Reviews for Marina Shores at Dune Harbor
Nice quiet clean harbor., 2016-09-01

Great stop just before Chicago. In fact a very easy train ride right across the street. Very friendly and attentive staff, Dave even let us use his truck to go get a replacement battery. Did I mention a nice pool and FREE laundry. Perfect place to get refreshed and everything cleaned up before starting down the rivers. Would be a good place to leave a boat for a while if needed. Watch the bridges on approach channel, a north wind off the lake can cut the clearance numbers a bit.
Look forward to coming back here again.

Great Stop Before Chicago, 2016-08-25

We stayed here 4 nights before heading to Chicago. The marina has great amenities with free laundry, workout facility, and a nice pool. There are two restaurants on site, one casual next to the pool and the other a little more upscale located upstairs.

Right across the street from the marina is the commuter train station where one can catch a train to downtown Chicago for $8.25 each way. The trip takes between an hour and an hour and a half depending on whether you travel at rush hour or not.

The slip and fuel prices were most competitive with volumn discounts on the fuel. To top it off the dockmaster is very service oriented.

This is not a place do do your provisioning unless you rent a car but worked well for us to take a few days to relax, plan the next leg of our Great Loop adventure and pick up some mail.

New and nice at an incredible price, 2016-08-24

If you choose to come here, beware of the bridge clearances. In Aug 2016, we had 18.5 feet and just made it.

It is a bit of a hike from the A dock to the pool, showers, but otherwise this was a very nice stop on the way to Chicago for a very inexpensive rate. Marina manager, Scott, was a delight to deal with.

We had a family emergency and needed to find a safe harbor off of the waves and surge of Lake Michigan to leave the boat. The weekly rate, accomodations, friendliness and helpfullness of staff, restaurant, etc were all superb. Also helped us source an air conditioning technician to repair a unit that failed while we were away. Good depth, but first bridge coming in was around 19 feet (my estimation based on our 17.5 foot air draft) and with no markings was a bit scary. Only drawback is groceries are 5 miles away. Overall, excellent. Scott the manager is a top shelf individual. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Excellent Experience, 2015-09-05

We left our boat here for a week to fly home from Midway Airport in Chicago. Easy access using the South Shore Train to downtown Chicago and the "L" to Midway. Very convenient access to the City. The facility is excellent, with a pool and restaurant, very well protected, good fuel prices and an accommodating staff. They also will loan their truck for trips to the grocery store.

Great value and very secure, 2015-08-29

We left the boat here a month and felt completely good about it. Well off the lake and nice secure condo community. Attentive folks. If your boat can do the Great Loop, it can get in and out here. 1-mile channel carries 8-ft depth and bridges are nominally 20' clearance--can be less with northerly wind stacking up the lake, or recent heavy rain filling the little river. Would be 5-star if grocery or town were nearby.

Great facility, but no shopping, 2015-06-23
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

We had an extended stay at Marina Shores. Scott and the rest of the marina staff very helpful, delivered Fex Ex pkg direct to our boat. This is a great facility except of lack of local grocery and other shopping. Clean, roomy restrooms/showers. Pool, restaurant, bar, security gates. Docks and dock fingers are wide, large cleats, like-new condition. Slips and fairways large making docking and turning around easy. Free pump outs. Frequent trains on the South Shore Line will get you to Chicago in an hour, nearby Miller station has a Walgreens and a few other shops. Plenty of room to walk your dog(s), waste bags available.

Outstanding Marina, 2015-01-08
Captain: , Portage, IN (196)

The staff is professional and friendly and the marina and grounds are attractive and well-maintained. The new property owners are working hard to get the restaurant up and open which would take my 4-star rating up to 5-star. edit to add: The restaurant is OPEN!

Beautiful Marina- Great Staff, 2014-08-20
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

Stayed here several weeks while taking a break from The Great Loop. The marina is 1 mile off Lake Michigan. There are several bridges that are supposed to be 20 ft. We lowered the mast of our trawler and had no trouble clearing them. Plenty of depth for our 4 ft draft. Marina is $1/ft with beautiful swimming pool, exercise room, and free laundry. Only drawback is it isn't close to shopping. Would definitely come back.

Nice Facilities!, 2013-01-19

Very nice marina with a friendly staff! The pool area is great but one of the best features is the South Shore train station is right across the street. This train travels to Chicago(1/2hr) to the west and South Bend to the east!

Very Nice Marina, 2012-09-20

Clean and Friendly Marina, 2012-04-10
Captain: , indiana (331)

Marina Shores is a nice quiet friendly cove with a beautiful yachtclub with a pool, bathrooms, work out room, and laundry. I stayed there for 3 days and took in all of it. I also got a ride from a dock neighbor to the Bass Pro Shop just down the road. I will definitely stop over again.....
