Reviews for Matagorda Harbor Marina - City of Bay City
No frills but well placed, 2017-05-21
Captain: , United States (3192)

There are not a lot of stops along this strecth of the GIWW for a 6.5-knot boat. With our 6' draft they assigned us to the T-head closest to center-harbor and we had enough depth all the way in. Docks are in good shape with good power and water. Otherwise there are no amenities. A bait shop across the harbor has a few basic items. The restaurant on site is closed Wednesdays and that's the day we were there, so I can't comment on it.

Nice Dock Master...I think his name was Craig...helped us dock. We got in on a night the Restaurant was closed...will stay in this Marina again. I am giving the marina a 4 star rating due to condition of showers. Everything else deserves a 5 star...

Great City Marina, 2015-09-23
Captain: , Kemah, TX (234)

When you come in, the transient docks are on the bow. As of 9/21/2015 the first three (from the gate) on the east side and west side are transients. Harbor Master was great and helped tie up when we got in.

Nice municipal facility, 2015-08-30
Captain: , League City (194)

Stayed on 8/17/2015. Very nice for a municipal facility. Transient docks were situated east to west and with a 23kt south wind getting in was a challenge with our sailboat. The transient slips on the east side of the pier (the ones that share a fairway with the covered slips) are more shelterd from the south wind and I would recommend those first. Getting to the store and laundry was a challenge and requres a bit of a hike down a busy road. But with that said, Matagorda is a town of about 900 people, give or take, so one shouldn't expect lots of infrastructure. Bring provisions if you show up on Tuesday; many of the towns restaruants are closed.

This is a really nice marina, but the transient slips are double width without a divider. This could change, as the slips are fairly new. What got me was the location of the slips in reguard to the local store and the restrooms/showers. Well worth the $1 per foot, andreally I can use the exersize.

Convenient Stop, 2015-03-22
Captain: , Kemah, Tx. (145)

Nice floating docks and the price is right. Easy run to Sanctuary or Freeport from here.

Nice Facility, 2015-01-14
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (260)

Easy in and out, right off the ICW, but well protected from barge traffic slosh. The restrooms are ok, but the harbor is big and the fuel dock easy in and out.

Comfortable, convenient, good price, 2014-01-29
Captain: , San Marcos, TX (865)

Spent one night (11/28/13). Easy entry, right on the ICW. We arrived on Thanksgiving Day so everything was closed, but the Dockmaster Craig came down to the dock to make sure we were OK. Topped off fuel & water the next morning and were back on the ICW by 6:30am.

Good Stop for 1 night, 2013-06-20
Captain: , Corpus Christi (240)

We spent 1 night here. Called on radio when we arrived and dock master helped with lines.

The advertised pump out was not available as that area was under construction.

The washiteria is not at the marina but about 1/2 mile away. As such we chose not to use it.

The food in the resturant was good though more in-line with fish camp fare.

Somewhat disappointed this time, 2013-06-02
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1453)

We stayed here a couple of years ago when the transient slips were new and had a great experience. This trip, not so much. We called ahead the morning of our 1 night stay and got our slip assignment. When we arrived, no one was around to help us tie up and no one answered the phone. Office was closed although it was over an hour before their scheduled closing time. Had a hard time finding someone to pay. Hopefully we caught them on a bad day as other reviews are closer to our first experience.

Only 1 dog walking area with some weeds and grass; several "no dogs" signs elsewhere and a hot walk on asphalt to the approved area. Curiously, sign says not necessary to pick up after your dog. Make sure you get the gate code before leaving the dock area. Restrooms were clean, nothing fancy. Transient slips are very exposed to prevailing southeast wind.

Top rating for a good place in a perfect spot, 2012-11-26
Captain: , Kettering, Ohio (250)

The marina is just east of the bridge, a large deep entry staight in and transit docks are floating. Large basin makes easy in easy out. Craig very helpful, contacted him on phone. This is well placed coming west. Reasonable $ 1 a foot. Limited shopping.

Coming back from the Harvest Moon Regatta; I had broke a chain plate and was motoring doen the ICW. A clogged fuel filter further impaired our journey. Matagorda Harbor welcomed us in and let us repair our boat.

