at a high rate. Very attentive dockhands and many fine restaurants close by. Wifi, Clean Showers/Bathrooms, and laundry all in the boathouse.

Good people. Helpful, attentive, and friendly.

Great Marina and great location, 2013-08-15
Captain: , Oriental NC (209)

Sheltered location just around the corner from the Morehead City restaurants. Ace Marine is 2 blocks away. Very nice facilities and staff.

Great Choice, 2013-08-08
Captain: , Chicago, Il (55)

Newbie, pulled in off ICW in 30Kts wind. Mike and his staff did outatanding job assisting getting us in safely. Facilities are 1st class, excellent restaurants close by, coutesy car available, although we didn't use it. Just sorry we couldn't stay longer. Would definitely return.

MCYB on 8/2-3/13, 2013-08-04
Captain: , Abilene, TX (210)

Same as below if not better-review from mid June-First class facility with a great staff, clean, fresh and friendly. Dockmaster Dewayne gave great local knowledge on restaurants and shopping. They have loaner car for $10- 2 hrs but we didn't use it, local cabs cost $6 minimum, but that will get you most anywhere in Morehead or Beaufort, both waterfronts are quaint and fun. Will stay here on return trip. Protected and safe, would feel comfortable leaving boat here if necessary because of the staff's excellence.

Great spot!, 2013-08-01
Captain: , Savannah, GA (320)

At end of a channel - secluded and out of weather and traffic. Close to restaurants within walking distance. We ate at Floyd's - great food and we got a free dessert thanks to the marina. Used courtesy car to do a little tourist shopping in Beaufort which was only 2 miles away. Beautiful little town with shops on the water. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Nice place, 2013-07-26
Captain: , Panama City (40)

Planned to stay one night, ended up staying a month. Great staff, very helpful. Clean marina, very pet friendly - lots of grass. Good prices. Would stay here again. Deep water and light current.

Great place to leave your boat, 2013-07-25
Captain: , Gulf Harbour, Fl (239)

My wife and I needed to go back to Florida for a couple of weeks and leave our boat in the area. I looked for a place that would be safe and secure, and it certainly is. Chantal was threatening when we departed for Fl, so I stripped the boat. Chantal died out and all was well. Otherwise I'll just echo others comments about how helpful the staff was. And they even got me a 10% discount from Enterprise.

Excellent Marina, 2013-07-22
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1236)

WIth a lot of very interesting boats.
Stayed for a couple of days and the staff was great.
I like the idea of the 10.00 loaner car.
Floyd's restaurant was very good and a short walk.\
Sanitary Seafood is across the street.
WiFi is good if you have a powered antenna.

I cannot say enough good things about this marina!, 2013-07-14
Captain: , Charleston, SC (40)

Well-protected basin, excellent service, super clean, easy walk to great restaurants! We arrived a month ago...late in the evening due to a 2 1/2-hour closing of the ICW at Camp LeJeune. We were tired and low on fuel. Duane guided us in and tied us up, even though the marina had been closed for hours. He was extrememely helpful with advice, and the next day he even rode with us into our slip. We are new to a twin-screw and the slip seemed narrow. Tropical Storm Andrea was threatening, so time was of the essence. Lee and Mike, the dockmasters, have been fantastic and accomodating. Other boaters here, whether transients or liveaboards, have been so friendly and helpful. L&M Marine Services owner, Mike Collins, has a boat here and has done some minor repairs for us. He is competent, fair and reasonable. We've been here over a month, and we don't want to leave!

Still nice and clean, 2013-07-11
Captain: , Southport, NC (706)

We came from the ICW South bound so it was a breeze getting in and out. Took on diesel and pumpout, then on to a T head dock. Staff was great as usual. Clean as always. Arrived on Saturday so the Sport fish boats came in at around 5:00pm. WOW !! What a bunch of Cowboys. I couldnt beleive how fast they drove through the marina. Then horsing the big boats around, reving engines. I guess they were trying to look cool. We were rocked excessively. Thats the only draw back to the this marina. Good places to eat walking distance. No grocery stores walking distance. I wouldnt say its a destination but a good stop over for the night.

