They have imrproved the marina since my last visit. Floatingdocks, good strong wifi, shuttle to town, but still pricey.

Great Place, 2017-05-19
Captain: , Ruskin, FL (330)

Stopped in from a run from Punta Gorda as it was the only place that could take us. Wish I had stopped on previous trips. Great staff, wonderful facilities and a very pleasant atmosphere. Will make it a point to plan my trips with a stop here.

Management response:
Thank you for the kind response Captain Bridges! We look forward to seeing you again.

Lots to do in Sarasota, 2017-04-07
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (408)

We arrived here from Isla Mujeres, Mexico on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 just after 7PM. We'd made reservations for a mooring ball by phone once we had service. The office/fuel dock is open from 6AM to 7PM. There is ample dinghy dockage available and they have a pumpout boat the will come to you in the mooring field for free. They actually have wifi in the mooring field, but it is pretty slow. Mooring balls are $25 a day. The downtown area has many restaurants as well as a Whole Foods grocery store. Saturday mornings they close off Lemon St for a Farmers Market from 7AM til 2PM, lots of fresh produce, crafts, baked good and bbq sandwiches. Public transportation is very reasonable, $1.25 or 60 cents for seniors (65) or you can buy a day pass for $4. Ringling Circus museum is just 3.5 miles north of downtown, Mote Aquarium just over the ICW bridge. and if you are here in March, Sarasota is the home to the Baltimore Orioles baseball team for spring training. Tons of stuff to fill a whole week or more

Best Marina, best location, priced accordingly, 2017-02-19
Captain: , St. Pete, FL (14)

Professionally staffed, top knotch in every regard. Great restaurants on-site and within walking distance in Downtown Sarasota. There are very few places we've ever slipped at $2.75/foot or more, but only one place we agree is worth the price. Love this place.

Great Place to stay, 2017-02-12
Captain: , Winthrop Harbor (130)

The marina seemed pricy untl we got further south but it was clean and modern, the people were helpful and the resturants were good. But the best deal was the mooring field which had good wifi which is a rarety anywhere we have stayed. Depths in the marina and the mooring field were 8+. As an aside be very wary of the local passes. Vience inlet is the best bet for any vessel drawing more than 4 ft.

This Marina is THE BEST !, 2017-01-04
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (30)

Just before Thanksgiving, We were visiting Sarasota with our boat club and we stayed here. During our stay, the hydraulic swim platform became stuck under water.

Joe the yacht services manager became personally involved with our predicament and with the assistance of Andrew, their mechanic, they tried every conceivable way to fix the problem and have us on our way. Unfortunately, the issue required assistance from a hydraulic specialist and needed a new pump. The boat was there for two weeks before we could return to Fort Myers.

Joe, Andrew, Annie, Sam and many others at Marina Jack tried to make our experience as pleasant as possible and they all demonstrated sensitivity and compassion in what was a horrible problem with our boat.

These folks and their marina are simply the best. The location is spectacular, the facilities are immaculate and the staff is an example of the professionalism and concern for the customer the marina industry should strive to match.

Right downtown , 2016-11-21
Captain: , Portsmouth (553)

We stayed on the moorings two nights. Easy dingy ride to the Marina. Staff very nice, Marina clean with three restaurants on site. Town is an easy walk with plenty of shopping. We took the bus to the Ringling museum and mansion. I highly recommend this trip. We asked about anchoring next to the Marina and were told that the police would make you move and the Marina would not allow dingy tie up if anchored.

Management response:
Thank you for the kind feedback Capt. Gravelle! Our objective is that every customer that walks through our doors is able to have a similar experience.

This is the luxary place to stay with first class treatment. You are next to downtown Sarasota. You are within walking distance of the best restaurants in Florida and the live theater district is very close. You can find less expensive places but this is the place to stay if you want to enjoy Sarasota.

Outstanding Marina facility, service, management, & entertainment, 2016-09-25
Captain: , sarasota (10)

I had the pleasure of a six month Marina Jack stay this year in my 32' Express Cruiser, and I must report that Marina Jack's provides the cruiser or resident with the kind of professionalism and excellence that makes life on the water a joy.

First the Marina Operations is competent & reliable...they do what they say they will when they say they'll do it.

Second, their yacht services are fair priced, well managed, and on time.

Third, security is excellent. Accomodations are clean and safe.
Amenities from multiple resturants and bars to a beautiful park with Tiki Bar as your land access makes Marina Jack a first class Marina all the way.

Marina Jack Management sets a very high bar for the quality of service, safety, and comfort of their residents.

They won't be the least expensive...but they definately deliver the highest quality, classiest facility, and best overall value to their customers.

R. Scott Richardson

Management response:
Thank you for the wonderful review Mr. Richardson! We really appreciate your comments regarding our management and operations. Our staff takes their roles in our industry very seriously and try to provide quality customer service that our guests expect every day. We hope you stay with us again in the future!

Waypoint Stay, 2016-08-07
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (105)

This was a stopover on the way to Tampa. There is a reason for Marina Jack as the number 1 rating for large marinas. Efficient is the word I would use. Easy to reserve a slip, dock attendant waiting at your slip to assist in docking and providing a packet of info on Marina Jack and Sarasota activites. Great amenities, restaurants, transportation, full services. Darrell was especially helpful during my stay.

Management response:
Thanks for the kind feedback Capt. Joe! We're glad we could accommodate you and your vessel on your trip to Tampa, and look forward to hosting you again upon your return South.

