The Fish House Grocery Store is a small but well-stocked grocery store rarely mentioned in the cruising guides but known through the locals. The name implies it is just a fish market (which is how it started out many years ago). It has larger quantities of items (e.g., gallon cans of baked beans, 10 pound tube of frozen ground beef, 10 pound bag of frozen chicken breasts) as well as more normal quantities.

It is located at the approximate location:
26.55116118/-077.04949121.

The store is part of the Skagg's Import/Export Company in the industrial area of the eastern shore. Seeing the working boats and warehouses from the water side, you would not think to dinghy into this area looking for groceries. Just pick an empty space at the docks (stay away from the industrial wharf) and walk 100 yards to the store.

Maxwell's, an american style supermarket, located in downtown Marsh Harbor. You can walk there and, if you buy too much, take a taxi back ($8, 2013).

Hardware

Yes - Standard Hardware, about a 200 yard walk from the Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club maintained dinghy dock on the opposite side of the harbor, has just about everything one would want. Also a NAPA and Ace Hardware are about a half mile walk into town.

Restaurants

Yes - Dinner nights - Wednesdays and Saturdays. Lunch Wednesday through Saturday.

Reviews for Marsh Harbour Marina - Jib Room
Best marina in the Abacos (maybe the Out Islands too!), 2016-08-23
Captain: , Annapolis (264)

Great service. Great food. And friendly people. Love this place. The bathrooms are clean and there is always cold beer. Never had a problem and the staff seem to go out of your way to help. Will continue to come back when in the area.

***Credit Card Fraud***, 2016-08-16
Captain: , Middle River MD (10)

Had rib night dinner with friends in February. Was happy with dinner, service, the whole thing......until I opened my credit card bill and saw they tacked an additional $50 tip onto the $30 tip that I had written on the bill. Guess it was easy to change the 3 to an 8. So be wary if you charge your dinner. And given that there are other posted reviews of this restaurant with similar experiences, I would recommend staying away from this place entirely. There are many other wonderful places to eat in Marsh Harbor that are run by honest people - give them your business instead!!!
UPDATE - My credit card company credited my account for the disputed amount. The Jib Room apologized for their mistake.

The Best in MH, 2016-07-17
Captain: , Wrightsville beach, NC (304)

Excellent staff; very accomodating. Good facilities, much quieter than marinas on south side of harbor. Wednesday and Saturday evening BBQs are first rate food. Flat daily rate for all the water you can use.

Enjoyed our stay, 2016-06-15
Captain: , Chicago, IL (998)

We've been using the Jib Room as our base for cruising South of the Whale for the past month (.65/ft). Fixed wood docks in good shape; nice pool area; laundry has seen better days (but they sit outside, so no surprise; $5/each); showers are roomy, clean & maintained; wifi weak at the far end of the docks (even with a booster), but most folks went to the picnic tables to access. If you stay long term you pay a flat rate/month for water. Do not miss Chef Marvin's ribs on Wednesday nights, after dinner a 'saw' band entertains everyone and you can limbo with Desmond. Lunch is served W-Sa.Tom & Linda run a great marina and their staff (Steven, Jason & Francesca) are friendly and helpful. Short bike or dinghy ride to a small grocery store (just the basics). Longer bike/dingy ride to Maxwells groceries if you need to reprovision, and you'll pass a couple of hardware stores along the way. Easy walk to the beach to access Mermaid Reef. Power seems to go out at least once/week, but that's a Bahamas thing not a Jib Room thing. We draw 4'6" and saw 4-6' under us at MLW in the channel and dockside. It's quiet on this side of the harbour, but we like that. We'll return some day. Update: Checked out 6/13/16 - no surprises on our bill!

Dear Beware, 2016-05-04
Captain: , Marsh Harbour, Bahamas (10)

Dear "Beware", We make it known to all our guests checking out there is a exchange rate for all US, Canada credit cards and checks (long term guests pay with checks). When checking out we give the customer the option to pay with cash or credit card and explain there is a fee. It also clearing states this on Active Capt. "Credit Card Fee". My except apologies for this misunderstanding.

