Reviews for The Marina at Ortega Landing
Awesome Stay!, 2017-06-12
Captain: , Oregon (386)

We spent 8 days here in anticipation of some foul weather and some parts and projects. Getting in is a little tricky....high tide for deeper drafts is a strong recommendation. Call ahead and the marina will give you some directions that will help. Docks are floating concrete and in excellent shape. Free water, laundry, and Electric is included in the price. Small charge for pump out. There is a pool and hot tub as well as a great cruisers lounge, and a grill if you want to use theirs.

Location is close to Grocery Shopping, some good eateries, and fun. We would NOT recommend going into Jacksonville to the Landing....nothing there and we were told it was dangerous at night. As for areas close to the marina, there is plenty to do within a mile or two.
The marina and staff, as others have written, are top notch. They kept coming by asking if our slip was alright, was power ok....really great. Hats off to a great facility that earns those 5 stars. There are many live-aboards who are very friendly and helpful as well. There was even an impromptu call-out for a cruisers Bowling Night which allowed us to meet many of our neighbors and make some great friends. We will be back.

Great Staff and Facilities, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Houston (140)

Bruce, Giovann and Jeanne made our stay (8 months) great. They helped us out with any boat needs and greeted us with smiles everyday. The get-togethers were fun and just frequent enough. The facilities are exteremly well maintained. Showers the cleanest encountered! Other than the depth issues (we draw 6') and the Main Street Bridge construction it would have been a perfect stay. We will be back!

Top Shelf marina, first class operation, 2017-04-14
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3163)

12 6 2016 The location of this marina is 5 stars. Close to everything you need as a boater. West Marine, Publix, a medium sized shopping mall with plenty of eating establishments, Close to quaint Avondale / Riverdale and a nice bike ride to downtown Jacksonville. A short ride to JAX airport. Clean rest rooms , free laundry, grills, wifi, swimming pool, hot tub, floating docks with dock boxes, parking, and a beautiful boaters lounge with nice views inside and out. Well protected from the weather what a great marina!
4 10 2016 Stayed again close to other working marinas if you need parts or services also. This marina deserves more than five stars. The people staying at this marina are very friendly and outgoing. Nov 22 2016 Back again this is such a friendly place. 5+ rating. 3 17 2017 this place is too good to be true. Other marinas should visit here to study how to run a first class marina. 4 11 2017 Sadly ( Because this place is so good and people are great) just left after a months stay. Moving north on iCW but will happly return again in November.

Great Marina, 2017-03-29
Captain: , Sanford, Fl (218)

Spent a week here (3/13-20/17) and loved it. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The property is beautiful. Short walk to groceries and restaurants, Uber everywhere else. Clean and well serviced restrooms with showers, free washer and dryers. Lucky enough to be there for their monthly party. Enjoyed everything about our stay and will be back.

What more can be said, 2017-03-28
Captain: , Buffalo ny (230)

Than all of the previous posts, but this place is so good I had to post anyway. It's been a few posts since someone mentioned the free laundry, ice and loaner bikes, so I guess I can mention that. Probably our favorite so far.

We keep coming back, 2017-03-20
Captain: , Rhinebeck (20)

We stop here traveling both north and south to visit marina friends, reprovision, and relax. Yes, it's a hike up the St Johns, but for an extended stay, or a stop off for further travel up the river, this marina can't be beat. Yes, the internet can be fickle (hopefully to be rectified), but that's a small aggravation compared to the impeccable customer service, location, cleanliness, and sociability of Ortega Landing. We're on a catamaran and therefore way out on D dock, but it's so bloody fun there!! Everything said by other reviewers is spot on; these are great people running a first class show.

Best Marina Ever, 2017-03-10
Captain: , Mystic, CT (30)

We came for a month's stay while we took care of business back home - and ended up keeping the boat there for over a year while went back and forth between home and the marina. The facilities were incredible - I won't repeat what others have said. But more impressive was the staff. We were berthed next to Jovan and hardly a day went by without some type of advice or assistance. As a matter of fact, all the boaters were wonderfully friendly and helpful when needed. Overall a first class facility with outstanding staff. They will take good care of you whether it is a short or long stay.

Wish we could have stayed longer, 2017-03-08
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1283)

We just spent a week here and very much enjoyed our stay. Lots of liveaboards who are very friendly, very nice facilities, plenty of places to walk dog, free laundry, loaner bikes, beautiful boaters lounge and pool area, great neighborhood for walking, biking, dining and shopping. Only negative was the boat wakes rocking us on the T-head; probably should have taken a slip.

A new favorite, 2017-02-03
Captain: , Austin, Texas (200)

The Marina at Ortega LAnding would rate 5 stars just based on their faciities, but the helpful attitude of the staff, especially Bruce Fleming, put's it at the very top of our list. Exceptional facilities, exceptionally maintained and a great location complete the experience.

Great Marina, 2017-01-05
Captain: , Peterborough ON (172)

We just spent 4 nights, over Christmas, at Ortega Landing Marina. Great place. Most upscale boater's lounge we have ever seen. Pool and hot tub - and nice to sit out around the pool enjoying the sunshine. Boaters were friendly and welcoming, and Bruce the dock master was superb, even turning up on his Christmas holidays to take care of things and always reachable by phone. Bikes got us to Publix very easily and short rides by Uber got us out sightseeing. We like the originality of their offers, especially the first timer first night free, but also, for our future reference, the split week and split month options. Will definitely stay there again if we return to Jacksonville.

clearly the best marina, 2016-12-18
Captain: , Spruce Head (582)

This is our second stay at the Marina at Ortega Landing. Our first was for the entire month of November. Our intentions were to stay a couple of weeks where we could leave our trawler in a secure location while we flew to Texas, then return and join the Marina festivities for Thanksgiving. But we ended up here for 30 days. It is a professional and efficient organization staffed by Bruce, Jovan, Jeanne and Bill. The facilities are over the top beautiful, with pool, hot tub, clean rest rooms/showers and very large clubhouse. Gates, floating docks, lots of very friendly people, some who seem to live here. A reasonably short walk to Publix, Wells Fargo (ATM), West Marine and a small mall. The only reason we are leaving is to head south and get to the Bahamas.

