Reviews for Masonboro Yacht Club and Marina
Try calling them, you might get lucky, but bring you check book, 2017-04-08
Captain: , Eastport, MD (532)

We came into Masonboro Inlet & started to call as soon as we had cell phone, but all the marinas in Wrightsville Beach were full, a festival going on. So we called Masonboro where we have stayed previously and the dockmaster David was able to put is on a T-head as the tenant was currently away. If a tenant is away for an extended period he will try to accomodate transients. You probably need to pay by check as we made the check out to the tenant, not the marina.

The bath rooms are currently under renovation, but very functional. Should be very nice once they are done.

Location is not super convenient, but worked out well for us. Uber ride to West Marine/grocery was about $12

transit dockage no longer, 2016-08-09
Captain: , Brockport NY (60)

Tried to get a slip today. When I called I was informed by the dock master that they no longer have transit dockage, that the yacht club has sold the t heads which were the transit slips. I have stayed many time at this marina and enjoyed the stay. I first went there in the late fall of 2005 when they had Yanmar technicians and a working yard. Times have changed.

Very nice marina with very friendly and helpful staff and residents, 2016-03-31
Captain: , Chicago (50)

The marina is well maintained and has nice docks and facilities. What makes it outstanding is the excellent manager/dockmaster Dave and his staff, and the nice residents. Dave made sure I got help coming in and docking, gave me a lift to Wilmington the next day, and a ride to the shops and propane refill. He also showed me how to find and shuck oysters. Jimmy, a long time resident, gave me a ride to a gas station to buy diesel and treated me for lunch. Neighbors were super friendly. I ended up staying there for three nights as everybody was so nice.

Good Facility with Friendly Staff, 2016-01-20
Captain: , Colorado (411)

Spent the night there a couple nights ago. Easy, piling marked channel right off the ICW with 6+ foot depths at mid-tide. Room for our cat on the T-head. Kevin (dockmaster) was very friendly and accomodating, helping us tie up. Bath house is clean and there are pay washers and dryers if needed. Someone mentioned municipal water, but Kevin claimed it was well water and when showering it had a bit of a sulfur smell. Not sure I would fill my tanks with it. Overall a nice place to spend the night on our trip. Would stop there again.

Nice quiet marina with a friendly staff, 2015-10-25
Captain: , Newport (490)

Enjoyed our stay at this very friendly marina. Lots of free hot peppers which we enjoyed with our eggs every morning. Plenty of showers, very protected and a nice laundry. The only disadvantage was the water had a sulfur smell in the showers.

Very helpful dockmaster, 2015-10-24
Captain: , Port Everglades (595)

I came limping in on one motor after hours and Dave returned from home to help me dock. Facilities and docks are excellent. There are three Tee heads for larger boats and several smaller slips. Mainly for yacht club members but frequently a transient slip is available. Call ahead ... cell phone or VHF 16. Good 50 amp power and municipal water on the dock. Very easy in and out from the ICW.

Great place for a stopover., 2015-01-27
Captain: , Washington, NC (30)

Nice facility for a transient stay with floating docks and clean facilities. Dave met us at the dock and helped pull us into a facedock in a brisk wind.

Friendly Dockmaster, 2014-11-23
Captain: , Toronto (22)

Decided to dock my Power cat here for a few weeks as no availabilty in the Wrightsville Marinas. David the dockmaster/owner met me on the dock perosnally after calling ahead and even drove me to a hotel in Wilmington. No extra charge for power. Great service.

Great Transient Stop with Helpful Dockmasters, 2014-08-20
Captain: , Lizella GA (1826)

Most of these slips are privately owned but there are a few open for transients. They were very helpful with docking and even allowed me to keep my truck and trailer there no charge while I sailed for a week. It tends to get busy on weekends since it is now a yacht club of mostly privatley owned or leased docks.

False advertising and rude customer service, 2014-07-29
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (20)

Don't bother unless you want to buy a slip (even then you might hate dealing with the people there). After visiting their website, I contacted the Masonboro Yacht club to make arrangements to rent a slip for a week in August. I spoke to a sales person who said I had to talk to one of the men out on the docks to rent a slip. I called and left messages with no reply. I finally heard back today and was told they have nothing to offer. I was told "We are sold out. Can't help you with a transient or rental slip. Call us next year" Fat chance of that. Found a great slip in Wrightsville at the Boat Tender. Agent was quick and efficient on the phone.

best spot in Wrightsville area, 2014-06-30
Captain: , Fernandina, FL (448)

Nice to be south and away from the Wrightsville bridge and congestion. Not many transient slips so make a reservation. David, dockmaster was great and offered ride and help with anything. Even had quarters for laundry. Nice shower and laundry. Not near too much. Can go for a walk in neighborhood and not be in traffic.