Great place in the heart of Sarasota, 2016-07-12

Outstanding!, 2016-05-30
Captain: , Daytona Beach, FL (40)

Arrived Friday before Memorial Day. First time at the marina. Annie cheerfully directed us to our dock, took lines and secured us to the dock. We checked in with her at the dockmaster's office. She gave us an expert orientation to the marina and the area. I wanted to have the boat washed, so she directed us to their yacht services. That afternoon they sent a wash and detail team and they did an outstanding job of cleaning a weeks worth of salt off the boat, cleaned canvas, and thoroughly dried the boat. Best cleaning the boat has ever had.
Friday afternoon about 4 o'clock we found we had to have a document notarized and FedEx overnight. Annie and the staff came through again. They located a notary public and FedEx shipping and then drove us to that office before closing. We were able to get the document notarized and sent off. We could not have done it without their help.
The entire staff at Marina jacks was outstanding. The marina is clean and first-class everywhere. It is an easy walk to downtown Sarasota. It is surrounded by a beautiful city park where we walked the dog each day.We will be leaving the Tuesday after memorial day weekend. We will definitely be back. A stop on the Florida west coast you do not want to miss. Thank you Marina Jack's!

Another Great Stay, 2016-03-29
Captain: , Great Bridge, VA (381)

Even though we only stayed one night, we were treated like their most important customer. We have stayed many times and always felt at home. This time our dingy was not functioning properly, and we couldn't fix it ourselves. I called ahead and explained the problem and asked for help the next afternoon after we arrived... A Friday afternoon. It's not reasonable to expect such Specialized service most places on such short notice... especially on a Friday afternoon. Nevertheless, we were greeted by professional staff at the dock, which is routine for us at this marina, and they said the repair person would stop by soon. An hour later, repairs made to our satisfaction, I went to pay the bill. Since the repair job took 30-40 minutes, I expected to pay for an hours labor, and perhaps a service call. MJ personnel said they would negotiate since it was an off-site vendor that performed the repairs, and they felt like they could get a reasonable deal. An hour later or so I paid up with a 1/2 hour labor invoice, a nice surprise. You can't ask for better, in my opinion. All our needs were promptly attended to, and frankly, we hated to leave. We have stayed at MJ many times, including during special events, and have always been pleased. In my mind... Top Notch. Price? Commensurate with location, service, cleanliness (spotless restrooms)... you get what you pay for.
Sea Biscuit, Defever 44.

Management response:
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us Captain Doug. We're very pleased to hear that our Service Department and marina personnel exceeded your expectations; we take price in catering to our guests' needs the best way we can. We look forward to hosting you and your vessel again!

Nice to be downtown, 2016-03-28
Captain: , Sitka (142)

Friendly staff. Nice dinghy dock. Shore acess is good at the park for walking the dog. Not sure how they assign the moorings. We had one in close. Our friends on a 35' saillboat were put way out. They asked to be moved in and were told it was a busy weekend. The moorings never filled up.

Management response:
Thanks for staying with us Captain Lena! We hope to see you again!

Great Place to stay, 2016-03-14
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

Great place to stay. Nice floating docks. Staff very nice and helpful. Walking distance to downtown Sarasota with lots of restaurants and a Whole Foods. We were there Friday to Saturday, March 10th and 11th and there was also a farmers market and art show. Great place to stay for a while. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Management response:
Thank you for staying with us Captain Sandy! We hope to see you again.

Great location Downtown, 2016-03-02
Captain: , Delaware (90)

Friendly crew. They should give discount to Boat US or Active Captain. Internet is strong and do it yourself pump out is a plus direct at your slip. The channel of big Sarasota is navigable for boat with 5 and less draft and high tide is preferable if you don't want to have anxiety.

Management response:
Hi Captain Pierre, thank you for the feedback. Big Pass is problematic for boaters gaining access to our facility, as it does change quite frequently. For future reference, Big Pass is monitored by Sarasota Yacht Club, you can find their latest GPS/WAAS coordinates for navigating Big Pass on their website at

Captain: , Wilson Cove Marina - Rowayton, CT (10)

This is our second season as a 4 month long transient at Marina Jacks. We used to be members of the Sarasota Yacht Club but craved the larger marina facilties that Marina Jacks offers. Floating docks, pumpout facilities every few slips on each dock, laudery, clean restrooms and showers, multiple restauransta and friendly staff. Joe at their Yacht Services office can arrange any maintenence or repair you need. Can't say enough about this place!

Management response:
We appreciate the positive feedback Mr. Henson! We take pride in catering to our tenants’ needs and yachts the best we can. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Always a great stop., 2016-01-14
Captain: , Falmouth, MA (30)

We have been coming here for years, and it keeps getting better and better. Sam, the dockmaster, runs a tight ship wittth a supirb staff. Always friendly and helpful with a clean facility with resturant and bars. We will continue coming here.

Management response:
Thank you for the review Doug! We look forward to seeing you again.

Very nice but spendy, 2016-01-09
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

Stayed one night, staff very friendly. A/C Fuel price does does not reflect taxes.

Management response:
Thank you for staying with us Capt. Vicars! Only our diesel is taxable, however both prices have been adjusted on our ActiveCaptain listing. We hope you visit us again.

Exceptional marina with an outlandish price, 2015-11-16
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

If you don't mind spending the big bucks -- this is the place for you. The docks are perfect, the setting exceptional with a short pleasant walk into the charming town of Sarasota and all the services top shelf (even the pump out was the strongest and fastest we've ever used!). That said -- the transient price of $2.65/ft is over the top. We had planned on staying on one of their moorings -- which would have been a great deal at $25 but mother nature said no with howling winds and turbulent seas that would have made for a not nice night. In the end -- with their amazing wifi speed and nice showers I'm happy to be here -- but glad we're only staying 1 night! And given they have no discounts for Loopers -- I'm not surprised we're the only Looper in the marina (a first for us since New York).