Nice and Resonable Transient Slip, 2012-06-15
Captain: , San Leon, Texas (246)

We called the harbor and told them we would be there after 9:00pm. Dock Master Dave said the new floating pier was all transient and we could pick any open slip we wanted and take care of things the next day. The harbor was well marked and lit and easy to enter. The floating slips were all brand new and in great condition with lots of cleats to secure your lines to. The transient dock is secured by a gate with combo lock.
Rate was $1.00 foot including water and electricty. Town is in biking distance. There is a small store on the property that also sells gas and diesel. Price of diesel was $3.65 the day we were there.

Transient Slips, 2012-04-15
Captain: , Corpus Christi Tx (411)

Visited with Craig Hlavinka, Harbor Master, and he said there are transient slips on the new floating docks. Great guy. In the past we have been permanent tenants for short terms.

Nice over night stay, 2011-12-21
Captain: , Port OConnor, Tx (628)

The resturant was closed but we did get pumped out, hot showers and a comfortable night rest. We'll stay here again.

and the restaurants good, too!, 2011-11-23
Captain: , Nassau Bay (185)

Stopped here for 1 night and was delighted with what we found. New floating dock for transient that was double-wide with no pole. Very grateful for the space with the screaming south with pushing us against the finger pier. Marina manager was there after hours and the price was very reasonable. After a long day, the Waterfront restaurant was wonderful. Really good stuffed flounder and the fried shrimp was as good as I've had anywhere. Try it....hope they stay in business.

New Floating Pier, 2011-06-29
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (85)

Marina personel here are always top-notch, and meet you at the dock to take lines. Showers clean and spacious. There is a great bait, fuel and ice store on premise. The restaurant is good - especially for seafood. And as of mid June 2011, there are floating docks with transient room available. Both 30 and 50 amp service available at the slips, and water. The seagulls apparently like the new docks too, so might have to do some hosing down. (Or just keep the shoes on the dock!)

We took a dinghy ride from here down the Colorado River, almost to the jetty. News is that a new jetty has been built within the old one, and City is hoping this gets return of the big boats to the marina. Good for the City, but always appreciated space available here whenever we needed it.

Matagorda Harbor Marina, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Scottsdale Arizona (67)

We have stopped here four or five times in the last three years in our 46 foot sailboat. This may be the best managed marina between Galveston and Port Aransas. Craig the manager is a real professional who answers his phone and radio, always meets the boats, makes sure power is on and working, and generally is most helpful. He is my nomination for the marina manager of the year in these waters! The only issue is the prevailing winds often pin you to the bulkhead, but the new floating pier with 20X50 slips should solve this problem. Craig tells me he is holding back six slips on the new pier for transients so there should most often be "room in the inn"

Great place to stop on this reach, not many alternatives!
the restaurant was good, no epicurian delight but good.
Stuff within walking or biking distance.

Great place to stop, 2009-11-01
Captain: , Solomons, MD (110)

We once spent an interesting week at Matagorda Harbor when flooding kept us from crossing either the Colorado or Brazos Rivers and we've had a soft spot for this marina ever since. The harbormaster and his staff are friendly and helpful, the facilities are clean and well kept and transient rates are quite reasonable. The free pump-out station is back in service. Ice, beer and a few grocery staples are available at the little store. We've never eaten at the restaurant but have heard that the food is excellent. Put out every bumper and fender board you can muster, then relax and enjoy this pleasant stop.

Matagorda Harbor Marina, 2009-07-21
Captain: , houston, tx (403)

Nice stop along the ICw between Brazos and Colorado rivers. Nice marina with accomodating staff. Water depth fine, 8+ feet. The prevalent wind has a strong southerly component and pushes boats up against the transient bulkhead. It is difficult to get off easily; requiring great fenders (and boards) along with savy use of prop walk and or thrusters. Plenty of room for groups. Store, fuel and restaraunt are all good. The restaraunt has very fresh and well prepared seafood at reasonable cost.

A gem., 2009-06-08
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (175)

Very friendly staff and most reasoable prices. There's not a lot to do around here, but it's a great place to spend the night on your boat and enjoy the amazing fried flounder at the restaraunt on site.

The transient slips are against a bulkhead with pilings. Be prepared with fender boards.

Great stop!, 2007-02-23
