Daufuskie Island has much history and the historical society has a map of the major landmarks. One of the historical sites is Mary Field School, a two-room school house where Pat Conroy's teaching experiences lead to his book, The Water is Wide. You can take a guided tour on a bus, rent a golf cart for a self-guided tour, or ride your own bikes. Bikers need to be aware that the only paved road runs from the marina south to the public docks. Many of the historical sites are on the sand roads, rideable but sometimes a bit soft.

Reviews for Melrose Landing Marina
It is what it is, 2016-07-18

And that's the only bar between Hilton Head and Savannah. Not a marina in any big boat sense of the word, but a friendly place. Tons of small boats tied up and folks having fun. They claim 90' is largest to tie up; come early if you need room is the advice. Good water on outer docks. Inner docks are slam crowded, so caution is the word--alcohol will probably be involved.

limited operations, 2014-05-09

This property has been through bankruptcy and appears to now be part of Bloody Point golf club. Dafuskie Landing Resort also appears to be in the new organization. We were told there are no services on the dock and boats could stay overnight only if staying in one of their rooms or cottages. Those range from $150 an night in the low season to $350 a night in hight season (summer)

A few in the marina but it appears to be private.

Did not appear to be open in January 2013, 2013-01-22

Looks very promising if it opens. Great island to visit get a golf cart and bar hop to all three bars!

Reopening November 2012?, 2012-11-03
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4015)

11/3/12 Update: The planned November date for reopening does not appear possible with no progress on maintenance. Call the listed number to determine status of the marina or to possibily negotiate a good deal on bare dockage.

The marina is in the process of maintenance in preparation for reopening, scheduled for November, 2012. Plans are to continue adding services and be a fulling function marina, with fuel, by spring 2013. The 3 stars are based on promised facilities and the fact that there are few ways to access this historic island.

Still closed, 2010-11-14

We checked in with the locals to see what was happening here. The facility has not come out of bankruptcy yet, so you can still tie up here. There are no services except a decent place to tie up. Rental Golf Carts are available to explore the island (highly recommended).

This commercial marina is not open for business. The developer is in bankruptcy. Auction expected in May 2010 is buyer does not come forward

Part of a golf resort, 2008-05-27
Captain: , Orlando (3)

Part of a large golf resort, but the marina is a long way from other facilities. You can ride the free shuttle bus, but pay attention to their schedule, or you may be waiting a long time. Nice restaurant with great steaks. Friendly & helpful staff.
