Reviews for Moore Haven City Docks
Good place to spend a night or two, 2016-07-01
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (40)

Adequate dockage, fair price. Will make this a regular stop when doing the Waterway.

Nice stop over, 2016-05-25
Captain: , Portland,Oregon (270)

The dock is a very easy in and out. It's a great place to stage for the crossing of Lake O. We left a 9 am and were in Indiantown by 4pm in a 7 knot boat.

Good enough, 2016-04-23
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1081)

This is a good place to spend the night, though don't expect much from the bathrooms - dirty and carelessly painted. We had a great burger at Adams Angler Reef Restuarant a few blocks away.

Stopped for one night. Docks are OK, easy access, no tides, bridge close by, but didn't really notice much traffic. Quiet basically. Nice evening.

Nice Dock, Great Mexican Restaurant, 2016-03-24
Captain: , GLOUCESTER VA (30)

We stopped here twice, once westbound and again when comingback eastbound. Nice dock inexpensive with fenders and electricity included. Some cleats would make tying up easier. As others have noted the restrooms are not great. I didn't use the water so don't know about that. The sprinklers that came on for a couple of hours while we were there the second time were an inconvience since they watered the two main paths on and off of the dock. Had to go up the old stone steps at the east end of the dock toavoid getting wet. The nearby Mexican restaurant is well worth the 1/2 mile walk, the food is excellent. They close at 3:00pm on Tuesdays but we didn't know that and walked there for dinner about 6:15pm. Amazingly, they opened up and prepared a wonderful meal for us because the mother and son (owners) working inside recognized us as boaters! Five stars plus for them!

The price is right, 2016-03-07
Captain: , Erie, PA (577)

$1/ft for a nicely fendered dock with power and water. As it was Sunday we dropped a check into the slot near the door at the City Hall. In the early evening, the dockmaster showed up to collect, but there was no issue as we already paid. Burger King (not very good) and a Dollar Store (milk, bread) within a reasonable walk. We left a lilttle before 0800, crossed the lake and were into Indiantown by 1500 in a seven knot boat so it is a convienient stop if east bound.

Needs some TLC, 2016-03-04
Captain: , New Buffalo, Michigan (600)

Stopped here again on our way west this time. The docks are great nice and high so no ladder needed to get on and off. the city hall is right across the street and the library with free wi-fi is right next door. the bathrooms as mentioned need some TLC. No toilet paper and the shower was grungy. Alright for the guys maybe but the admirals will not be impressed. Lock still broke on mens shower but you can lock from inside. Agape thrift store across from Library. It is what it is. We will stop again and the way back east.

A great stopover after Lake O, 2016-02-15
Captain: , Little River, SC (40)

We stayed there Feb 2, 2016. Docks are as others describe. $1 foot. Pay at City Hall across the street. Power good. Water made tan ice cubes though. The men's room was quite dirty with door handle missing and open to the public. Ladies room somewhat better. We did not use either. The library had a used book sale at $1 per plastic grocery sack. We gave $5 each bag. They usually have a book sale. We ate on boat this trip but have gone to Mex restaurant north several blocks before. Fairly good food there. Still a convenient and quiet stop for us.

Nice quiet docking, 2016-02-09
Captain: , Big Bone, KY (31)

We stopped for 1 night to meet up with friends and decided stay for 3 nights. The docks are in good shape and the electric and water is good. The restrooms and showers are located in the park across the street. They are serviced on a daily basis but are in need of an upgrade and cleaning staff could be more detailed oriented.
The area was nice and quiet during the night and seemed to be a safe area. In walking distance there is a great place for burgers and steaks- Adam's Angler Reef Lounge - Heidi, Susan, and Gary the owner are very hospitable. The phone number in Yelp is not correct - it is 863-946-0118. It is not fancy but worth the stop for the burgers alone!