One of our favorites, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1264)

Marina Jack is always a "must-do" when we're on this side of Florida. The docks are great, the dockhands are very helpful, the marina is convenient to most everything. A wonderful place to walk dogs, lots of interesting bars and restaurants, great farmers market on Saturdays. Love coming here.

Management response:
Thanks for the great review! We'll see you next time!

Poor Service and overpriced, 2015-08-13
Captain: , New Port Richey (123)

Very clean
Easy access to fuel dock
Nice restaurant
Hit and miss dockside help
Inadequate store
High prices

Management response:
Thank you so much for your genuine feedback. Our guest experience is first and foremost in everything we do at Marina Jack. We have a minimum of 4-5 staff on duty for docking and marina service at all times, a well-appointed store, and access to same day parts from all major marine suppliers. All staff are equipped with handheld VHF radios and are ready and willing to assist all customers and their vessels. We are genuinely sorry your experience did not meet your expectations, safe cruising and hope to see you again soon!

First rate all the way, 2015-06-18
Captain: , Cocoa Beach (287)

Stayed on a mooring ball for a few days on our way to St Pete. One of the best marinas we have stayed in so far. Loved the area. WIFI was the strongest we have ever experienced even out in the mooring field. Appearently Jeff helped them set it up. Wish all the marinas followed suit.

Management response:
Thanks for your review Captain King! We agree, our OnSpot WiFi has great coverage in the mooring field. We hope you stay with us again.

Great place, 2015-04-14

Stayed here a few nights on transient dock. Truly topnotch facility, clean bathrooms, beautiful docks. Very friendly dockhands, instructions on approach made for a seamless arrival. Will definitely be back.

Total fail & denial cst us extra 300, 2015-03-19
Captain: , Siesta Key, Florida (81)

I thought Sam was good guy, but now not!!! We borrowed a car from friend, got parking permit. Sam the dockmaster did not notify anyone of parking lot closure. The failure to notify us tenants got nearly a doz cars towed away, even though we had permits for extended parking. Sam said he wasn't informed, but then said it's an annual event. Which is it Sam? Even after it was towed, Sam didn't notify any of us our cars were towed, so the bill grew. Then Sam tried to blame it on the city, then on the event coordinators, then on the security. By law, tennants must be notified by personal delivery, but Sam refused to even consider our offer to trade the cost of a mooring for the cost of his negligence. Total fail. We will not be giving Marina Jacks any more of our business. We were spending around a thousand at the restaraunt per month and this was just unacceptable to the extreme. Don't count on Sam to be helpful while he smiles.

I read the comment, so now by blaming the parking lot you are finally getting around to blaming me. That the paking lot you now claim is not part of the MJ parking complex extends not only to O'leary's, who's receipts say Marina Jacks on them, to the mooring field, which goes waaaay behond the parking lot. If any of these parking lots are not part of your perview then you have also failed your tenants by not providing this vital information. Nevertheless, you normally do inform your tenants of its closure, as you said. If you had shown us a map stating there the four adjacent parking lots were in some way different, or if there were signs showing any difference in command or rules, or or or. Sam you have blamed eveyone individually and separetly as the responcible party. Hopefully next year you will inform your tenants as you had done the previous year. This resulted in your failing to notify the tenants. You said you usually do but this time you didn't. You even blamed your superiors for not informing you at one point. This was your responsibiility. All you had to do was let us know one of the lots was being repurposed. Like you usually do! Even after that there was an easy remedy but you didn't want to allow for that either. Not good. Bad bad bad. Ashamed too, we love it here. Grew up here.

Management response:
We are very sorry that Capt. Carolyn Sue ran into a problem while parking on City of Sarasota Property adjacent to Marina Jack. While we try the best we can to help boaters navigate parking in the local area, we are not in control of city-owned parking and have no control over towing. In addition, when a vehicle is legally towed by a local towing company for violation of posted parking in accordance with local ordinances and posted permits, we cannot refund a boater for charges that are incurred outside our control.

Marina Jacks is located in a vibrant and busy city which has much to offer visiting boaters. However, as in any bustling location, parking can sometimes be a challenge and very limited. For visiting boaters we recommend our marina shuttle service which operates 2 FREE shuttle vans daily to the surrounding area. Any boater who has questions or concerns about the Sarasota regulations or our shuttle service is encouraged to contact the marina office for assistance.

deemed it nessary to recognize marina and staff for its 1st class service after a recent visit to the bayfont mooring field. staff was very knowledgeable and well versed on local waters. marina showers/heads were clean and accessable 24/7. would recommend mooring field or marina to passing boaters. location very near downtown and amenities. fuel pices were comparible to adjacent marinas. traveling companions stayed in marina and were also impressed with facility. would give 10 star rating if available

Management response:
Thanks for staying with us Capt. Wilbur! We're glad to have helped accommodate you and your friends. We hope you'll be back again.

expensive but good, 2015-03-18
Captain: , Louisville, KY (347)

Some docks are secure, restrooms/showers and laundry are secure also. High price, but close to downtown with lots of entertainment as others said. Part of the restaurant is dog-friendly, a very welcome attraction. The dog even got a bowl of ice water.

Management response:
Thanks for staying with us Capt. Bob. We believe our location is truly unbeatable, with all kinds of entertainment just minutes away. Canine companions are always a welcome sight at the Marina - we have dog treats stashed in almost every office, even the fuel dock. We hope you stay with us again in the future.

