Reviews for Meldrum Bay Marina
Nice newer docks, 2017-08-20
Captain: , Campbell Creek, NC (454)

4 Transient docks, each 100' long with power and water.
NO Fuel dock, no pump out.
Laundry and bathrooms lower
Level by Marina Office. Good stop.
Meldrum Bay Inn and Restaurant was very good. Limited, but fresh menu is excellent. Key Lime Pie was the best we have ever tasted.
As others have stated, we had trouble reaching the marina; was going skip this stop, but tried one last time by phone and reached someone. We started emailing and calling 3 days in advance. Both emails were answered by auto reply, only saying someone would be in touch soon. Didn't happen. Neither morning calls were answered and no way to leave a message. Our late afternoon call the day before we wanted to arrive was finally answered.

Dock adequate, best food at inn, 2017-08-16
Captain: , Thornbury (24)

I was met at the pier, Harbour Master was extremely helpful, assisted in tie up and a quick intro to the marina.
Have space for about 16 large boats 50' +
I was told the marina was full the day before our arrival with US boat on the way home from North Channel.

Should have backed in as a chop came into the bay during the night.

The Meldrum Bay Inn is the best place for White Fish and Chips.. The batter is light and the fish is very thick, SOO GOOD. All the dishes looked wonderful.
Did not have room for dessert, but the owner gave us a slice to take back to the boat. Very good.

Great Stop on way to Drummond, 2017-07-27
Captain: , Portland, ME (240)

We almost passed this by based upon the last review. They must have arrived on a bad day. Collin met us at the pier, was extremely helpful, assisted in tie up and a quick intro to the marina.

This is basic, short walk to the marina heads and shower, clean, and open all evening. The Inn, well read the reviews below, all true.

Power on the piers, price now is 1.75 per foot. No fuel. Have not seen any pumpout availability. Not much here besides the Inn (great food) and a variety store with LCBO.

Plenty of places for the dog to run and swim. May even stay an extra day!

Out of Business, 2017-07-21
Captain: , Monticello, IN (140)

Very good restaurant, but otherwise nothing.
Marina staff only shows up when they feel like it, and have no contact information posted.

Lovely little Marina/Village, 2016-08-25
Captain: , Toronto, ON (40)

We stopped here on Aug 16, 2016. Marina staff were responsive when contacted by cell phone and VHF 68 and helpful when we got to the dock. The floating docks were newish, long, wide and easy to get into. Winds were light when we were there, but protection from all directions looked good. The crew wanted hot showers and we needed shore power so we went into the marina; however, next time we would probably anchor just off the marina. Facilities were not fancy, but perfectly adequate. We didn't use it, but laundry had two washers and two driers and prices were good. As noted in other reviews cell coverage was poor, but unlike other reviews, the Marina does have good wifi now.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner on the porch of the Old Meldrum Inn. Staff at the Inn said they welcome cruisers to use their lounge with large satellite TV and their wifi.

The LCBO and general store are still closed. A sign in the window said it would open in the summer of 2017.

We gave it the extra star due to the friendly Marina staff and for being such a quaint, pretty place and proximity to the Inn.

Great Stop but the attraction is the INN, 2016-08-17
Captain: , Traverse City, MI (95)

The fresh caught white fish and made fresh crab cakes are to die for.

The Inn is Worth the Stop, 2016-08-13
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4247)

Well protected docks in tiny, quiet town. Dinner at the Inn is enough to make this harbor a must stop. Quaint inn, run by the nicest people, with delicious dinners, served on the porch overlooking the bay and distant shores while humming birds hover by your table - it is an outstanding experience. Don't pass on dessert. They have a wide variety of all scrumptious delights. The desserts are enough to make you consider staying two nights so you can return to the inn and try more selections.

The general store/LCBO building has been sold. Locals related that the new owner plans on renovating and reopening.

Meldrum Bay is a good stop for traveling between the US and Canada. There is customs check in at Meldrum Bay for entering Canada, and Rogers City, SW of Meldrum Bay on the Michigan shore, has US Customs check in.

Nice Overnight, 2016-07-21
Captain: , N. Myrtle Beach (343)

We picked this as a good intermediate stop before heading for Drummond Island to check in. Nice protected location but the little town is struggling and the General Store and LBCO are no longer in business. We did not eat at the restaurant but heard from other boaters that it was quite good.

