Reviews for Midway Marina and Motel
nice place to stop and pet friendly, 2017-06-27

This is a nice place to stop especially if you have you pets. This place is very pet friendly and the staff will help you as much as possible.

No Prime Rib, But Just Fine, 2017-05-07
Captain: , Annapolis (50)

We had a reservation for Coinjock Marina. Late in the day two VA bridges announced they were closed due to high water. Coinjock was filled up, but we were able to get a slip at Midway. Very nice people. Easy tie up. Good price. No prime rib, but good dockage and service.

Owner's there again this year courteous and friendly, 2017-01-09
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1084)

2017 Dec01 Always a good familiar stay with Terry & Sharah, although they want to lease-out the marina, so he and his wife could stop working so much. Come in tie up and make paymet when they show up around 4-6 pm. No real supplies in the store and the pumpout is not working, due to the former marina management not taking care of the equipment. Although Terry is not always available Midway Marina's docks are in sound condition, there's often other boaters to help you tie up. The marainas has full docking on the face wall most nights. The larger boats usually tied up across on the other side. But midway had plenty of business and the (next door) restaurant's Crabbies menu looked very inviting.

Long Facing Dock, 2016-11-12
Captain: , Bear, DE (560)

Grounded and needed a tow. Coinjock Marina was full. Midway was to reserve a space for us on their facing dock. When we arrived, there was not enough room for us on the dock. We were directed to a dock on the opposite bank for the night. Terry came across the channel to help us dock. Charged us $40 cash for dockage. No facilities where we docked. Worked for us. Better than $60 across the channel at Midway Marina. We only needed a place to tie off for the night. Also, put us on the side of the Coinjock Marina where we wanted to be in the first place.

Not a bad place to stop, 2016-11-07
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (559)

Stopped here on 11/5/16. Easy access right off the ICW with plenty of water. The dockmaster and his son were there to help us tie up. The ship's store had a fair inventory of parts and supplies. The heads/showers were clean and adequate. The laundry room could use some freshing up but it was clean. This marina has a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see how the new owners develop it. We'd be agreeable to staying here again.

Sale Pending, But Still Operating, 2016-11-04
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

We stayed one night early November. The restaurant is closed, fuel operation shut down, store sparsely stocked. Terry, an owner told us the marina was scheduled to be sold two months ago, sale had been delayed but was soon to conclude.
He was quite helpful with tie-up. The dock looked to be in need of some maintenance, but not dangerously so. Bathrooms were clean. There are two small basins, in addition to the face dock, for longer term stays. Transient rates were $.25/ft less than Coinjock Marina, but we think should have been less, considering the bare bones situation.
With some renovation and new owners, this marina can again be a good option in a busy spot.

I'll never stop here again, 2016-06-18
Captain: , Annapolis, Md. (10)

We are heading North and Coinjock Marina was full so we stopped at Midway "Marina". This is not a marina it's a rickety old dock with nails popping out. No provisions or fuel. It can only offer power and a tie up. There was a 2 step boarding step on the dock right at my portside gate. My 74 year old brother, with stern line in hand, stepped on the boarding step and it slid away from the boat as if on ice. My brother fell between the boat and dock into the water. There was no ladder for him to use to get back on the dock so we had to look for one. The dock guy found a 6' ladder but it was too short to touch bottom so my brother, partially in shock, had to squeeze through some slimy boards into a small boat launch area where he could use the step ladder to get out. I said to the dock guy that step should never have been on the dock in the first place and he just sort of shrugged it off. He was not very concerned about what had just happened and was not apologetic at all. The next morning I awoke to knocking on the boat. It was the dock guy with a shotgun in hand and told me I was going to hear a loud gunshot. He then shot a 4-5 ft water moccasin at the dock right beside the boat. This place is a dump and I will never recommend it or stay here again.

