The approach is well covered in the section on Mattituck Inlet. The channel is well marked with unlighted private bouys. Extreme low tides may be a problem for deep draft vessels over a 6 foot draft, but otherwise there are no problems to speak of. Very scenic.

Reviews for Strong's Water Club and Marina
A nice stop, 2017-09-11
Captain: , Branford ,CT (220)

This Marina is on its way to a five star destination ! It was a nice surprise to find the grounds were improved as well as the docks ! The staff was responsive from the first call on the vhf to helping us on the dock! The on site restaurant had good food but the staff defiantly needs some tuning up very mixed up service. We will be back!!
06/18/16 Still the same nice place but I think a little greed has come into play with 2 dollars a foot for a short stay rate!!!!!!!!!! Did not stop because $80 on top of a lunch bill is excessive !!
Labor Day weekend 2017 we stayed Saturday & Sunday nights & we could not access wifi once during the whole stay! Also $30 dollars for a pump out yes $30 is outrageous!!!!!!!!! Still a nice place with good amenities!!

I was there August 4th to the 6th %u2013 2017. I was told ahead of time that I would have to do a med-tie. I wasn%u2019t crazy about the idea, but since I never did it before I thought that I would take a chance. I have a bridge boat and I catch a lot of wind. When we arrived, I was the 4th boat in the line of the med-tie, so the boat next to me had their anchor out and not me. All three of the other boats where express cruiser types, so I was the only bridge boat. The winds were a steady 15 knots and building and were out of the south and I was tying to the boat on the north side of the line, so that was a challenge. They had plenty of dockhands to help and since I was meeting up with a group, plenty of spectators and options on how to tie up. I was surprised how windy it was there since they are about 2 miles inland and the LI Sound wasn%u2019t that bad.
They had some electrical issues on the dock, but the marina sent people down to work on the towers and got most of it fixed quickly. The grounds are very nice, they have a pool and restaurant and some games. They also had a few Regal boats on the lawn that you could go on the check out.
The second day the winds increased to 25 %u2013 30 knots and shifted, so we had to do some retying of our lines, especially my boat that had all of the windage. I must admit that I did sleep with one eye open because I didn%u2019t know if everything was going to hold and I knew the winds were not going to let up.
The food at the restaurant was good, we ate lunch outside and the service was typical summer help. The employees in every area that we dealt with were very friendly and accommodating.
The town is a short walk away, about .7 of a mile. It is small and Love Lane is the main street. They were having a street fair while we were there and for a small town, they had some great food options. Lombardi%u2019s Love Lane Market is not to be missed! I wish they were in my town. I had the gourmet Panini %u2013 The Muffaletta and it was fabulous. There are several winery%u2019s nearby.

Called 7/18 left a message with transient dock office ,called back following day left message ,finally got a return call on 7/20 informing me that there was no availability ,ok so lets make it another time
Called early on 7/19 spoke to ted ,asked if they had availability for upcoming weekemd ,explained the need for use to be placed on a floating dock ,need easy access for my dog ,Ted said no problem ,"plenty of room for weekend","Call back after 9 and they will set you up with reservation".Followed his instructions ,left message ,on 7?20 I called back was told that person in charge would be in touch by 12 noon, I voiced my concern that weekend was rapidly approaching ,was told she would probably call back sooner ,no worry plenty of spots, great .At 6 pm I called back left a message on Ted voicemail letting him know that i still dont have a reservation .
told him he could call or not that i wasnt real interested anymore ,but since we are 54 ' loa he was missing on my buisness , I did this because he seemed nice and I thought he should know what was happening since he seemed to be in charge
The next afternoon I received a call ,I was told that Id have to med tie , I had specificlly said I had no interest in that as that would not be ez access ,I explained this and questioned what had happened between my 1st call with amicable Ted to this call and was explained to as if it was my 1st day boating what med tying was ... which I guess was nice ,if I hadnt explained that I was well aware ..... whatever ,just kinda limited my options for this wknd ,lesson learned ,Dont wait idle for someone who has no vested interest to return your call, no matter how amicable the manager seems.... Oh and that med tying means stern in with boats next to you and no fingers .... LOL....

Very Good Marina, 2015-10-05
Captain: , Deep River, CT (251)

We spend a weekend at Strongs Water Club and Marina this past August. We were extremely happy with the marina. The docks were in good shape, dockhands helpfull, heads and showers clean. A short walk into small but nice town. Love Lane is not to be missed and the grocery store is wonderful. The onsite restaurant is excellent. All in all an excellent weekend visit.

