Reviews for Marina de Lagos
The town is not good for biking, 2016-08-06
Captain: , Nynashamn (240)

I agree with what others have written about the marina.
This marina was one of the alternatives for my stay during the winter, but after biking around some days, I decided to find another winter harbour. There is absolutely nothing made to make it easy to bike. The traffic is intensive and I don´t think it´s possible to survive 4 moths on a bike. I reduce the rating with one star because of this.

Well sheltered, plenty to do in the area, slightly expensive marina, 2014-08-13
Captain: , London, UK (295)

The marina staff were friendly and helpful, speaking very good English. Lagos is a nice town to visit. There is a popular beach, plenty of bars and restaurants and anything else you might expect from a town.

Good transport links to the rest of the Algarve.

For fresh fruit, veg and more (live chicken or rabbit, anyone?!), there is a large farmers market next to the bus station in town, almost straight in front of the bridge from the marina. Runs on Saturday morning.

We found the chandlery at the boat yard (Sopromar) to be very expensive, but the staff were helpful. We paid over the odds for some hose for our water maker, a couple of life jackets and didn't buy a pilot manual because it was about %u20AC90 in store and about %u20AC30 online. By all means, a store needs to mark items up to pay for overheads etc., but 3 times the online price seems extortionate. We ordered it online instead!

What the others all said, 2014-06-23
Captain: , Boston (300)

It is that good. We spent the winter here, the rates are decent. Shopping, markets, cafes and a supermarket all quite close, the old town of Lagos is very nice, even a movie theater. The marina is exceptionally well maintained and always kept clean and neat. Restaurants and cafes right at the dockhead.
Cost of living is low in this area, and English is spoken everywhere due to a large number of ex-pat British.
Highly recommended.

great facility ala bit expensive, 2013-10-23
Captain: , miami,fl (2241)

came in after the 800nm or so sail from the azores -- afternoon winds do pick up a bit from the north and we got in late so asked to stay on arrival pontoon for night and they agreed -- fuel dock is the same dock so fuel before going to slip -- great help, great atmospher, good food shopping and nice little town - get away a bit and less expensive -- very secure here and had no qualms about leaving the boat for 2 week inland travel - bus station is close and bus to lisbon quite often - we did not make hotel resveration anywhere but used local inform booths who either found us a place at 1/2 price or recommended one - we actually paid 1/2price most places as not a lot of tourist this year - food in portugal is plentiful and inexpensive -- but the marina is a bit expensive

Cruiser Haven, 2013-10-17
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (203)

Seems like a neat, tidy and well protected place. Everything is close by. Lot's a cruisers frequent this marina, especially pre-ARC around Sept-Oct. The beach grottos were fun to explore by dinghy. WiFi was worthless in the marina. Easy in and out, day or night.

First Marina on Algarve, 2013-05-15
Captain: , Orust (1863)

Very nice marina with easy access to town. WIFI was working. Showers
was cleaned every day. The entrance to the marina might be closed if there are hard winds from S. Do not try to enter if the entrance is closed.

End of an Atlantic crossing, 2012-09-14
Captain: , Fremantle, West Australia (1448)

We spent 2 1/2 months here getting new sails in and new electronics fitted (Bluewater Algarve, good work!). The best marina we have ever been in. Excellent staff, good rates. Old town not far away over the bridge. Supermarkets in all directions. Bus to Lisbon is 20Euros, bus to Seville is 21Euros. Showers a bit far from northern slips but the closer you are, the closer you are to the music. Take your pick. Great spot, great marina, good bars. Easy to suffer from "sticky lines" here.

Rally Portugal Finale, 2012-08-01
Captain: , Brighton, England (341)

We ended our Rally Portugal 2012 here in June. We loved our week here. Great connection to airport at Faro (1hr) by yellowfish taxis.
Marina de Lagos offer generous discounts to Rally participants and is well serviced with chandleries, repair and maintenance facilities close by. The first and second phases of the marina complex are now completed with excellent apartments and the Marina Club Aparthotel situated within the marina. The modern marina is well equipped, having pontoon slips, rather than the more common "med mooring" type. With a pedestrian bridge linking the marina to the town, the Meia Praia beach a few minutes walk away and the fresh fish market just opposite, Marina de Lagos is a superb facility for the cruising yachtsman.

Dockwalker's Dream, 2011-11-23
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

Tie up along the floating dock before the bridge to check in. Harbor is well protected. When we were there Oct 2011, there were presumably many boats staging for the ARC. Have never seen so many "serious" cruising boats: Malos, Najads, HR's, Sweden, Oysters, Pretorian and even a PSC44. Was fun to walk the docks and look at the boats and meet other sailors.

fantastic place to spend the winter, 2011-08-17
Captain: , Rowayton, CT (181)

This is the most convient marina on the south coast of Portugal. The town is just across the walk bridge and the supermarket is only two blocks away in the other direction. The people are extreemly friendly and you can go to a school in town to take Portuguese lessons for a modest fee. We absolutely loved our stay there. Also, next to the marina is a fantastic boat yard called Sopramar. They did a peal job and new vynlester resin on our bottom for only 6,000 euros. I had gotten a quote of $40,000 for the same job back in the states. They did excellent work.
As a foreigner you can buy a car and have it registered with no problems. We bought a car for $1,500 from the brother of the owner of the computer store just across the bridge. He not only sold me the car but also personally walked me through the registration process. his contact info is:
Americo Silva
Rua de Monchique 31
Largo Gil Eanes 8500-609 Portimao
282 424 767
917 591 834 cell
The car gave us total mobility for the winter to explore the rest of Portugal and southern Spain.

Marina de Lagos, 2010-02-22
Captain: , Lagos, Portugal (10)

Marina de Lagos is one of the best marinas all around the world where I have been.

Marina de Lagos a place you cannot miss, 2010-02-18
Captain: , Marina de Lagos (11)

Marina de Lagos is the best Marina I have ever visited. It is very well located in the heart of the beautiful Lagos Town, home of the Portuguese 15th Century discoveries. You have supermarkets, train and bus stations, the biggest beach in the Algarve and the city centre, all at walking distance. Staff is very friendly, the facilities are 5 star, and the harbour is very safe and well protected. It is the perfect home for you and your vessel.
The bay of Lagos is probably the best in Europe for any water sports. Even if you only have one day, don't miss it!