Top Notch, 2015-03-08
Captain: , Palmetto, FL (504)

Stayed here Dec 19 for a night. Was a bit choppy on the mooring to dinghy in, so they happily took our info on the phone. Went in the next day. Beautiful facilities and great restaurant. First and formost is their unbeatable customer service. A must stop on your way up or down the coast!

Management response:
Thanks for the great review Juggernaut! Come back soon.

Home away from home, 2015-03-07
Captain: , Marina Jack, Sarasota (50)

The facilities are top notch

State of the art floating docks, the best pump out system I have seen and the staff is great (Annie was so helpful getting us settled in )

Everything is within walking distance and they have a shuttle if needed

Management response:
Thanks for the review Capt. Tuck! Annie is a great asset to our team. In line with being a designated "Clean Marina," we aim to have an excellent pump-out system. We hope to see you again.

Excellent Marina, 2015-03-04
Captain: , Norwalk (293)

We stayed 3 nights at this very nice facility. Staff were helpful and professional. The floating docks were first class and the restaurant overlooking the marina provided good food and service as well. Incase you are not a party animal ask not to be alloacted R docks which are just infront of the restaurant where a live band plays loadly. It somewhat spoils the serenity of the place. We will be back in April and look forward to our stay.

Management response:
Thanks for staying with us Capt. Raf. Typically our “R” docks are designated for daytime restaurant visitors, but also serves as dockage for larger vessels with beams greater than 18”, as well as overflow for our transient docks. Don't hesitate to inquire about a quieter slip during your next stay and we'll try our best to honor your request. See you in April!

Convenient mooring, 2015-03-03
Captain: , Chicago, IL (1056)

We stayed 3 nights in the Mooring field, wakes from boat traffic is a factor f you are close to the channel for Marina Jacks. If you are close to the marina noise from the restaurants can be an issue, but it simmers down somewhat after 9-10PM. Mobile pump-out available at no charge to mooring field boats, just call the marina office. All the fun of downtown Sarasota is within walking distance from Marina Jacks, there's also a Whole Foods downtown. There are canals lined with beautiful homes you can explore by dinghy/paddle. You can also dinghy across Sarasota Bay and explore Siesta Key. Mooring field is exposed to all but East winds so plan accordingly. We'll be back.

Management response:
Thanks for your input Capt. DHigg. We understand boat traffic can disturb many boats within the mooring field, fortunately we recently extended the no-wake zone approaching the marina so the wake should be minimal. We'll see you again soon.

Happening sport, 2015-01-31
Captain: , Honolulu (712)

Location, location, location...if you want to be at the center of the action in Sarasota, this is the spot! Great restaurant on the water, live music (whether you want to listen or not), just a short walk from the thriving Main Street scene in downtown Sarasota. Immaculate, upscale marina, friendly and helpful staff. Transient rate $2.65 a foot on 1/30/15.

Management response:
Thanks for staying with us Capt. Beadle!

The best marina in the area., 2015-01-30
Captain: , Gregory, MI (60)

This is one of the best marinas I have ever stayed at. The docmaster and his staff are great. they have a shuttle to take you around town, a great resturant and all facilities. I would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for such a great review Capt. Capehart. We hope to see you again.

Mostly Nice but Pricey, 2015-01-17
Captain: , Stuart FL (758)

At a place like this--big, up-scale, downtown marina--you don't expect to open the door to the shower building and find the hallway flooded. A staff member reported, "Yeah, that's the first one on the right. The floor was layed wrong. It drains toward the door." It's still open for use, however, flooding the entrance. Come to find out, of the other three available--other 6 are being renovated--glass doors don't fit properly so all floors get wet! Too bad. It's a nice tile shower, glass doors a classy touch but it appears somebody in management wasn't paying attention to the installation. And essentially, with a "sold out" marina, everybody this weekend was supposed to use just 4 soggy showers / restrooms. BTW, no discount to offset the inconvenience. Otherwise, staff could not be more pleasant and helpful. Handy to downtown. Beautiful view of sunset over the Bay.

Management response:
Greetings Steady 1,

Thank you for reviewing your stay with us at Marina Jack. We read your most current review and wanted to follow up with you. First, we deeply apologize for any inconveniences our facilities caused during your stay. We are currently undergoing a quick renovation to solve the current issue you mentioned regarding the shower drainage. We understand one of the few things that can separate a good marina from a great marina are the restrooms, which is the exact reason why we’re renovating them. Construction will suffice soon, and we promise during your next stay that all bathroom stalls will be clean, dry, and worthy of our customers.

Captain: , Seattle (131)

Excellent service from free to everyone pump out to docking assistance to courtesy van to nearby attractions. Floating docks a plus. Food and drink right here or endless alternatives nearby. When we approached our assigned slip, the dock help noticed it was covered with bird poop and moved us before we even docked. They had power washed that morning, but you know how birds are. We appreciated the attention to detail without having to ask.

Management response:
Captain East, thanks for staying at Marina Jack! We’re constantly pressure-cleaning the docks, but unfortunately it feels like the bird poop always prevails. Thanks for being so flexible about switching slips, we’ll see you next time.

Mooring Field, 2015-01-06
Captain: , Hamilton, Ontario Canada (22)

Nice facilities with a fair size mooring field. Easy access to dingy dock and a short walk into historic Sarasota. Not a lot of protection from wind or waves but the price was right.

Management response:
Hey Captain Jim and Mimi, thanks for anchoring out in our mooring field. With Big Pass being adjacent to the marina, any strong northeasterly winds will make the bay & mooring field pretty rocky. If it’s too rough next time, don’t forget we have floating transient slips available – protected from those strong winds thanks to the Bayfront Park peninsula. We'll see you next time!