Deserves a 5 star rating !, 2013-06-24
Captain: , Port Carlotte (10)

This marina not only offers piece of mind for boat mooring, but also has a first class brokerage agency.

great stop, 2013-06-23
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4176)

Dockmaster Lee met us on the dock and helped tie us up, didnt leave until we had our power line secured and everything was donee. Lee recommended Floyds 1921 Restaurant and gave us a card for a free desert. Had a fabulous meal there! This is a good marina, really nice docks, good laundry and showers. Has courtesy car but you have to pay $10 (not sure if that includes the gasoline).

Aim to please, 2013-06-11
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1520)

Even though it is Big Rock tournament week and the marina is full, Dwayne found us a spot. He and the rest of the staff are happy to have all the customers they can get and satisfaction with your experience here is their #1 goal. Very clean well kept marina and ancillary facilities too. Will happily return here again.

My favorite marina so far, 2013-05-14
Captain: , Hampton, VA (115)

Duane held his crew an extra hour to accomodate us. He sent us to an excellent restaurant within a block away. Got us fueled up so we could leave early in the morning and the facilities are spotless. The office manager emailed us to get a review of how they did. Will probably spend a night their on each trip.

A great stop, 2013-05-10
Captain: , Washington, NC (57)

A first rate marina with a staff to match. Clean facilities, laundry and comfortable captains lounge. Walk to restaurants and shops. Marina car available. The staff is knowledgable and friendly.

excellent facility and staff, 2013-04-30
Captain: , New Bern, NC (171)

We've stayed here several times and have always come away with a good experience. Docks are in excellent repair, restrooms and laundry are clean, and they have a very nice boater's lounge on the upper floor. Dock aster Dwayne Sandbo very helpful in getting boat docked and during leaving. Will definitely come back.

Our Second Stay, 2013-04-30
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

We agree with other reviews. This is the place to stay in the Morehead City/Beaufort area. It is very protected, and the Dockmaster is extremely professional to help you with your lines. The restrooms were clean. We did not use the courtesy car, but walked to Sammy's Seafood, which was worth the walk. This is a very convenient marina to stop at on your way north or south, and are big supporters of Active Captain.

Excellent Stay!, 2013-04-27
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (161)

We stayed at the Yacht Basin on 4.25.13. The dock master, Dwayne was very professional and very nice. He helped us with restaurants and shopping, and he arranged for us to use the marina van. Upon leaving he did a pump out and helped with the lines.

Getting into and out of the marina was extremely easy and they accommodated us on their face dock at our request. I liked the protection that this marina affords, being on the back side of Morehead City instead of on the Sound side. the marina is also across the street from the Morehead City waterfront where there are plentiful restaurants and shopping. Floyd's 1921 Restaurant is also within a block or two.

I would definitely stay here again.

Really nice stop, 2013-04-24
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

Liked these guys on the phone, sounded like a nice stop so we did. They were waiting for us at the dock, had us docked and connected in a couple of minutes, then were off to help other arrivals. We ended up here 6 days because of a death in the family and they helped us with the rate and electric. Very protected except for NW winds and still not too bad. Very clean restrooms/laundry, professionally run environment. Good reliable Wifi. Floyd's 1921 was very good per the other reviews.

THE Marina in Morehead City, 2013-04-24
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4015)

This is the place you want to dock your boat. It is a bit more pricey than the other marinas in town, but a better value by far. It is the most protected marina; has the nicest, heaviest, most secure docks; is staffed by excellent, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly people; has clean electicity with 30/50/100 amp connections; has little current for easy docking; has great fuel prices, and it is Valvtect; is the only marina with a courtesy car; has a clean, bright laundry room with commercial equipment; has a very nice captains' lounge; and is next door to Floyd's 1921 Restaurant.

We did look at some of the other marinas in the area during our stay and found that Yacht Basin far exceeded their facilities.

Yes, the courtesy cars does have a $10 charge, but that is a value. The transportation option offered at the other marinas is a taxi - immensely inconvenient and significatly more expensive.

In comparison to Beaufort, the Yacht Basin is less expensive, even after adding in the cost of a taxi to Beaufort, if you plan to visit there. And, you are in a more protected harbor.