What a fun stop!, 2015-12-11
Captain: , Blanco, TX (420)

Seems we arrived on the day of the annual Christmas carnival and fireworks show, had a front row seat for a great show. Easy tie up to docks, 30 & 50 amp power, $1/foot. I didn't visit restrooms, but husband reported they were not dirty, just 'ok'. Unrelated here(and Jeffrey if need to delete, sorry), but a bit of trivia. Google Fred Langdale, story of local kid who had a battle with a gator, met his parents, quite an interesting stop to say the least.

Nice docks, good power, lousy restrooms, 2015-11-14
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6425)

Nice solid docks, tie off to pilings. Docks were too high for our boat, but just right for the larger boats with us. City Hall closed weekends, but someone came around to colllect fee, provide restroom code. Power was very good. Restrooms/shower was filthy. Limited restaurants in town, some closed weekends. Cafe across from Dollar General had limited menu but was good.

very convenient stop, 2015-05-08
Captain: , Knoxville, Tennessee (230)

We stayed here May 4, 2015. Great wall to tie up to with room for several boats. $1/ft which is paid at City Hall across the street. First come first serve so arrive early as the wall fills up quickly

Friendly town dock, 2015-04-16
Captain: , Trenton ON (658)

We were waiting for our trailer to be fixed and this was he perfect place to do so. Just $1.00 a foot, to be paid at the City Hall across the road. 1/4 mile to Burger King and several Dollar stores, laundromat and even a salon for a pedi.We didn't use their bathrooms so can't comment on that. Everyone is very friendly and want to chat. Free wifi from the library. Power included in the rate which came in very handy to run the air during 90f days

Great stop, 2015-04-02
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (919)

3 of us stopped Monday night. Plenty of room for us with good power and restrooms available. Not much around but had a quiet night.

Good stop over, 2015-03-13
Captain: , Key Largo (90)

Stopped here on 12-13 Mar 2015. $1.00/FT. All previous comments were correct. Save you receipt because someone will come by early evening to verify that you have paid. Bag ice at Angler's bar and drive thru liquour store a block north of Angler's

Thankful for the dock; but nothing to the town, 2015-02-16
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1120)

No one around our entire visit, so paid on the honor-system at the nearby City Hall building. Mexican restaurant was not open. Good cycling path atop the Lake Okeechobee levee, but it also had signs stating it was closed.

Plenty of room..., 2015-01-26
Captain: , Honolulu (531)

After "gunkholing" across the Okeechobee waterway, we were looking for a spot to tie up, hook up, off load trash and do some minor reprovisioning. We were the only vessel at the face dock until later that night. Electric and water, no pump out. Shower and rest room at the city park, behind the city offices. Price was right, $1 a foot in January 2015. Not much in the way of services in Moore Haven, good Mexican restaurant, great cheeseburger at local bar, if you are looking for better infrastructure, head to LaBelle.

Great spot to spend the night, 2015-01-05
Captain: , Fort Pierce, FL (10)

Docks are nice, with a good rubber cushion on the pilings, electricity, water. Showers are a bit dirty. Can walk to the very limited restaurants (one mexican, joeys pizza, burger king). Good value at $1/foot.

Good stop right before lock, 2014-12-08
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

Spent the night here after run up from Legacy, plan on using several fenders.
Office across the street took our dockage fees and were very helpful.
In the Morehaven lock be careful if your lock fills with plants and grass when the lock doors open.

On our trip through all the vegetation wrapped around the port stabilizer and rudder causing a lot of difficulty in maneuvering out of the lock.

Great stop and price is right, 2014-11-19
Captain: , Joplin, MO (90)

Great dock - easy to get to and to tie up. Only $1.00 a ft and includes electric. Pay at City Hall. We walked up to the pool hall/bar called Anglers (big yellow building) just a couple of blocks away. Nothing fancy but they had great burgers and a full bar - lots of friendly locals

Great Stop going either direction, 2014-11-17
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Staiyed again on 11-16-14 found 10' of water depth at the dock Hard to beat the $1 a foot power and water included, showers and bathrooms! Small iga grocery in town 1 mile away has closed that's about it. The Mexican Restaruant has closed on weekends. Nice folks. Verizon air card good 3 g signal. No open Wifi APs. No cleat just 6' talll piles with good rubber guards every 10' on outsdie of dock to lay up against. Dock is isn very good condition. We were at the west end of the Moore Haven City Docks (close to the Riverhouse marina). The bathrooms are public until dark when closed except access can be made via the adjcent showers which are locked with a combo lock(and inside bolt for privacy) for use by boaters. Shower is very basic but useable.