Great place., 2016-12-13
Captain: , Charleston, SC (131)

A really nice place run by professionals.

Great Marina for hurricane season, 2016-11-22
Captain: , Hamilton (348)

We stayed at Ortega for hurricane season 2016 (and CareFree weathered hurricane Matthew there). The marina facilities are first class and the people are all fantastic. We did not get a chance to participate in the many social activities because we were travelling visiting family during the period, but there was certainly a lot to choose from.

There were almost no issues at all with hurricane Matthew. Docks and boats were all in good shape. Marina staff kept us all up to date on Facebook with posts and video.

Only issue was the depths dockside were pretty low when we arrived and shortly thereafter the marina commenced a dredging program to remove silt buildup. This went on for a lengthy period and during the process silt was constantly being kicked up, so the water was very muddy. Depths improved before we departed however.

If considering this marina and you have a mast >40', check on the progress of the construction on the Main St bridge in downtown Jacksonville, as this has resulted in a restricted schedule of openings during weekdays. Scheduled to go through until April '17.

The Best of All, 2016-11-15
Captain: , Belfast, ME (407)

We seldom stay in marinas. We have used Port Annapolis and Bert Jabins in Annapolis, Old Port Cove in North Palm Beach, and that's pretty much it. Those are all fine faciities but this one tops them all. And it's less expensive. Funny how often that's the case.

Awesome Marina!, 2016-10-12
Captain: , Newark DE (110)

We stayed here for nine weeks while undergoing cancer treatment at M D Anderson in Jacksonville. We can honestly say without a doubt it is the nicest Marina we have stayed in. They give a discounted rate for any cancer treatment patients, but even without that, it is an incredible facility. Hot tub, swimming pool, a beautiful clubhouse, and free laundry. The showers are large and clean and he water pressure is phenomenal. There is a shopping center within an easy walk that has a Publix, West Marine, Belk department store, Steinmart, and a number of restaurants. Last, but not least, the staff is the friendliest you will ever find. They actually enjoy what they are doing, and it shows. It is well worth the 21 mile trip off the ICW. We will definitely be back and hopefully under better circumstances.

One of the very best., 2016-06-08
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

One of the very best marinas we've ever stayed at. Great docks, slips, pump out at the slips, security, clubhouse, showers, laundry, pool, parking, provisioning, etc, etc, etc. All the way around, a great place to be. Stores within a very easy bike ride. It's not that far of a walk either.
If you have a car we recommend cruising around the Avondale / Riverside neighborhoods. Beautiful homes. Sushi Cafe in Five Points neighborhood is quite good.
Jacksonville grew on us. It's not as splashy as the other major metro areas of Florida, but is comfortable and stable. It has a relaxed non-hype kind of attitude about it.
Btw, if you have a hankering for great donuts and have a car, go to Donut King on Normandy Avenue.
Harbormaster Bruce is the best!!!

Very Nice Marina, 2016-06-04
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (202)

Decided to travel the extra 20 miles because we had freinds staying here and so glad we did. Very nice facility and the people are great. Burce, Jeanne, Joe and Bill all are first class. The cookout on Memorial day was very well done. We stayed on a tee head and it gets rough with the boat traffic. Wish they could get a no wake zone or something to help. It's very shallow so watch the tides. We'll be back.

Our Second Time Here..., 2016-05-06
Captain: , Guilford, CT (120)

We were returning from the Keys in February 2016, and needed a place to leave our boat for about two months. Ortega is about 18 miles west of the ICW, and is considered to be a wonderful hurricane hole. All the amenities have been described by other boaters, and it's all true, a really terrific marina! The office staff is very accomodating, the facilities are top notch, and the people who come (some stay) here are as friendly as you would wish for. We will be back!
Tom & Millie Hansen (Schatzi)

Very nice marina, 2016-05-01
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

We stayed here 4-18,19-16. Bruce was very helpful at the dock and provided information of the area. Very nice docks and facility, free laundry, very clean restrooms and showers.

Ortega Landing Marina, 2016-04-21
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (20)

The Marina at Ortega Landing has everything you'd want in a marina: swimming pool and comfortable lounging areas (with grills) right on the river, great water pressure, it's just a gorgeous place with all the amenities you'd expect from a private club. What other marina has free laundry and ice? The staff is awesome. They are so helpful, friendly, and knowledgable. The location is perfect: walking distance to restaurants, Publix, West Marine, and it's relatively free from gnats and mosquitos. We kept a sailboat there with a 6'3" draft, and now keep our trawler there. Great place for pets, and I believe it would be the most storm proof shelter I've seen with the overbuilt pilings and high, floating docks. I hope we can spend a lot more time there!

Great Marina, 2016-04-14
Captain: , Ft. Myers (170)

We wintered here and then extended our stay till mid April. Bruce, Bill, and Joe are diligent in running a first class facility. The facilities are well kept and can pass a military white glove test. Loved the themes parties. We will return here on our next trip thru Jacksonville.

Great Marina!! , 2016-03-22
Captain: , Daytona Beach (40)

Mark, Kay and Stoner- "CKII"- Beneteau 331

We stayed at Ortega Landing for a year, arriving March 15, 2015 and leaving on March 17, 2016. This is an extremely nice marina with a great and friendly staff. They really made us feel at home. The marina offers floating docks, free wi-fi, free laundry, and free ice. And we took advantage of all of that. They also have regular marina sponsored parties and pot lucks which is very nice for the slip holders. Beautiful clubhouse, pool and hot tub. Another bonus to this marina is that it is considered to be a hurricane hole by most insurance companies and we got a discount on our insurance. Shopping and restaurants within walking distance.
Great marina, great staff, great location and shopping. It doesn't get much better. Highly recommend. I would give 6 stars if offered.
Stoner says "Hi Jeanne".

hard to leave, 2016-03-03

A wonderful friendly Marina with ultra clean top notch amenities and superior crew. We stayed four months and will return.

