Reviews for McCotters Marina and Boatyard
Great place to keep boat, 2016-02-04
Captain: , Castalia NC (80)

We have had our boat here for a few months. Best price we could find. And luckily it's the closest one to our home. People are nice and fellow boaters are friendly. Always someone there to keep an eye on things. A few livaboards, but weekends are great!

Friendly, no frills, great place to leave your boat and get some work done., 2015-11-05
Captain: , Toronto (10)

McCotter's is not a resort, nor a place with immaculate lawns, but it is a great place to leave your boat or get some serious work done. I left Prince Diamond here for 14 months as I prepared to continue my world circumnavigation. You can work on your own boat, or get jobs done at a reasonable price. Owner Mark Henley is friendly and approachable. The on-site chandlery was quite often a great resource, small in size, but having a surprising inventory, saving me a long trip into Washington for something from West Marine. There's no fuel available here. And the entire bay is barely 5.5 feet deep. But the bottom is a forgiving mud, and when I began dragging the keel along half a kilometre from the docks I just upped the throttle a bit and made it all the way in without a problem. There's a lot of pine needles falling on your boat on the water side of the road which I didn't mind as it was closer to the power and water taps. The far side of the road has no pine trees and is sunny.

Great Boatyard!, 2015-10-06

I love McCotters! They are very helpful, fairly priced, and Mark is a great guy! I always look foreward to visiting McCotters!

Best bang for your buck, 2014-12-14
Captain: , Evergreen , Colorado (181)

I had pulled in on a Sunday after they had closed for the day back in june looking for a spot for a couple months that would be hurricane safe. Had never meant them in person, only by phone was I able to make arrangements to have the boat hauled, washed and put on the hard . Wasn't until December by the time i made it back with absolutely no issues ! The staff was a huge help and went way beyond to get me back into the water.

McCotters Marina, 2013-11-15
Captain: , Washington, NC (10)

I'm relatively new to sailing and I have been very impressed by the dedication Mark (harbormaster) and the fellow staff have toward the Marina and the "user experience." Mark has helped me out countless times with any issues I have had with my vessel and always goes above and beyond. That goes for everyone there...it seems like everyone there has so much knowledge and are approachable. I keep learning and getting incredible advice and the Marina has a family feel to it. The bath house is great to have, WIFI is free, the store is well equipped, larger vessels can easily be accomodated (I have a 30 footer), and there are fun events at the Marina I keep learning about!

Great yard right off the Pamlico River, 2013-11-15
Captain: , Ocracoke, NC (10)

Mark and the staff at McCotters do a great job in their yard and at the docks. I've pulled out twice in this yard and both experiences were excellent. They're not the least expensive yard in the area but their service is superior. The location with lots of open space and tall trees is beautiful and well kept. Highly recommended!

Excellent Service, 2013-11-13
Captain: , Oriental (10)

Excellent service at McCotters Marina. Full service marina, store, ramp and travel lift.

Good Marina and Great Boat Yard, 2013-11-13
Captain: , Washington, NC (10)

McCotters boatyard is the preferred boat yard for the local sailors. Great haul out service reasonably priced. You can do the work there yourself or use the very capable staff to assist you with all your boat maintenance. I had a problem with alignment with a feathering prop. I had several other mechanics work on it but Mccotters marina staff fixed the issue when others could not. Thanks

McCotters Marina, 2013-11-13
Captain: , Washington, NC (10)

This is a great marina for several reasons. Good protection in bad weather (hurricanes not included), excellent sailing access to Pamlico River, mostly new docks, with reliable electricity and water, a full service store with at least competitive prices, a full service yard that you can do your own work in if you choose, the atmosphere is definitely laid back and that is what I want.

never had an issue, 2013-11-12
Captain: , charlestown, ri (10)

I've read the other reviews.
all I can tell anyone is my experiences with McCotters.
I am a delinquent. my day job keeps me from my boat frequently. I don't worry about my boat. Mark and everyone else at McCotters have always looked out for my boat. when she was low in the slip, they looked and ran the bilge. no change. they hauled her out and found the leak. work was done quickly and to the penny of the estimate. they've done all the canvas and cushions. again, to the penny and in a timely manner. when my lousy outboard finally died, they lent me one while I worked with them on a permanent option. and they had the mechanic follow me out with the loaner to check on me.
when Irene came through they pulled as many boats out as they could. I never asked, but if they hadn't, I'd likely have lost my boat. yes, it's not the Hilton, but everyone's always been honest with me and have looked out for my boat when I'm not there. for my money and peace of mind, my boat stays at McCotter's.

McCotters Marina, 2013-11-11
Captain: , Baton Rouge, LA (10)

As a circumnavigator I know that boating embraces all manner of people and places. If you want the Hilton, McCotters Marina isn't it. However, if you want a laid back, easy to work with marina with old fashioned values, this is it. Mark Henley was responsive and responsible, and took care of our trawler when we weren't around. Most of all he was honest, that rarest of traits in a now-we-see-you-now-you're-gone business world. The facilities are simple, the environment at the marina, serene. Overall it's quiet and relaxing. Serenity and simplicity mixed with quality service when you need either one.

McCotters Marina, 2013-02-12
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (50)

Much better Marinas close by. This was poorly kept up and cost was not worth the service.

At least they tried, 2010-08-16
Captain: , Oriental, NC (89)

They were willing to repair rather than replace my engine. McCotter's estimated one to two thousand dollars, it cost six thousand and took two months. The engine is running at least as well as it did when I took it in and no longer leaks fuel. I sure would like to see the details supporting the bill I paid.

Stay Away Or Approach With Caution, 2009-10-16
Captain: , New Bern, NC (102)

Complaints concerning billing exceeding quotes by gross amounts. Workers are not well-managed. Some good sub-contractors for woodworking and fiberglass repair, but no proper accounting for hours. In addition, they have been known to impose finance charges on bills with no prior arrangement and the rate is not announced. A decent place to rent a slip if you desire low costs and are willing to accept laissez faire management whom you will not be able to hold accountable for anything. Do not let the pleasant demeanor of the owner fool you - he does not follow-through on aything he agrees to. This yard has an active brokerage of unknown reliability. You cannot leave your boat there with any reliance that it will be cared for in your absence.

Nice small town marina, 2008-01-23
Captain: , Apex, NC (214)

I recently moved our boat to Mccotters. To date, the staff has been helpful, the grounds, while not exceptional, are adequate, and the prices are reasonable.