Nice Spot, 2014-12-05
Captain: , st petersburg, fl (889)

Nice docks and top notch facility. Downtown just a short walk away. The restaraunt had a really good band while we were here.

Management response:
Captain Alpine, thanks for the review. Great bands like the one you heard play every day at the Portside Patio. Just a heads up - the Portside Patio is currently being completely renovated and will reopen in early Feb with a completely all-new bar area and entertainment corner! Next time you’re here, come on down to hear the same great bands perform in an all-new modern outdoor bar atmosphere.

Outstanding Service, 2014-11-30
Captain: , Johns Creek Georgia (150)

We have been transients at Marina Jack many times but last week was the first time I needed mechanical help. My generator stopped working and needed a new impeller. They had it fixed for a reasonable price in three hours. They drove us to Mote Aquarium in their courtesy car while it was being fixed. I'll be back!

Management response:
Hey there Capt. Craven! Thanks for using Marina Jack Yacht Services for your mechanical work. We understand mechanical issues arise sometimes for our transients, so we try to get the problem solved without having to extend your stay with us. Glad we were able to help. I believe our loaner car that time was a blue VW bug – we promise next time you’re in town we’ll have more comfortable (albeit less cute) transportation available. We'll see you soon!

City Ordinance Restricts Anchorage with 150' of Mooring Field., 2014-11-19
Captain: , Elberta (87)

We took a mooring ball here for 4 days. We would have preferred to anchor out in Marina Jacks Bay, however, after anchoring there briefly and noting no other vessels in what appeared to be a prime anchorage, we Googled "Sarasota Anchorage Ordinance" and found that anchoring is prohibited within 150' of a mooring field and/or real property. Realizing that, we took a Mooring Ball at Marina Jacks.
This is an excellent location for sightseeing, shopping, dining in downtown Sarasota. It is a short walk to the main bus transit terminal. Bus route goes directly in front of West Marine. A different bus will take you within 1/4 to 1/2 mile of Marine Surplus. Staff in the marina office were very helpful.

Management response:
Hey Captain, thanks for your review of the mooring field. The anchoring ordinance you mentioned is correct and in full effect. There is still additional work to be done in the field - we recently installed about 15 additional mooring balls. Out of the 4 phases of mooring field permitting & installation, we’re currently in Phase 2, so expect the field to expand within the coming years. Again, thanks for your review and we look forward to seeing you again.

Expensive but worth it, not secure be careful, 2014-09-27
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Great stop right in center of downtown Sarasota. Terrific help in docking. Fairly well protected from all winds. New floating docks. $2.60/ft no discounts. Several restaurants on site, many more 10 min walk away in downtown area. Great bands and dancing on weekend at the marina restaurants. Good dingy dock for mooring field. Highly recommend if want lots of activity. Longboat Key mooring is the place for peace and relaxation.
Easy in and out . West Marine about 5 miles away , two movie theaters within walking distance, one shows low budget niche films one has twenty screens.
Had bike tire stolen from bike. Had bike locked up but not both tires locked on both bikes. Another bike with front tire missing laying on ground. Many of transient docks are not behind locked gates, beware that their is a lot of theft in the Marina. Talked to Sarasota Police they said they have frequent thefts from the Marina, smart thieves work the Marina according to the police. Had another boat in Marina broken into last week and stole electronics, beware!!! At Marina Jacks high crime, no bodily harm just theft of your stuff.

Management response:
Hey Capt. Crusher, thank you for this very detailed review. We deeply apologize for any vandalism or damage sustained to your bike. Due to the Marina’s close vicinity of Downtown, we sometimes get unwanted riff raff on the property. Luckily for us, we have a close relationship with Sarasota Police Department and their Marine Patrol unit, which has aided us in becoming more proactive about theft within the Marina. The use of security cameras has cut down on theft significantly. Our 4 floating docks, as well our transient dock, are located behind secure gates, with codes that change every month. We suggest that transients with bicycles secure both the frame and tires together, and lock them up on either an unused cleat on their slip or the bike racks in front of the restaurant. Again, we apologize for this bike incident. We hope you come back and see us again.

Nice town to visit, 2014-09-04
Captain: , Hudson (274)

It is a little pricey but you get free transportation to Publix and West Marine. The floating docks are great and the location is very nice. You walk out of the Marina and you are on Main St. with a lot of shops and restaurants. We were here during the storm "Debby" and saw several boats break loose from anchorage on the other side of the Island. The crew at the Marina went out to help other boats get into a dock during the storm. The staff are very helpful. The wifi here is no longer a problem, they now use OnSpotWIFI and it works great.

Management response:
Hey there Capt. Nimo, thanks for your input! Debby was a doozy of a storm, and luckily neither the marina nor the boats sustained major damage. For storms that like, we usually go around and help secure vessels with extra lines and fenders, and additionally help any weather-distressed boaters into their slip. We’ve been getting some great feedback on our new wi-fi system, so we’re happy to hear you liked it!

Excellent Marina, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Oriental,NC (588)

Best marina in Sarasota hands down. If you have never been to Sarasota, you should stay here just because it offers the true flavor of the city. Closeby and walking distance to Main st., which is full of restaurants, and bikable across the bridge to St. Armands, a huge circle full of retail shops and more restaurants. Marina itself has it all, and a great restaurant and bar. Very very nice.

Management response:
Hi there Capt. Dabney, thanks for the awesome review! We hope to see you again.

Can't go wrong here, 2014-05-20
Captain: , Orange Beach Alabama (90)

Floating docks are like new. Restaurants and bars on sight were great. On the edge of downtown with lots of stuff to do.