Great Secure Marina, 2016-01-05
Captain: , Hull, MA (720)

Initially we picked this marina for its location since we were going to the leave the boat for 3 weeks and return home for the holidays. When we arrived what we found was a 1st class rated marina with a knowleageable and attentive staff. Bruce, Joe and Bill do a fantastic job managing the marina. The marina has all the amenities of a 1st class resort, heated pool and jacuzzi, gas grilles, courtesy bikes, llarge lounge area with kitchen and wide screen HDTV, laundry, clean modern restroons and showers, excellent floating docks, pump out at your slip, close to shops, restuarants, Publix etc. The facility is 1st class and was the best marina we stayed at since we left Boston and started our journey south. What makes this marina 1st class is not only the facility but Bruce, Joe and Bill and also the other boaters that are staying at the marina. We ended staying another 3 weeks and glad we did.

Super nice , 2016-01-05
Captain: , Kelso, Wa. (884)

Spent Christmas week there and could not have found a nicer place . The staff is first class! What a difference it makes when you are surrounded by people who love what they do. Could easily have lingered here as so many have allread done.

Great facility, 2015-12-25
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (1318)

We enjoyed our stay here, great secure place to leave our boat while we traveled home for a family holiday visit. For those who prefer a resort atmosphere, it can't be beat. That said, the view from the boat is just boats! Otherwise, the facility is spotless, great laundry, amenities are second to none. Shopping close by, friendly staff. Pumpout fee $15 even for slip holders.

One of the very best!, 2015-12-16
Captain: , St Pete (10)

This is far and away, one of the best marinas I have ever stayed at! The facilites and the staff are in a class of their own. Protected, quiet close to most anything you might need, and the cleanest you find. The staff are the nicest people with an abundence of local knowledge. On top of all of this, the price puts it all over the top. This is well worth going out of your way a little to recieve so much.

Superb and Friendly, 2015-11-16
Captain: , Lake Burton, GA (150)

Just launched my new boat (to me)today north of here. Was in the shop having a few things done. Staying 4 days before I head to Savannah. Called at the last minute to inquire about availability and they worked me in. Very friendly and professional. Can't beat the location and facility. Anyone cruising this area, this is the place to be. Protected and quiet. I will definitely be back for my next St. John's trip.

1st Rate & Outstanding Marina, 2015-10-27
Captain: , satsuma, fl (58)

Stopped for a couple of nights and stayed more. !st class floating docks with proper power pedestals that had water and every light work on all the pedestals. The bathrooms, showers, laundry and clubhouse could not be better. Top that off with available gass grills, warm pool and jacuzzi. All of this is complemented with an outstanding and helpful staff of Bruce and Joe. The Marina at Ortega is at the top of our list. We will be back - hplefully longer next time. Thanks Bruce & Joe - Clark & Gemma "Triple Play"

Best Marina yet, 2015-10-08
Captain: , Miami (40)

We stayed here for 3 months this summer and we have to say this is the best marina we have stayed at in all of Florida. The staff are friendly. They have great pot luck lunches and while we were there they put on a few lunch time parties where they catered food and drinks. The docks are secure with electronic access. The toilet and shower facilities are first class. The washers and dryers are free. The marina common room is impressive and good wifi access even out at the end of the dock where we were.

great place to stay!, 2015-10-07
Captain: , ponte vedra, florida (30)

I stayed here for awhile and found both the staff and facilities here first rate. There is also a great community of boaters here from all over the map. Pretty much everything you could need is within walking distance.

iShort term or long term, this marina is worth it!

A great marina to call home, 2015-10-02
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (311)

We have made the Marina at Ortega Landing our homeport, while not cruising, for the last three years. The marina facilities are outstanding. Floating docks, unbelievable clubhouse, pool, whirlpool, free laundry and ice. Bruce, the dockmaster is extremely friendly and helpful. Warren, Jeanne and Bill are all wonderful helpful management staff. The marina has a great boating community with monthly well orgainized and well attended events to meet fellow boaters. Since we arrived, the Marina has not only been well maintained, it has been in a constant state of improvement. The marina is within walking distance from grocery stores, department stores restaurants, West Marine and several great boatyards. The marina has loaner bikes and you can bike all the way to downtown Jacksonville. There is a market under the I95 bridge on Saturday mornings. Well sheltered, the Marina at Ortega Landing is a great stopover and a great homeport.

Outstanding marina and staff!, 2015-10-01
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (231)

This is a first rate marina with a terrific staff! We spent a couple of months at Ortega Landing and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The facility is immaculate and the staff exceptional. The marina is also very well sheltered and convenient for shopping. There is a nice sense of community as well. Thanks Bruce, Jeanne and the gang for a great time!

Outstanding Marina!!!, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Palm Coast (30)

We slipped "BigGasFun!" at OL for 1.5 years (while living locally) prior to moving to Palm Coast. The facilities were always in excellent condition and the staff is top notch. Bruce Fleming / Dock Master was always the 1st person I would contact for any maintenance recommendations and he always put me with the right people. I had the pleasure meeting many cruisers and most stayed longer than they initially planned. This the ONLY place we will stay when in Jax.

this marina could be an example for other marinas, 2015-08-01
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

Just like the reviews say, exellent!
They do have pot luck dinners and montly pool side partys.

Great marina with a wonderful staff, 2015-06-16
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (118)

We came here 10 days ago so we could have some service done on our boat by the folks at Lambs Yacht Center. We moved to Lambs for two days and then returned. This marina and its staff deserve all the accolades given by other reviews. The place is spotless, well maintained and the staff couldn't be nicer or more accomodating. So much is available within walking distance or by the available loaner bikes. The free laundry, swimming pool and spa are just icing on the cake. We are taking advantage of their "split month" program and will be looking forward to seeing them in the fall as we move south.

Six Stars!, 2015-05-26
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (752)

Seriously, every tine we come here we can't help thinking about just moving to Jacksonville and keeping our boat here full time. They have a bargain weekly rate and allow you to split it so you can stay a few days, head up the St Johns River and then finish your week on the way back.