Great Marina, 2015-09-09
Captain: , Mattituck, NY. (391)

Beautiful area! The Strong's have taken over this marina and are working very hard to make it a first class destination. They have a beautiful newly renovated pool, picnic tables and BBQ area, Paces Dockside Restaurant, some new docks and more to come. Dockhands are good, Ted the manager, Terry and all dockhands are a pleasure to work with. They have a van on weekends to take you to the vineyards, stores for a fee. Walking distance to restaurants, laundry, supermarket, movies, ice cream.Give it a try I hope you will be pleasantly surprised!! Also a good marina to stop in if you are coming east from Port Jefferson or in west further.

Very well kept, 2015-07-18
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

Well run facility, friendly and helpful staff. A 3 to 4 block walk to town and a bit further to good grocery. Good mid-point stop on the north LI shore.

Excellant Dockside dinning and staff, 2015-06-18
Captain: , Boca Raton, Fl (639)

Anchored in the well marked Federal anchorage for two nights. The bottom is grass so the appropriate ground tackle is needed or spend a lot of time trying to set with a plow type w/o a singnificant point at the end. The marina is beutifully maintained and well staffed. Pace's Dockside resturatant is a four star excellant choice if you don''t wish to go into Mattituck itself. We went to the open air bar and then opted to stay for the Dockside Happy bar hour with fabulous platters of such things as steak house potato skins, crab shrimp and corn fitters and many other dishes and dirnks. Quiet and mannerly. This is your choice for a delightful summers night on Long Islands East End.

Nice again this year, 2014-09-30
Captain: , Westbrook, CT (80)

This is a neat trip up a scenic creek and we enjoyed our yearly trip here for a quiet weekend at the end of September 2014. The marina is a park-like retreat, with a friendly staff, and continues to be updated and improved. We were glad to find that the restaurant on the marina grounds is now open. My spouse has special dietary needs and the kitchen chief and wait staff could not have been better in accomodating her needs. Great meal!

Nice place, a little disorganized, 2014-09-04
Captain: , Bridgeport, CT (62)

We had a reservation at the beggining of this season that we had to change. I talked to the dockstaff and he said no problem. When I came they had forgot my reservation and had no room, so I ended up spending a night somewhere else before I could get in. I like the improvements and I really like the area. The approach through the river is beautiful and the bluffs right outside are majestic. The new restaurant is so-so, we liked the old one that moved into town a lot more.

Good stop once you get to know it, 2014-08-31
Captain: , Mount Sinai (140)

Headed from Mt Sinai to Mattituck expecting to dock at Strongs overnight and catch the favoring current through Plum Gut in the morning. The plane was to refill the water tanks and recharge my battery banks. Arrived about 8:30 pm and tied up at their gas/face dock. My 30 amp plug would not fit their power outlets. I also had a 50 amp pigtail that at first did not fit. So no charging overnight. I was tired and a little peeved after a day of motoring with no wind. Next morning when I checked in I explained the situation the gal in the front office who was sypathetic and did not charge for power for my stay. Turns out with the help of a dockhand my 50 amp pigtail adapter did fit one of their outlets on the other side of the power post. But, even the dock hand had a little trouble inserting it. Since I missed the favoring current I decided to stay a second night. Overall I liked the place and the managment accomidation shows good business sense. I'd stay here again now that I know what the power situation is.

Couple of other commets:
No laundry you will need to go to town.
The pool is only open 12 to 5pm on weekdays longer on weekends. Closed after labor day. Pool is also used by local community so lots of kids and noise. Still was able to get some laps in.

Very nice!, 2014-08-18
Captain: , Brookhaven, NY (396)

Stayed two nights as part of a US Power Squadron event (87 boats). Price a bit on the high side, but not terrible. Service was outstanding, with very pleasant folks. I'd do it again.

Nice. quiet place to stay, 2014-07-02
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (418)

We stopped by here on our way out to Block Island. As previously noted, this marina is going through a major makeover. It seems that the rehab is nearing completion. The docks are in very good condition. the pool and grounds are nicely kept. The restuarant is now open Wednesday to Sunday. The restrooms are the only open item to be upgraded (they are good).
The staff is excellent and very helpful (Paul is the man!)
We came here on a Tuesday night and were berthed on the fuel dock in a slip. We needed some diesel ($4.68/gal) and Paul was able to run the hose to our boat so we didnt need to make 2 moves.