Good stop overall, 2013-04-21
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

We stopped here because of the good reviews, and the excellent price for diesel. The price was for cash or check, and did not include an additional discount for the overnight stay. The dockmaster and owner were very welcoming and efficient. They were interested in how we heard of them, and were trying to figure out how best to invest in advertising. We of course told them Active Captain, which made them happy.

The courtesy car is necessary to get to the store, but $10. is a bit much. I wouldn't mind $5 at all since I usually put that much $ of gas in a courtesy car anyway. We still took it twice, one day to shop and the next day we were able to go to Beaufort across the bridge, and saw the Maritime Museum and took a short walk around town.

Don't miss Floyd's 1921 restaurant - a very short walk. Highly recommended by the staff and well worth it - possibly the best restaurant meal we have had all trip. Very fresh seafood and the vegetables were cooked right.

Top Notch marina!, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Bohemia River, Md (184)

We have made a habit of stopping here on our travels up and down the coast. The staff is friendly and helpful, the facility is clean and has everything you need. A loaner van is available to go shopping, and GREAT restaurants are within walking distance. Our favorite is Floyd's 1921. The docks are full of beautiful boats to look at too! This is Jarrett Bay country! We also appreciate the Sea Tow discount! WE'll be back!

Great Facility, good staff; stable management, 2013-02-11
Captain: , Raleigh, NC (62)

This is a well-run, professional operation. Same management, Jet Matthews, as Matthews Point Marina off Clubfoot Creek off the Neuse River. Jet has run Matthews Point for 30 years; MCYB for 10. He knows what he is doing. Great place to stop in Morehead. Floyd's Restaurant is a short walk away -- great food.

Great Place, 2013-01-29
Captain: , Seattle (180)

Second stop in 2 years, would recommend and if traveling thru would stop. Quiet, great staff and use of courtesy car is great.

our new choice when in the area, 2013-01-13
Captain: , New Orleans (651)

Stayed here Dec 28,2012 to Jan 19,2013. On previous trips we have stayed in Beaufort, but after reading Active Captain reviews, we tried this facility. We loved the protection and lack of current getting in/out of the slip. Great walkability rating to local shops and restaurants! Staff was great. They ask for feedback and sounds like they appreciate it. This is a great indicator of a business that really intends to provide what the customers desire. We will return soon.

Professionalism & Courtesy, 2012-11-18
Captain: , NY Harbor (10)

Reservations were taken in an efficient and courteous manner -- Dock Master responded professionally while under the pressure of a large number of vessels arriving to shelter from deteriorating weather at the same time - Services & facilities modern & well maintained

Great location and facility, 2012-11-13
Captain: , Ophelia, VA (849)

We stopped for a few nights the second week of November to rent a car and go visit relatives at Camp Lejuene and Raleigh for the weekend. Our boat was watched after in our absense. Compared to other marinas in the area, there is little current in this marina as it is off the ICW and is easy to dock.

Restaurants abound within walking distance. Showers and bathrooms are top notch and handicap accessible. Staff was helpful. Would be our preferable stop in this area in the future.

Hidden Gem, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Essex, CT (1152)

A great spot, hidden down a long, deep (12'+) canal. In addition to slips, there are several T-docks & a long face dock (with fuel all along) for transients. Less expensive & quieter than Beaufort, which is just a $8.00 taxi ride away.

Several great restaurants within walking distance. We especially enjoyed Floyd's 1921 (less than a 5 minute walk) with great food & exceptional service.

Only a single washer & dryer ($1.75/load), but are larger than normal & didn't have to wait.

A nice, fairly new courtesy mini-van you can reserve, with a generous 2-hour limit for only $10.00.

Note: Alex and Brett is a gourmet foods shop with mostly dessert baked goods, cookies and some breads. Also carry coffee, wine and a good selection of bulk items. Nice shop. Open at 9 or 10am On Arendell St approx 3 blocks from marina.

Well protected, nice, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Roseville MN (398)

Convenient to Morehead City restaurants. Very nice facilities. Helpful dock crew. Was well protected from strong north winds (or from any direction).