The staff is friendly and professional, the docks and facilities are first rate and spotless, there's a nice pool, hot tub, captain's lounge, free laundry and card access to everything. It's a four block walk to a shoping center with a Publix, CVS, restaurants and West Marine. The marina even threw a party for Memorial Day with burgers, hot dogs and drinks including wine and beer.

We left this morning but we still have three paid up days to use on our way back to Charleston, SC.

One of the best marinas in Fliorida!, 2015-05-19

Great marina with extremely friendly people and staff. Great pool and hot tub. Everything is extremely clean & well run. Supermarket, West Marine, restaurants & car rental very close. Dog friendly. Good rates.

Hands down the BEST !, 2015-05-14
Captain: , myrtle beach, sc (40)

The quality of the facility is second only to the friendliness and expertise of the staff. Complimentary ice, grills, grilling tools, pool, spa, and a magnificnt captians lounge is readily available. Stores, including a Publix is within a few blocks. Originally I was slated for a one night stay. It was so pleasant I stayed for two !

Great Stop for Extended Stay, 2015-05-06
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (732)

Excellent facility, staff, and environs for an extended stop in the Jacksonville area. Lots of livaboards were welcoming and helpful, and nearby amenities abound. Modern, secure docks with good electric service.

One of the Best, 2015-04-26
Captain: , wilmington, nc (41)

Other reviewers have made the points I will echo: service, facilities and location are all top drawer. This safe, virtually current free, facility has a management team that understands the cruisers' needs. The Riverside/Avondale area of Jacksonville is very easy to love - with every possible interest able to be satisfied.

Very, very nice marina, 2015-04-25
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

Ortega Landing Marina is a nice place. Floating docks with slip side pump out ($15), great club house, very nice showers and bathrooms, nice pool, free washer/dryer, and free bikes. Short walk to Publix, Rack Room shoes and CATO that my wife liked, car wash, sushi spot, and numerous other stores plus restuarants.

We took a long walk, about 5 miles checking out the place through the beautiful neighborhood across the Ortega River bridge. Gorgeous. Also, in the Avondale neighborhood is Blue Fish Restuarant and Oyster Bar located at 3551 St Johns Avenue. A 1.6 mile walk or bike ride or very short bus ride. Great spot. Happy hour is 3 - 7 PM seven days/week and raw oysters are $6/dozen.

Only down side is the Ortega River in front of the marina has no speed limit. Yoiu will get waked...often. Stay off the T-head and the wakes will be less. But then you lose he nice view.

Wow ... It really IS 5-Star !, 2015-04-08
Captain: , The Villages, FL (368)

After doing our AC-homework last night looking for today's anchorage, we decided we really Had to check-out Ortega Landing Marina to see if it really IS that nice.

It is ! (Frankly we've never seen a marina this nice!)

After a tough nine miles up from NAS JAX, we put in to OLM, and were met by Bruce, the Dockmaster. Never mind that we're on a 23' Cape Cruiser; they treated us like royalty. Very friendly folks.

They have everything but fuel. Bruce referred us to "Lamb's" about .5 miles further up the Ortega River. (Fueling at Lamb's was fine for us, but in a larger vessel it might be rather 'tight.)

No food vendors or shopping onsite, but they give you a local map with easily reached businesses (including a West Marine).

Best on the Loop!, 2015-03-25
Captain: , Johns Island (230)

We have been on the Loop for 11 months and will be crossing our wake in 2 weeks. This is the best marina we have been to on the entire trip. Best service and nicest facility for the money by far! It was worth going about 20 miles out of the way to get there, especially since our stay was over a week. Ditto all compliments in previous posts!

BY far the best marina we have ever been in!!, 2015-03-16
Captain: , Florida (235)

We are a 23 ft pocket yacht and have cruised over 8000 nm(completed the loop in 2008) and this is by far the nicest marina we have been in. They charge by the foot and treat everyone the same :0 :) Everyone was so friendly there and the services?? What more could you ask for!! I highly recommend this marina and will probably be back again ourselves .

Well worth the trip up the river!, 2015-03-12

New Home Port, 2015-02-18

After a long search and much debate we have made Ortega Landing our home Port. The facilities are second to none and the staff has been great. The marine support in the area is great. We are looking forward to the experience.

Used to be Good, 2015-02-09
Captain: , East Haddam, CT (315)

While we liked it over a year ago when we initially docked there, it no longer is the friendly and accommodating place it once was. Rates have gone up and they no longer offer a special (cheaper) rate for boats listed with a broker (we were not notified of this change until we needed it). They also used to pro-rate a partial months stay, and now they require a 30 day notice (we were not notified of this change either). The price is a bit deceiving because on top of the dockage rate, there is another 6% land use fee and of course the FL sales tax of 7% (plus electricity). The wifi is still very weak on the outer docks, so much so that we had to go to the clubhouse if we needed a dependable signal. While the amenities are nice and kept clean, when the marina is full it's hard to get a washer dryer without planning. We just expect more for our dollar and consideration for being longer term customers.

Management response:
Dear Captain of Water Tribe,

We appreciate your recent dockage the past year here at The Marina at Ortega Landing. During your stay we did have our first rate increase since the opening of the marina eight years ago. We are, however, competitive on our rates but our costs continue to increase, be it real estate and tangible taxes, insurance, utilities and wages to mention a few. We also strive to keep this the cleanest marina you will ever encounter and provide amenities not normally found at a marina, such as our heated pool, spa, laundry facilities, showers, ice, clubhouse with tv and fireplace, bicycles and wifi. And all these amenities are complimentary and included when you are docked here at the marina.

We recently completed a major overhaul of our wifi system installing twelve new routers, with three routers spread across each of the four docks to provide full saturation. We also have wifi poolside and in the clubhouse. The boater feedback on this has been excellent. But wifi service and reception depends on a lot of variables we can’t always control, but if someone has reception issues, we always try to resolve it if we are aware of the situation.