Better than ever, 2014-05-15
Captain: , Mattituck, New York (102)

Matt-Mar became Strong's, and Touch of Venice, now moved, has been replaced by Pace's Dockside Restaurant. The pool is nearly completed, now surrounded by a large sandy area which resembles a beach. Tiki bar is scheduled for completion in the next few weeks. When I was there last weekend, there was live entertainment on the great lawn with only a few people taking advantage of it. I've found the sales, service, and dock staff top rate and very friendly. It's a pleasure docking here.

Nice and getting better, 2013-08-02
Captain: , Mt. Sinai, NY (232)

My first time here since 2005.

We spent the night there July 27, 2013. Tried to hail then on VHF-9 but no response. I called with my cell phone and that got their attention. Three yellow shirted dock workers directed me to a slip and they had my boat tied up before I had the engine off (and properly done too).

The facilities are nice and are being updated. The pool is huge (75 feet, 11 ft deep) and beautiful. No restaurant yet but they hope to have it open soon. The heads were a bit of walk from the slips but were very nice and clean. We had a very pleasant stay there and I would go back.

Hidden Gem-Good Getting Better, 2013-07-10
Captain: , mamaroneck (140)

When I called Matt-a-Mar for a reservation, I learned that the marina was purchased by the Strong Family. Having heard of their reputation, it was no surprise to find that what was once Matt-a-Mar, offering magnificient vistas, but with old facilities, would soon change. The vistas are still present, but immediately you could tell things were changing for the better. The splintering docks are being replaced, the electric pedastals are being replaced and the overall appearance looks neater. Bikes are offered for use, you can rent paddleboards, volleyball and salt water pool are also offered. The town is just as quaint, the restaurants, vineyards, fresh vegetable stands are there for enjoyment as well as the Long Island Vodka distillery (which by the way was voted by our traveling group as the best tasting among Grey Goose, Absolute and Kettle One in a blind taste test). After our stay, I received an email, inviting us back and asking for suggestions. There is no doubt in my mind that the marina will continue to improve and we certainly plan to return. The only thing missing was the Active Captain discount honored by Matt-a Mar...a small price to pay.

National Geographic TV, 2012-12-19
Captain: , Newport RI (247)

Mid-September visit: Unfortunately we arrived close to dead low tide. The entrance is tricky to find until you are on it and there is not a lot of water. When you enter the channel it appears you%u2019re going to dead-end on a beach. As you approach the beach you see the channel 90 degrees to port. As you navigate a very narrow and very shallow (about 5.5%u2019) channel with sharp turns you will find views / vistas that you would expect to see on post cards or National Geographic TV!!
Matt-A- Marr Marina is something between quaint and rustic, it reminds me of an RV Camp ground. The docks are older and weathered. The dock hands were friendly and helpful. Long story short; location, location, location%u2026 I will surly return to Matt-A-Mar for the scenery. It would be nice if they could make some better accommodations for pump-out.

Great Stop, 2012-07-20
Captain: , Mashpee, MA (541)

Honored Active Captain 1.75/ft rate. Nice people. Pump out cost $60 for a neighboring boat. pool was great on 90+ degree day but hours limited most days to 12-5pm.

Explanation for pump out charge - makes sense, below. I appreciate them clearing this up:
From: j383p
Subject: Bert
I would also like to explain the pump out charge to you. The state has a pump out station when you come into the creek on the west side of the inlet. Which is free to us for everyone. Which we explain to the boat owner and anyone else that comes here.
For us to do a pump out it requires 2 men and the forklift to move the pump out machine. By the time we pick the machine up bring to the boat, pump out the boat, empty the machine and then wash it clean and put it back away. it's 3 hrs total plus martails. As you can see it is a total loss for the marina.
We use this machine when we winterize the boat in the fall becuase we will do 25 boats in a day when they are lined up. The set up time and the cleaning time is what takes so long.
I hope this explains why we charge $60 for the pump, and please remember we are not state funded for any of this and the state does have a free pump out when you come into the inlet.
Thank you again for the great review and hope to see you back soon.

People friendly, nice pool and clean shpowers for $2.75/ft.
Place was empty on a Sunday afternoon which in our experience was very unusual.