Beautiful green water and good depth at the docks.Great assistance on the dock. Wifi worked only at the office.

Good downbound stop before Tobermory, 2015-12-23
Captain: , Toronto (482)

I came in here for an over night on my way (downbound) to Tobermory.

I loved the town (village), there is a liquor store nearby and a really cool old inn with freidnly staff. I stayed at the Inn rather than on the boat, with cocktails on the balcony, I felt like a visitor from the 19th century- don't skip this town.

Beautiful Place, 2015-10-20
Captain: , Rockford, IL (614)

If you're looking for a dock away from it all, this is your place. Basic amenities in a beautiful setting. Walk up the hill to the Meldrum Bay Inn for dinner. You won't regret it.

In the middle of no where, 2015-08-23
Captain: , Wicomico Church (610)

We stopped before returning to the US..the water was absolutely clear.. and the restaurant was outstanding.. do get the chocolate and berry cake.. superb

quiet hamlet with great food at the inn, 2015-08-04
Captain: , Winter Park (486)

We came here with another looper boat and were met at the dock by the lone, but responsive attendant. We called ahead for reservations and email, but the cell call right after 9:00 am on the day of arrival got an immediate response. Contrary to previous posting, the Inn is still open and has been for 9 years - according to the owner. The food is excellent and a great reason for coming here - but you need to make reservation and be flexible on timing for dinner as the place is small and many come from neighboring areas to eat here. They fill up quickly.

The showers are clean and adequate, but be aware the temperatures fluctuate with toilet flushings and when laundry is being done.

The LCBO and grocery combined is closed for now due to an impending baby delivery, but they have plans to reopen for the 2016 season...please confirm in future post if you know this to be true or not.

The bay is beautiful and the water is very clear and almost emerald in color. Although this place is small it was worth the overnight stop.

This place would get a higher rating if they had WiFi and better cell coverage, which is nonexistent!

Easy docking, helpful dock staff, 2014-08-11
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

Not much in Meldrum Bay, but it was a great stop for us. Sfaff answered VHF right away, met us at the dock. Noticed they did this for every boat coming in. Clean restrooms / laundry. Small grocery store with limited stock up the short hill. Splurged on our last night in Canada for a great meal at the Meldrum Bay Inn, live music. Good place to check in with Canada Customs if coming from the US.

Pleasant & Comfortable Stop With Character, 2014-08-09
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

8-7-14 Marina Manager was prompt on phone and VHF contacts.
She met us on the Dock. She was very helpful and went the extra mile to make your stay a good one. It was a nice quiet stay. The Meldrum Bay Inn menu was not interesting at all and unimaganative and way over priced. Rest Room/Showers very clean and well keptr There is NO Current with the new Breakwater Capt Helen & Chief Engr Bob Onboard ALLEZ!

tremendous fun!, 2014-07-11
Captain: , basking ridge, nj (130)

Come here to get out of the wind in a very snug harbor. Be sure to eat at the Meldrum Bay Inn, the only game in town. The food is fabulous. We arrived in time for lunch and went back for dinner. Most boats seem to only stay for a night, so there was lots of dock chatter with new friends.

Only Reason to stop here is ..., 2013-10-15
Captain: , Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH (400)

dinner at the Meldrum Bay Inn is outstanding. The food and views are delightful. Marina - 4-5 docks, rest is shallow. But the Inn makes it worthwhile. Nothing else there.

Open for business, 2013-08-23
Captain: , Louisville, KY (80)

Dispite what is published their new docks are open with 30 and 50 amp service and great water.

Check in with Customs and have an Excellent Dinner, 2013-07-13
Captain: , Portage Indiana (503)

There isn't much here other than a customs check-in and an excellent resturaunt. (Meldrum Bay Inn) The marina went through a big improvement last year with new docks and a massive stone breakwall to protect against north winds. If you want peace and quiet you found it, but if you need to provision keep moving.

Meldrum Bay Marina, 2013-01-10
Captain: , Leamington, Ontario (710)

Town run. We were there late June, massive dock work/renovations, no power, no water, still charged full rate! Great food if you can find the restaurant open, deep water, fairly new breakwall, will be really nice when the docks are completed.

