Reviews for Mathews Yacht Club
Quiet Non-commercial Setting, 2013-06-13

The Mathews Yacht Club doesn't seem to court cruiser traffic, but does welcome members of "recognised yacht clubs", if space is available. We reccommend calling Mark, the manager, ahead. Charge was $1.25/ft. with 30 amp included. Our slip was the locally-common finger pier/pilings format, a bit difficult with 20kts. astern coming in.
The bath facilities were very clean and modern. Note that the club is not open every day; we found the building locked up when we went up to the clubhouse, hoping for a shower, in the morning. The central dock as you approach, in front of the flagpole, has a DIY pumpout, with no separate charge for use.
We found the marks on the approach through Milford Haven easy to follow and charted depths to be accurate. We had no trouble getting a 5' draft in and out.

Very nice people and charming club, 2010-07-26

Very nice place to stop in and visit great members. Recommend entering from Milford Haven. We ran a ground entering from the hole in the wall with a 4 foot draft, but were hailed on the vhf by a club member, Bob, who gave us guidance all the way to the club. Thanks Bob. Easy in and out through Milford Haven. Club stayed open for us and had dinner all set for just my Wife and I! Food was outstanding. Great breakfast too....

A True Hideaway, 2009-10-03
Captain: , Saint Petersburg, FL (181)

We were wonderfully surprised at this hideaway up Stutts Creek off the Piankatank River. A few miles behind Gwynn Island and at the south end of Milford Haven, is the entrance to Stutts Creek. If coming from the Piankatank (recommend) you'll have to open the Gwynn Is Bridge (VHF 13) to get to Milford Haven. We were told that the bridge is on demand 24/7. It was easy cruising through the swing opening and the Haven is nicely marked. The charts scared us a bit, but we proceeded feeling our way by the depth sounder. As it turned out, we entered at dead low tide and never saw less then 7 ft. There is a shorter route on the south end through the "Hole in the Wall", but this is not advised--too narrow and constantly changing according to locals. The Mathews Yacht Club is small and friendly. The club manager, Suzette, is very helpful and accomodating.