Nice place to stop but, 2014-07-09
Captain: , Corpus Christi (301)

Came in on a sunday. Found showers locked. But the restrooms were open. The next morning around 6:30 I went to use the restroom and found them locked. The info board at the dock has faded plexiglass over it and I could not read it.

Easy in and out, 2014-06-20
Captain: , St. Petersburg (749)

Face dock right on the OWW. We arrived after 6:30 so left our dock fees in an envelope drop box at City Hall. We didn't need anything but electric so this was perfect.

Nice, easy place to stop on the way, 2014-05-10
Captain: , Knoxville, TN (1788)

After an 11 hour cruising day, simply pulling up to the city docks in Moore Haven was nice and easy. Power works well. Docks are solid.
Got here after City Hall closed, so put a check in the envelope and put in night drop box.
After all the previous comments, we were anxious for a non-cooking night, so we walked down to the mexican restaurant - CLOSED on Saturday & Sunday! ARGH!! This is good to know. No where else to eat in walking distance tonight we could find.

Journey 44 ft, 3.5 draft, 2014-04-24
Captain: , lenoir city, tn (200)

Owned by city. $1/ft. Water. Electrical 220/50 and 30 amp. Garbage containers. Clean. Tall pilings which are padded. Mexican restaurant was good, nothing fancy but more than adequate. Some wake motion but nothing outrageous.

Moore Haven City Dock 21 April 2014, 2014-04-21
Captain: , Carefree Arizona (30)

Good docks as described but area is not designated as a no wake zone. Can be quite rolly with the idiots that come by. The Mexican resturant was very good and reasonable. I'm not an expert but I was raised in Arizona and lived in Mexico.

We like it here, 2014-04-11
Captain: , Wanakena, NY (588)

If you want socializing and parting, this is not the place. Go to the Mexican restaurant...don't get desert, it not homemade, but everything else is!!
Another great value.

Good one-night stopped, 2014-04-03
Captain: , Gloucester, Virginia (100)

We stayed one night. Good place for a walk and the prrice is great--$1.00 per foot which includes power and water. Do not recommend Antonitos as, while beer is cold, food has little taste--a mediocre restaurant. This is a stop that merits boat cooking.

Easy Stop - It's all about the Food, 2014-04-02
Captain: , Stuart, Florida (539)

Great stop after being held captive by the railroad bridge. Over an hour in there btw lock and bridge. So when finally hand signals btw RR bridge person (I think he got the message) and myself were understood, he opened the bridge and the city dock is just a couple hundred yards away. Fellow from city collects around dusk ($1 a foot). Electricity too. No tax.
Went to the Mexican place (Antojitos) for dinner. Food is really good. Directions listed below. Easy to find.

Good stop for a night, 2014-03-31
Captain: , St. James, NC (253)

Stopped for one night on the way to cross the lake. Nice new docks. The price is a bargain. No grocery store, very limited restaurants.

Please its all about the mexican place!, 2014-03-09
Captain: , MONARCH. COLORADO (1156)

Yes the dock is nice and big with water and electric included and no safety concerns for only a buck a foot. But really, its the mexican place that makes it a worthwhile stop. Go east under the bridge, hang a left and walk about 3 or 4 blocks to what looks like an oldfast food joint. nothing special but wow is the food authentic.