Easy access, nice docks, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Oriental (270)

We had no problems getting in and out of here even with some strong winds and currents. Very nice, clean floating docks. Channel is marked well for early morning departures. The dock hands guidance on the strong current was much appreciated. Gorgeous upstairs lounge and great internet there. Nice size; big enough but not a hike to the bathhouse from anywhere. Adequate shower facilities as I recal writing this a few days later. Great proximity to Ruddy Duck where I learned to LOVE Fish Tacos...do not miss them.

Possible negative: there is no security gate limiting access to the docks/boats and it is right on the main road over the bridge into Beaufort. There is a security camera and when we returned from dinner it did flash a light to photograph us as we approached the open entrance to the dock.

Awesome safe and protected marina, 2012-10-31
Captain: , Toronto (30)

We stayed at MCYB during Hurricane Sandy. The staff we very attentive to all the boats to ensure everything was safe. Very protected marina! The loaner van $10 for 2 hours is great to pick up supplies.

Great marina!, 2012-10-25
Captain: , Mystic, CT (270)

We've stayed here several times over the years and it is our go-to marina when we travel through here while transiting the east coast. Reasonable rates, wi-fi, Valvtect fuel, and nearby restaurants. The Ruddy Duck is a great nearby restaurant. The marina is also very clean and safe.

Good Choice, 2012-10-24
Captain: , Sunset Beach, NC (1124)

Easy in and out, protected and no current. Easy walk to town. Great staff. What else can be said?

Morehead City, 2012-10-21
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md (230)

The crew was very attentive when we docked. There are excellent restaurants in the area. We ate at Floyds 1921 and the food was excellent. Other than restaurants, there is nothing to do or see in Morehead. We paid the $10 and used the "courtesy" car and explored Beaufort. On our return trip will stay in Beaufort. Very nice town with lots of shops.

Stop for the Marina and Floyd's Restaurant, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (271)

Thsi has been one of our favorite stops heading south and the marina has great staff and facilities, but don't miss Floyd's restaurant about a ten minute walk from the marina. Marina gives a cash discount on slip and fuel. It is well protected from weather and boat traffic.

Good place to stop when heading South, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Fort Pierce, Florida (369)

We were recommended to stop here on our way south, after having bad experiences at Beaufort. Access was easier to docks and ICW, and Duane and the dock crew were great. Good docks, facilities and price was much better with BoatUS discounts on dockage and fuel. Will definitely stop here again.

Great stop before jumping off the ICW, 2012-09-30
Captain: , Oriental (100)

Have stayed at MCYB many times. Staff is always helpful. Close to resturants and ACE Marine and Rigging. Marina car to use for restocking. Showers clean. Washer and Dryer.

Little current., 2012-09-28
Captain: , Sydney (313)

Can't do the big currents of the other marinas at the time I was coming in so this was very nice and negligible current.

Best in Town!, 2012-09-28
Captain: , Topsail Beach, NC (480)

We've stayed here several times and it is always nice. Very protected. Nice floating docks. Nice shower facilities. Easy walk to several good seafood restaurants, shops, news stand and Convenience Store. Dock hands very helpful. 90 Cable TV Channels (great after having no cable for months in the Chesapeake!)

There is a charge for the "courtesy" car. Otherwise, we'd give it 5 stars.

Calm in the storm, 2012-09-23
Captain: , Bluffton, South Carolina (327)

The general area here is very crowded, boat traffic wise, particllarly coming from the west on the ICW, but the Yacht Basin is a quiet oasis. Marina head Mike is a very pleasant and knowledgable fellow. Convenient restaurants within walking distance. Transient dockage on the inside is an easy in and out.

Great place to stop, 2012-09-09
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

The Yacht Basin is a great place to stop. It is protected, Mike and the staff are great to work with and very professional. The town is a convenient walk and Beaufort is a short cab ($6.00 plus tip) ride away. The face dock, which serves as the fuel/pump-out dock, is an easy in and out. The only thing keeping it from five stars is the "courtesy" van has a two hour limit and a $10.00 charge attached to it. Pretty minor considering everything else the marina has going for it. The showers and heads are clean and the Captain's lounge is comfortable.

Really Nice Marina, 2012-08-15
Captain: , Palm Beach, FL (133)

I was going to stay at the Portside Marina, when someone in Coinjock suggested that I stay at Morehead Yacht Basin instead.