Nice Stop will return, 2012-09-26
Captain: , Conway (145)

Meldrum Bay is a nice easy stop over as you travel from the west. Check is on site (small room within the marina office area) The marina is in the process of being completely rebuilt. As of now... New bathroom/shower/;aundry building with lounge is completed and is nice. Breakwater covering the north of the marina eliminates any concerns of a North wind. New docks are great but the Aluminum tread plates that are at the head of the dock can b slippery. Marina staff made dinner reservations before I was off our boat!

Easy Marina with a good restaurant, 2012-08-17
Captain: , Bay City, MI (730)

Marina office has been replaced and the old office is being razed. Sorry, but I loved the harbor as it was. The charm is gone, but the harbor is easy and the staff was extremely helpful coming into the dock. Meldrum Inn Restaurant is a really nice stop. Owner is interesting and wants you to have a great meal.

Adequate, but not bad, 2012-08-13
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

Stayed one night. The new docks are four 100' long finger docks that are wide and sturdy. 30 amp power only...bring your long cords. The junction boxes are up on shore. We had to use one of our older cords and our two newer cords to reach the box. Make sure you do a pump out and add fresh water before you arrive. There is no fresh water at the docks. I did not see a pump out. Nice people working there. The restaurant nearby, Medrum Bay Inn is pricey but its nice. The new marina clubhouse, office and facilities is very nice. Good stop for a night or two or to wait for good weather, but thats all. The hamlet of Meldrum is a big zero.
Like I said, adequate but not bad.

Renovations nearly finished....... big improvement, 2012-08-02
Captain: , Charlevoix MI (26)

The Hamlet of Meldrum Bay has not changed in 40+ years but the marina is in the process of being completely rebuilt. New bathroom/shower/;aundry building with lounge is excellant. New breakwater covering the north of the marina eliminates the previous openess to North winds. New docks are great. a much improved stop and great place to check through customs entering the North Channel from the West or South.

Friendly but needed TLC, 2012-01-28
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (201)

Marina is due for overhaul. Dock was barely 6 inches above water line. New harbormaster office signals the transition, but more to be done as of July 2011. Very friendly staff, clean laundry facility.

rugged marina, 2011-11-03
Captain: , Newport, R.I. (644)

Marina is great place to check in with customs on property. Docks were very rough as the hole Marina will be closed for complete dock reconstruction. Staff nice and helpful and very knowledgable.

Meldrum Bay Marina, 2011-03-09
Captain: , Macataw, MI (435)

Have not been here for a couple of years and believe there is a new marina coming. Last time here it was primative but a nice day's sail from Rogers City, MI and a great way to enter the North Channel from MI. Had a couple of good restaurants at that time and...the lady who came to the marina with her homemade pies was great.

Meldrum Bay Marina, 2011-02-20
Captain: , Destin, FL (514)

New Docks and office were not yet under construction in 8/2010. Laundry, shower facilities available. Fuel generally available but expensive since it comes by ferry. CN Customs officer generally onsite starting in 2010- otherwise call to 800-CANPASS rings in to Gore Bay and they may drive out if it is a slow day or they don't like what they hear. (Max alcohol duty free is 1.75 L per person.)

Current docks can be very difficult to leave if a strong north wind. Friends have been trapped on the dock for 2 days in 20+ kts. If windy, anchor out.

Inn is great for simple dinner but usually stops serving by 8:00PM. Small grocery store closed several years ago- no provisions available.

Building a new marina, 2010-09-04
Captain: , Collierville TN (977)

The new dock office and showers is under construction. Great new breakwater. New docks scheduled for 2011.
Dinner at the Inn was excellent. Nice quiet stop.

Well protected location - not much here, 2010-08-21
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

We pulled in here to get water and were surprised to find that the water wasn't potable. We had to haul water from the Inn to get us through. By 2011 they'll have potable water at the docks when they'll have a new cruiser's center with showers.

Our dinner at the Inn was quite nice. There's not a lot to do here other than chill.

Beautiful setting for an adequate marina, 2010-07-25
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

Marina is undergoing major renovation but is currently adquate. Deep water access with very helpful and friendly staff. This is a very rural locale and the Inn at Meldrum Bay is the center of town - in fact it is the town.
