Reviews for Marina Port d'Escale
closed for summer 2016 due to strike, 2016-07-25
Captain: , Burlington, VT (80)

it appears that the strike will not be resolved for this summers boating season, the marina is closed.

They know how to do it right !, 2015-08-18
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

It just misses 5 stars in my book. The location is tops, the docks are the best, great washrooms, laundry and the staff is terrific. Be aware that this can be a busy place, and sometimes noisy.

Marina was great - 6/2015 construction noise a problem, 2015-06-23
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

6-3 to 6-8-15 - 25% discount for 7 day or more stay. The location is the best. Easy access walking everywhere downtown and to the Metro station. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Floating docks are the best we have ever seen. Bathrooms and commercial size laundry are located in pod type structures right down on the docks. Very convenient. Staff was first class at every encounter. We were there during Grand Prix weekend and the docks were full but staff kept everyone happy. Only bad part of the whole week was our next to the last day there. They started tearing down a wharf building immediately south of the marina with jack hammers at 7 a.m. It went on all day. Needless to say we left early the following day. It may be worth a call to the marina to ask if the demolition is over before you pull in. Noise was deafening. We felt so sorry for the dock staff.

Jacques-Cartier Marina Port D'Escale, 2015-06-21

When location matters there are none much better than this one; and with a busy active staff you can want for nothing. Bathrooms, showers, laundry; always clean. Trash emptied frequently, WiFi is very good, excellent condition. In the middle of the down-town activities. A multitude of great food is always nearby. Four day stay, our second time. Much better than Saint Anne de Bellevue and the other end of Montreal. Recommended.

This is a "must stay", 2015-06-20

Great facilities. Right downtown. WiFi was OK with a booster. Worked out to be about $US2 a foot, but well worth it. Friendly and efficient staff.

Great for fun and excitement, 2014-08-16
Captain: , Rochester, NY (200)

Things we liked a lot:
+ Staff was amazing. Special shout out to Dominik and Sam for being especially helpful.
+ Access to Old Montreal was awesome! Restaurants, shops, historic sites, street performers, fireworks and more. Action packed.
+ Facilities were super clean and nice.
+ There was a nice gym nearby.
Things to improve:
- Wifi was weak and intermittent.
- Loud music from nearby venues plays loud and late. The bass from the music reverberates in the basin.
- Grocery store was a hike.

Great location/Great Marina, 2014-07-09
Captain: , Vandalia, Ohio (168)

This is the best location to visit Old Montreal. The staff was extremely helpful even giving us local info on the Jazz Festival. Very clean and secure facility. Hop on/Hop off bus comes across from the Science Center. Don't remember seeing a grocery but in the underground shops, etc. you can find any food you want. Would have stayed for a long visit if we could have.

Could'nt be closer to the heart of Montreal, 2013-10-19
Captain: , Montreal (251)

Stopped here for almost a week. Clean, well equipped marina, that's as close to downtown Montreal as you can get. Good chandlery a couple of blocks away (McGill Maritime) and staff were on-hand and happy to help out when needed. Not so easy to get to a supermarket, but it's an issue for most marinas around the Montreal area. Plenty of taxis on hand though.
Book early during the height of the tourist/festival season as it's a popular spot.

public transport tip, 2013-07-25
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3048)

To get around Montreal, get a one or three day pass at the tourist office at top of Jacque Cartier, then take the 715 bus that runs along Rue Commune. It links up with the Metro at various places. You ride all day on bus or metro for $18/3 days.

Nice Marina, 2013-07-19
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2153)

The experience of coming up river to get here against a 6 knot current was something else! The marina is a nice, clean, secure place to be to see this city. Great docks with good power & water. But, don't expect the 'dockhands' to know what they're doing - just kids with a summer job..

You are in the midst of all 'old' Montreal has to offer - shops and restaurants and street vendors and tours. There is no local grocery or even a convenience store nearby.

Great for short-term, 2012-09-02
Captain: , Naples, FL (1096)

Here is the scoop. If you want to spend a few days in the heart of Montreal and are prepared to eat out or eat from your previously stocked pantry, this is the place. Well managed facilities, clean heads, great washers/dryers, helpful staff.

Dockage is reduced by 25% if you stay 8-29 days but you have to ask.

Here are the downsides:
There are no grocery stores within easy walking distance. Nada.

The metro is a 15 minute walk up and down ramps and stairs. Many of the metro stops do not have escalators or elevators. Pets are not allowed on public transportation unless they are enclosed in a carrier. Weekly passes or senior reductions require the purchase of an Opus card.

The marina heads are clean and clean, however one needs to get past the issue that they are all unisex.

The five star rating is for the marina. They cannot help it that the public transportation system is antiquated or that there are no food stores nearby.

While we anticipate returning to Montreal, we are unsure whether we will return to this marina just because of transportation accessibility and lack of grocery stores. The Yacht Club location is not any better. Maybe Lachine?

The best place to visit old Montreal, 2012-08-16
Captain: , Montreal (383)

This is a very nice marina, freshly renovated, very clean and conveniently located to see the best of what Montreal has to offer. You can also get a dock for a block of 3 hours for less than $20 if you only want to do a short stop.
To people who complain about the prices of food and other things: this is the heart of the tourist district, of course things are expensive. Walk a few blocks north and you will find more reasonnable prices.