As stated in our lease agreement, if you leave the marina prior to the expiration of your lease, there is no pro-rata refund of funds. This allows us to more accurately determine slip occupancy and the positioning of boats for everyone’s benefit and project future dockage for incoming boaters.

I do wish we had more than three complimentary washers/dryers but we have no space in which to expand to hold them. However, I am always looking at that issue and all others that will make our boaters’ stay more enjoyable and comfortable. From our bicycle racks to our dog park to upgraded wifi, we continue to improve our boaters’ stay here at The Marina at Ortega Landing. We do hope to see you back here again in the future.

That can find solutions to all your boat needs. What a treasure for the area. Just ask them! They've fixed Vacuflush problems, found me a place for cheap bikes, fixed a washing machine, had SS rail straightened, etc.; great people.

Captain: , Annapolis, md (10)

Best marina by far. We came for a month and stayed a year. We plan to make it our base for summer storage. Great staff - very helpful, and the marina is immaculately clean. First class amenities: beautiful clubhouse, pool, Jacuzzi, bath facilities and free laundry. Lovely setting, nice area for walking and biking, close to groceries, restaurants, lots of other stores. All types of marine services nearby and a great hurricane hole. Excellent monthly social events organized by the marina and a very friendly boating community. Definitely worth the trip off of the ICW.

Management response:
Thank you Sharon and Kevin!

We strive to make this the best marina you will ever find. I feel it is my duty to maintain this magnificent marina in the best condition possible, and strive to find small ways to continue improving it for all our boaters.
We do have great monthly parties with other events popping up in between...and being tucked away on the Ortega River gives our boaters a great hurricane hole while you can enjoy a view of the City of Jacksonville.
We appreciate your kind comments and staying with us here at The Marina at Ortega Landing.

Great Marina. Facility is 1st Class. Very helpful staff. Walk a few blocks to West Marine, Publix, banks, CVS, sailor's resale shop, Sadler Marine haulout. Most boats are large (>40') here and owners are >65 yrs. Would not recommend for young cruisers with kids. Rules say cannot do major work on your boat in Marina.

Best in Jacksonville, 2014-06-04
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (20)

We investiaged all the marina options in Jacksonville for a 38' sailboat drawing 5', and chose The Marina at Ortega Landing for the following reasons: staff, quality docks, proximity to services, pump out at your boat each week, competitive price, pool/laundry/clubhouse as icing on the cake.
Note that it is silting in and depths for deeper draft vessels will be a problem. But, it's the same problem at all the Ortega River Marinas.

We had some work done on the boat by Marine Solutions while gone and were satisfied. The marina is safe and protected from wakes and the price is right. All in all a great experience.

Probably the best all around marina that we've stayed. Clean, up to date, everything works. Located close to grocery, West Marine, restaurants, and in nice neighborhood. Staff is very accommodating and there to help. Reasonable rates and the "split week" option is great for exploring the St Johns.
Can't say enough for facility or staff.

First, the split month option is truly great: pay for a month, use half of it now, and the other half within 6 months. Second, the facility is top notch: Excellent pool and hot tub, good security, and shopping with 3 blocks. Management is top notch, without being stuffy. The GORGEOUS clubhouse TECHNICALLY closes at 5 PM, but you can use it any (and every) day well into the evening as long as you make sure to lock it up for the night. Pool and hot tub, free laundry and ice, you just can't beat this place. Dockmaster willl give you local knowledge to get in if your draft is deeper than charted deptsh, so don't let the charts scare you off if you draw over 6'.

Best Marina in JAX, 2014-03-10
Captain: , Winter Haven, FL (120)

Extremely clean, friendly with lots of amenities. Within walking distance of lots of shopping and great restaurants. Really nice parties monthly with great food and spirits. Bruce is a mountain of good information about the area and people to help with your boat projects. This is the nicest marina we have ever spent hurricane season and a few months there after. It is hard to leave because this place is great. Other marinas should take note of how well Ortega Landing treats their boaters. Truly a cut above the rest and a place you will want to return.

Captain: , baltimore md (644)

This was our first experience here and what a treat it has been. Our first contact was with Bruce via email and his response came only a few hours later, warmly inviting us to come on in. Scott helped us into our slip and filled us in on the ammenities. To list a few: heated swimming pool and hot tub ,free ice, 3 free washers and dryers, trash and a recycle center, loaner bikes with great saddlebags & big bbque grill. The infrastructure is all top notch and includes a plush boaters room, squeaky clean showers and restrooms, bellingham floating docks with up to date power, water and key card gates for each dock. Once a month they have pot luck, catered dinners and special theme parties. All of the staff, Warren, Bruce, Scott, Jeannie, Bill and Kate are people that have been there, done that and are very willing to pass on any info you maybe looking for. Just a great stop with all shopping close by and a active boating community. Reasonable too!

This marina is well maintained. The staff is friendly and accomodating. It has all the amenities that most boaters will want. And, it is located within walking distance of a boat yard, shopping and many marine oriented businesses.

The only thing that I didn't like was that you had to stern into the slip. But, once you get past that, its all good.

Captain: , San Antonio Texas (76)

We docked our boat here for the summer and were extermely pleased with the facility. It is the best facility we have been at. They have monthly parties for the residents, free laundry, at the slip pump outs, the nicest and cleanest bathrooms that we have seen in a marina, and a fantastic club house with a pool and hot tub. We would definitely go back here if we plan on being in Jacksonville again. Any derogatory comments that were on active captain previously about the staff here should be ignored or are being placed by this marinas competition. The staff here couldn't be more friendly or helpful.

This is one of the finest marinas on the ICW, truly a class act. The marina is new with concrete floating docks and pumpouts on the docks. The dockmaster is one of the nicest you%u2019ll ever find and is very helpful. They have free laundry, a brand new clubhouse that is beautifully decorated and immaculate, and a swimming pool. Once a month they have a dock party with very friendly people. There is a shopping center within easy walking distance with ok restaurants and a West Marine. We stayed there for about 10 days in the summer and left the boat there for 2 months. There is an Enterprise rental car nearby that is very handy inexpensive. This marina is also a natural hurricane hole. The only negative is that it is 25 miles off the ICW.

