A fascinating island.

October 2017 - rented a car for 3 days - 88 euro. There are a large number of hikes but the most spectacular are the lavados and the up and don hike along the two highest peaks.

Reviews for Marina Quinta do Lorde Madeira
Anchor alarm rang !, 2017-06-23
Captain: , La Trinite sur Mer (311)

We came here in 2011 and stayed a couple days before leaving for Madeira. The marina was great, brand new and well maintained. Unfortunaltely in 2012, a lot of pontons, fingers and gangways has been destroyed and then removed after a 30m/70tons old wooden turkish boat try to manoeuver in the marina when a storm was approaching, the boat has been caught by the heavy winds and made a lot of damages in the marina. A few things has been repaired by the excellent staff, but they still have to consolidate the structures.

We came back in June 2017 and it's the first time my anchor alarm rang in a marina, we had winds about 20 knots and the central pontoon was drifting so much the staff had to tie up the pontoon with ropes from deadweight to avoid the situation getting worse.

Apart of that, the staff is very kind (pontoon guys and the office girls), super helpful and smiling (priceless).

This is not the cheapest marina, but don't rely on the info on their website, you'll have a better price.

Buses come every half-hours and stop around 6pm, so better rent a car (15%u20AC if more than 7 days) because we are away to everything ... and this is deadly calm here ...

Best Marina in Madeira, 2016-10-05
Captain: , London (709)

Just spent two months here, leaving our boat for one month whilst we returned home. The staff are wonderful, helpful and very professional, the ladies in the office go out of their way to help with where to shop for what and how to get there.
The dockmasters are exceptionaly good at getting you to your dock and tied up. We arrived with wind of 30 knots plus and the dockmaster (Carlo) came out to us with his RIB took me into the marina to choose a berth and get a feel for the conditions before we entered.
There is some surge in the marina so good mooring ropes are needed.
The longer term rates are very reasonable, it is a little remote but car rental is cheap and allows you to go to the Lavadas amongst other things not to be missed.

Great in middle of nowhere, 2014-10-09
Captain: , St Marys City (105)

Very nice place, but miles from anything. Can take bus to shopping about 10 min away, and to Funchal for 3.35 Euro, very exciting 90 minute drive! Only one washer/dryer. Restrooms clean and well kept. Marina bar has very good food. They didn't answer our calls as we approached, but met us in inflatable and guided us in......very professional staff.

good over all, 2013-09-11

shelter is not really good and its expensive there, but you will find a berth instead of Funchal.

Great marina, remote location, 2013-05-20
Captain: , Westport, Ireland (511)

This is a great marina, very sheltered, very new and people are very nice and accomodating. A fabulous alternative to overcrowded Funchal but far from Funchal. Need to rent a car. They also offer shuttle bus services to local supermarkets etc. Very hilly region so bike riding is difficult. We tried!

Visited by car in 2007, 2013-01-25

While berthed in Calheta I rented a car and toured the island stopping at all of the marinas on Madeira. At the time this was the most remote marina on the island at the very eastern end. The closest town is Canical, but certainly not withing a reasonable hiking distance for supplies. There was a small restaurant near the entrance to the marina. More development have come to this end of the island, but when I was there the only option was a rental car. On the positive side this mariina reportedly has the least amount of surge of all the marinas on Madeira. Probably the best place to leave a boat on Madeira for a trip home.

top destination & service, 2012-10-16
