Reviews for Mears Point Marina
Second Visit, 2017-06-29
Captain: , Colonial Beach (91)

Approach from the North in low tide was a bit scary, luckly we followed 2 other deep draft boats in. Once in the channel, follow the markers NOT your chartplotter! Consistantly 5-6 feet in the middle with one 4' hump, but no bumping.
This is a large and spread out marina. Last year we were far from the pool and learned to ask for a slip near the pool. Pool is huge and well staffed. Bathrooms/showers were clean and plenty. A large gym is on site and is included. Tiki bar is a nice addition and was open during the week. While is spead out it's well secured and pass keys are required. We were on the N dock and it was in poor condition, although it was close to the grass for dog walking. A friendly staff and accommodating.
Bridge opens on the hour and 1/2 hour upon request. Hail bridge operator on channel 13 5-mins before scheduled opening. The current is wicked during an ebb directly under the bridge (3-4 kts)! Be prepared. Several restaurants walking distant or via short dingy ride. Bridges is new since our last visits and very nice. The Jetty is more casual but great location and atmosphere. The best food is The Narrows...I think.
4 stars with the marina taking a hit for poorly maintained slips.

Great Marina. , 2016-08-26
Captain: , Charlestown, MD (10)

We go to Mears Point Marina every year. It is a really friendly and clean marina. The only down fall this year was 3 out of 4 days the Tiki Bar was not open. That was disappointing. We like to spend our days by the pool and have lunch at the Tiki Bar. There are many restaurants within walking distance that will not disappoint you. They did tell us they were short staffed which is understandable this time year. Next year we will plan to go in July.

Great Place, 2016-08-18

Going on my second year at the marina. The staff is vary friendly. The heads are always clean and the pool is welcoming.

Two Night Stay - Fairly Nice, 2016-07-11
Captain: , Annapolis (127)

If the docks were in better shape, this facility would have received a full 5 stars.

Heads, pool, and staff were all very nice. They even facilitiated a late check-out for us due to some high winds in the Bay we wanted to wait out.

We came in very late, and after they had closed, but they called before they left, provided the slip assignment, and code for the head. Check-in the following morning was a breeze, and they offer a Boat US Discount (10%).

Only downside are the docks (mainly the finger piers). The one we were at was very instable and many others appeared in a simimlar condition. We stayed all the way in the back which put us close to the pool and office, and it appeared some of the other docks were closed entirely for repairs, so maybe they're addressing this.

Overall, nice getaway for a weekend.

Beware the bridge, 2016-06-01
Captain: , Rowayton, CT (199)

While this large marina offers a nice pool, tiki bar and a number o restaurants in walking distance it is right by a very busy bridge so if you want a quiet night this is not the place. Nevertheless plenty of people call this their boating home - caveat emptor I guess!

Great facility, 2015-09-14
Captain: , Havre De Grace MD (170)

Great facility that is very well protected. The staff are very freindly and helpful. The fuel dock attendants were very professional. The marine offers excellent protection as well.

Great place to stay for a night or more, 2015-07-21
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

Stayed from July 11 to July 15 while waiting for repairs to be done. This marina has great ammenities. Showers are clean and provide dressing space with each shower. Fitness club on site. Large pool along with kiddie pool. There are a few dining facilitites on site with several more within walking distance. Everything from Bar-type to fine dining. We heard about plans to remove some of the marina and buildings to build condos, so for next year, I would check it out before going.

Beutifully kept and maintained, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Chester (160)

This marina and grounds are kept very well and is like a mini resort - I wish they accomodated winter live aboards.

Excellent Facility, 2014-10-11
Captain: , Dutch Harbor, RI (411)

We would make it a point to stop here every time. The facilities were very clean and modern. As good as any 4 star hotel. Complementary breakfast (including smoked salmon) was a real surprise. great service and very friendly. they also have a small dingy dock if you take their single mooring that is available for transients. Nice town to visit as well.

The Narrows, 2014-09-15
Captain: , Bear Cr,MD (145)

We really enjoy this facility!! Many resturants close by, workout facility, night life and friendly natives! Reasonable pricing and fuel costs. The Narrows can be tricky when the current runs, so be careful. Previous reviewers say it all.

Mears Point, 2014-07-11
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (354)

Was a bit dissapointed on this one. As a transient, we were put out on the t head in the narrows. Lot of current and trafic. Might have seen it differently if we had a slip in the protected lagoon. The pool being closed didn't help.