Captain: , houston, tx (403)

Left my boat here for three months (July-September) during journey. Floating docks and adequate depth (take extra care if your draft is greater than 5 feet as several slips are shallow. Ultra clean restrooms, nice poolw/ hot tub and club house. We missed every planned party but enjoyed docktails with folks on C pier. Many travelers here that stay for a few months. Bruce, Jeanne, Bill, Scott all ultra accomodating , knowledgeable, and friendly. They provide great local info also. Really liked the place.

They welcomed us with open arms and we enjoyed the pirate theme, live music, and wonderful company.

Captain: , Bristol, UK (11)

I can't recommend this marina highly enough. The facilities are superb and very well looked after.

The dockmaster, Bruce, and his team are fantastic and really go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

I spent several weeks there whilst waiting for my boat to be transported back to the UK. Due to changes in the shipping schedule I returned to the UK and left my boat in the marina. Without me having to ask, Bruce provided me with regular updates on my boat... I really appreciated this... this has not happened at any other marina I've ever visited.

The location of the marina overlooking the Ortega River is fantastic and it's a short walk to a great supermarket and coffee shop (Panera).

Really enjoyed my stay... thanks Bruce and the team!

Excellent place to stay in Jacksonville, 2013-07-24
Captain: , Houston, TX (553)

We parked our 5'7" draft sailboat here for a month while we returned home to take care of business. The facilities are spotless, the staff extremely capable and friendly. It is close to Publix, West Marine and a number of other shops and restaurants. We will be back. We came in just before low water and grounded upstream of the Ortega River bascule bridge (give the last green mark a wide berth) and were touching bottom in the slip even at mid-tide, but it is very soft.

Captain: , Portland, OR (30)

Active Captain's rating coupled with Ortega Landing's website influenced our choice of where to work and live. Marina at Ortega Landing does indeed live up to its rave reviews. From its prompt and unfailingly friendly and helpful staff, to the free laundry, marina sponsored celebrations, squeaky clean facilities, cruiser bike loaners; we really get one heck of a bang for our buck. I even landed my 2 p/t jobs in part due to being here. Oretega Landing sets the standard for what marina life should be like.

Caution for deep draft vessels, 2013-06-29
Captain: , St. Augustine, Florida (228)

We draw 6.5' and came in at high tide without touching. Another boat that was next to us on the T head also draws 6.5' and they came in at half tide and easilty plowed through the mud. Slips for 6'+ boats are limited. Make sure they understand your draft before you come down the river. We stayed on the T head.

That said, its a great facility. Bruce, Anthony, Georgia, and the rest of the crew afre great. Clean bristol shape marina. We've been here for 3 weeks doing the doctor thing but its time to move north of 31 degrees otherwise the stay would be longer.

Outstanding Marina, 2013-06-19
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (115)

I moved my sailboat here from Amelia Island, FL. because of the first class facilities, value, and location. The facilities are well maintained and provide a pool and club house. Bathrooms, showers, laundry, & office are all air conditioned. Each slip has metered electricity. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make your stay memorable. A shopping center with West Marine, grocery store, restaurants, & etc. is within walking distance. All marine services are availible within 1/2 mile. The marina is well protected from storms and only has about an 18 inch tide. Great place to ride out a hurricane! The St. John's River provides great sailing south of JAX or many miles of exploring up river for power boaters. A must stop when in Jacksonville, FL.

A Real Hidden Gem, 2013-06-11
Captain: , Grafton, Il (104)

The Marina at Ortega Landing takes a little longer to get to from the ICW than some in the Jacksonville area, but the trip past downtown Jacksonville is very interesting and worthwhile anyway, so why not end up at a 1st Class facility? We found the docks, facilities (immaculate), staff, and proximity to services to be exceptional in all respects. Bruce (DM), Georgette and Anthony are very proactive in fostering a "yacht club" community atmosphere without the burdensome fees and complications of actually running a club. Transients are encouraged to join in the well organized social activities on weekends. I would recommend that boats with a > 5' draft, time arrivals and departures at mid-tide or higher since the approach from the St. Johns River is a little shallow for deeper draft boats. Bruce is very attentive to first time arrivals so you should have no problems getting tied up. We would definitely return to this marina anytime we're in the area.

Worth a return trip - we did!, 2013-06-03
Captain: , Niantic (10)

We spent the winter of 2012 at the Marina and liked it so much we returned for 2013! From the great floating Bellingham docks to the country club style Club House and pool/spa, it's a quality facility all the way. The staff couldn't be more accomodating and helpful. Provisioning and great restaurants are within walking distance although there are good bicycles with saddlebags for use and venturing further afar.

While our boat, Plane to Sea, stayed in residence, we traveled back to CT every couple of weeks leaving her under the watchful eye of Dockmaster Bruce. We were confident with the Marina security and location that our boat was safe.

Everything but aa car!, 2013-01-28
Captain: , Topsail Beach, NC (480)

This marina is first class all the way, from the minute you pull in and Bruce skillfully helps you tie up. The only thing missing is cable TV, but there is a clubhouse with TV that you can use. Also doesn't have a courtesy car, but you really don't need one because anything you could possibly want is an easy walk: Belks, Steinmart, West Marine, Radio Shack, tons of restaurants and the biggest used bookstore you can imagine. Be sure not to miss the bookstore and plan to spend hours there because you will get lost in the maze. Like new books are half price. Nearby used boating goods store is also fun.

As for the marina, top of the line Bellingham Docks with slipside pumpout, great restroom/shower facilities, and a lounge that is fit for a country club.

AND they have recycle facilities for cans, glass, etc. I've decided to mention this in every review I do from now on. More marinas need to offer recycling! All Canadian marinas offer it....we need to learn from them!

