Reviews for Middle Bass Island State Park
Nice facility, quiet stay., 2015-09-21
Captain: , LaSalle MI (575)

Visited mid-October and found marina nearly empty, including staff. Granted they had little to do, called by phone an hour out and were directed to call a different number. That number answered but were given little help by mainland office as to whether there was space available. Tried VHF, no answer, entered marina and found 95% empty. Tied up in an empty slip and found staff was off cleaning winery uintil noon. Not a big deal, but just poorly run.
The island was nice but not for excitement seekers. Covered every mile of road by bike in a morning, lot's of homes and a nice ride.
Pizza at the general store is quite good. Walleys had a special wing nite on Tuesdays. Cute place.
The big draw is the protection from any storm in the marina and peace and quiet.

Worst Night Stay, 2015-08-03
Captain: , Mariner Village Yacht Club (10)

Stayed overnight and found that the marina has gone downhill. Bathrooms were filthy and no toilet paper or hand towels. At 2 in the morning a group of drunks started playing loud music and waking everyone up. There is no security on sight. I will not stay there again.

Very restful stop, 2015-07-31
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6425)

Middle Bass Isl can be very busy on weekends, especially when special events scheduled at Put-In-Bay. Arrive Sunday night or early in the week and you will have most of the marina to yourself. Marina staff answered phone calls and VHF promptly, came to dock to help us in. Floating docks solid with good cleats, as they should be as only a few years old. New marina office with clean restroom / showers. Free self-service pump out located adjacent to launch ramps. Walking distance to Put-In-Bay ferry, Walleys's restaurant. General store & Joe's Pizza are furhter but still walkable. We hitched a ride from passing golf carts. Enjoyed our stay here very much.

very quiet, 2015-07-17
Captain: , Windsor (270)

We stopped there on a wednesday. (Nothing wrong with the marina but....It was like being in a Steven King novel. No one was there!

Great Marina, Quiet and safe, 2014-09-06
Captain: , CURTICE (171)

Great Marina if you are looking for somewhere quiet. Not a party place, no booze on the docks and they like to keep it quiet and family friendly. We appreciated this, but it is not everyone%u2019s idea of a fun time.

The docks are great, with wide slips and floating docks. The facility is new and clean. Well protected from the lake. Dock numbering is a bit confusing as both sides of a pontoon have the same letter, you have to make sure you know which side of the pontoon your dock number will be on.

Rates in 2014 were $1.75/ft with a discount if you have a Buckeye card. There is a free self serve pump out. No Fuel - but it is avaliable at Put-In-Bay just 10 minutes away.

There could be more toilets and showers %u2013 as there is quite a wait on busy weekends and they don%u2019t get cleaned as often as we would have preferred.

The anti Put In Bay, 2014-08-25
Captain: , Edison Boat Club (104)

The state park is a nice place if you want to get away from the PIB craziness. The park takes quiet to heart. DO NOT play music after the prescribed quiet hour. You will be ticketed. There is NO booze allowed on the docks. Drink to your content put keep it safe and on your boat. Showers were clean the docks in good shape.

This a a great place to dock, 2014-07-21
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (72)

New, clean and wide. Very nice facilities and we dock here to go to Put-In-Bay for the day and come back in the late afternoon before it gets too crazy over there.

great staf and beautiful, 2014-07-14
Captain: , catawba island (30)

the state park marina has extra wide slips, plenty of room for 2 large beam vessels. the docks are new and floating. the state park office and shower rooms are beautiful. a great family place, much better than Put-in-bay

Quiet and beautiful, 2013-10-24
Captain: , Sandusky, Ohio (392)

Great harbor and wonderful new facilities. Golden Buckeye discount much appreciated. Love the showers, room enough for two! Makes a good jumping off point for ports to the West.

A quiet location, 2013-07-22
Captain: , Pittsburgh (513)

Completely rebuilt in the last few years and has a very pleasant staff. Becoming popular with the South Bass crowd who catch a ferry from Middle Bass to South Bass island. There is a store near the marina that can provide most provisions for a weekend.