I am glad I did. This is a very nice marina. The staff is very helpful, the place is very clean, and it is a good deal with the discounts they give.

The Portside marina is ok, but you are right next to a cargo loading area that sometimes has ships being loaded all night. Plus, you are open to the shipping channel.

Morehead City Marina is in a protected cove and even when a large T-storm passed through, we hardly rocked at all.

They put most transients on a very large floating T dock and it is easy in and out. Depending on where they put you, they can fuel you up right where you are staying.

The town is not much, but there are a number of good resturants and ice cream places. Ace Marine Hardware is a unique place and woth a visit. The waterside walk way is very nice also.

Convenient stop to both the ICW and downtown and great people, 2012-07-10
Captain: , Seabrook, Texas (55)

We have been stopping in here for the last several years when we come through (both northbound and southbound). Mike and his crew are first rate and always ready to help. The floating docks are clean and in great shape. The marina is very convenient to the ICW and there are a lot of restaurants within easy walking distance. If you need to get a little further a field they have their "loaner" van ($10) to use. A stop not to be passed up.

We Love This PLace, 2012-06-29
Captain: , Between Boats, USA (623)

**UPDATE**
Stayed here June 2012 and STILL had a great experience! How can you not? Milke and the team could not be any better. They know what they are doing and get it done. We cannot speak more highly about their professionalism. In fact, I feel bad about staying anywhere else. (tongue-in-cheek).

I just wish the view was a little better and it would be PERFECT! But hey... still a 5-star place!

*******************************
Stayed here several times and love it. VERY close to downtown Morehead (walking) and biking distance to Beaufort. Well protected from every direction. It's less expensive that Beaufort and the dockmasters aren't mean to short boats. Best dock team down there IMHO. Bathrooms are nice, but strangely configured. We'll go back for sure.

**EDIT** Stayed here a couple of more time since. No change in the way we feel about the place. Mike and his staff are STELLAR!

Marlin fishing, 2012-06-07
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

This was the weekend for a Marlin fishing turney. The docks were very busy with a lot of party people. They have clean restrooms and showers, however I did have to wait for the shower room. Floating docks are well maintained. You will be charged for everything even a pump out.

Great Marina and Staff, Plus a Courtesy Car., 2012-06-06
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (738)

Today the wind is from the NE, so this marina is free of both wind and current. The dock staff is very accommodating and worked hard to be sure we had whatever we needed. Very clean and nice restrooms. Captains lounge was nice and would have been great if it were raining like it did yesterday. Also free wifi at the dock.

Very nice marina, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

The floating docks are in excellent condition. The bathrooms are very clean. One washer & dryer @ $1.75 ea. $12.00 fee for a pumpout - the only downside to this marina. Nice boaters lounge.
Helpful staff. Easy access to half a dozen restaurants in town. Loaner vehicle for $10.00 for 2 hours. Grocery stores not walkable. Ace Marine (caters to the commercial fisherman), Beach Bumz (pizza plus) and Alex and Brett (small gourmet store) are all walkable. Floyds is excellent but a little more expensive. New cheesecake place in town; closed on Sun/Mon.

Great marina with courtesy vehicle, 2012-05-19
Captain: , Detroit (647)

The staff here is very good. We were alongside the long gas dock and found everything as billed. Cable was available. Utilized the courtesy van and were able to get to grocery store and West. Quite a few nice restaurants and bars in the area.

Easy In and Out with Good Staff and Location, 2012-05-17
Captain: , Solomons, MD (882)

The staff was great and the slip was great. They asked whether we preferred port or starboard tie and bow or stern in -- and actually paid attention to our preferences. Also, the marina is close to some of the best restaurants in the area. Just so you know, however, this isn't a resort marina, nor is it close to a grocery store. But, since we were staying for a week we got special rates that made it one of the less expensive the area -- because other marinas would not give us a weekly rate.

Moreehead City, 2012-05-06
Captain: , Baltimore, Maryland (330)

Great floating docks and staff. I do not want to be tied up to the outside transient docks in a northwest blow, though. Great to walk to restaurants on the Morehead City Docks. (I would avoid the Ruddy Duck if at all possible).