4th of July Weekend 2014, 2014-07-06
Captain: , Glenwood, MD (385)

Great Marina. Booking reservations was a pleasant experience, assistance with docking was very helpful, professional and pleasant. This marina has everything!! Pool, restaurants, marine services... it was a pleasant surprise to have a complimentary continental breakfast offered by the Kent Narrows Yacht Club. Very Dog friendly. The pool was huge...One of teh best kept secrets is a hiking /Biking trail that goes all the way to the Bay Bridge... Transiemt dockage is on teh "R" dock, closest to the Kent Narrows Bridge which made for a bit of extra car/truck/emergency vehicle noise..... but if you have yoru AC on or run a fan for whote noise, it wasnt too much of an issue.... Great time had by ALL

Very Positive Experience, 2013-08-21
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1025)

We go here for the workout facilities and quantity and quality of the bar/restaurants at Kent Narrows. The weight room, combined with the pool and the running/biking path are some of the best workout facilities I have seen on the Bay. Also, there are probably 20 restaurants/bars in the area, all of which are fairly good deasl.

Moreover, there are a bunch of businesses ready to fix your boat, no matter what the problem.

Although it is true that getting into the marina can be a chore, we experienced none of the odor problems that other reviewers did.

Needs improvement, 2013-07-29
Captain: , Cherry Hill (378)

This is a huge marina in a great location with a huge pool and poolside bar. The on site gym is immense and the laundry and bath facilities are very clean and ice cold even during the 105 degree heat wave of two weeks ago. Three drawbacks were that there was no ship store to buy supplies and provisions, the marina was very hot and stunk of trash from Red Eyes and the numerous other trash dumpsters on site, and the pool water was also 90 degrees and extremely cloudy. It's not horrible, but I would not stay here again. Rock Hall and St. Michaels are too close by to not keep going.

Disappointed 1st Time Visitor, 2013-07-11
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (400)

Visited Mears Point with 3 X other boats and I was a little disappointed, primarily because weather impacted our stay. We arrived in early July with rain + 20 kt winds and were put on C-dock in back of the gas dock, which combined with Kent Narrows current, made getting into slip dicey. Hats off to dock-hands, particularly Brita for helping us get in. While the pool looked nice, unfortunately it was closed due to the weather. Also, the bath house by C-dock was dirty--likely not cleaned due to the weather. Most importantly, we constantly had a garbage smell wafting from Red Eyes. Likely a better marina than it showed during overnight stay because of weather. Next time, we'll ask for a temp slip further back in protected waters.

Very Nice Marina, 2012-10-04
Captain: , Stuart, FL (1019)

It is tricky getting in and we played the tide with our five foot draft. At high tide, we had 1.7 feet under the keel at the lowest point. The advice about staying close to the green marks is accurate.

Getting into Mears is also tight, the fairway being narrow. Also, be aware of the tide entering the marina. Once into the Marina, we had no trouble finding our assigned slip and had lots of help from Mike, the dockhand, and our neighbor.

We lucked out getting a slip on K Dock. The people were super friendly and insisted we join them for a pot luck supper at the end of the dock. One fellow offered to take us to grocery store and liquor store in his car. Another invited us out to dinner another night. They could not have been nicer.

The Marina is large and well-run. People were friendly and helpful in the office. The grounds are very clean. There are several bars and restaurants nearby. There was also a good fish market within walking distance. It was a very nice stay.

One Night Stand, 2012-09-24
Captain: , Deale, MD (347)

Adequate dock and facility condition. Bath house clean though shows signs of heavy use. Depth less than advertized, shallowing to 3' in areas within the marina dock area. Good food/bar scene in a very active boating area. Kent Narrows bridge opens on the half hour until Nov 1, then upon request. If approaching the Narrows from the north, note that channel depths quickly decrease to less than 5' off centerline.

Huge excellent marina, 2012-07-22
Captain: , Pennsville, NJ (195)

Arrived late afternoon on a Tuesday. Dockhand met us at the slip to help. 10% discount for Boat-US. Honored a promotion through even though none of the staff had heard of it. Dockage is clean and well maintained. Pool is huge and has snack bar with adult beverages. Bathroom and showers are TOP NOTCH

Quiet Midweek, 2012-06-01
Captain: , Yeocomico River (336)

We stayed here mid week after memorial day weekend and it was pretty empty and quiet. We were on the WMD of C Dock and there was a good breeze and a fair amount of current. Dock hand was available to help with lines and power. They did offer a 10% dockage discount for BoatUs members. Close walk to several places to eat, all good food.