Beware of fraudulent charges, 2016-05-01
Captain: , nederland (10)

Beware! This is the only place we've found after 3 months in the Bahamas where there is not a 1:1 exchange rate with the US dollar. The restaurant is pretty good, and Wednesday and Sunday they throw a good party, but they also charged our Visa $56 for something called "US exchange," and when confronted, refused to reverse the charge, insisting that the exchange rate is different when you don't pay in cash.

expenses will creep up on you., 2016-04-14
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

Staff is really nice. Nominal price per foot. $20 for water, so you may as well wash your boat down and fill the tanks. Great Rib dinner on Wednesday night for $32 plate, then a couple of drinks. Fuel was $4.21, but very convenient. Then electric, but no more than anyone else. Many cruisers, drop the hook less than a few hundred yards away, then use the dinghy to come in. Provisioning at Maxwells can be reached by bicycles that they provide, but take a map so you don't get lost.

Great people, 2015-12-21
Captain: , Fort Collins, CO (20)

We sailed in on Nov 14 and had to fly back to the States the next day. When I returned 1 month later I was pleased to see my boat in great shape & cleaner than when I left it. The facilities are excellent. The food is great and the staff is fantastic. I draw 6.5' and had no problem at mid tide. It's a very quick dinghy or bike ride over to town & supplies. I'm very glad that I am here.

A great stop, 2015-12-11
Captain: , Connelly N.Y. (343)

Don't miss rib or steak night at this facility which is protected and convenient to shopping in Marsh Harbour. Boat US discounts are offered as well making this one of the best deals in Marsh.
Good food and a great staff. Always a good time at either their steak or rib nites!

not transient friendly?, 2015-11-10
Captain: , Portland, Maine (30)

Having been one of those regulars for over 15 years now I can't let the one bad comment sour the otherwise glowing comments here. I know Linda and Tom personally and can assure the reader that no one has been treated rudely or unfair even if they were complete jerks. Occasionally a boat load of newbies get intoxicated and maybe rude but the owners promptly deal with it. This is a family run, family and transient friendly destination for a slew of us "snow birds". There is a reason they fill up first and have a very stable portfolio of returning guests. Lina, Tom, Stephen, Jason, and now Bradley are some of the nicest people we know. The facility is the best in the Abacos for our boat. We have always received service and attention beyond anything experienced in our 30 plus years cruising. We annually meet transients that ultimately become friends even if their itineraries take them away. The person writing that review was obviously having a bad day! Best Marina in Marsh Harbour , 2015-06-23
Captain: , Clearwater Beach (11)

We have been coming to Marsh Harbour Marina since 5 years. The owners run the marina themselves and have the best staff I have seen in the Bahamas.
If there is a problem you will be helped if that is at all possible.
The Marina is at the quiet and pretty side of Marsh Harbour but you can still access the shops easily via dinghy, bicycle or taxi.
The docks are in good repair and seem to be very secure. The location to the north side of the Marsh Harbour bay helps to protect from the prevailing northeaster breezes during winter and spring.
We often entered the bay at 25+ knot winds and found 15 knots or less at the dock.

Not transient friendly, 2015-05-15
Captain: , Yorktown, VA (952)

This is a great, reasonably priced family owned marina with a pool, nice showers, restaurant, and bar with good food. Unfortunately, we will not return because of the owner%u2019s attitude. We had two unfortunate incidents.
We were with another boat, the woman left the bar to return to the boats when some very lewd, disgusting behaviors ensued from another boat. The owner was contacted immediately and her attitude was not what we had expected. She said she would speak to them in the morning since they were drunk (good idea) but she said that they had never had any problems with them and they came yearly and stay for months. She actually told us that they were only there for a week or two and they were regulars which did not make us feel very welcome as transients. The next evening as we were walking back to the boat, a very disguising, gross comment was made and we received the same response from the owners. It is a shame that transients are not made to feel welcome and to feel unsafe on the dock and even back on the boat.
We were waiting for weather to improve and had made reservations for a week or two. Five days into our stay, we were told our slip was rented to a boat that comes in every year and stays several months but they would move us to another slip. We totally understood and ask every day where they wanted us because we wanted to get moved as the winds were increasing daily. On day 10 we were leaving to take a walk and were advised we had to leave that morning because they could not accommodate us. We were quite surprised as they had assured us they would have a place for us. They gave us no assistance in finding another marina and we had to leave our friends on two other boats. Fortunately, the Conch Inn Marina had a slip and it was a great experience. (See review at Conch Inn).