Services and help, 2012-03-23
Captain: , Littleton, NC (416)

Pulled in to have repairs done. Made reccomendations and helped in everyway possible. Felt like home. Great staff and facilities but a little pricey

Considerate, 2012-03-22
Captain: , Solomons, MD (464)

Stopped in to wait out wind and snow. Dockmaster Mike tried to figure out the best rate for out stay. Always concerned about our finances and saving us money. If you can, walk over to Sammy's Ice House Restaurant. He opens at five but welcomed us at twelve thirty since he was cleaning up from the night before. Told us since he was there he would cook us whatever we wanted. Best raw oysters I've had in years. Make the trip for an old fashioned business attitude of serving the customer. All local seafood that Sammy prides himself on. A lot of it he catches himself.

03/21/2012 Great Marina, well protected, easy in and out. No current inside the marina. Wind not a problem. Skip the restaurants within walking distance this time of year, not worth the walk. Very disappointed in what has happened to the area.

stopped on 10/30/11, 2012-03-10
Captain: , Bear, DE (255)

Nice marina with easy docking and helpful dock hands. Nice area to walk around and the famous Floyd's is a must for fine dining.
03/07/12 Stopped on our return trip north. Just as good as ever. Good restaurants in walking distance. For ICW travelers south of this marina be prepared for lenghty delays if there is live firing exercise at Camp Leujune.

Very nice and clean marina with car available, 2012-01-19
Captain: , Apponaug, Rhode Island (274)

Only stayed for a day but our crew enjoyed the fresh seafood at the many restaurants that are in walking distance. The fact that you can rent a car is a great service and the docks and showers were in excellent condition. The staff is professional and are used to a transient crowed. We enjoyed our experience and will return. Easy in and out.

Great Price, 2011-12-07
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1234)

Stayed three days waiting for a weather window. Electric, washer and trash included as well as friendly staff. Only complaint is we were on the outside and wakes

Morehead City Yacht basin, 2011-11-19
Captain: , Greenville TX (580)

Great staff, very helpful. Close to good restaurants, cab to grocery only $10 each way.
The only "negative" is that the slips are all for much longer boats than our little 42 footer. Leaving in the wind made it a challenge to avoid the aft piers that were a good 10 feet behind us.

Morehead City Yacht Basin, 2011-11-09
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (386)

Excellent facility. We negotiated to tie up at the end of D dock because of the wind and current at the time we arrived. The dock hands were excellent in listening to our concerns and helping us find a slip that met our needs. The area surrounding the marina is not scenic. Very clean laundry and shower facilities. Ace Marine for supplies is a short walk away. Avis car rental in Morehead City came 6 miles to pick us up for a one-way car rental. The marina has negotiated discounts with Avis and Enterprise as well.

Great Spot on a Windy Day, 2011-11-07
Captain: , Morristown, NJ (383)

The nor'easter hadn't quite settled down so upon arrival two great dockhands had us lassoed as our trawler was attempting to become a kite! This marina is clean and well kept, excellent laundry machines and very clean shower/washrooms.
Excellent restaurants nearby you can eat fancy or just pizza, no place is a wrong choice and they are walkable. Do not miss the bakery!!! Fantastic breads!
They have a loaner car ($10 for 2 hours), we took advantage because of requiring routine bloodtest at a Quest which was not walkable. Sometimes we've spent as much as $50 for a roundtrip cab fare, so this is a great benefit at the marina.

Good place to stop, 2011-11-03
Captain: , City Island New York (600)

$1.80/ft + $12 for 50 amps, makes this stop expensive but it is well maintained and efficient, the dock hands are helpful and friendly, the bathrooms are clean and there is a spotless washer dryer. Flloyd's Restaurant is right next door and is a MUST stop here for Fried Green Tomatoes and Low Country Meat loaf and lots of other good stuff. We used the loaner car, $10 for 2 hours, to visit Beaufort which is delightful and we were able to get our dog to the vet who was lovely and fixed her right up. Very pleasant stay.

Convenient Stop, 2011-10-26
Captain: , Boston (232)

Marina is well maintained and is a convenient fuel stop.