Nice marina but far from everything except ICW, 2013-11-15
Captain: , US East Coast (610)

decent marina with nice laundry / bathroom area - they even have a sewing machine for transients to use

got a lift to supermarket (too far to walk) on second day of our stay while we waited out the winds

friendly staff and only $1.50/ft

Nice Marina. Pricey., 2013-08-20
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (432)

Called these guys for a place for our trawler. 41 foot slip they charge $510 a month even with long term lease. Oriental area is about $250-$300 a month for same. Very Wrightsville in their pricing. Will likely look long term in points South.

I know Joyner and Southport run around $350 long term for similar accomodations.

All that said, this seems a nice place with good residents. Just more than I would pay for long term. Too freaking proud.

Great overnight stop, 2013-06-01
Captain: , Mullica Hill, NJ (688)

They have dredged the harbor to eight feet and the sandbar at the entrance is gone.
Close to the waterway and the best deal in the area. Clean heads and showers, nice floating docks, helpful staff and two washers and dryers. All this for less than anyplace in Wrightsville beach. The only thing missing is a nearby place to eat. Will stop again.

Masonboro Yacht Club and Marina, 2012-12-26
Captain: , Stuart Fl (300)

OCtober 2012 - It is always a pleasure stopping here. This year we stayed here to ride out Hurricane Sandy. The dockmaster put us on D dock bow into the wind. The concrete docks are very secure and we had no problems. The staff and other marina customers were very friendly offering to drive us for groceries if needed. We did find the local country store that had a little bit of everything about 1.5 miles away.

May 2012- Once again a good experience here. The dockmaster had the day off but his assistant was very competent and friendly. Took a walk off the property - not much around of interest. But the marina is quiet and peaceful. Easy access off ICW.

We like this place and have visited many times. There are only a few transient dock spaces so reservations are recommended. THe dockmaster is very friendly and very helpful. The docks are excellent concrete floating docks. Plan on cooking your own dinner because there is nothing in walking distance. Very peaceful and quiet. Easy access off the ICW.

Good value, great service, 2012-11-05
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (552)

We needed a comfortable spot after a long day dealing with NC bridges. We were late arriving but the dockmaster (David) waited for us. Next day we had mechanical problems and David was ready to run out to pick up a part. Floating docks were in great shape and access was easy. Great value, good people.

super cleasn and attractive facilaties, floating docks, yatch club

Hurricane Irene, 2011-08-31
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (60)

MBYC has been home base for us since 2008. This is an excellent marina for both permanent residents and transients. Our recent experience with Hurricane Irene only highlights the standard of excellence of the marina and it's employees. Dave, Kevin, and Taylor have incredible experience and commitment. We weathered the storm without a blemish to our boat and gear. The entire marina was in tip top shape and storm ready thanks to the leadership of our dockmaster and crew.

Great Over Night, 2010-12-15
Captain: , Solomons, MD (464)

Very helpful friendly staff. Clean facilities nice docks. Not close to stores or restaurants, but staff may take you. Nice overnight as reasonable priced alternative to Wrightsville Beach.

Great place, friendly people, will be here again!, 2010-11-10
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (85)

We stayed here for 10 days for a planned departure back home. The dockmaster couldn't be nicer, drove us to the airport. I'd give them 5 or more stars if there was a grocery store or restaurant within walking distance. I'm sure the dockmaster would take us there if we asked, but we felt we already impossed. 3 large t-heads for larger boats.

A good stop but watch the depth, 2010-11-05
Captain: , Baltimore (317)

We stopped here 10/2/2010. Kevin at the marina was very helpful. He drove our crew to get some food. There is not much in walking distance other than a restaurant or some gas stations. You need to get a ride to the walmart if you need supplies.

Be very careful getting in and out. We have a 6' draft. We hit ground coming in (Kevin had to help tow us off). You need to hug the red marker. About an hour after low tide, we tried to get out and hit ground again. Kevin had to tow us threw about a 10 foot low patch. I would not recommend this place if you have a 6' draft or more and need to get in or out at low tide.

Calm waters, concrete floating docks and quiet!, 2010-10-23
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (6077)

We had intended to stay at the Wrighsville anchorage but couldn't get in and then found this marina a little further along. I was surprised at how new and well kept the marina is. We were met by two dock hands and tied up professionally. The docks are first rate, concrete and floating - the best! There is no restaurant at the marina but there is onle 3/4 mile in town.

Why 5 stars, 2010-01-20
Captain: , English Harbour, Antigua, WI (25)

This is one of only 2 earning 5 stars in my log. It used to be a boat yard crammed with live-aboards and do-it-yourselfers and staffed byreally knowledgeable and friendlypeople. After a violent Hurricane which levelled everything standing, it was rebuilt as a Yacht Club, but don't let that fool you; the buildings have changed, but the people haven't.

Captain: , Sarnia (141)

Marina is in process of being upgraded. New docks, etc. Has previously been listed in publications as being a service facilty, but the service facility is no longer. Nice facility, pleasant staff, will need to use bicycles or taxis to get to restuarants/shopping/etc.