Good Stop for overnight, 2014-03-04
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1523)

Nice long wide face dock. No help tying up, but only $1/'. Safe and secure, but not a place you would want to stay long term.

great for a night, 2014-02-19
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (570)

Very nice fixed dock. Although there is no one to help with lines it is very easy to slide in and loop the piling. We paid in City Hall at 8:00 when they opened for the morning.

good for a night, 2014-01-19
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1663)

Stopped as we were crossing to Stuart for night. Peaceful side tie. One power pedestal did not work but others did. Had 30 and 50 amp. Quiet safe area, with picnic tables and bar-b-que grills right beside dock. Good water, can just stop and fill up with water and move on . No one one site to help tie up or check in. We were awaken at 715am by the collector to collect the $1/ft overnight charge. Within 1/2 mile of Moore Haven lock. City Hall right across the street. Limited shopping within 1 mile. Good bike riding along the Lake Trail atop the dyke about 1 mile away. Slow wake zone , not much traffic none at night. Some locals use the barby and tables. Side ties , no tide. Easy in easy out. Great for our Power Cat

A great stopover on an Okeechobee Crossing, 2014-01-14
Captain: , Jacksonville, Florida (311)

Large face dock with padded posts. Easy arrival and departure. At $1 ft including electricity and water, it is a tremendous value. Large restrooms, but only one shower for men and one for women. The showers were large, but could use some updating. Ate at the local Mexican Restaurant which was very authentic, friendly, tasty but not too fancy. City Hall is across the street. The people were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stop over again.

Good stop, great value, 2013-12-29
Captain: , Edenton, NC (887)

Dec 2013 update: The IGA grocery store is closed. Library has free wifi that can be picke up if you dock close to the library and have a wifi amp. Remains a great value and a good place to stop.

Good stop, great price. Docks are in good shape. One thing to know before arrival, no cleats on dock, you must tie to some rather tall pilings and no one is there to assist. Not much to the town (thus 4 not 5 stars) but we were there on Xmas and were invited to a dinner in the park.

Nice place, but shopping limited, 2013-12-02
Captain: , Miami (71)

The IGA was closed down when we stayed there. A local says that they have opened and closed then opened again throughout recent years.

Cannot Beat It, 2013-10-29
Captain: , Auburn, Maine (396)

Very nice, very inexpensive fixed dock, with power, for a buck a foot. Pleasant attendant visited the boat after hours to take payment and write a receipt. Nice park like surrounding area for a walk, extremely quiet town. No current or traffic after 1900, when lock shuts down. Adequate toilet/shower facility, not locked when we visited. Only downsides were no shopping or restaurants, and some fairly brutal mosquitoes after dark. Would stay again, gratefully.

Cant beat it with a stick, 2013-10-26
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4176)

For $1/ft incl electric and water, this is the place. Nice dock, close walking distance to things in town. Lots of grass and a park to run the dog. They have picnic tables with grills. The Mexican restaurant is open but closed on weekends. We walked all the way to the end of Main St to the IGA market...about 20 min walk. Had dinner at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a private club of locals but friendly and welcomes boaters. They have bar food but good and reasonable (ie cheap). We had two fish sandwiches with 2 salads, 2 iced teas and the bill was $13. Why make the little woman get dishpan hands when you can do it for $13? This town is full of really friendly folks. Everyone in the Eagle club spoke to us.
You pay for the dock at the city hall right across from the dock. At night and weekends, a security guy comes by and you can pay him. If you miss him, call the city hall on Monday and give them your credit card.
This will be our REGULAR stop from now on!

Great suprise of an old town, 2013-07-27
Captain: , Anna Maria Island (462)

We really enjoyed staying here, a nice layover. Not much in town however the legion has a nice dinner if you catch it on the right day. We have stayed here three times and each time enjoyed it. Don't expect anything more than a dock and a place to walk and you will enjoy your stay.

A good find, 2013-07-24
Captain: , St. Augustine, Florida (246)

As the others explain, all is good for the price! A dollar a foot, no noise at night, asked about safety and was told there is no issue and found it to be very true, quiet calm and cheap, works for me!

A Very Nice Stop Before the Lake, 2013-04-18
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1696)

We were suprised that the dock was empty when we arrived. They are in great shape. Easy hop to the lock when you leave. The night guard is kind of surley when he knocks on your door to collect if you didnt pay at the city hall. No problem though. Good stop.

