Reviews for Marina Pez Vela
Do not use the boat yard!, 2015-05-26
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (20)

it's such a shame because the boat yard has a great look to it, and even has some state of the art equipment, but that is where the praise stops. They can not get anything done right or on time. The yard manager will "yes" you to death and tell you that he can can get it done, but the reality is that he doesn't have a clue. They think that they are ready to handle large vessels (we being 100 ft.) but with all the mishaps we had and saw while we were there I can't steer you clear enough.

We had to make our own cooling tower out of a tank and running water for our a/c chillers because the yard could not provide. Even though they said they would/could and had over 2 weeks to prepare, they still failed. We had to leave a hose running for 7 strait days wasting fresh water because of this, when had I have known I would have just bought a pump ahead of time to use ocean water (DUH) to cool the chillers. After the week was over they had the balls to try and charge me for all the fresh water they waisted.

The yard will nickel and dime you for everything so watch the fine print.

We also saw them blow a tire on their travel lift while lifting a boat that was too big (110ft). They got lucky that no one was seriously hurt or killed.

I would NEVER recommend this yard to any large vessels. They are simply not ready and charge more than a South Florida boat yard.

Nice marina, 2014-03-07
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

We pulled into Pez Vella so that we could tour Manuel Antonio park and we spent 2 nights here. The biggest issue was that they now seem to be insisting that sailboats back into their slips so that anchors don't hit the dock boxes. This is despite having specifically requested a bow-in starboard side slip. They eventually let us go in bow-first, but wouldn't let other boats do the same.

The facilties are nice, but not first class. Considering that the marina is just 4 years old and the rates that they charge, I was suprised that it wasn't better constructed.

Speaking of construction, there's lots of construction going on here with the associated noise and dust.

Both restaurants at the marina are good and the bar has happy hour from 5-7.

Town is just a short walk away. Lots of little stores to check out.

Manuel Antonio is either a $10 taxi ride or you can take the bus for $285 colones. Having done a lot of inland travel via car and lots of nature hikes, I was unimpressed by MA. Lots of people and vehicles driving on the road through the park and very little wildlife. If you're looking to see CR wildlife, go to Monteverde.

The marina charges $4/kilo for laundry, but if you find JC on m/v Top Knotch, he'll arrange to get your laundry into town for $2.40/kilo. He speaks good English and is looking for work on days that the sports fish that he maintains isn't going out. We can recommend him.

Finest Marina in Costa Rica, 2013-10-25
Captain: , Swansboro (664)

Convenient to downtown Quepos and Manuel Antonio.

Walking distance to MANY great restaurants....including the world famous El Gran Escape.

Also home to many charter fishing companies.

For those interested in some sailfish/marlin fishing....I hightly recommend Good Day Team Costa Rica (their office just behind El Gran Escape).

Expensive but good, 2013-03-30

Great security and a nice facility. The town is good and the national park is excellent.
Paying three dollars a Ft is the downside