Sad but true, 2016-06-05
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

We have been stopping here for years and although the staff is excepionally friendly, the place has gone down hill.
This May, when we docked, there was no fuel, Crabbies was closed, the store stock was nowhere to be seen and the mens head was filthy.
On top of that, we had called ahead and were told although no car available they would take us to the supermarket upon arrival. Yippee! Well the reality was they took the crew to a gas station that had snacks, saying they didnt have time to drive to the supermarket. :-(
After asking around we found out the place had been sold and they were just bidding their time.
We can only hope the new owners bring the place back up to its former well loved status.

will stop here again, 2016-05-24
Captain: , Pensacola, Florida (90)

stopped on a Sunday, dock hand expertly tied us up. the price is much better then across the river. not much left of the marina, but they were opening the pool and are waiting for a chef to arrive for the new owners of the restaurant. this is a great overnight stop, new electric hookups, bathrooms/showers have been upgraded and are clean. very safe and quite

Second time here for a reason, 2016-04-23
Captain: , Solomons, MD (271)

We are making Midway our marina of choice in Coinjock. The owner is teriffic and very helpful in getting the boat tied for the changing current. Crabbies next door is a bright and welcoming atmosphere with southern courtesy. Good food on top of that! Can't beat the prices for dockage or at Crabbies.

First Time Here Was Worth It, 2015-11-25
Captain: , Annapolis (434)

We stopped here in early Nvember for the first time to try something different from Coinjock. This isn't the big commercial bussines that Coinjock Marina is but it offers all the conveniences on a smaller scale. The docks are in good shape. The women's head was being renovated and the men's head was fine. We ate at Crabbies Restaurant onsite and were pleasantly surprised by the service, friendliness and food. We'll be back.

Nice owners, fine stop, no fuel, 2015-11-10
Captain: , Alameda (667)

Called by phone early in the day, then as we were getting close. Met on the dock by Sarah. Nice people here, the dock is in good condition, good electrical, 30 & 50. $6 for 30A, $9 for 50A, $1.50/ft overnight. Minimal supplies in the store. Fuel pumps were not working. Overall marina is in good shape, clean but older facilities.

Don't pass this up!, 2015-11-06
Captain: , Springfield, VA (130)

Easy in with plenty of dock space. No jamming and the dock assistance was perfect. The owner Terry and his staff are very hospitable and welcoming. Crabbies restaurant, with a full bar, was most enjoyable with friendly and efficient wait staff.

Very Pleasant Stopover, 2015-10-21
Captain: , Breckinridge, CO (30)

This was our first visit to Midway Marina and we were pleasantly surpirised. Terry, the owner was there to greet us with a warm welcome upon our arrival. He could not have been nicer throughout our stay. Because we arrived later and had a tiring day we decided to eat at Crabbies and boy were we in for a treat. Everything we had was homemade and cooked to perfection! The desserts were made by Terry and his wife and they were exceptional! We would go back again just for the desserts! It is a three star facility, however due to the restaurant and hospitality we received from Terry, we are giving it a four star.

Not fancy, but great hospitality, 2015-10-14
Captain: , Little River, SC (754)

I have to give this marina 5 stars based on ease of acess (a long wall right along the ICW), great hospitality (owner Terry is one of the friendliest and nicest marina owners I've come across) and a nice, homey restaurant (Crabbie's Bar and Grill) with great food and great prices. A beautiful, quiet, laid back community on the ICW, I highly recommend a stop over here.

Down Home Hospitality, 2015-10-09
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (456)

Our first visit here but defintely not our last. The very warm and friendly atmoosphere is compelling. Sadly, not many places like this left. If you are looking for luxory amenities, this isn't your place. But service was excellent and amenities adequate. Carbbies restaurant is a treat.

Owners couldn't be nicer, 2015-10-09
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (30)

The couple that owns this marina are some of the kindest people we have met. They were prompt answering our calll for a dock for the night and accomadated our 37 Sea Ray immediately. There is no doubt the marina is older than the marina across the way, but the care the owners give to their customers can't be beat. I personally witnessed this owner call back a very large sailing vessel of non-profit perfomers that couldn't afford the dockage fee. With storms in the forecast, the owner told his wife what happened and they hailed them on the radio and offered their own home's dock for the night. Not many business owners nowadays would do that! I for one will definitely stop here to support this local business and its kind owners.

Easy in and out, a good stop, 2015-08-30
Captain: , Rochester, NY (101)

We stopped in to measure our mast before trying out the 64' bridge at the end of Alligator River. The long dock makes for easy access. The owner was very pleasant and helpful.