Fun Marina with Boat US discount, 2012-05-29
Captain: , Annapolis Maryland (111)

Great pool & bar, lots of local dining within walking distance, nightlife too. Nice discount with Boat US membership.

Print a marina map and bring it with you. Navigating to your slip with dock signage and numbering can get confusing (all 3x I've been).

Great place to keep your boat, 2011-11-28
Captain: , Fremantle, West Australia (1448)

Superbly run, excellent facilities. Red Eyes Dock Bar can get noisy but that's part of the life of the place. Lots of boats, lots of people in the summer. The current at the fuel dock needs watching out for. Stayed for 4 months.

Mears Kent Island, 2011-09-18
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1145)

If you are coming from the north - Favor the greens as it gets very shallow in low tide. The marina is great and if you need any work done there is a family run business called C & C Charters. Rick Nissen and his wife Lynn and the family! They have done all our electronics and routine maintenance. This stop they put on a stern thruster. They are honest and reliable. If you are in the area and need work done, tell Rick & Lynn that Laurie & Randy from Wastin' Aweigh sent you.

Dominant Marina in a good party spot, 2011-09-06
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

All of the Mears' Marinas are top notch and among the best on the Chesapeake Bay. This one is no exception. Sturdy docks, clean bath house, great pool, helpful staff (to a point). The place is safe and clean and well run. They monitor channel 9 as well as 16. If you get there after 5 PM, you can go across the parking lot to the t-shirt shop at Red Eye Dock Bar to check in (no one told us this and there were no signs - we just stumbled on it). Kent Narrows is mostly powerboats and geared for the younger set, although you'll find plenty of middle age folks partying with the kids. It is a popular place for folks to stop on their way back from an Ocean City beach weekend and it can get boisterous, even on Sunday night. Sailors are generally tolerated, but powerboats rule here as it is just a short to Annapolis and Baltimore for a power boat.

Bought my boat here, VERY FAIR Dealer!, 2011-07-12

Concur With Others, 2011-04-11

A big/busy marina, but they do everything possible to ensure and enjoyable/safe stay regardless if for a night or the season.

Good marina with lots of activity, 2011-04-05
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (181)

Mears has been my home marina since around 1996 and I have been coming to it since the mid 1980's.

The marina management and staff do their best to keep a busy marina clean and safe. My experience indicates that the management and staff will do what it can to meet its customers needs. Transients can expect dock hands to be available to assist when coming in.

On summer weekends the marina can get busy and the Red Eye can get loud due to live music and lots of people. However, slips away from that area are not impacted very much and during the week, the marina is quiet. The docks and facilities are well kept and usually very clean given the level of activity. Large pool and workout facilities are on site. Plenty of restraunts (Harris Crab House, The Narrows (excellent), Fishermans, etc) and bars (Red Eyes, Crab Deck, Jetty) within walking distance and a West Marine and a Safeway are a short cab ride away or could easily be reached by bicycle. Kent Island features a great walking/bike path that runs from the Kent Narrows to the Bay Bridge at the other side of the island.

If you are not used to it, be careful of the current in the narrows, especially when pulling up to the fuel dock or into some of the outside slips as it can be fairly strong at times.

Nice Big Marina, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Newark, DE (259)

Nice marina, decent bar popular with the younger crowd and go loud boats. Huge pool. Good attentive staff at the marina.

SPOTLESSLY clean and friendly atmosphere!, 2010-07-26
Captain: , Cornwall PA (421)

This is what every marina wants to be. EXCELLENT pool, three restaurants within 100 yards, bars, event tents, convenient parking, and friendly staff.

Party central, or quiet retreat, 2009-06-30
Captain: , Patuxent River, MD (391)

Unlike the previous reviewer we found the staff to be friendly and willing to work with us. We were here for a two night stay, and our original slip backed up to Red Eyes bar (loud). Asked if we could move the next morning, and ended up in a quiet slip near a bathhouse, with a marsh view in front of us and a picnic area behind us. Lots of places to eat and a great pool. Strong current near the entrances and fuel dock. Some traffic noise from Rt 50/301. Clean showers/heads.

Nice but not, 2008-01-11
Captain: , Phila, PA (293)

This is a very nice, well kept marina with a huge pool. Pool side bar with decent drinks and burgers. The only downfall here is that marina management is not real friendly. A "take it or leave it" attitude. Transient slips are very pricey and often require a two night minimum.