One of the nicest - maybe the nicest, 2011-10-15
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Update: 10/2011 This may be the nicest marina we've ever been to.
No flaws. Still 5 stars. Floyd's is still wonderful.
Update: 11/03/10 They have upgraded their wifi, can get it everywhere. Still 5 stars, at least.
Update: 5/20/10/$1.75/ft $12/50amp Still one of the best stops on the ICW. No tide, no wake, no swell, and very protected, Free internet (has been upgtaded), free cable. Usually one of the very best prices for diesel (pay cash) without the inconvience of a commercial wharf. Great place to re-provision

Very protected - much more than the other marinas in MC. Has a captain's lounge, courtesy car, high speed diesel pumps, and a premeir restaurant within sight - Floyd's 1921. Nice folks and the owner seems to be around alot. Facility is kept up.

very nice marina, 2011-10-07
Captain: , New Smyrna Beach, Fl. (200)

Great location, excellent facilities and very well managed. Would recommend and would stay here again.

Top Rate Marina, 2011-10-05
Captain: , Lavallette, NJ (251)

New floating concrete and wood docks, very clean, immaculate showers big enough for 3 people and discounted fuel if you stay overnight ($3.62 diesel including tax as of early Oct 11). Very helpful staff and access to wide variety of services.
Exceptional restuaruant a short walk around corner - Floyds.
Rental car available for restocking ($10/hr).

Great place to stop, 2011-07-25
Captain: , Palmetto Fl (545)

We came in to the marina under very breezy conditions and the very capable dockhands made docking easy. Great showers and bathrooms. Nice boater's lounge with a view. Many restaurants and convenience store within walking distance. Ruddy Duck has great drink and food prices right on the water. Use of a courtesy car for 2 hours for $10 or take a taxi for $8 each way. Large boat marina that is well taken care of. Friendly staff.

The Pagano's aboard Bella Vita, 2011-07-05
Captain: , Charleston (241)

We had a great stay at this marina. Folks are very friendly and we were told several times how much they appreciate the business which is always a good sign. Boaters lounge is wonderful along with baths and laudry. Good restaurants within walking distrance.

Wonderful facility, great folks, 2011-06-27
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (30)

We stayed overight on 6/25/2011 and had a great experience! Easy in and easy out, clean restrooms and showers, excellent folks handling the lines, VERY friendly and professional staff - just perfect. The only small thing might be the fact that there are no decent-sized grocery stores within easy walking distance, but the $10/2hr mini-van allowed the whole crew of six to go get something eat and reprovision. If we come back up this way, we will make a special point to stay here again!

Clean, new, wifi, floatin docks, protected, courtesy car, 2011-06-01
Captain: , Key Largo (5330)

$1.80 ft Boat us, only has one washer dryer. All new looking.

Great Place, 2011-05-08
Captain: , Delray Beach, FL (21)

Didn't have an advance reservation, but they took care of us. Tides and winds were very unusual in our location when docking, but the staff had it covered. Nice dinner recommendations. Baths clean. Nearby restaurants - short walk. Marina officially closed at 6:00 pm on Saturday, but the team was there until 8:30 pm assisting boaters.

approach depths, 2011-05-04
Captain: , Westport,Ma (700)

Channel coming in carries 14 feet to accommodate the military boats next to the marina. The only issue here is the live aboard on the fuel dock right where the pumpout is (should be moved)

Marina just keeps getting better, 2011-04-17
Captain: , Cruising (3259)

We've stayed here many times over the years and the marina keeps up its high standards and always seems to get even a little better each time.
We highly recommend Beach Bumz for pizza and paninis (and pasta) - inexpensive and don't miss the home-made potato chips. A&B's shop/bakery is not to be missed - gourmet coffees, wine, and breads and baked goods are the best.

Clean and well maintained, 2011-04-10
Captain: , Germantown, TN (181)

This is mainly a fishing boat marina - not a lot of live-aboards. We lived aboard here for a month on a trawler. The restrooms are SUPER clean and the docks are well maintained. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The laundry room is small and pricey, but I never had to wait.