Laundry is $1/load. They have a small pool, and a restuarant that is frequented by locals on site.

The wifi worked, which was rare for us along out journey so far.

Close to town, 2015-08-25
Captain: , Oriental, NC (231)

No fuel available, and there will not be in the future, the owner told me, because the distributor sets unattainable sales quotas. The place is indeed in need of repair and maintenance. We chose to stay here because it is on the side of the ICW with a good BBQ restaurant and a hardware store. I kind of like the casual, laid-back way the owner runs the business.

Poor condition, 2015-08-18
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (184)

We've stopped here on our way north/south for many years. The place has decayed more and more each visit. It's sad really because it wouldn't take much to make it better. Granted the docks are not in great shape, altho they are ok. But they could mow the grass, get rid of all the bugs and spider webs (there are so many it is really disgusting), and paint their sign and it would cost them practically nothing. As much as I like to support the little guy I may have to go across the water to Coinjock Marina next time. I hope the owners read this.

Inexpensive and an excellent restaurant, 2015-08-07
Captain: , Beaumont, TX (669)

This marina is super easy to get into, just pull off to the side. The attendant was immediately available on channel 16 and helped us tie up. The restaurant was clean, well decorated with a very friendly and attentive wait staff. The chef recommended the crab cakes either Key West Citrus or Bay seasoning style! I tried them both. Resonably priced, super clean washrooms, and the best crab cakes in the area. On top of that unlike the larger marina across the ICW they don't come out and measure your boat to include the bow sprit and swim platform in the overnight charge. $1.50/foot with free 50 amp if you are an MTOA member. A very large grass area for dogs to run and a super clean pool. Give these locals a try. You will enjoy it.

Cheap, easy overnight, 2015-06-10
Captain: , Georgetown, South Carolina (91)

Yes, they are hard to get ahold of, but it is a super easy place to dock by yourself. Dockage is only $1.00. An older couple struggling to get by--so if you are just looking for an easy overnight stop, give them a try.

Not fully operational, 2015-05-29
Captain: , Oriental, NC (151)

BJMcL Oriental, NC 5-28-15
No one answered the numerous radio calls made. Approached the fuel dock anyway, and no one came out from office. Upon checking in I learned that they no longer sell diesel..

A good stop, 2015-05-21
Captain: , Port Credit (40)

Perfeclty good stop a litlle lesser price than across at Coinjock Marina but no restaurant at this point. Washrooms and laundry clean and pool avaialble.
Keep the litle guy alive!

very charming place, 2014-12-13
Captain: , Santa Maria CV (415)

We wanted to stop here just to get some water, diesel and pump out. Diesel was not available, but we were told directly on VHF. We found very Helpful staff. The marina was much appreciated and we stayed for one night. Very Clean bath rooms and good facilitys. Only a short distance to walk to shopping, post office and restaurants. In the marina there are some hardware and fishing accessories. Too bad the Crabbie's Bar and Grill had closed on that day. We will try it next time. What we have seen - we realy recommend it.

Nice little marina, 2014-11-17
Captain: , Kingston, NY (190)

The friendly staff was at the dock to help tie us up when we arrived. We enjoyed a nice dinner at the onsite restuarnt which was very resonably priced. In the morning, they provided pumpout services prior to getting underway. Great stop for an overnighter.

Friendly Marina, 2014-11-15
Captain: , Newport (30)

Friendly service, came right out to help us tie up and even drove us to the hardware store! Warm, clean bathrooms and great food at Crabbie's (terrific crab soup).

The only negative I would say is that although we picked up a strong wifi signal from the marina, it was so slow we couldn't really do anything with it. But we didn't inquire about it so it may have been an error on our part (or a limitation of the local ISPs).

Very friendly, 2014-11-06
Captain: , Galena, MD (80)

We usually stay at Coinjock Marinia but it was full or wanted to raft us. We called Midway and they were very accomodating and helpful. They were good at helping us tie up. We ate at the restaurant and they were so appreciative of our business and the food was very good. The only negative was the docks need some work.