Great Service, Great Price, 2015-04-18
Captain: , New Bern, NC (476)

Been staying here everytime we come to Marsh Harbour. The staff is wonder. 85 cents a foot with BoatUS discount. Water is city water and can be a little over clorinaned like some US citiy waters can. However, with most filters can filter it out to drink it. Jib room still has Steak night on Sat and Weds is Rib/chicken night. Best in the Abacos. Echo what all the others have said about beach, groceries and repairs. Also bikes on premise to use.

Great place and Jason is wonderful, 2015-02-25
Captain: , Toronto (230)

easy in out with Jason the dockmaster helping and he checks every boat every morning.
The beaxh is across the road with a great reef.
A short walk for supplies at Skags however the walk to town is long.
Dingy across the harbour and tie up at Mangrove Marina or rhe town dock for a short walk to everything.
The place is usually packed so make a reservation we left for a few weeks and couldn't get a slip upon our return.
Jib room is great with events and planned activitys you can choose to attend.

BEST SHOW IN TOWN, 2014-12-23
Captain: , Montreal, PQ, Canada (560)

Great marina, everything you need right there; clean restrooms/showers, good water, great bar, laundry facilities. We left our boat there for one month. There are cheaper places in the Abacos, but Jason, the dockmaster, offers a daily checkup to your lines, etc... service hard to match.

Best Marina In Mahsh Hahbah, 2014-10-29
Captain: , Gainesville, Florida (195)

There has to be a reason that they stay full the entire season with folks that come back year after year! Friendly service, reasonable rates, extremely well-maintained facilities, GREAT Jib Room food (esp. Chef Marvin's Ribs on Wed nites), beautiful pool - and just a short dink ride to the hustle and bustle of downtown MH. Whatever you need, just ask Stephen or Jason, and they will make it happen - with a smile. If you're in the Abacos and don't stay here at least a few days - then you don't know what you're missing!

great place to stay!, 2014-06-16
Captain: , San Diego (300)

Hard to beat 85 cents a foot. I suppose one reason is that its across the harbor from all the shopping but I had a bike so no big deal! One of the plusses is that it is across from the town so its quiet! Mermaid reef is a short walk and has very scenic snorkeling. Go up the hill from the marina turn right, a short walk will bring you to a fenced off area, walk past that and there is good beach acess. The jib room has a typical menu but there is a baby back rib night on Wed and a steak night on Sundays.

Really enjoyed our stay!, 2014-06-06
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2709)

Besides the great rate of $0.85 per foot for 2+ nights, we enjoyed their nice pool and very clean and attractive baths and showers. The staff is great and we really loved the Sat steak night (must make reservations).

The only negative was the water we took on. It was definitely not very good (tasted salty) and we could not drink it or use it for making soda, tea, etc.

Very nice marina on the quiet side of the harbour, 2014-02-05
Captain: , Ottawa (1173)

This is a very nice marina, with very nice staff. We hear that the rib night and steak night are good, but we weren't able to try them out.

If you need any small work done they have some great boat techs working out of the marina. We had to have an alternator problem sorted, and a tech named Andrew came aboard and had us up and running in very short order.

In addition, if you are coming in just for a water refill they charge $0.30 per gallon.

Great people make this place special, 2013-07-14
Captain: , Hamilton (338)

We left our cat CareFree here for 6 weeks while we returned home for work commitments. Everyone associated with the marina and the Jibroom restaurant made this an easy and fun process. The facilities are spotless, the location is great, there is a great pool and the food at the restaurant is wonderful - too bad they're not open for more dinners!

Feels like home..., 2013-06-28
Captain: , Melbourne, Florida (81)

Family run, nice, clean, comfortable marina. This marina is for cruisers.

Good food, nice dinners on Wed (Ribs night) & Sat (Steak night). After dinner check out the Rake & Scrape and Desmond doing the Limbo.

Great place to just hang and enjoy the breeze or pool.

Laundry facilities, clean showers.