6 Stars would be appropriate, 2013-01-15
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4247)

In comparison with many marinas that rate 4 or 5 stars from cruising boaters, Ortega Landing is truely a six-star marina. Outstanding facilities, friendly/knowledgeable/helpful staff, great folks on boats in the marina, easy access to many land-based services (including the largest/best used bookstore anywhere) make Ortega Landing a pleasant/fun/supportive stop. If you can stay during their first weekend event, you will have a chance for great camaradarie with other cruisers. They have a great one week rate which they allow the days to be split between two stays. Those making the scenic cruise up the St. Johns River can stop for a few days to provision and enjoy the area, then on the way back down river, can use the remaining days.

Can we add more stars, 2012-12-31

If there was a six star rating this place would get it. Excellent service, impeccable cleanliness and all the amenities one would want or need, clean showers, laundry, ice, propane grills, convenient shopping and a staff that will bend over backwards for you. Oh I forgot to mention the captain%u2019s lounge or should I say captain%u2019s palace. If you are traveling the St. Johns and need a place to stay don%u2019t pass this one up.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Marina at Ortega Landing. First in June of 2012, and then for 6 weeks in October and November of 2012. Both times we were impressed the facilities and the people who work there. The floating docks are new, the laundry is free, the bathrooms are pristine and there is a beautiful Captains Lounge. The employees are extremely helpful and go out of their way to make sure your stay is pleasant. Publix and West Marine are nearby, along with the best used book store we have ever encountered! I can%u2019t say enough positive things about the marina.

Captain: , Houston TX (70)

This marina is safe from hurricanes, great cement floating piers with security gates and the most elegant clubhouse, pool and spa you will find while cruising Florida! Friendly staff host great monthly parties. The shower rooms are roomy and clean. This is a must stay in marina! We did for 6 months.

Stayed two weeks to stock up for the Bahamas crossing, maintenance, etc. Great weekely rates (military discounts) super staff, excellent facilities. It does get a bit shallow on the approach in but no problem if one is careful.

Beutiful place to stay!, 2012-12-04

We stayed 1 night on our way to Green Cove Springs and this place is top notch! Very clean facilities, nice Captains lounge(nicest we have been in that didnt serve alchohol) and very pleasant people to work with. Short walk 4 blocks or so to Publix and in the same lot is a Starbuck and The ever present West Marine. We will stay again if we are ever in the area in the futire..

We keep coming back!, 2012-11-28

We stayed 2 weeks in the fall of 2011 and just completed a 3 week visit. The marina itself is very nice and clean with a wonderful pool, hottub and boater's lounge. We joined in for a "first weekend of the month" celebration in the lounge and was able to meet a lot of the other boaters as we enjoyed great BBQ, adult drinks and music. The staff is VERY nice and a pleasure to know as you are always greeted with a smile. There is a great grocery store (Publix) within walking distance, as well as a West Marine, Chick-fil-a and for those that spend a lot of time cruising - a place to get your hair cut! Overall, this is one of our most favorite places to stay.

Stayed here one night in Dec 2011 and was impressed. Returned in October and found the same friendly service and fellow boat owners. Clean facility and quality docks. If they could just keep the hot tub hot.

One of nicest marinas we've found, 2012-11-22
Captain: , charleston (771)

Arrived here planning to spend just one night. Facilities are so great we are now on our third day and plan to join the potluck Thanksgiving Dinner this afternoon.
Free laundry and ice, friendly and helpful staff, clean modern bathrooms, pool and hot tub (both enjoyed by 5 and 7 year old grandchildren even though it was 60 degrees outside, and largest lounge/clubhouse we have ever seen -- nicer than many homes. Would go out of my way to stay here again.

These people treat you well. The facillity is clean and well kept and the price is right. You are within walking distance to a mall and West marine. If boat services are needed Bruce will put you on Joesy who will arrange anything you need and she will see that it gets done. Well worth the trip. David Short, Beaufort, NC

We stayed the month of May 2012. In addition to all the services listed and previous reviews, we found the local public bus service easy to use. It's a 10 minute walk from the marina, ages 60 & older ride free, and in 20 minutes, you are downtown in the heart of the Jacksonville waterfront. Publix supermarket & West Marine are both a 10 minute walk from the marina. Super staff and facilities as noted in many other reviews. A good storm hole also. We had Beryl pass overhead without any issues. Al & Suzanne Knezevich aboard Mon Amie.

Very Nice Place, 2012-05-30

We stayed here the month of May 2012. A lot of protection, floating docks, super fine staff, pool, nice bathrooms, very friendly people, close to a lot of shopping and restaurants. Had work done by Marine Solutions, super job on prop repair and very good divers. Highly recommend it, will come back for sure.

a better place to stay, 2012-05-14
Captain: , Portsmouth, RI (260)

We have stayed here on and off for several months and have had a thoroughly happy and positive experience with all aspects. Bruce, the dock master has gone out of his way to help us with all our requests, even coming in early to see us off. The marina itself is located close to many important boater related facilities, including two marine supply stores and service yards. Also a great supermarket and many fine restaurants.

Negative reviews regarding "no work of any kind" simply not true, 2012-04-13
Captain: , St. Ignace, Michigan (236)

This marina is spectacular, and you often see marine maintenance trucks around. I have personally had work done. The facilities are so well maintained that I think boat owners take it upon themselves to contribute to keeping it that way. We find the staff extremely friendly, helpfull and think they contribute to the best marina atmosphere we have found in doing the loop and since...

Great jumping off point and ending point for exploring the St. John's River. Rates are flexible on weekly rates which can be broken up. Free laundry, beautiful clubhouse, great pool and wonderful staff. Floating docks. Publix and West Marine less than 1/2 mile away.

Lovely facilities but ..., 2012-03-07
Captain: , Balmer (150)

.. the management overlooks this place like you just signed up for a military tour. Nothing on the dock ever. Always bow out. No work of any kind. Someone I know left because they complained he dived his own boat. Keep her spotless or leave. If you're into that kind of atmosphere then this is your spot. Otherwise check out Ortega Yacht Club Marina where you are treated as a valued customer.