Management response:
Thanks for the review Captain Owl! We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. Looking forward to seeing you again.

wi fi improvement, 2014-04-03
Captain: , iuka,ms (222)

the marina just upgraded their wi fi and it went from terrible to as fast as i've ever seen, its far faster than my home service, one other nice thing ,its free..

Very Nice, Upscale, 2014-03-24
Captain: , Little River, SC (1987)

Very friendly and helpful staff. The facilities are first class. We ate at both the outside patio bar-food OK, service slow and the upstairs restaurant-food and service excellent. The courtesy van was quick and very convenient. Took us to the Ringling Museum which is certainly worth a visit. Wortth the price.

Great Sarasota dockage, 2014-03-11
Captain: , Nashville (260)

Pricey, but classy! Good dock hands, good restaurant and bar, live music, lots of action -- but quiet and relaxing on the docks. Walking distance to many Sarasota attractions, easy access. Clean and well kept, great facility!

It's Sarasota!, 2014-03-01
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

The Marina Jack facility is top drawer. Beautiful docks and shore amenities; friendly, professional, and helpful staff; a restaurant with a deck for enjoying a drink at sunset. They have, without question, the best pump out we have ever had the 'pleasure' to use. The marina itself is worth the stop. But add to that the town of Sarasota just a block away and you have an out of the park home run.

There are restaurants and shops and galleries and all sorts of entertainment from a movie theater to the opera. When you walk the streets you'll see wildly painted pianos where anyone can sit down and play a tune. Whole Foods is just a few blocks away, close enough to be your pantry. I know by looking at my credit card charges that we used it that way. Absolutely do not miss the Saturday morning farmer's market. It's the best I have seen. There's also a variety of craft fairs and car shows on the weekends. They block off the streets downtown making it an enjoyable stroll.

If you have canine crew like we do, you will find numerous places to walk, all with wide sidewalks and pleasant views including sculptures and views of the bay. It is a very dog friendly community with your well behaved pet welcome at most of the outdoor restaurants. All in all a great time was had by all onboard and we look forward to returning.

Nice area - would definitely come back, 2014-02-15
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

We stayed here for three days on a mooring ball ($25.00 50' per day) with heavby rain, lightning and strong winds. Although we rocked pretty good by the switching winds (we weigh 60,000lbs) we felt safe on the ball.
The dingy docks are good, well protected and the shower bathroom facilities looked clean. The laundry worked well and was not over priced.
Very close to down town where there are many opportunities to eat and drink.
Marina is not cheap per foot if you choose the dock option.

Captains Dream, 2014-01-30
Captain: , Sarasota, Florida (10)

There are absolutely no boundaries for customer satisfaction from this facility. Marina Jack has available to their customers, the BEST technitians in the area for vessel repairs at very competetative pricing and the peace of mind that it will be done correctly and expediantly. Further more, they are above and beyond the call no matter what the boater needs, all you have to do is ask!! They have an exceptional staff with apparently inexaustable resourses compelling to the catering to the most prudene of mariners.

Great Mechanic, 2014-01-24

Bob Mac was a great diesel mechanic. View was stunning, great location and close walk to town

Very good, but not perfict, 2014-01-20
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

Expensive, but worth it. Fabulious location, free shuttle to various points of interest. Excellent floating docks, and knowledgeable dock hands.
No pool (weather was too cold anyway) and no repair facilities.

Marina Jack, 2014-01-16
Captain: , Sandwich (722)

In my opinion I think Marina Jack is an over-rated marina. Yes it's in the heart of Sarasota's downtown and only marina in town but that's about it. Marina Jack restaurant attracted huge crowds. There is no pool. There is no wifi (have to purchase thru a 3rd party). There is no beach. The docks are nice but the bath/shower facilities are unisex and the amount of traffic these places got the units were untidy and not so inviting.

Not the most personal service, 2013-11-18
Captain: , Bozeman Mt. (300)

Seems like the service and manarisms could improve a considerably amount.

Great Location, 2013-10-23

Walking distance to so much in downtown Sarasota.
Easy access to the Gulf of Mexico.

Only downfall, no pool.

Great Marina and Downtown Sarasota, 2013-09-20
Captain: , Melbourne, FL (239)

Stopped at Marina Jack on 9/16/13 for the evening while bringing a boat from Tarpon Springs to Melbourne, FL. Top of the line marina, great service, clean bathrooms and more. Walked across the street to downtown Sarasota to have dinner. Lots of restaurants to choose from and ate at Patricks. This is a must stop while cruising!

Spent 2 nights here July 2012, 2 more nights July 2013; nice docks, facilities, restaurants and bar; free shuittle to Gulf beaches; well protected; walk to town, restaurants, bars, shopping; walk or dinghy to Island Park. O'Leary's Tiki Bar tops! Helpful staff.

This is what a 5 star marina looks like, 2013-06-22
Captain: , Plantation Yacht Harbor, Islamorada, Fla. Keys (4666)

What a vibrant place; even with the costs and some exposure to the southwest, even with the foot traffic to the great patio bar/grill, adjacent park with another good grill/bar and the marina's pricey restaurant, even with the music from the two bar and grills [and from certian boats in the harbor], and even with the lack of a pool, this is what a great marina should be. And, it wouldn't be the place that it is without its proximity to a truely great downtown with all types of restaurants, art shops; shopping, public library, post office, performance venues [from high opera to local bands] and a Whole Foods [ie, Whole Paycheck] and [a little further, Publix]. In the book, next to the definition of a great marina, is a picture of Marina Jacks.