Nice Place, Nice People, 2013-04-05
Captain: , Vero Beach (527)

A bit removed from services, but if you don't need them, no worries. Taxi's to the other side of the harbour shouldn't be more than $3-5 per person as far as Maxwells.

The bar is very well run and the folks quite friendly, but if you really like fish this is not the place to order it. Stick with the beef.

Definitely worth the ride to the Other Side, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Cleveland, OHio (421)

That is their motto and it is completely true. This is in my top two places that we have every cruised in the past three years( that is from Ohio to Bahamas to Maine, back to the Bahamas, total of 27 months)

This is a family run place and everybody feels like they are part of the Jib Room Family. From Jason the dock master, Tom, Steven, and Desmond, they work to make sure that your needs are taken care of. Go to the Wed and Sat night dining experience and watch Desmond doing some amazing limbo moves.

The cruisers have fun together. Three tables of dominoes was happening during our stay at the end of March.

We will be returning next week for another week.

Simply the best., 2013-03-30
Captain: , Trenton ON (668)

If you are planning on going to Marsh Harbour , you have to stay at the Jib Room. It is simply the best! We came for a month and ended up staying for 3!!! The staff are amazing and the owners treat you like family and can never do enough for you.
The food is great (my favorite is the conch club!!) Be sure and treat yourself to the Baby-back Rib dinner on Wednesday evenings and Kalik-marinated steak dinners on Saturday nights. On those nights they also have rake 'n scrape, the limbo man performing and dancing. Every thursday evening is happy hour and pot-luck which includes the boaters from the anchorage.
The bathrooms are clean and beautifully decorated. The pool is lovely and even on a windy day is nice and protected.
If you like to snorkel, the protected Mermaid Reef is a short walk across the road for some of the best underwater life.
Shopping is just a dingy ride across the bay where you can use the Government dingy dock to tie to.
I honestly can't tell you how much we enjoyed our stay with at The Jib Room, but we will be back next season and look forward to meeting back up with the wonderful friends we made there during our stay.

Jib Room is Family Atmosphere, 2013-03-27
Captain: , Millsboro, DE (60)

Great Service and food

outstanding, 2013-02-18
Captain: , Galesville, MD (246)

We came here rather than the marinas closer to town because we wanted protection from a stiff NE breeze. But as stated in previous reviews, there are many good reasons to come here. Steak night was a real treat. To reprovision, we walked to Maxwell's (about 1.7 miles), shopped, then took a taxi back to the marina ($10 for the taxi). It's also possible to dinghy across the harbor to a public dock about 4 blocks from Maxwell's.

Got to like this place, 2013-01-16
Captain: , Annapolis (125)

This was one of the nicest marina we stayed on our whole trip. At .85 a foot, WiFi included, a fun bar and resturant, Pot Luck dinners, the least expensive diesel I've found so far and $15 flat rate for water. No wonder a lot of the cruisers there call this their base for 3 months at a time.

5 Stars Plus!, 2012-12-24
Captain: , Annapolis (70)

Can't say enough about the warm hospitality, fun atmosphere and good drinks/food at the Jib Room. It's our second season here and love it!

We'd live here if we could!, 2012-11-17
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL, USA (510)

What a wonderful marina! Owners Tom and wife Boo are onsite and make you feel like one of the family. Jason may be one of the best dockmasters ever, and my wife says she's never been in a more beautiful, well appointed and clean shower room in any marina. The JibRoom opens tonight, and we look forward to a cookout with NY Strips, all the fixins and dancing in the garden. Many of the boaters here have been coming for years. We've been on the other side of the Harbour in the past. From now on, this is the only place we'll be tying up in Marsh Harbour.

Friendly marina, good restaurant, 2012-06-20
Captain: , Orlando (224)

We stayed here twice during our month long Abacos trip for guests to embark, etc. The marina facilities are decent (a little past their "sell-by" date), but everything worked. Good power, water and internet.

The scene around the restaurant and bar was the most friendly of any of the marinas we stayed in. You will quickly make some new best friends there. We chose to have dinner for the Saturday night steak dinner (chicken and fish also available) and was pleastly surprized with how good everything was. Steven makes your stay (too) easy, as you just order a drink while at the pool and it's automaticly added to your tab (it makes it easy to be "overserved"). Same with the dinner and drinks Saturday night- nothing to sign; just walk in, eat, drink and leave.