Nice, but Could be Better, 2013-04-24
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (140)

The new marina is beautiful, especially compared to what used to be here. However, the dock rules are a bit ridiculous given that this is a State Park. Not being allowed to have alcohol on the docks, getting asked to be quiet for having conversation too late at night, not being able to play music, etc. All this leads to an un-welcoming experience. There isn't much on Middle Bass--the least they could do is offer a less strict docking experience.

Nice Clean Quite, 2013-01-20
Captain: , Lorain Oh (20)

Very nice all new and Clean, quite too

Great place, 2012-08-02
Captain: , Catawba Island, Ohio (610)

The new State marina is really nice. MBI is a nice and quiet island to explore. This marina is also a great way to visit PIB. Take the Sonny S ferrry over to PIB to go to bars and restaurants. And the end of an exciting evening, you can recluse yourself to this quiet island for a peaceful and restful nights sleep.

Excellent spot!, 2012-07-03
Captain: , Sombra, Ontario (10)

Great facility! Dock master/ office closes at 2. Great little pub across the street where the kids (or adults) can swim and mom and dad can sit. Food is good with reasonable prices but they let you use the pool either way. Golf cart rentals, mini golf. Clean showers, easy access! Highly recommended.

Nice Quiet Port, 2012-07-03
Captain: , Lakeside Yacht Club (250)

Since this marina has been re-done, the docks arnd area is very nice.
JW Walleye's is withing walking distance. Facilities were clean.

Please whisper, 2012-05-18
Captain: , Cedar Point, OH (659)

Top-notch infrastructure, with very little to do and IMO, way too much emphasis put on being the anti-PIB. A family-friendly and less-roudy alternative to PIB is a great idea, but noise violation tickets for conversation-level radio volume during daytime? Say it aint so ODNR.

Middle Bass Island State Park Marina, Lake Erie, 2011-10-19
Captain: , Lake Erie and Indian Lake, OH (40)

Visited marina twice in 2011. Excellent facilities in terms of wide slips and full electric/water. Very nice restroom/shower
facilities, and they are building a new lodge. Restaurants are close by plus a short ferry ride to Put-in-Bay. No fuel available, but there is fuel at Put-in-Bay.

Excellent state park marina with facilities, 2011-09-11
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Very nice and quiet for this time of year. Easy entrance with good depth, power, water adn brand new Bathhouse with key pad entry.
Dinghy distance to Put-in bay.

harbor center is open, not land anymore, 2011-08-09
Captain: , Detroit (720)

this old chart is now wrong. brand new dockage is great. bathroom building is a trailer, but you get your own room and it's pretty clean, save for the bunch of bugs. great to walk around and out to jetty.

Lots of Room to maneuver, 2011-08-02
Captain: , Sandusky, Ohio (21)

Nice dockage with plenty of room to maneuver in and out of spacious slips. Hazards has a nice pool to cool off and have a cocktail under the tikki bar. A quick ferry ride to Put-In-Bay. Call on channel 71 when entering the harbor and dockmaster will assign a slip and assist with docking. Good shower facilities with 4 private showers, which means you may have to wait around when the dock is busy on the weekends.

Nice marina, new, still under development, 2010-12-27
Captain: , Huron, OH (63)

Excellent docks with plenty of room. Amenities (showers etc) are temporary and OK. that aspect is still being developed. Quiet with limited recreational options.

Gorgeous marina, 2009-10-21
Captain: , Columbus, Ohio (260)

Electric is on and the facilities are top notch. Bathrooms are of hte portable type until construction is complete but still worth a stop. A great escape from Put-In-Bay

Middle Bass Island State Park, 2009-08-21
Captain: , Sandusky Bay (263)

The marina is now brand new and expanded. The state removed the little penisnula that was between the marina and the MBIYC docks. The harbor is now more than twice as large and has twice the docks available. Electric and water has been run to every slip, but not yet turned on. Once the electric and the water is ready, we'll give this area another star.