If you can get past the Bates Motel Vibe this is a great place to stay!, 2014-10-25
Captain: , Southport, NC (523)

Reasonable rates, friendly staff, clean restrooms and a good bar/restaurant. Good VZW cellular coverage. Looks a little scary and I was waiting to find Norman in the restrooms, but all in all a good stop for the night and to get a good meal. Crabbie's service was very friendly. Shrimp, fries, and cheeseburgers were all very good. Bathroom could use a redesign for more privacy and to not have to lock everyone else out or take your chances with Mr. Bates.

Great stop, 2014-10-12
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (391)

We've been stopping at Midway for 12 years. You can'nt beat Crabbies resturant. As a previous review said, good food for decent price. The lightly fried oysters are the best I've ever had. Both the docks and the resturant are cheaper than across the ICW. Bathrooms are good but just not laid out well. Just lock the door when you shower.

Crabbie's for dinner, 2014-06-20
Captain: , Fernandina, FL (448)

We tied up at Coinjock Marina across the canal but wanted to get the dingy out so went to Crabbie's for happy hour and ended up staying for dinner. Food and service both very good. Might try the marina next time.

Our kind of place, 2014-05-28
Captain: , Ann Arbor, MI (84)

A friendly and economical alternative to the place across the canal. Great food at the restaurant, including the best crab soup I have ever tasted. This is a family owned place, and they treat you like family. If you like fancy and expensive, stay on the other side. But if you like quality for a decent price, this is your place.

S/V Bel Canto

One of the best kept secrets in NC., 2014-05-13
Captain: , Hampton, VA (90)

It%u2019s on the west side of the canal, across from Coinjock Marina. They may not have the big restaurant but Crabbie%u2019s next to the marina has one of the best cheeseburgers you will ever find along the ICW on the east coast. The prices are better than across the way, the bathrooms are some of the cleanest, ranking along with Thunderbolt in Savannah, GA, and the people are extremely friendly.

Never again, 2014-04-17
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (380)

I really wanted to like this place, and figured they needed the business. I'm generally not hard to please, but I called for a reservation and they acted like all was well....still no fuel, store was closed, restaurant was closed, and to top it off there was no water on the dock (this was April 12 - there was water across the way). Don't think I'll be back.

Beyond the call of duty, 2013-11-05
Captain: , west virginia (10)

We originlly planned to stay here for a night on the run down to the sound. Strong northerlies postponed that to two days. We eventually pulled out and headed south only to hit a sand bar at 141. Not having toboat us etc we called the marina to recover us. They were there within the hour and the charge was very reasonable. We are now back at the marina ro sort out finances. The staff bend over backwards to assist in any way possible and the facilities are excellent. clean bathrooms and showers. Laundry and "Crabbies" is an excellent bar with both good food and drink.
I may be biased because of the way we were looked after but I cannot rate this marina highly enough.

ON THE WAY BACK, 2013-11-02
Captain: , KEYPORT, NJ (94)

Sandy did a number on this place, but they are recovering slowly. The docks are clearly in better shape than in the spring of 2013, and while there is still no fuel, the outlook is brighter as they continue to improve. The good rate, the helpful staff, the fun restaurant, the easy access all add up to a fair deal.

Improving, but more to do, 2013-11-01
Captain: , Portsmouth, Va (174)

Right on the ICW, with easy docking if you are on the face dock. Bathrooms were clean, but could use an update. Repairs to south face dock almost complete and but are usable. The fuel service is still not available yet.

Everything that a cruiser needs, 2013-10-24
Captain: , New Hamburg, NY (140)

Easy access on the ICW, with easy docking and pleanty of water. Friendly and competent staff. Restaurant on premises. If the flounder is offered, that is the meal to get. Bathrooms could use an update. Not the newest facility, but has everything that a crusier needs.

Very friendly, clean and comfortable., 2013-10-24
Captain: , Kingston, Ontario (1970)

Folks here super helpful and friendly and appreciative. Restrooms spotless and roomy, inexpensive laundry.
Crabbies grill great seafood and superior service. Work ongoing with improvements. Better deal than x the canal.

Needs attention, but OK, 2013-10-05
Captain: , Sea Cliff, NY (1075)

We stayed here because it is less expensive than the alternative, and we usually eat on board. Dave the dockmaster was very polite. With some minimal work, the appearance of the facility could be improved 100%. Shower/Bath area was fine, but overall this marina is looking neglected and tired.