Mermaid Reef is right across the road (we were not able to go due to winds and choppy seas during our visit). Just walk over; no boat ride required.

Dont miss steak night at Jib Room, 2012-06-12
Captain: , Nashville, TN (290)

Open air restaurant is a gathering place on Saturday night for steak night. Food is OK but the evening is an event. Live entertainment with the saw players and the limbo man.

Great spot, 2012-05-18
Captain: , Phoenix (580)

We went in here to do a little recharging and to repair a thermostat and was very well treated. The family run businessis is greatl Everyone is helpful and the people in the marina slips are nice also. Had a great time and wonderful drinks at the bar. Good prices as stated in details. We stayed two extra nights due to stormy weather. Just a little more than a mooring ball.

Wonderful marina in Marsh Harbor, Abacos, 2012-04-04
Captain: , Vienna, VA (95)

My first visit here and without a doubt not my last! The staff could not be more hospitable and helpful. Price of dockage during our stay was the cheapest we have found in the Bahamas... awesome restaurant (Jib Room) with Wednesday and Saturday night dinner specials - not to be missed!
We look forward to returning to the Marsh Harbor Marina in the future...

Best marina in Marsh Harbor, 2012-04-04
Captain: , Solomons, MD (882)

This family-run marina is the best and most reasonable we have found in the Bahamas. The facilities are in good shape and the staff is as friendly and professional as you will find anywhere. Wednesday's rib nights and Saturday's steak nights are nearly legendary, but the introduction we had to the marina was their Thursday "pot-lucks" for all cruisers in the area. A great idea and wonderful way to meet fellow cruisers.

Great place to stay, 2012-03-11
Captain: , Boothbay Harbor, Maine (310)

We stayed here for several weeks. Tom and Linda (co-owners) are friendly, helpful and lots of fun. Can't say enough good things about this place - very fairly priced, congenial, excellent staff, friendly bar!

It's a haven, 2011-06-19
Captain: , N Fort Myers, Florida (516)

We stayed here a week while having parts shipped in. The staff is extremely helpfull, giving us advice to save money on this expensive part.

One of the best in Marsh Harbour..., 2011-04-13
Captain: , San Francisco CA (1301)

We've stayed in the marina only one night, but when anchored in the harbour have used their showers and laundry regularly (for a small fee). The Jib Room's special dinners are worth attending, especially on rib night. Once they get to know you, it's like family.

Did get some bad fuel here in 2010 ... water in the fuel we put in jerry cans for our trip home resulted in algae before we ever got it in the main tank, which led to a fuel polish later.

What ever you need is in Marsh Harbor, 2011-04-09
Captain: , Wilmington Deleware (330)

This is a great marina and has a very nice staff. One can walk to town from this marina, but a long way to haul groceries. Mermaid Rocks is a great beach and a good snorkle spot. The Jib Room is a fun spot to relax after a tough day at the beach!

Jib Room Is The Best, 2011-04-05
Captain: , Panama City, Florida (511)

We have stayed here a couple times and have friends that spend the winter here. A very pleasant marina with a pool, bar, laundry, showers, dinghy dock, etc. Rates are reasonable for the Abacos. Very cruiser friendly. The staff is great and will go out of their way to help. There is a small community of long term tenants who are very welcoming. We came in once with a battery charger issue and at least three cruisers I barely knew came by and offered to loan me a charger. The staff helped us with having the new charger shipped here from the US. Hope to stay here again next season.

Jib Room Says It All, 2011-03-03
Captain: , Shelter Island, NY (211)

Reasonably priced except for electric at .85kwh Family run operation with weak WIFI at the boat. However while the bar at the Jim Room is only open sporatically, you can sit there and pound away on your computer. Dingy across the harbour to the government dingy then walk to a super grocery store, hardware store etc.

Marsh Harbor Marina, 2011-02-23
Captain: , Madison, Ohio (400)

Well protected clean and friendly marina, Boat US discount. It is across the harbor from town, but just a short dingy ride.

It's on the other side of the harbor from the hustle and bustle but still an easy dinghy ride to civilization. Friendly. Many seasonal slip holders. The Saturday night steak dinner is spectacularly good!
