Reviews for Montrose Harbor
Montrose weekend, 2016-08-28

Montrose harbor has excellent dockage, and the harbor master and staff are always very accommodating. It's the only Chicago harbor I stay in.

wonderful weekend, 2016-08-22

Friendly people, clean restrooms, nice location.

never again, 2016-08-22

Of you like loud dock parties and dirty washrooms, this place is for you. Fairways were also to narrow for our boat. We should not have been given a slip on that dock. Only good part was location .. Lincoln Park.

Why stay here?, 2015-07-26
Captain: , South Haven, MI (40)

The good: location, friendly people.
The bad: old docks, dirty, crowded, expensive.
The only reason to pick Montrose is it's location. Otherwise, just skip it. The facilities (bath, shower) are old and dirty. The docks are old and every seasonal has set up a table, grill, chairs etc leaving little space on these old, narrow docks.

No diesel, under-staffed, poor power, plenty of spiders., 2013-09-07
Captain: , Bluffton, South Carolina (327)

Spent a week here as we were visiting family in Chicago. Luckily we did not have to stay on the boat. Tried power at four different slip locations and could draw no more than 200 V. Could either run the refrigerator or the AC, but not both. Had to find our own slip when we arrived as no one was around to answer the phone (13 calls) and no one monitored the VHF. Hundreds of spiders every day. Local slip owners very friendly, but we would not return. Run by the Park District. Understaffed and not very clean. Your government at work.

Great for Transients, 2012-06-11
Captain: , Dyer, IN (21)

Stayed there over night. Nice slips with power and water. Long walk to club or to office. Was about $70 for the slip. Nice clean bathrooms with showers. Close to downtown to have a quiet or loud evening. Fisherman outside on breakwalls almost all day and night, but were fairly quiet. Breakfast at yacht club was good and cheap. Every one was very friendly. Dont hesitate to stay here.

Montrose for visitors - help getting around, 2011-01-11
Captain: , Chicago Montrose (36)

Fine location for locals. Minimal interest and facilities for visitors, although no real drawbacks.

Recent upgrades to showers and toilets is welcomed, although overdue. Management changes seem to have resulted in some improvements. Annual users are looking forward to having more fees invested back into the facilities. This is ongoing.

Pump out at dock on north bulkhead, and at end of dock in center of harbor. Showers and toilets on dock at eastern end of harbor.

Ice at bait shop, north side of harbor, behind the small yacht club. When open, also ice and snacks at hut on east side or harbor.

Visitors will find the location a rather significant distance from downtown attractions (if on foot), but with good views of the city and a well protected location. Other than power, water, toilets, and showers there are essentially no other services or food.

However... A short walk will provide access to city bus service to the Loop and other downtown locations. See:

Visitors can also walk west on Montrose Ave for about four blocks to Broadway Ave. and reach a substantial grocery & drug store, also selling packaged alcohol. At that intersection there are also some minor restaurants or grills, a bar or two, and a new Target for other sundry items. A few quite nice restaurants can be reached with another 5-10 minutes walk.
(Marigold Indian, Magnolia, Anna Maria's)

Bike rental is also available on Broadway, just up the street close to Wilson Ave.