Great Marina, good location, 2012-06-23
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4176)

Very impressive marina. I love their dock section. Previous review said it was >$3/ft is incorrect. It is $2/ft plus 15% tax total. My 41 ft boat was $94.30 per day TOTAL.
Very good power, lots of water pressure, clean heads and showers. Great staff.
We found Montreal to be a very clean and friendly city, although expensive. See the light show at Notre Dame Bascillica for $10/person. Not many grocery stores close - a few small grocery stores. Milk was $3.89 for only 2Liters !! Lots of restuarants close by but bring your big fat wallet....Ka Ching $$$. At the top of Jacques Cartier Place on the left, last restaurant has early bird specials was the best deal we found for dinner...$10-12 before 6pm.

Great stop, 2012-06-13
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1796)

Marina is as good as it gets, docks are wide and stable, power is great 50 amp and 100 amp. Close to everything downtown like Jacques Cartier Square and all kinds of restaurants on Ste. Paul. Magniicent city and great city, must see and stop. Was there 6-12-12. Dock was $3.43 foot including electric and all.

Dogs are OK, 2011-08-17
Captain: , Galena, MD (1826)

We were going to make reservations at a different marina based on info re: dogs. We met a Canadian couple in one of the locks and they advised they have been here with their dog and it woudl be fine. Sure glad we did!!
Tied to the face dock at the west side of the marina and there is room here for big boats. The showers and heads are immaculate and nearby this location. Walking the dog was not extremly difficult as the RR tracks and grassy area are just outside the walkway entrance to the marina., although it is faily long walk from the boat to the entrance.
Great location and would stop here again.

Port d'Escale Marina, 2011-08-10
Captain: , Patrick AFB Florida (1254)

Fantastic place. Right in old Montreal. The walking streets are right off the end of the quay with good restaurants and an active crowd in the evenings. The marina crew is forbidden to accept tips; they're very helpful when arriving.

The current going upstream runs about 6 mph, but by staying to the green side from the tip of the island to the bridge you can avoid some of the worst; then after passing the current from the rapids the current becomes almost nothing and it's a piece of cake to enter the broad area between the two quays into the marina. The docks are floating, and relatively new.

Very unfriendly for dogs, 2011-07-11
Captain: , Stuart FL (805)

July 2011
Very long walk from dock to gate and if you have a dog, no grass. One can go out the gage and take dogs off the property to a gravel area but by morning our dogs can hardly wait to get that far!

It is near downtown and $2.ft w/electricity. Pump out reasonable (for Canada).

Would prefer a longer finger pier for a 42 foot boat especially since there are no pilings to which one can tie the bow.

Not a good place to stay if you have dogs but other marinas near downtown are also on the same quays and it is the "quay" rule about dogs. So one has to put up with it or stay in marina before Montreal and put up with a fairly long commute.

Superb and professional, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Savannah, GA (20)

WOW. What an anazing staff. They helped with every aspect of getting in and tied down. Even helped a boater with his AC cord. The facilities are first rate although you are in the middle of a cosmoplolitan city. The approach requires high power up current because the river is doing 4 knots. Be prepared to gut it out. But iinside the quay, the current settles down.

Loved It., 2010-10-16
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

This is the place to stay to see Montreal if you do not want to take the train in from St. Anne De Bellvue (spelling?). Expensive, but very nice facilities and docks. Helpful staff.

They won't let me give it over 5 stars, 2010-07-05
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (935)

The docks have all been rebuilt with restrooms, showers, sturdy docks and 24x7 security and help. We arrived at 12:30am to find the dockhands ready to help us dock and still enough time to jump up for a bite to eat after a very long day on the Seaway. Right in Old Montreal, you couldn't ask for a better, or more interesting location to be in. Well, if not overly, lit you won't have people just walking by because it is a secured facility but there are people that look down from the walkways above.... so what!! they are so far away they can't see anything anyway. I'll stop here anytime i'm in the area.

Great folks in a first-class operation, 2009-07-17
Captain: , Key West, FL (748)

Don't expect privacy, or peace and quiet. But, if you are looking for a marina in the thick of things with great folks who will go out of their way to assist you, this is the place. Audrey sets the bar high for service orientation; and the dirctor, Marco Lenzi, really went out of his way to order a part for his pump out system to accommodate our needs. The French Canadians are wonderful fun people with every reason to be proud of this city and their rich heritage. Rent a Segway from the next pier over and see the city.

Port d'Escale, 2009-07-05
Captain: , Grove, OK (337)

This marina is situated well in the Old Port of Montreal. Lots of folks peering over the wall onto the marina. Lots of partying but we were there on St. John the Baptiste Day. Staff helpful but not too knowledgable. Parked boats in the way of the pumpout after telling us before we docked that they had pump out. Pumpout did not have the correct fitting, dock hand did not know how it worked. Took one hour to pumpout before we left. $20 deposit for pass key to get back into marina. Not dog friendly.....dogs prohibited on any grass nearby. Still, we would stay there again because of the location.

Nice Marina in the midst of old Montreal, 2008-07-28
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

If you want to be right in the middle of Old Montreal, this is the place. Everything is well within walking distance. There are tons of restaurants and cafes as well as all of Old Montreal. The marina is nice and all of the staff speaks OK English and you'll also find that most merchants do the same.