Moore Haven City Dock, 2013-02-09

Easy side tie-up on a good dock with water and electric. Showers are across the street. Library also across the street with wi-fi. Friendly and help staff at library and city office across the street from the dock. Bike or walk to IGA food store north along main highway. This can be a good stop before or after crossing the lake going east or west.

A grocery store!!, 2013-01-20
Captain: , Bohemia River, Md (184)

We like staying at the City's $1.00/ft, and this is the first year we discovered the new supermarket! It's six blocks up between the water tower and the highway at the Citgo station! Easy docking here, and power/water.

Nice dock, not much close by, 2013-01-14
Captain: , Buffalo (1144)

Dock is in excellent shape, with water and power, but there is not much around. The closest restaurant that is still open is Berger King, about 1 mile away. Still, this is an excellent overnight stop if you don't need to shop for supplies.

Nice stop and convenient, right on the waterway, 2012-12-26
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

We docked here for 2 nights on the weekend. Very nice docks, power, and water. Convenient to town but probably need a bike if you want groceries, post office, family dollar store, etc. All of those are on the north end of town. Friends recommended the Moore Haven restaurant under the bridge but we never made it by there. The guy mentioned in the previous posts came by both evenings to collect the fee. He had an ID and wrote us a receipt that looked official.

Nice, Quiet Dock, 2012-12-24
Captain: , Louisville (291)

We stopped here last week as the community was hosting its "Xmas on the Caloosahatchee" celebration. Great food and fun, right off the dock. This is a no frills, $1/ft deal. Not much nearby, other than a gas station, and the Elks, and Moose clubs. A gentleman stopped by to collect the fee, and we told him we had paid earlier at the City Hall office. He did not ask to see a receipt, which made me suspect he may NOT have worked for the City......

Good overnight stop, 2012-12-13
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

We spent one night here in early November 2012 as we were crossing from east to west. Great overnight stop, and quiet. We arrived after the office had closed, but a man came by the docks around 7 pm collecting fees from the three boats that were there. Good power (use used one 30 amp), easy dog-walking. Can't beat it for an easy overnighter right on the east/west route.

Small Town Florida, 2012-12-10
Captain: , Orlando. Fl (30)

Well maintained docks and services. Water coming out of the hose bibbs was a little funky. Shower and toilet facilities were acceptable. Funniest thing was that we were walking thru town at 8PM right in the middle of the street and never moved for a passing car!! The town is queit, the bridge is a bit noisy. Great place to stop on the way thru the OWW.

Quiet place to spend an evening, 2012-10-21
Captain: , Palmetto (412)

The city docks are in good condition and offer 30/50 amp service and water; however, they are quite high off the water making it difficult to %u201Cstep-up%u201D to the dock from some boats. When we were there, City Hall was tented for fumigation so we had no opportunity to check the heads or any other facilities. A nice grassy area is adjacent to the docks making for a great dog walk area.

I'd be happy to stop here again, 2012-09-04
Captain: , Johns Creek, GA (228)

Nice Dock, laid back setting, paid with credit card at city office across the street. No super market, but fresh produce and a laundramat a short walk away.

Nice Quite Spot, 2012-06-16
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Perfect. Place your $1.00/ft in door slot across the street if after hours. Make check out to city.

Moore Haven City Dock, 2012-05-28
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

The rating and description in the Waterway Guide must be old! The facilities are very good for a small town. Good sturdy fixed dock with thick rubber fendering on the pilings. Must tie to pilings as there are no cleats. Water, electric, restrooms (across the street) are included in the $1.00/foot.
Lightly used highway bridge nearby gives very slight noise, but not objectionable.

Good place to stop when crossing Lake Okechobee, 2012-03-09
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (329)

We have stopped at the Moore Haven City Docks three times when crossing Lake Okeechobee, twice going east to west and once going west to east. It is a good location for stopping and you can%u2019t beat it at $1.00/foot which includes water and electricity. Not much near the docks other than a small thrift store and a library. It is an easy tie up at the alongside dock with tall well-padded piles.

