Reviews for Maryland Marina
Good protection, but great restaurant, 2016-08-24
Captain: , Annapolis (264)

Stayed here as a transient, but also have a buddy who has a yearly slip here. The marina is not bad and never felt any wake from the passing boats in Frog Mortar Creek. The restaurant can get loud at night when they have live bands, so don't come here if looking for peace and quite. However, their beer is always cold and the food is fantastic - so be sure to join them. The marina docks are fixed concrete.

Very helpful staff, clean bathrooms, decent marina, very good adjacent restaurant, 2015-07-28
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (201)

I spent three days there as a transient. Very nice restaurant (Sunset Cove) on property (although separate ownership). Docks are old, fixed, concrete - but adequate. A little sparse on water hook-ups, but I was able to find one within the reach of my hose. Bathhouse is a bit of a walk from the south side (marina is split into two sides with the restaurant in the middle). Price was very reasonable and staff was very helpful.

I would stay there again.

Happy Customer of 15 years, 2015-03-18
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek, Middle R., Chesapeake (420)

This family owned marina has been here about 75 years, same considerate and service-minded family. Sure, i'd rather have floating docks; but, the other amenities and comradery make this place hard to leave. We've been here 15 years and many others longer. The owners are most responsive to customers comments and requests.
Transients are welcome or there is good anchoring across the creek - a good anchorage on weekends. For shopping, here is a hint: take you boat or dink up the creek to Chespeake Yachting Center (mostly power but with good fuel prices,) the Walmart shopping center is behind the marina. They have good fuel prices.
The Sunset Cove Restaurant, on premises, has inside dining and a sand beach as well. Food has been very good.
Sign me, not leaving yet.

My home marina, 2013-02-12
Captain: , Middle River, MD (192)

I've been here several years and I don't really see a strong need to move. It is a comfortable, well maintained, and generally quite friendly place to keep a boat. The bath house is pleasant and well kept with several shower stalls. There is a nice park like area with a pavilion (sometimes rented out) and a nice play area for children. The boat store is pretty well stocked with most things you might need, including a sailing hardware selection that sure seems bigger than their big name competitor. I do most of my own maintenance so I can't speak to the value or quality of the work they do; but I haven't heard any complaints.

Others have complained about the difficulty in docking, and for certain it can be a challenge. The concrete docks are pretty well bumpered, though, and I haven't had any boat scars as a result. The preferred docking method is to back into the slip. To do it the other way would make getting on and off the boat a challenge. With my sub 30 foot boat I find it easiest to just get the stern of the boat between the appropriate pilings and use the guide lines to pull the boat into position. It's not always pretty; but so far it has always worked. Be aware that the fairway by the restaurant gets pretty shallow near the restaurants dock. If you have any draft to speak of and it isn't near high tide it might be better to hug the slip side of the fairway.

I'm not sure what their attitude is towards transient boaters as they really seem setup towards being a "home base" marina. As a result, having a couple mile walk to Wal-Mart for groceries, or much further for a traditional grocery store, doesn't seem like a big problem for most people. If you are popping in for supplies, though (and assuming you can arrange a transient slip), you may find yourself frustrated.

Besides the very busy Sunset Cove restaurant/bar onsite (with live music Fri/Sat/Sun on the outside tiki bar area), there are a couple other places a mile or so down the road, and a pretty useful strip mall area near the Wal-Mart two or three miles away with fast food, a hardware store, Autozone, and a self serve health club that you can pay for by the day.

Loud, tough slips, nice staff, 2013-01-16
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

I'm a local and visit this marina often to go to the restaurant. It was called Wild Duck Cafe but is under new ownership and now called Sunset Cove. The marina is still Maryland Marina. I have visited friends who have slips here and also had to have some repairs done recently that took 2 weeks so I had a temporary slip for that. The concrete docks are dangerous to fiberglass and gel coat! Be sure to tie up carefully for wind and tide. The restaurant is very popular and often has boats tied 3 deep to its floating pier. It is a fun place and food is pretty good. You just need to know its pretty noisy and yes there is a small airport nearby. Also, it is about 20 minutes inside the weekend no wake zone.

