Reviews for Marina on the Bay
An OK second choice..., 2015-09-13

since Liberty Landing could not ammodate us, we ventured into Sandy Hook for the first time. Current was ripping, as was the wind from the cross direction. Gave up trying to get between two pilings to land on a 33' finger and took the outside perimeter. Never been to a place where the "5 mph - no wake" was more disregarded. In the future, we will try to secure reservations at Liberty Landing to avoid another out of the way detour to Sandy Hook (Highlands).

Typical Overpriced parking spot., 2012-10-24

If you were staying here for just a few nights as a transient it may not be bad, but one season was enough for me.

There is very good protection from wakes and waves, and it is pretty close to a few restaurants and a West Marine, but...

The marina is very small and tight to maneuver a larger boat in, although there is at least no current to deal with. They have all fixed docks and the tide swing in Highlands has to be a good 4 feet, maybe even more. Most of the time this isn%u2019t a problem, but when Nor%u2019easters start hitting at the end of the summer, it%u2019s nearly impossible to adjust your lines to compensate for the entire tide cycle. You need to be aboard and readjust them periodically, or come home a broken stern rail and light, as I did.

With the prices they charge, they should provide wi-fi, but they don%u2019t. The marina parking lot is also small, and filled with a lot of boats on trailers and stands, so sometimes it%u2019s impossible to find a spot when the weekend warriors show up. As nice as the bathrooms are since they put the new tile in, it would be nicer if they%u2019d just keep them stocked with toilet paper.

At the end of the season, they were planning on putting in floating docks. They sent me a new contract, that if I didn%u2019t pay months in advance, the price was going up. A few months later, after the season started, with a half empty marina, after I told them I was just going to anchor out all summer, and without even putting the new docks in, they sent me another contract renewal, with the exact same offer. When I did need a slip for a few days, even as a former seasonal customer, no one returned my phone calls about a transient.

Took a look today., 2012-09-05

We looked at the place as we went for fuel today. Seems full but space was available on the t heads. Ferry service next door makes it seem as wakes could be a problem. We passed and stayed at the fuel dock of a different marina. Rode our bikes by later to confirm we made the right choice.