Great stop, 2013-08-30
Captain: , New Bern, NC (39)

The marina staff and restaurant staff showed wonderful service and care of their facility. They were great at tying our lines, offering to connect our power cord, showing us around etc. The swimming pool was clean and felt great on a hot day. The restaurant was very good, with basic American style food, wonderful peel and eat shrimp all you can eat special. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We had a great time and will return there next time thru. We stayed at Coinjock Marina on the way N and they had a dog that attacked our very submissive dog, plus they cost more! Midway is very dog friendly with lots of grass. You can tell they are really making an effort.

Rustic but Clean, 2013-08-22
Captain: , Rochester, NY (493)

This was a quiet place to overnight.

In spots, it looke like it's seen better days, but it also shows that someone is spending some time and money fixing it back up.

The restaurant was a special find, not to be missed!

Stayed a couple of nigths, 2013-08-19
Captain: , Sanford, Fl. (887)

Sandy did work over the docks pretty good, and there is still no fuel. But the docks are still very useable, water pressure is good and power is good. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Nice pool to take a refreshing dip. Crabbie's is awesome with reasonable prices. Scallops, fried oysters, shrimp and chocolate cake it doesn't get much better! We stopped here again on 8/17/13 as we start to head back south. I can't tell you what a treat you are missing if you don't stop and have a meal!

Crabby's Restuarant, 2013-08-01
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

We stopped there for lunch. Homemade crab corn soup was awesome. There own chocloate cake is to die for. All served up with a warm welcome smile and an open appreciation of your business.
Stopped and stayed at the marina on the way back south. Met with friendly attitude and some local info about local area. Crabby's was closed on Monday so we rode our bikes out to local BBQ place on main hwy about a mile,Wow. Well worth the ride, even on a Monday lots of locals stopping by. Food was great and got to see some of the surrounding community. Went back and enjoyed a swim and bought some shirts at good prices. Will stop here again next time, baths clean and in good working order.

Northbound Stopover, 2013-06-26
Captain: , Annapolis, Maryland (110)

Northbound stopover of flotilla with six sailboats. Dockhand Mark was quite helpful although our tight arrival sequencing overwhelmed him a bit. Good faciities but still no fuel as of 6/17. Refreshing pool a welcone site for the kids. Clean facilities. Mosquitos tough at dusk

My favorite in this area, 2013-06-03
Captain: , Wilmington DE (792)

I have stayed here at least twenty times and prefer it to the competition across the ditch. Always friendly, good weather advice etc. Food was good and reasonable at Crabby's.

Sandy caused some issues with the docks and power to the fuel pumps. As of June 3 2013, fuel was still not available. Still a good stop.

Stayed two nights, 2013-05-26
Captain: , Frisco Co (92)

Nice smaill marina. Ron the dockmaster is great. Was a port side tie up to face dock. Showers clean. Great place to walk a dog! Crabby's resturant is nice and serves good food.

No frills, no attitude, 2013-05-04
Captain: , Bear, DE (230)

Good, basic marina with super helpful staff. We stayed 2 nights while waiting for a repair part to be delivered. The fixed dock is a little worse for wear after Superstorm Sandy, but it was fine. Their fuel dock was also damaged and they currently (early May 2013) have no fuel. Call ahead for fuel status.

Midway's restaurant, Crabbies, was closed the first night. Ronnie the dockmaster took us across the canal to eat in Coinjock Marina's restaurant (their prime rib was quite good, but expensive.) Coinjock's dockmaster brought us back at the end of the meal. This is a nice service, but the Coinjock guy was unnecessarily snarky about Midway. Second night we ate at Crabbie's, which is more casual but the food was just as good.

Coinjock Marina was full both nights we were in town, and the boats were shoehorned in. Midway had much more room, so it was easy to dock and un-dock. Cheaper, too.