Very nice!, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Milford (530)

We found it very easy to come up the inlet 2 hours before high tide, well marked channel. Beautiful surroundings as you seemingly motor back in time watching the older docks and houses pass by. Matt-A-Mar was ready for us and very helpful. Clean docks, beautiful grounds. Absolutely protected in the very end of the inlet. Love Lane is a 15 minute walk, many stores there (including hardware) but after 6pm on a Monday they were all closed.

My wife loved it and we will return!
We ate at "aManos" in town - nice food but very expensive for what it was. Happy Hour advertised 2 for 1 drinks but check the fine print.

Good, but off season, support., 2011-10-05
Captain: , Bridgeport, CT (559)

Getting block ice is difficult at best in LI in September. Matt-A-Mar had ice cubes and offered reasonable dockage.

Worth a visit!, 2011-07-11
Captain: , Island Heights (340)

Came to Mattituck last week and was pleasantly surprised! Staff is very friendly and accomodating. Went to a vineyard (cab) and had a great dinner at a Mano (walk). Rates are fair, but gas is the most expensive I've found to date. Pool was nice, but closed at 5 PM. There used to be a good restaurant on site, but is now vacant. Worth the trip!

short vacation, 2011-06-30
Captain: , New Haven,ct (20)

Took a run over on a Monday morning. Nice quiet place to visit, not to many people around, could of been because of a Monday. Great staff, clean neat grounds, some of the docks are older but being reworked. The restaurant is no longer there, so to eat you need to walk to town or possibly get a cab some where.
Inlet is well marked and easy to navigate, definatley will be back.

Great location, 2011-06-13
Captain: , 3 Mile Harbor, East Hampton, NY (30)

Walking distance to a cute little downtown. Very quiet location. Scary coming up the channel at low tide, but that was just bad planning on my part.

park like setting, 2011-05-17
Captain: , red bank,nj (333)

good staff. nice dock. pool very nice. very quiet no wakes. restaurant good. new discovery for me.

Very good service, 2011-02-02
Captain: , New York (187)

Had to pull in with some vibration problems. Staff was excellent, short hauled and tightened up prop nut.(good thing for cotter pins). Very reasonable price also. Looking forward to going back for pleasure this time.

Would have stayed if it was cheaper, 2010-07-22
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3181)

Mattituck is a great place to stop while transiting LI. I stopped in the anchorage and would have stayed at this nice looking marina if the price was cheaper. I understand the resort amenties but I only wanted a dock and elec for my AC for one night. The place was mostly empty and could have benefited from my 1.50 per foot. I was too timid to ask.

One of my favorites, 2009-08-29
Captain: , City Island, NY (98)

I've been to Mat-a-Mar several times and been impressed each time. The staff is friendly, the setting is very parklike, the pool is large and well maintained, and the restaurant is very good. There was a live band playing all Sunday afternoon. Very enjoyable.

When we pulled in we were experiencing an overheating problem. We left the boat with them and the overhauled the cooling system. The work was well done, the charges were about average for the LI Sound area.

I'll certainly visit again

Nice Spot, 2009-08-21
Captain: , Sag Harbor, NY (637)

This is a nice laid back place to stay. The grounds are park like with a nice picnic area and huge pool. There is a very good restaurant and bar on site and it is only a short (1/2 mile?) walk to the center of Love Lane, Mattituck.

There is no cable TV at the slips and no WIFI available in the area. We did not need the showers or laundry, but if they are there, we did not see any evidence of them. Perhaps some signs would be in order?
Overall, for $2.75/ft weekdays, its a good value.

Great location-Poor management, 2009-06-02
Captain: , Mattituck, NY (91)

Great location, near town, great Italian Restaurant on site, just try to not have to deal with the marina owner.

Great Experience, Very Scenic, including 20 minute ride here, 2007-07-23
Captain: , Huntington, NY (2311)

5 stars for the scenery, and the marina is very good as well.

Marina is in a very satisfying Scenic location, including the trip up the river. At the marina is a large barbaque area, swimming pool, on-site casual/elegant resturant with fine food, bar and inside/outside seating, and well kept marina and grounds.

Shopping in the main town's main street ("Love Lane") is about 15 minutes walking distance, including a specialty gormet chocolats store, specialty gormet cheese store with free tastings, upscale deli, grocery store, gift shop, etc.