Good Sarasota downtown marina, 2013-05-04
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (960)

Very large marina with gated docks; most transients docked on floating docks. Good venue for alone or cruising groups. Our club was greeted with complimentary grilled hambuger lunch. Nice welcome packet. Downtown walking distance with numerous dining options/shopping. Good biking. Close to Marie Selby Botanical Garden; transportation to St Armand Circle; taxi to Ringling Museum complex is a must see. 2 restaurants onsite, no pool. Very clean and plentiful showers/restrooms. Fuel dock easy access

Marina Jack, 2013-04-22
Captain: , Houston, TX (553)

We spent 3 nights on a mooring ball, including two T-storms with 25 - 30 knot gusts, with no problems. Then, we moved to the marina for 2 nights, because the mooring balls were all booked up. The marina facilities are nice, but the mooring balls are way better value for money.

MJ moorings, 2013-04-08
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

Price is right. Fuel is right
We stayed here one night for $21, then headed for the Saratoga Yacht Club for $111 per night. Returned after three days to save money. Fuel is about 25 cents cheaper, too. If it is windy, could be noisy at night; we wound up spraying a soap solution on the mooring thimble to eliminate chafing noise.

Enjoyable but expensive., 2013-03-27
Captain: , Deltaville, Va. (50)

We paid 2.85 a foot with 30 foot minimum. Great view and wonderful dockage. Restraunt is a Sarasota attraction with lots of activity. Very busy if you like entertainment. Not a place for quiet and solitude if thats what your looking for. All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Stayed 2 nights before leaving to beat the winds.

Marina Jack, 2013-03-06
Captain: , solomons md (190)

We were at Marina Jack for a week and could have stayed longer. First class floating docks and great staff. Van service to Publix, West Marine, and the Ringling Museum. Sarasota Circus was well worth the cab ride. Dog friendly with a nice park for a walk. More restaurants than you will ever need.

Great Access to City, Nice Ammenities, 2013-01-31
Captain: , Annapolis, Md (148)

We got a good weekly deal - averaging out to be about $1.91/day. Stayed on D Dock (most transients do). FABULOUS view of waterway, bridge, park, fountain & sunset!! Nice & calm. The park is a terrific place to walk yourself & the dogs. Very pet friendly everywhere. Weekends the bar is hopping & VERY noisey. Bands everynight usually wind down by 10 or 11...way past this cruiser's bed time.

A good spot, 2013-01-20
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

All of the other reviews basically say it all. Convenient to groceries, activities, restaurants. Clean and up to date facilities, helpful staff, floating docks. Depending on where you are in your slip, it is a long walk to the showers/restrooms, but you can't have it all. As said earlier it is a bit pricey at $2.65 per foot with a 30 foot minimum, but as they say, you often get what you pay for.

Great location, 2012-04-01
Captain: , walpole, me (101)

You are within walking distance to many fine restaurants and bars and plenty of shopping. Two restaurants on site are pretty good although the upstairs one is pretty pricey. The staff was very helpful and friendly, they even got me a cab that got me to the hospital quicker than an ambulance! Concrete floating docks were in a well protected spot. Showers and restrooms were clean but were quite a hike. We will return.

Top notch facility, 2012-03-31
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

Great concrete floating docks, staff came out to help us in. Fairly close to town, restaurants, upscale shopping. But we only gave Marina Jacks a 3-star due to the noisy restaurant/bar/nightclub where a band played into the night. Expensive for services received, wi-fi is extra cost, cable was free but poor connection. Long walk to shore to relieve the dog.

Great Marina in a wonderful location, 2012-03-09
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (329)

We spent the winter of 2011/2012 at Marina Jack and liked it so much that we reserved a slip for next year there. We were not real happy that we had to be in a fixed dock which meant using a ladder to get on and off the boat but this summer those fixed docks are being replaced with floating docks. Sarasota is a great little town with many shops and restaurants just a few blocks away. As we spend our winters on the boat without a car we love the cities that make it easy to get around easily. Sarasota has a good bus service, and sidewalks for us to walk or bike anywhere. We could easily bike to the beach, a West Marine, several malls and the %u201CBig Box Stores%u201D. With all that we rarely needed the free concierge car to drive us to places. Whole Foods is about mile away and a Publix about 1 mile away.

Will be back.., 2012-02-07
Captain: , Kingtston Ontario (273)

Yes the marina is more wxpensive than some, but also a lot cheaper than others. The staff were super friendly & helpful. The Marina also has a free shuttle bus that will take you to some places around town. In the morning it does a W. Marine/Pulix run. We had the shuttle take us to the Ringling Museum in the morning & they picked us up in the afternoon. Lots to see & do, & hardware, grocery store, & and many resturants were within a 10-15 minute walk at the most. It has gated slip access & we found the place clean with nice clean showers even if one night there was no hot water!!!!!

Good facility, Overpriced, 2012-02-04
Captain: , Edenton, NC (887)

Having just spent a week at the St. Petersburg municipal marina, which is wonderful, we would have given Marina Jack's a pass if we hadn't had to meet friends here. If you have a choice, bypass Sarasota and go to St. Pete, half the price for a nicer city. Stayed one night, sorry the free newspaper doesn't make up for the difference in price.
The staff and facility are good, but don't justify the cost.

Still Topnotch, 2012-02-02
Captain: , Punta Gorda. FL (360)

Pros: Fine protected floating pier for transients (delta dock); great restaurants nearby Main Street (try Selva for Peruvian); Marina Jack restaurants ok to good; marina offers transportation within 5 miles: includes St Armands and Westfield Mall. Music stops at reasonable hour.
Cons: WIFI $5/48 hrs, slow, payment security uncertain; boaters showers could be cleaner.