Location, Location, Location, 2011-04-01
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (631)

A fancy marina with a great location, close to the restaurants. (We especially like the Sanitary Fish Market.) Dock staff was helpful, restrooms were clean, but it was one of the higher rates we encountered.

Very Helpful, 2011-01-23
Captain: , Ottawa, Canada (363)

We ended up staying for 4 days due to weather and we were very impressed with Dwayne who went out of his way to help us get a few things done. As an example I mentioned that I was getting my feet wet washing the boat so he called West Marine, made a recomendation for rubber boots, checked stock for size and arranged for transportation with the marina van - very proactive. Dwayne also kept the lounge open after hours. Great location, well protected and very nice staff - very pleased!

steps from the best crab dip, 2010-12-09
Captain: , Wilmington Deleware (330)

This marina has everything close by that you might need. It is clean and the staff is helpful and friendly. Hardware, West Marine and grocery store are all a short car ride away.

The best part, just steps from the flaoting docks is The Ruddy Duck Tavern. A great restaurant with the most yummy crab dip.

Great Place to Stop!, 2010-11-06
Captain: , Annapolis (1465)

I'd have to echo all the previous reviews. Very professional and knowledgeable dock staff; courtesy van makes Beaufort very accessable. Floyds 1921 is a fabulous restaurant!!

Flood tide makes it tricky to get alongside the long floating dock.

Good for a Quick Stop, 2010-11-05
Captain: , Baltimore (317)

I like the Beaufort side of town much better. However, this marina is very nice and they are very friendly. They have a van you can use for $10 or so. The wifi worked fine for us. They have laundry and nice bathrooms. It is a short walk to some restaurants in moorehead city.

A safe port in high winds, 2010-10-16
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (370)

Went in to pump out and get H2O before going to Ruddy Duck's dock but winds were so high, we stayed put. Excellent protection; very helpful dockhands and personnel. Beautiful restrooms/showers...but no hot water that night nor the next morning. Otherwise, a great stop!

Great marina, 2010-10-11
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (50)

Convenient to the ICW. Minimal currents and wakes. Protected. Much easier to get in to than Beaufort. Professionally run. Responsive and capable staff. Good, clean bathrooms. Courtesy car available for nominal charge. Excellent restaurants nearby.

Good place to stay, 2010-05-30
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1134)

Good docks and knowledgable staff. Becareful of the depths. We were there Memorial Day Weekend with a bill fish tournament going on. Charts in guide books can be deceiving. This marina is down the small canal by the railroad bridge, not in the lagoon with the other marinas.

Morehead City Yacht Basin, 2010-05-29
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Excellent place to stay in the area. Great floating docks and nice restrooms and lounge. Great dining within walking distance.
More expensive than most we stay at BUT there is no trying to dock in the currents as in the neighboring city to the east. Something to consider at the end of a long tiring day. It is also not far off the ICW

Friendly marina, 2009-11-12
Captain: , Great Island, Maine (323)

Excellent helpful staff, modern clean facilities, and great WiFi.
This marina is easy to approach and well protected, the staff are extremely helpful, and very accomodating. Don't miss the Ruddy Duck restaurant if you like spicey and interesting food beautifully cooked. The surrounding community does tend to observe Sunday and closes many of the usual commercial establishments.

Super place and safe, 2009-09-26
Captain: , Block Island (1679)

Had to leave boat for a few days here. Very safe, accomodating place. Protected in all weather. Reasonable rates, clean laundry and spotless restrooms. A short walk to marine supply/hardware and lots of resturaunts. Highly recommended.

How many marinas still have loaner cars? Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Easy to get into, and out of boat traffic.

Outstanding Service, 2009-07-22
Captain: , South Portland, ME (537)

Staying at Morehead City Yacht Basin was a very pleasant experience. The service was just outstanding. The docking support was very professional and everything we needed was done with a smile. They have plenty of people and they all really know their job. They have a great courtesy car also.

a bit pricey, 2009-05-26

Great Accomidations, 2008-09-25
Captain: , Jacksonville Florida (125)

This is a recently rentovated Marina with everything you need including a loaner car. I had a little troublefinding it, as soon as you go under the railroad tressle bridge look imediatley to port and follow the canal into the marina. Lots of restaurants within walking distance