One-horse town with excellent dock, 2012-02-05
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (250)

Long face dock, well padded. Must tie to high pilings.
No credit cards.Nice man comes by in a golf cart or truck and will take a check or cash. $1/ft includes good water and electric.
Did not use bath facilities, understand they are across the street by library. Lovely clean little "almost ghost town"-such a shame.

good stop for the night, 2012-02-03
Captain: , Westport,Ma (700)

a buck a foot pay at the city hall office across the street. Quiet not much happening,.

Moorehaven City Docks, 2012-01-16
Captain: , Key Largo (5304)

The docks have been rebulit, new in May o8, library is on site. Nothing much in town, one grocery store to walk to north west of Docks. Good for an overnite, thats about it.
Be ready, you may get waked!
There is an aligator that will come to your boat begging for food.
$1 a foot in fall 08, pay in city bldg by docks
He (the gator) likes chocolate chip cookies.

A Star each for value, convenience & well fendered pillings., 2012-01-09
Captain: , Pinnacle, NC, USA (1340)

Standing in the cockpit of my 25' pocket trawler, I'm chest high to a fine dock in 10' of non-tidal river at a 40 degree heading. Current seems neglidgeable leaving wind & direction to consider as a docking issue. Five inch thik cushion fenders have been attached to the pilling face extendig from 6" above the water 10' high, accomodating a vast range of boat sizes. As others have observed, there are no cleats, leaving only the pillings to tie up to and lassoe on arrival.

Nice Dock but nothing else., 2011-11-12
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

If you are just looking for a nice place to tie up for the night, this is it. Dock is in great shape, alongside tie, pilings well padded. Good electric and water. Nothing in town.

good but not great, 2011-10-27
Captain: , Houston, TX (114)

Good fixed dock with good bum[ers on the dock face pilings. Stable electric and good water for $1 per foot/night utilities included. Can't beat the price and peaceful but the stores nearby have all closed and a 5 block walk for minimal restaurants. Easy in and out with 11 feet of water at the dock.

Moor Haven, 2011-05-18
Captain: , Hudson (274)

Easy in and easy out. Great prices and nice facilities. Friendly town with easy walk for shopping.

alternative to dolphins, 2011-05-05
Captain: , Knapps Narrows Md (450)

We tried to tie to dolphins but after 3 attempts in 15knot wind we opted for the city dock. Nice dock with good bumpers. Showers, power(30 and 50) and water for $1/ft. Fairly quiet and relaxing

$ 1.00 a foot tax inc, 2011-01-25
Captain: , brewerton ny (303)

Not a bad little town.....very nice folks. BK, grocery store,Mexican rest. all within walking. No charge for power, charged 1.00 ft tax incl.Nice fixed along side dock, 300 ft or so. 50/30 amp

Good for a night!, 2010-11-12
Captain: , Fosters Point, Random Island, Newfoundland (82)

Have stayed there twice and the price is right. thought we would be rocked to sleep by boat traffic but it was not a problem. Showers and washroom facilities were decent.

A Bargain at Moore Haven, 2010-04-09
Captain: , Deale, MD (160)

A great place to tie up for the night when making the passage across the OWW. Docks are new with fendered pilings. Water and 30 or 50 amp service is included with the bargain price of $1.00/ ft. Minimal noise from the adjacent highway bridge. Arrived late so did not have a chance to explore the town's offerings.

Just a place to stay. Nice little mom and pop mexican place to eat close, under the overpass down past the little bar. Not worth the $2 a foot!

Good new docks, good power and water. $1/ft. Collecter came by and did not believe us when told our boat length. Only time this happened to us! Not anything close and no restuarants near.

Captain: , fairland (2653)

The city dock is about 300' long, has 30 and 50 amp and water. The town ain't much, but after the west side of the lake, this is heaven!! The Spanish Restaraunt is now a soul food restaraunt. Cheap and interestng food. Scary walk frm the dock, they will come get you if you call....