Best Fried Oysters of my life, 2013-03-23
Captain: , Oriental, NC (97)

2010 August: Late arrival. Friendly staff. Marina was fine. Good hot showers. Did not have time for the pool but it looked inviting. Use enough fenders as the current is strong &Tugs with barges sometimes come through in the wee hours of the morning.
Crabbys: We were ordering when the waitress suggested that if we liked Oysters, we should try their Fried Oysters so we changed our orders to both have them. Crabbys Fried Oysters were the best I have ever had! Not only were the portions plentiful, but they were quick fried in a very hot oil. Thin crispy one the outside and just cooked enough on the inside to not be classifed as raw. They were WONDERFUL! We sent our thanks back to the kitchen and, as we were closing down the dining room the cook came out to talk with us. I plan to go back and just hope that the cook is still the same wonderful person. 6 stars for the Fried Oysters.

Moving across the canal, 2013-01-20
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (435)

I have a new favorite marina (of 2) in coinjock. Same rates as the other side of the canal but MUCH better restaurant and places you can walk or ride a bike.

Great dockmaster, but limited winter services., 2012-12-06
Captain: , Hilton Head Island (86)

Great assist docking in a strong current. Dockmaster was very friendly and helpful - He deserves 5 stars. Problem is the resturant was closed and water to the docks were shut off for the winter. No oher eating options close. Coinjock Marina is 100 yards across the canal. but more than 3.5 miles to walk.

Nice, friendly marina!, 2012-10-25
Captain: , Mystic, CT (270)

Stayed here for the first time early October 2012 and the people were very friendly and the marina was in good shape. The price is less than across the river so it worked well for us. Had a nice long walk through the adjacent neighborhood. Very peaceful at night.

Great Place, 2012-10-15
Captain: , Marquette MI (190)

Friendly, helpful staff with reasonable rates. Excellent food and service at Crabby's restaurant; grab soup and crab dip nachos were very tasty. The food and service at Midway was much better than the 'other' marina across the ditch.

Good stop with no chance for anchorage for miles, 2012-10-10
Captain: , Live-a-board (350)

Dock Captain was very helpful in getting us tied up considering the current and night barge traffic. Facility is a bit rustic. Elected to bathe and use our own shower aboard as we were so far from the main building. The shower is a "one holer" so could back up with customers waiting. We needed a stop over, this worked.

Good Marina & Good Restaurant, 2012-10-08
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

This place is just as nice as the first time I came. Mark, the dockmaster couldn't be more helpful and the softshell crab at Crabbies is still 'To Die For' good.
The softshells weren't in season, but the fresh flounder and crab cakes were delicious and owner/chef Terry's chefs uniform was outrageous.

Decided to stop here thinking #2 marina would try harder. Not all bad but marina seemed in disrepair. No fuel and I understand from a local this is common now. Pool was very nice and we met some nice people from a crusing club making our visit memorable. Restroom air cond and clean.

Ron the Dockmaster made it a great stop and the pool and Crabbies cinched the deal., 2012-07-19
Captain: , baltimore md (644)

We stopped 7/18/12 and it was hot! The pool and The Restaurant Crabbies made it all worth while. We found the store well stocked even in the "off" season. Ron the Dockmaster was great. We appreciated his help and conversation. Sarah and Terry the owners are very much on hand at Crabbies, a very nice facility with very good food. At $1.50 per regiistration foot and No charge electric with MTOA membership we think it is the sensible stop in the Coinjock area. Say hi to Dixie, Sarge and Max the Dock dogs.

Great Stop!, 2012-05-25
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (326)

We like saving enough on the dock cost to buy dinner, for one! Restaurant has great food and is priced right. Shrimp and fish were cooked just right, and hushpuppies are to die for. We will be back. Last fall the restaurant was closed, so we had Thanksgiving with others at the dock. This place is a gem. Get your fuel at Great Bridge. NC taxes are horrid and you can save $0.50/gal by fueling in VA.

Always a good stop, 2012-05-13
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

Stopped 10/29/11 As usual a reliable stop 50 miles south of Norfolk. Excellent dock master to guide you with current and winds. Pleasant restaurant, good food and nice staff. Restaurant has been redone since we were there in 2009. Looks great. Less expensive prices for slip and fuel than the east side marina. Did not need to use facilties. We will return. Rate 4.5 if I could.
May 1 2012
Stopped again on our way north, disappointed the restaurant was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Don't know if this is permanent.

Midway Marina, 2011-12-04
Captain: , Solomons, MD (464)

Crabbie's restaurant closed from the week before Thanksgiving to sometime in April. Water at docks was off on our visit. Water available from one office hose only.

