Stayed twice , Great cruisiing area, Marina is first class and you pay first class rates all the way. Clear in with an agent is 500 bucks, this services is great but you must call in advance or be quarantined for up to 48 hours. Also nantional zarpe only monday through friday so if you plan to depart work with them in advance. Word is to clear in at Coco is easy and worth saving the 500 bucks, Facilities are first rate with some surge, Restaraunt is decent. Store has a good selection but very very pricy, Concierige service is great for setting up cars and tours. Fuell was in line with the market prices. This a 5 star facitlity and very well managed. Just bring your wallet.

Best marina service ever!, 2015-01-30

Was going to stay for a few days but stayed for two months. It is a bit out of town however a rental car will get you to coco beac has will a dingy. The marina is on a pinnusula with the Four Seasons and Adaz resorts which you can vaisit have lunch and use the pool etc. The beauty of the area is spctacular with many monkets and wild birds. This is by far the best run marina we have ever stayed at. We used a agent to check us in and it only took 15 minutes on the boat, no hassel what so ever.

Really Enjoyed Our Stay Here, 2014-09-04
Captain: , San Diego (277)

We spent two months at Marina Papagayo. We like everything about it except for the distance required to reach the city. Of course, the trade-off there is that is was very quiet, which I like a lot.

This is a superior facility in every aspect. Kudos to the teams working here.

Unless you are willing to use one of their recommended agents to clear into Costa Rica you cannot stay in this marina. Coming from Nicaragua we arrived here on a Friday afternoon and were turned away since we wanted to do our own clearing in.
Dan, the Manager, is a very nice gentleman and will offer you many tips on where to anchor and how to clear in.

Wonderful marina in the middle of nowhere, 2014-02-21
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

We spent 2 weeks here in 2014, which included 1 week of inland travel. It is by far the nicest marina that we've been in on the Pacific side of Central America. Wonderful docks, friendly staff, a reasonable chandlery, better than average restaurant, very clean bathrooms and a great laundry. The only issue is that the water is very hard and spots your boat. The fuel dock is super easy to get to with at least 3 fueling statiions. Pump-out is available at each slip.

You can clear in for free in Cocos and then come here. There's no reason to pay the agent fees here.

The laundy has 3 washers and driers and is the nicest laundry facility that Sue has used on the Pacific side. Washers and driers are $2/load.

You also have privileges at several of the hotels. The Hyatt picked us up and we spent the day using their pools and eating at their restaurant (which wasn't cheap, but nice).

This is a very safe and secure location to leave the boat to travel inland or back home.

The biggest issue is that you are in the middle of nowhere. It's ~30KM to the airport and further to Cocos. Taxis are quite expensive. Some people paid $60 for a taxi from the airport to the marina. The marina does have a shuttle van for $90 which can carry quite a few people, so if you're swaping crew, this could be cost effective.

We rented a 4x4 from Hertz and they charged us $50 to pick us up, but dropped us off for free.

At this point in time the marina has a buy 2 days, get 3 days special and a buy 5, get 7 days. We doubled down on the 5 for 7. We paid $2/ft, but that includes power and water. The staff is incredibly freindly and helpful.

Note that the winds start blowing like clockwork between 10:00 and 10:30 and can howl down the bay at 20-35+ kts. Get here before then if you want to avoid them. Once in the marina the winds are much less, but not 0.

Great facility of no use, 2013-03-30
Captain: , London (709)

Spoke to marina on the telephone twice before arriving from Nicaragua, they failed to tell us that they are way out in the middle of nowhere and do not have any facility to check you in to Costa Rica or the Port which is Playa La Coco.
The first immpression on arrival is that it is a big almost empty marina so there had to be a reason. After helping us to moor up to a slip with lots of surge, we asked the question about checking in and were told we would have to use an agent and go by taxi to Playa La Coco. The agent would cost $400! We untied and left immediately going to Playa La Coco where we checked in with no charges, although we did have to go to the airport for customs. The airport is half an hour by bus then a 15 min walk, you need to go to the arrivals desk and ask for the customs officer. If we had done this frist then gone to the marina it may have been better.

Great Marina, 2013-02-27

Everyone very nice and will get you anything you need. Everything is very expensive all over Costa Rica. You are very isolated here.

Great Stay, 2012-11-29
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale, Fl (21)

We arrived in the marina at 7:40 AM last week, after 96 hours underway from Huatulco, Mexico with winds up to 43 Knts in the Gulf ofTehuantepec. we found this marina, its facilities and staff extremely accomodating. The facility is first class, and the staff went out of their way to help with mecanical issues, cleaning and watching the boat, as well as coordinating our ground adventures. We recommend it highly.

Great place for inland travel, 2012-09-27
Captain: , Long Beach (983)

First class marina with all the services. Staff could not have been more helful. Because it so far from town there is not a lot to do. This does make for a very safe place to leave the boat and travel.
Watch out for surge on the inner slips. Can be windy at times. Can pay to wait for a quieter time to dock.

Funny - it was at the head of Bahia Culebra when we were there early 2012. Great facility, modern but very expensive and mostly empty. At $2 a foot for overnight and really nothing much there to do, I'd stick to Playa Del Coco.

why I give it 1 star, 2011-06-26
Captain: , Seattle (180)

Pro's: Great facility anything that you could want or need. very secure also.
Con's: now owned by IGY, who cares nothing about yate's only the dollar. Costa Rica is overly expensive to clear in and out and really offers nothing.