Great place to stay a while, 2012-01-24
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

This marina is relatively new and very well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. The floating concrete docks are wide and easy to maneuver. The Clubhouse area is one of the best we have experienced. There are first rate individual shower rooms and very nice rest rooms. Included is a large, comfortable "boater's lounge area on the second floor of the marina complex with a large television and a great view of the harbor and sunsets. There is a very large deck area with comfortable tables and chairs, a hot tub and swimming pool. Free washers and dryers are included with the docking. There is a Publix grocery store as well as other typical strip mall type stores within walking distance. A great many stores are avaialble by bike or a short cab ride. We left our boat here for two months and the price could not be beat. A great benefit to leaving a boat here for a while is the fresh water, no barnacles! We will make the somewhat lengthy trip in to Jacksonville and the Marina at Ortega Landing again because it is well worth it.

Updated 1/17/12....Still very happy. This is a clean place, first class. I have never experienced anything but respectful treatment here, and I certainly don't own a megayacht. The river does have aggressive algae, so be prepared for monthly scrubs, but otherwise perfect. Try outer slips where water moves a little more. By the way, I love train whistles....

I have kept my 34' trawler here for a year now. This is one of the safest hurricane holes in NE Florida. The facility is clean, well-kept, and secure. Very nice pool area. Recent upgrade to WIFI signal and new landscaping shows me that the new owners care about this place. Nearby several boatyards nearby. Walking distance to Publix, restaurants, West Marine, Pier 17 Supply.

Love it here!, 2012-01-04
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (121)

Can't imagine what caused the negative review - we've had a great stay, and find the staff very friendly and helpful. Can't beat the location for access to all kinds of services. (BDC Canvas gets 5 stars from us - they just did new interior cushions and side curtains for us, and Sadler Point Marina stored our dinghy for a very reasonable rate. Publix, Panera, you name it and it's walking distance. The Enterprise on 103rd has the weekend special - 9.99 per day for 3 days. Great stuff!

It just doesn't get any better than this..., 2012-01-04
Captain: , MV Red Head (61778)

We've been here for 6 weeks so we've gotten to experience just about everthing there is here. The facilities are exceptional. Beautiful floating concrete docks, first class power, water, gangways, security, offices, laundry, showers, clubhouse, pool, and hot tub. It's all perfectly maintained and all of the highest quality. A full grocery with a variety of stores, restaurants, and a West Marine are all easy walking distance. We use the Publix as our pantry and walk there every couple of days to get fresh things (Publix website shows the current specials too which is very nice).

I think I understand why there are occasional 3-4 star reviews for this obvious 5-star place. Here's the issue. There are rules here. And unlike many other places, the rules are followed to guarantee a good experience for everyone (unless you want to break a rule). So when someone isn't allowed to put batteries in a dock cart, they get angry and lash out. But as the next person using the dock cart, thank you Chris for having that rule and making sure it is followed.

I think it is unfair to say that this marina only caters to large, fancy boats. The most basic observation shows that there are 30' weekend boats and 80' yachts. The prices are so great this season that they are obviously not only looking for megayachts here. The value is incredible - probably the best I've experienced in 9 years. There is no question that I'd come back here whenever possible in the future. The Ortega River is a fantastic place to jump off to explore the St. Johns River - we'll be doing that in upcoming weeks.

And there are railroad whistles that you can hear although after a couple of days they fade into the background. I really like them and think they add to the whole experience here.

a nice facility, but....., 2011-12-26
Captain: , Black Earth, wi (63)

this marina wants your money and your vacant, but pristine boat. should you live aboard, you will be treated like trailer trash. the facility is beautiful, the rates reasonable (includes free train whistles every 20 minutes,) the management anal.

Ship Shape, 2011-12-24
Captain: , Newport RI. (145)

Squared away pllace. As a retired Military Officer ,and there are lots here, I appreciate what it takes to keep this place as nice as it is. The dockmaster is direct and believes in the rules. You can't find a better marina in this area. The prices are at a point never seen, shopping right here, everything you would need. Great emenities at the marina. Women appreciatee the imaculate bathrooms. Major maint. facilities next door. It would be perfect if the Ortega river was swimming friendly. It is silty.

Great place to spend a few days, 2011-11-30

Great bathrooms, pool and docks. Staff very helpful. Elegant communtiy room, but it's only open during office hours. Nicest marina we stayed in during 5-week trip.

Captain: , Kemah, Texas (10)

Since we planned on being in the Jacksonville area, we took advantage of ActiveCaptain's info of free dockage for September. The entire staff has been very helpful and friendly. Their Labor Day poolside parties were fun & delicious. Great way to meet boaters. Location is close to shopping & restaurants. Did I mention FREE laundry, FREE ice, beautifully decorated baths and common room. Excellent floating docks, security and beautiful pool & spa. We're staying another month before heading to Bahamas!!

A first class marina, 2011-08-09
Captain: , Jacksonville, Fl (71)

We were looking for a place to get the boat ready to cruise (essentially no maiintenace, just outiftting etc). The staff is very friendly and helpful, the docks are excellent, the pool area is also excellent and well kept. Drawbacks? The Ortega River is shallow. The Cable TV is by far the worse I've seen at a Marina with only a few basic channels available. I give it 5 stars but the cable should cut it to 4 if you watch TV at all.

Great facility - not the most friendly to transients., 2011-07-16
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (363)

Great docks, pool, location, pumpout, dog grounds, etc. But the dockmaster has a nickname in the area I can'rt repeat here (the rest of the staff is great!). The current focus is only on selling condo's. Any activity that may detract from the "yacht club" atmosphere is discouraged.

Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

We have been here for 2 1/2 months and left today. We would definitely stay again without reservation.
The staff were excellent and took care of us as if it was there own business.
Prices were very reasonable and with a new owner buying the facility away from the bank it will only get better.
Thank you Kris and Amy

Everything you could want is here, except any boatyard facilities. Brand new, clean, well-lit with excellent security and friendly staff. Probably several years ahead of its time in offering expensive slips for sale as well as to-be-built condos, but look for this to be a premier facility for years to come. Meanwhile, you may be able to negotiate an unpublished rate for dockage.