Nice enough to try again, 2011-11-20

Our second time here. Nice facility. Dockmaster even came down later to see if we planned to eat in the restaurant.

Great stop, 2011-11-09
Captain: , Westbrook, CT (453)

marina was clean, staff was friendly, and the price right($1.50). They opened Crabbies restaurant even though it is usually closed Tuesday night, and we sailboaters had a reasonable dinner. Interesting rivalry between Midway and Coinjock Marinas - Coinjock got the big powerboats, Midway the sailboats. I'd stop here again.

stopped on 10/23/11, 2011-11-05
Captain: , Bear, DE (255)

Convenient stopover down the ICW. Strong current but if you play it right it can be an aid to docking. Just power into it and turn toward the dock. You will slip sideways. Friendly atmosphere and great place to get acquainted with othe snowbirders.

Great Cook at Crabbies, 2011-11-05
Captain: , Winthrop, MA (896)

Fun spot to stop along the ICW. Crabbies Restaurant had entertainment on Friday Night. Easy to listen to and not so loud to chase you out. Crabbies cook came out to see how we wanted rare Prime Rib cooked. Rare is not always rare.
Met very nice and helpful cruisers and staff. The office has a small store that includes many marine products along with some provisions and clothing. Laundry was small but only $1.00 for wash and dry.

Friendly stop, 2011-11-03
Captain: , jackson, TN (884)

Always friendly with free electric for MTOA members. Fuel generally cheapest in the area. Crabbies Rest. good food and drink at reasonable prices.

midway marina loves dogs!, 2011-10-30
Captain: , Oriental NC (70)

I cruise with my Airedale "Gabe". 1st time here i saw on the menu "dog plate-free" When you eat at the restruant the owner Terry happilly bounds out of the kitchen with a platter of prime rib for the dogs! he laughs he always gets along with dogs! Food is very good, fairly priced. Burger night thursdays. Both times I was here it happened to beb burger night. Great burger, sweet potato fries among sides. I had the special,. Gabe had Prime Rib! LOL

Ronnie and Mark both are great, on the ball. Real dockmasters. I won't bother with Coinjock, I like it here. Feel like they are friends!

And yes, there is a inlet harbor here to offer protection, tho I just tie to the wall....If a boat comes thru too fast, the dockmasters are all over it! Hailing, blowing horns to slow them down...calling the CG if idiot boater doesn't yeild.

Good choice!

A New Favorite, 2011-07-08
Captain: , Kings Creek Marina (766)

Like most of us, we have usually stayed at the Coinjock Marina on the way north or south. $3.50/gallon diesel fuel prompted us to try the Midway Marina and Motel for a change. Pleasant and helpful staff, a nice tie-up, interesting people to meet, and good food will keep us coming back. We are glad we gave it a try.

Very Nice Basic Marina, 2011-07-05

Stayed on our first trip north on the ICW. The staff was very helpful. The restaurant food (scallops) was very good. I'll stay here again.

Midway Marina @ Coinjock, 2011-06-22
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (50)

This is a great marina that was recommended to us by Joe Nikola on Sea Pearl. We had always stayed at the Conijock Marina and it's a great marina. This is a great find and it's right across the canal. We will be staying here on our way back to FL in the Fall.

Good Basic Marina, 2011-05-08
Captain: , Wilsonville, AL (474)

I'm not sure why one would stay across the canal at the other marina. Midway has a protected harbor versus being right on the canal where tug wakes make life interesting. Midway is 25 cents per foot less and includes 50 amp power at no additional charge for MTOA members. I had jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat at the restaurant and it was excellent. Even the sides dishes were cooked perfectly. The dockmaster was right there to help when I arrived although it would have been quite easy to handle it alone with the calm and protected harbor. The harbor is small, but no problem turning my 32' boat around in it.

Staff was friendly and attentive; the wooden docks held my boat just fine. Did not try the wifi, or the laundry or the showers, but if I stay again, I will not make a repeat visit to the restaurant.

Marina: 3 stars. Restaurant: 1 star....

