Reviews for Montego Bay Yacht Club
Quality stop, 2016-03-02
Captain: , Liverpool UK (30)

We anchored in the bay and paid $10 per head to use the excellent facilities. They organised the formalities for checking in and out, had excellent wi-fi, nice club house, pool, showers, sport on TV, dinghy dock etc. The restaurant was excellent and obviously a destination in its own right. Top notch supermarket for provisioning 20 mins walk away or short taxi ride.

Not great but nice., 2015-08-13

Hits: The staff are the best thing about the MBYC, all friendly, helpful & curtious, including the restaurant & bar staff. Another hit was the Friday Night Buffet, $27US/pp. C and I does the formalities right in the club, easy and fast. Decent soaking pool and clean bathrooms, well appointed, but little (or none) hot water.

Misses: no room at the dock for catamarans and prescious few for monos, no moorings available. Holding is poor except in the basin which is jam full of local and tourist-support boats (traffic).

The club use fee was $10US+17%tax/pp/day.

Long way to shopping and restaurants, other than the excellent Boathouse Grill.

Diesel and water at the end-tie.

Great place, although food is only so-so at the club, 2015-02-15

It's a mixed bag as far as quality, but really nice people. Showers started out pretty dry and cold, but it was because all the shower heads were plugged by precipitate from the hard water. I scraped the heads with my fingernail and the unclogged, producing a respectable volume of water. They take about 5 minutes before the warm water reaches the showers, so ultimately we were taking very pleasant showers. The pool is quite nice, if small. Dockmaster (Dawson) is professional and prompt, and happy hour makes the drinks relatively affordable. Facilities cost is now $10 a day plus 16% sales tax. Heather is VERY helpful with anything needed (customs/immigration). The best deal I found for a taxi was to just walk out of the club and flag down a "route taxi); while the club quoted 3,000 JMD for a ride to the airport, I got there for half that with a route taxi. For food, possibly the best chef on the island is at the Houseboat, about a mile from the Yacht class food at fairly reasonable prices.

Long expensive taxi ride to town, 2014-01-16
Captain: , vashon is (100)

Dockmaster David is excellent, as are the other staffers. No ice available, so if you need ice, it's an expensive taxi ride to town, so you might as well make the rounds and get groceries. Typical taxi fare was USD$25. Mr Lee offered me deals several times -- only $20 -- which was substantially below the going rate. Very good grocery store (though I liked the quirky Kamal's in Pt Antonio better), but prices were high for the many imported items they carried.

Laundry is USD$10 to wash and dry a load, as the yacht club doesn't have a washer or dryer on premises, nor do they have a dock cart.

Restaurant on premises is generally quite good.Try their daily specials. The yacht club may offer a temporary membership. Look into it to determine if it makes sense. My understanding is that restaurant prices are substantially less if you're a yacht club member, and marina rates -- not bad to start with, I believe USD0.85/' -- may be discounted.

A Great Place to Chill, 2013-04-12
Captain: , Sydney Australia (151)

A really friendly place to visit,Med Moor or anchor in the adjacent bay depths approx 9 metres.
Good WiFi is included in the anchoring fee of $6.00 / person / day
Terrific Resteraunt & Bar, great staff
Brenton is the taxi driver to get
You are far enough out of town to avoid the spivs
Best of all, they all speak English