Beautiful Facilities, GREAT Location, Bug High Priced, 2011-04-20
Captain: , St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (404)

Expensive docking and fuel. Overpriced restaurant with food quality that only ranks "fair". The location is perfect for everything with the quaint "down town" filled with great restaurants and bars, and shops all within very easy walking distance. Dock masters are not at all friendly to dingies. Even after showing them a receipt from their restaurant for $160 they still won't let you tie up unless you have a slip paid for, claiming "the restaurant is separate from the marina". VERY snobby but happy to accept my $5 tip for pump out! We prefered anchoring in the bite immediately north of Marina Jacks.

Very expensive, very rolly from wakes, 2011-03-21
Captain: , Cruising (3310)

We're here for a Rendezvous, but unless you stay a month their rates are really pretty ridiculous. H dock (one of the transient docks - big and heavy for large boats) is extremely rolly from wakes, and on the weekend even G dock behind it was pretty lively. On the other side transient D dock wasn't too bad, with protection from the park land. Marina staff has been pretty helpful, though they seem to be a little cavalier about mail/packages.

Great Marina & Fabulous City, 2011-03-07
Captain: , Annapolis (1465)

Stayed here for the past week. One of the nicest overall marinas we've seen. Very clean, wide concrete docks, free DIY pump outs. Two blocks from downtown Sarasota. Very 'walkable' town with a ton of great restaurants and cultural activities.

Airport is 5 miles away.

If you enjoy taking advantage of what small cities have to offer and a little sophistication this is the place to stop. Great dockhands too, everything walkable.

Way too expensive for cruisers, 2011-02-12
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (822)

Great location, but way too expensive for cruisers. $462 plus electric for one week. We only payed 850/wk in the Keys with much better weather.

Good marina, easy access, good dining!, 2011-01-28
Captain: , Clearwater (326)

Marina Jacks is a Sarasota institution. My only real critisism of the marina is that it staying there can be a little like being in a gold fish bowl with the tnumber of condos surrounding it and the public park on one side but the overall downsides are FAR outweighed by the good points. Nice restaurant, awesome access to the very nice Sarasota downtown and a nice laid back vibe.

Great location, mediocre service, terrible food, 2011-01-24
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (10)

Fantastic location, within easy walking distance (200 yards) of downtown Sarasota. Has lots of amenities.

Some marina staff are helpful, but most seem aloof and not very knowledgeable. The showers were were sometimes clean and other times absolutely filthy.

The attached restaurants are radically over-priced and food quality was barely passable. Fortunately there are dozens of very good restaurants within a short walking distance.

Warning! The depth of the dock areas very widely!!! My draft is only 4'3" and I hit mud in two locations in the *center* of the marina. This most likely is caused by the large cruise boats backing out of slips moving a lot of mud around. This is most noticable between the A and B docks... so be careful if they give you a slip there.

Great Location - unimpressed by marina service!, 2011-01-05
Captain: , Whitby UK (111)

There is no better stopover than Sarasota and Marina Jacks has a super bar and restuarant, but getting service from marina staff is like pulling teeth with pliers! When the (paid for) Wifi failed over the holidays - they couldn't be bothered to report it and today they changed all the combination locks to the gates and showers! Did they bother to tell us - no! Did they apologise for invonvenience - No!

No BoatUS discount, $2.25ft, but worth it!, 2010-11-16
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (435)

Stayed here two nights. This site says $2 with Boat US discount, but the correct price is $2.25/no discounts. That being said, it has to be one of the finest places to stay any where! Staff is very helpful, pumpout valves at every slip, great restaurant and tiki bar in the park next door...don't miss that! You can walk to anything in Sarasota from there and they will take you where ever you want to go! All in all you pay a lot, but you get your moneys worth!

Great marina, 2010-05-08
Captain: , Houma, LA (417)

We stayed at this marina January 2010 to May 2010. We commuted from home to the boat and back. This is simply a great place to leave the boat. The staff is helpful, there are nearby service providers, and a fabulous walking trail. The marina has an open air bar (Sunday is reggae night) a piano bar and a restaurant. Also, there are countless restaurants within walking distance. It is about an hour drive from the Tampa airport.

Noisey from the restaraunt, 2010-03-29

We where on the end of the docks farthest from the restaraunt and the music was loud until late. Otherwise, clean and an easy walk into downtown Sarasota

Agree with previous reviewers!, 2010-03-20
Captain: , Nassau Bay (185)

This really is a nice place for transients! Staff was helpful after they warmed up to us;) Shuttle was great for a trip to West Marine, and then on to the airport. The upstairs restaurant at the marina was exceptional, including the wine list and manager. After dinner, we enjoyed one of the best piano bars we've ever been to. Good memories of Marina Jacks. Navigation note as of March 2010...we came from Clearwater in a 60' m/v that drafts 5+ feet. Luckily we took the long slow trip down the intracoastal and came right into the marina. The reason I say "luckily" is we had considered running a much faster trip from Clearwater by going outside and coming in either New Pass or the other pass close by (can't recall the name). Locals told us they are both closed to bigger boats as they silt in so badly right after dredging. Apparently, they've stopped dredging as a result. Get some local knowledge if you're headed in from the Gulf to this area.

Great marina with floating docks and pumpout at every slip in the heart of downtown Sarasota. Easy access to downtown restaurants and shopping. Taking Possession of Purchased Boat, 2007-12-14
Captain: , Sarasota, Florida (1)

We bought a Sea Ray 40 MY to do the Great Loop on and it was located at Marina Jacks. We decided that because the Marina was so nice and in such a great location to rent a slip there for several months to make sure the boat was ready to start the Loop on and enjoy the area. Sam and his staff have been extremely helpful and there are many good boat service people in the area. All have been extremely responsive and competent. The facilities are in top shape and the area is really beautiful.