Trying Hard still some Rough Edges, 2011-05-03
Captain: , Lancaster VA (393)

We stopped here on our way north because firiends told us the marina has improved. Showers and bathroom is basic but clean. The laundry has only one working washing machine. Restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday. Marina was busy the day we stopped and the dockhand has his hands full. WiFi worked fine - we did not try the cable TV which had been down, but we were told it was working again. Staff was friendly.

One of our favorite stops, 2011-05-01
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (60)

We stopped off at Midway Marina on our way South and as promised we stopped off at Midway Marina again on our way back North. We are just as impressed as we were last fall. The dinner was wonderful. A labor of love and you can taste it in every bite. Unfortunately the cable TV was not working. It was a Sunday night and we had been looking forward to Desperate Housewives. The owner immediately offered us a key to one of the Motel rooms so we could watch it. He goes out of his way to make sure his customers are happy. Thanks Terry!!!! We will be back. We stopped here on 10/30/2010. They have on shower in the men's and women's bathrooms. The restaurant was pretty good. We liked it much better than the other side. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Captain: , Kemah, TX (30)

Superb service and care. We've been stopping in Spring and Fall for years and enjoy the easy in and out and great service while there. In spring the pool is a welcome respit from a hot day cruising. Crabbies is always excellent and this time (fall 2010) we called an order for steamed crab ahead of our arrival... they were excellent and unfortunately our last until next spring. Far superior to their only competition across the channel! M/Y MIMI

Fabulous service, 2010-10-06
Captain: , Cruising (3535)

We've been stopping at Midway for many years - it's always very welcoming and friendly and we enjoy the food at Crabbies. We came through Coinjock on a Monday in the summer months (when it's pretty quiet) and Crabbies was closed. The cook was hoping for a night off, but we understood that it costs too much to run the restaurant on an off day in the off season. The owners recommended a little Carolina BBQ place about 2 miles up the road, and then loaned us their truck so we could go there! We didn't ask them to do this - they just volunteered out of the blue. Oh, and the BBQ place was really good.

What a great spot to spend a few days! The boat was in Hatteras over the summer, stopped in Midway for a few days. Crabbies Rest. was very clean and the food was excellent. The staff is as if your at home with family. This is a definite stop again in the future.

Spent 1 night 6-6-10 Dock Master very accomodating. MTOA folks rank high at this location. Pool was great and the folks we met their very friendly. $1.50/FT and free electric. Discounts galore. Definitely stopping again on the way south. M/Y ALLEZ!

Review Up DAte 9-12-10 Came back for 2 day stay going south.
Tied up in front of Crabbies Rest and enjoyed the Friday Night Band from our upper deck. Food at Crabbies was Super. Dockmastr Ronnie was on hand to greet us and as usual we enjoyed out stay. We will be a Mid-Way MTOA Regular Custmer
when in the area.
Updated Review 9-10-10. We came back for two nights heading South. Looking forward to the Friday Night Band (Ho-Down) and partying. Still the Great Place it was Before You have to Stop at Mid-Way down to earth caring staff.

We always stay here going north or south. They are very friendly and accomodating. If you arrive late at night they will have someone on the docks to help with lines or open the store for supplies. The kids enjoy the pool and they have a nice restaurant with music on the weekends. 1.50/ft

Updated review - 5/2010...
And we stayed here again. Even though it was Monday, Terry opened up the restaurant and served dinner for the boats at the dock. Dinner was excellent - local crab, stuffed flounder, and the best conch fritters I've had (even in the Bahamas!).

Updated review - 10/2009...
We stayed here again. We were glad to see a variety of MTOA discounts - free electric and a discount on fuel. This is a very trawler-friendly marina. We also notice that there are a lot of sailboats here. We had another excellent dinner at Crabbies. Terry was cooking ribs when we pulled in and we had to have them - they were excellent. He says the secret is to steam them for a few hours first. The prime rib here is also exceptional - better than Coinjock - it's a better cut of meat and cooked to perfection.

And once again the stay here was nice. The people are friendly and everyone is helpful. If you haven't tried Midway when stopping in Coinjock, you really need to give it a try.

Review from 2007:
This is a really nice marina. They have always been helpful. You don't have to have a huge boat to get attention either. They'll go out of their way to help - stay late - pump fuel. Nice store and restaurant. Their fuel price is always competitive. We've been along this part of the ICW a few times and always stay here now. It just feels right...
