Reviews for Marine Services Corp.
Convenient Stop after O'Brien Lock, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

This is to correct the previous review about Marine Services Corp. not accepting transients. I've stayed here 3 times so I called today 08-22-16 and spoke with "Brian" who assured me that if they have room they are happy to have transients. The only time they may not have room is if they are in the midst of the haul out/launch season for storing boats for the winter in their sheds.

I must agree with other reviewers. Very nice folks in a struggling area in the rust belt. Not a spot to bike the neighborhoods. Courtsey vehicle a nice addition to get to a grocery in Doltan. Make sure you know how to operate the secruity access gate.
Back again, 07-08-13. All the above still applies. This is a strategic point to head south thourgh the Fish Barrier which is closed when under construction. A new supermarket came to Dolton Pete's Fresh Mart! Rivals Wagmans. Great fresh produce et al.

Wow they can be rude, 2016-06-06
Captain: , Beaver Island, MI (291)

I give a two rather than one as last Oct we stopped in for a staging after a rough Lk Mi (8-10 footers all day) and found it to be a safe easy in and out kind of place. No real amenities but a good staging point.
Today however heading up I called to reserve tommorrow and got a really rude (sounded young) man who only said "we are not taking transients". I asked if we could just go on the end of the tee late and be off early and he firmly said "no" and ended the conversation.
I was shocked by his attitude but it is clear this is not a place you can count on and certainly not a place you want to do buisness.

Good overnight stop, 2015-08-26
Captain: , Fort Worth, TX (450)

This is a good stop to stage next leg to Joliet. Strong sturdy docks, good depth, no frills, mainly a boatyard, easy in and out. AGLCA discount. $1.35/ft, electrical included. Wifi was poor. Small green space to walk dog. Good electric and water. Friendly service. Courtsey car available.

Good Marina to stage that pesky fish barrier, 2014-09-05
Captain: , Bay Point Marina, Marblehead, OH (180)

We are staying overnight so that we can transit the fish barrier on a Saturday morning. Marine Services is a good marina to stay over night. Bridget, in the office, is excellent. She has much information and very willing to answer your questions. We used the courtesy car to go to an awesome grocery store called Petes Fresh Market. That market is quite the place with everything you could possibly need. The vegetables area, deli and the meat counters were substantial.

Interesting stop, 2014-09-02
Captain: , Austin, TX (877)

We stayed here on a holiday weekend, Sunday night. Lots of locals who play their RAP music loud. We called ahead for a slip assignment, no marina staff on premises over the weekend. Bridget was very helpful to accommodate us over the phone. This is a good stop to stage for the run to Joliet. Felt safe here, did not use any of the facilities, except for power and water, so I don't know what might be available.

This is a working boat yard with good depth and power

good stop , 2013-08-07
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

If you need a stop I n this area this is the only one to consider. We pulled in on a Sunday and they were closed. Nice docks and I saw larger boats so I knew plenty of depth, min 8 feet. Landfill adjacent but downwind during our stop. A local boater helped us tie up, very friendly. Floating docks so fenders low. I am told courtesy car, nothing within walking distance besides busy rail lines.

The best in support, 2013-04-26
Captain: , Louisville KY (408)

We purchased our 420AC from Elite Yacht, co-owned by this marina. The marina staff went out of their way to help us ensure every detail was looked at before we began a nearly 1000 mile nautical trip to bring her home. Special thanks go to two outstanding service people, JR Walsh, manager of service/parts department and Tony, the technician that saved our bacon on several occasions, both at the yard and on our voyage home. How many marine techs do you know that will give you their cell number and tell you to call them anytime?! We were allowed to stay at the transient dock for two days as we prepped to leave and were not charged. Excellent showers and a courtesy car. Staff will do anything possible to acomodate you.

Marine Services, 2013-02-06
Captain: , Marinette, WI (34)

The staff is nice, shop rate is very high but most of their customers are from Chicago using Marine Services for winter storage. Huge above ground landfill within smelling distance, propane cannons to scare off seagulls can be annoying. Definately "rust belt" area, nothing scenic about the river but the marina is clean.

Friendly Staff, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Oshkosh , WI (194)

Nice staff and nice to be able to have a loaner car. Negotiated for price up front before coming to marina since we needed to stay a week. Much appreciated them being reasonable. Be sure to go to Pete's Fresh Market for groceries- one of the best. Enterprise close for car rental and Midway is the closest airport. It is not in a senic neighorhood but it worked for us. It is gated but be sure before you leave you have someones cell number you can call to get back in! Sometimes people take the key card and they dont replace it.

Good marina and great repair service, 2011-10-04
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (141)

Stayed for 4 days following a grounding incident at Mile post 307 on south side of channel. First rate prop shop near by and the marina dropped everything to get us back in perfect running condition. Very fair cost for the repairs.