Slip for 2011 Season (updated), 2012-08-09
Captain: , Port Deposit, MD (302)

2012, now in 2nd season and still like it here. The marina is family owned and operated and they go out of their way to be helpful.

I recently moved my boat to this facility for the 2011 sailing season. To date the staff has been very helpful. In addition it is a very nice marina with full ammenities.

Try it, you'll like it. By the way, the restaurant has good food and service as well.

Love the planes, 2012-06-17
Captain: , North Fort Myers, FL. (268)

Had a slip here and enjoyed the stay. You are next to the airport but it was not as noisey as you would thing. It was mostly small planes and the airguard. I enjoyed the show. The owner was friendly and helpful and the marina was kept in good condition.

Great ships store, wonderful folks to deal with, 2012-04-13
Captain: , Bowleys Quarters, MD (160)

I've no experience with their marina or slips per se, but they've always been a great parts or gear source when I've needed something, and priced right as well. I can't recall them not having something I needed. Very friendly and cordial family run operation and always willing to offer assistance or opinion when requested.

Nice Marina - slips are a challenge., 2011-11-26
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (275)

Separate sailboat and motor boat areas. Great lawns and facilities.
Concrete docks with NO protection. Non floating.
We were given an outside slip. The slips have a tiny 6' platform and posts. With a crosswind and little experience it was tough getting in especially as there were no lines on the posts. No help was available, it was off season but it would not have helped anyway.
Watching the regulars, it appears that lots of practice is needed to back in.

Cleats on the dock took some finding. They are under the dock!

Good ships store. Long walk down the docks to bathrooms and office.
Rather pricy, no lounge or courtesy car.

The boatyard has a good reputation, a friend is rebuilding his boat there and the boat storage area is convenient for working on the boat.
Long motor to get to open water. Follow the charted channel going in,

The chart mentions a height limitation due to the airport nearby. The marina said there was a number to call but there has been no answer for 3 years. Saw many tall masted vessels.

Very friendly

Great family run working Marina. The Wild Duck Cafe has live music on weekends during the summer and can get loud but they cease at 11pm.

Great Staff, 2011-06-22
Captain: , Deale, MD (70)

I purchased a sailboat and used the Maryland Marina for the short haul survey. They recommended a very thorough surveyor (Gary Kerr %u2013 / 410-382-9571) and were incredibly accommodating when the boat was on the hard %u2013 even coming back from their lunch break to reposition it.

Excellent marina, 2010-10-28
Captain: , Middle River. MD (10)

Family operated for 60 yrs. Very friendly and helpful. Rates are competitive. Full service yard. Allows owners to work on their boats.

Great sailboat marina, 2010-02-21
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek, Middle River MD (63)

Maryland Marina is a great place to keep your sailboat. The marina is well kept, and managed by a family that has been doing this all their lives. The location while not close to the bay is close to the river, which is wide enough to sail in. They have a very well equiped marina and ships store. Also mentioned is the Wild Duck Cafe which of this writing is back up and running. The marina does lack access to food and basic supplies. Walmart is about 2 miles up the road and is walkable if you have time. Marina services are a bit pricy.

Large marina with some useful facilities, 2009-07-23
Captain: , Baltimore (346)

Maryland Marina is one of the largest in Middle River (about 400 slips?). It is a bit far from the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay but well-protected. It has also some facilties that the smaller marinas in Middle River do not offer, notably, they do step and unstep masts up to about 50' height.

Nice place to keep vessel, 2009-05-19
Captain: , Brant Beach, NJ (50)

Maryland Marina is a nice place to keep your boat. I was there for nearly five years. The marina has a nice park-like setting and most boat owners are friendly. The marina has areas for sail and power, which I liked (being a sailboater). Slips are generally easy to access. It has a restaurant/bar on site, but that may have closed. Good to have that close, but could be noisy at night. Location is not in the best part of town, but aside from an outboard that was taken off my stored sailboat over the winter, I didn't see any other problems. It's a bit of a motor to the bay, though - 15 mins to the river, then another 30 to the bay at least.
